Doni always looked up to his older brother, his senior by 14 years. When he died in the Klingon War, his family never learned the exact details. Just the commiserations of Starfleet. His parents were reluctant, but finally agreed to let Doni apply for Starfleet Academy when he turned 18.

He shifts his weight between his legs awkwardly as the recruiter eyes him up. "Sorry, I'm probably over sharing. I do that when I'm nervous. Um, no formal training in combat, but I'm willing to learn... Sir!"
