"Rocky" was a science experiment conducted by an extremist group, known as the Sons of Zek, done in order to uplift species. He was abducted as a young mugato and raised in a lab. He had a cybernetic augment in his brain and nanomachines in his blood that made him sapient. The Sons of Zek were group of animal right's activists that believed in universal rights for all living things. Rocky was one of four mugatos who were tested on and the only one the survive the augments. He was augmented at age three so he has lived most of his life as a sapient species. He, along with a whole menagerie of augmented, uplifted, typically non-sentient species were kept in a sort of commune. When Starfleet learned of the Sons actions they raided the compound and a brief firefight ensued. Many of the Sons were killed, a great number of suicide, but a few escaped.

After being freed Rocky and the other animals were the subject of much debate within the Federation. Should they take away their intelligence? Should they treat them like citizens? Should they put them in a zoo? Opinions were many and temperaments were hot but ultimately the creatures themselves were asked. Several opted to regress to their unintelligent forms but most elected to become members of the Federation, including Rocky.

Being of unusual size and physical prowess, Rocky found himself in many scraps in his early years. He received and education and, as his mental capacity was set to that of a human, he was able to learn at human schools. He was originally called named "M04" but chose the name "Rocky" after watching the old boxing movie from Earth (a favorite pastime of his).

Despite his skill, he never really excelled and is not the brightest bulb in the box. He is big though and his case was an interesting one- he applied to the academy and was rejected. Still, he enlisted in Starfleet and was quickly put into the maintenance department. Now he is the janitor of the stars! Armed only with a rudimentary level of intelligence, a power-cleaner and his brawn he must face a hostile universe.

Additional information:
Rocky is polite, a little slow, but honorable to a fault. He loved old movies and speaks with a British accent (think Hagrid from the Harry Potter movies). He likes to quote old Earth movies.
