Regardless of the outcome Lahr clapped encouragingly. "Ooh..gutter ball.. that's okay.  It's your first throw ever.  You'll get the hang of it.  Trying focusing your aim not so much on the pins at end but rather the targeting arrows on the lane a few feet in front of you.  It  helps. Throw again.. you get a 2nd ball when you don't get a strike with your first." he explained.

Kinley nodded. "œWe're not competing too much here." she said after the gutterball Zhuk made. It's not like they had too much practice while at work. Steve squeaked excitedly, watching and almost seeming to cheer them on from his perch on top of the bowling ball rack. "œEven Steve agrees!" She laughed and gave the tiny raptor a scritchie.

Motivated by the advice and the general positive attitude of Lahr, Kinley, and even the holographic raptor, Zhuk offered them a smile, "Correct. I appreciate the advice provided. I shalt try that now." A little nervous, he moved over to grab ahold of the new bowling ball, gazing at it with a little less awe than before. Still, he wondered if maybe he could take one of them home.

He retreated through the counsel given by Lahr and he hummed, as he got into position once more. Aiming over toward the targeting arrows seemed... like a strange thing to do. But ultimately, Lahr was the expert on the game, so he supposed that listening to him was the best thing that he could do. Thus, he proceeded to focus on the arrows, and moved forward, dropping low, to then unleash the ball from his fingers. And his claws.

This time, there was no discomfort from his shoulder, and the ball did fly towards its intended destination: the bowling pins. While he did not succeed in toppling all of them over, four did end up being swiped by his ball.

He glanced over with no small amount of pride towards Kinley, Steve, and Lahr, "That, I feel, was much better. I appreciate your encouragement, everyone. You too, Steve."

Lahr applauded Zhuk's second throw.  "See what'd I tell ya? Aim on the lane markings."   The Andorian bobbed his head knowingly before marking the score onto the sheet under his own.   The score card was displayed overhead of the lane for everyone to see.  Lahr was at 10 for his spare.  Zhuk had 4.

"Kin?  Dem?  Who's throwing next?"

[Bowling Alley | Deep Space Nine]

Dem, having waited for a while, decided to put up his hand to go. As soon as he stood up, his head started to spin. He may have had a little too much to drink that night. As soon as the blurred streaks of the neon lights and his fellow bowlers unphased, he tentatively walked towards the rack that held the bowling balls. Pretending that he knew what he was doing, he picked up a medium sized ball and started to line up his approach. Alternating his gaze between his bowling ball (now painfully held by three of his fingers) and the end of the alley, he prepared for his shot, having no idea what to expect. After a few more practice swings, he let the ball go and it streaked down the alleyway at surprising speed. Dem has launched it with a lot of power, and once he let go of the ball his momentum carried himself a few steps over the line. Unfortunately, in his slightly drunk state, his balance was that of a Klingon, so he ended up on his knees a few meters away from the throwing line. He gazed down at the pins, still a little disorientated. Dem laughed aloud as he found he hit down one pin. Beginners Luck.

Kinley noted Dem's shot. Not bad, even if it seemed a bit wobbly to start. "œYou've got some more shots there! Keep trying! She encouraged, giving a grin to the others as she pulled an easily-distracted Steve back when he saw a passer-by walk by with a large sandwich (and Jello.) "œSo, how long have you guys been in Starfleet? She asked, curious about her new friends.

"œYear or so." Dem slurred in-between sipping his drink. "œI'm just a newbie. What about you?" Dem asked as he lined up his second shot. Without even thinking, he threw it, to no avail. Disappointed, Dem decided to focus on his last one, even taking it so far as to put down his drink on the small table to the left of him. Lining up his last shot, closing one eye to aid his accuracy, Dem through the ball straight down the middle of the alley with a satisfying thump. Over time, it tapered over to the left, eventually only clipping two more pins. Dem looked over to the group with a childish grin. "œThis is fun". Dem retrieved is drink and sat down in anticipation for Kinley's go.

Lahr suddenly felt old.  He marked the score on the sheet before answering Kinley question. "Five years.  Started out in Sec/Tac then requested a change after the battle at Starbase Innominatum during the Leyton War.  Did Operations for a while before I ended up in Engineering.  Now I'm kinda a jack-of-all-trades, y'know?"

"I believe in your capabilities, friend. Do not give up!"

"Not bad," Zhuk thought as Dem attempted his throw. He made sure to offer a soft set of clapping made to encourage him, though he did wonder if he was fully okay. He had landed kneeling after his shot, which certainly struck him as odd. Perhaps he was having some kind of balancing issues, or his shoes were not the right size. He supposed that he should not worry too much about it, however, considering how he did not report any discomfort. At Kinley's question, Zhuk's ears wiggled.

That was a rather peculiar query. How long had he been in Starfleet? He took a moment to answer, as he gazed over at Dem's second try. This one was much more successful, and it caused him to smile softly at his success. Perhaps, it was just a matter of getting used to it, like how he had failed the first time. Fun game indeed~

"Well done~" He made a small pause, humming as he stopped himself from giving what he believed to be an inaccurate answer, "Without taking into account the Academy? About eleven months... if I am not mistaken..." Huh. So long? He was about to reach his one-year anniversary, yet he had not taken a moment to consider the time he had spent thus far serving aboard the Challenger. It was a strange feeling, he came to realize, but ultimately, he supposed that it had to do with how much he enjoyed being a Security officer, and exploring strange new worlds.

It had been the right path to take, he believed. His tail began to wag slightly, but soon his attention returned to the conversation at hand. All movement ceased, as he proceeded to comment, "Yes, I may confirm, after serving alongside him, that ShranLahr is a spectacular engineer. Without him, we would have been unable to enter an ancient ruin within the planet of Kaimo VI."

He hoped that Lahr would have stuck to the good of that mission, and not the bad. It had been a rather dreadful experience for all of the away team, but he wanted to give some praise to his good friend. And maybe exalt him just a little bit.

Hearing the others give responses of a year or less, yet each one with far more rank and authority than he, Lahr wondered at his choice of taking the enlisted route.  Where would he be now if he was a commissioned officer?  Certainly not kept hidden away in some back corner of Engineering that's for sure.

It was then that Zhuk praised his work as an engineer.  Lahr looked over to the Caitian appreciatively. "I wouldn't say that.  I'm sure one of the others would have figured the code.  It was rather simplistic." He looked to the others as he explained.  "It was just an ascending series of tones representing the number sequence 1 through 6.  The clues were all there."

Despite downplaying his part, Lahr felt a little better.   "Who's next?"

Dem started instinctually nodding when Lahr talked about their most recent mission, falsely giving the illusion that he had any idea what he was talking about with the code. When he asked who's next, Dem looked over at Kin. "œI believe that's you"¦" He replied, still grinning from the high of his turn. After going back to the marshalling area for the bowlers, he noticed a small replicator positioned between the two seats. "œOoh, a replicator. I'm going ta have a bowl of chips. Anyone else want anything?" Dem said.
