I can't see how a pineapple can ever replace a patty. Slapping it on as a topping is one thing, but that there is taking the burger out of a burger.

Pineapples have been added to burgers for a long time. Go to any Bennigan's, Fudrucker's, TGI Friday's or Red Robin. They all have aloha burgers.

That is not a hawaiian burger... I've had hawaiian burgers.  Patty, teriyaki, pineapple.  You do NOT replace the patty with pineapple.
