Nira Said

[Lieutenant JG Nira Said | Corridors | Deck Seven | USS Discovery NCC-78393-B]

Nira had been wondering and wondering for some time. Her relationship with Evandev presented something of a problem: As beautiful as they both were, Evandev was uncomfortable with the fact that Nira outranked her. And notwithstanding she was as much a junior officer as he was, she was at the edge; one more promotion and she would be on the lowest ranks of senior officers.

Nira wasn't sure referring him as "Mister Bervarn" on duty was helping. She did as much as she could all by herself, but she realized she needed help.

That meant consultation with the new Ship's Counselor, Zed Masters, or at least one of the counselors under him. She had known him briefly, but she felt it was inevitable to meet a ship's counselor anyway to see what she can do.

So she had arranged an appointment with him and had just left her quarters when it occurred to her that she had no idea where the Counseling office was. But she knew the Computer knew.

"Computer," she said, "please direct me to the Counselor office."

[USS Discovery - Counselling office - Kevin Gillian's office]

Kevin  had sat there listening to Ensign Bok-Char, a Bolian Male who liked to talk. Of course, Bolians had loved to smack their gob. That what they liked. The story telling was very deep too.

A Bolian would do good with Italians. They both like to talk. That would be something. No. That would surely make your ears tired. Now. If he was a El-Aurian he would simply sit back and allow the young male talk.

"So you, see?" the Bolian had stopped as he saw the Counselor nodding his head.

Then with a small smile on his face, Kevin held his hand up. "Mister Bok-Char you need to keep reminding yourself to give the listener time to talk. I have faith in you. Why don't you try to once again. Then if that does not work. There is another option..." he leaned forward from the seat he was on. "Please. You would not like my suggestion," he shared.

The eye brows what you would call on the Bolian. "Oh...I am curious can you..." he was about to go on another story how he was told not talk but he failed. Rather, he had started a fight cause he would not shut up.

Kevin shook his head to give the notion the answer was a straight no. "No. So we are over the time limit for this session. If this was an old Earth session. You will be paying me over time. I would be able to retire early as well." Only this Bolian would make him rich. That was the truth.

He got up off his chair which was like the super comfy couch. Honest to goodness. That couch had a nice memory foam which goes back in its old form. There was no way he was going to have a couch ate his clients. That would be bad for business.

The couch and chair were the color of chocolate brown. Soft leather not hard leather. It felt like a skin but it was not. There were a wooden end tables for clients to place their drinks on.

On the wall there was a scribble looking picture. The scribbles where black on a white canvas. Depends on your mood the image changes to the viewer, but the image itself does not change to other viewers. The artist who he never got the name from. Had mimic this one art piece on Earth during the Twenty first century in the year of Co-vid something. History claimed it was the turning point in America like the Civil War. The world was involved in the crisis. That was the beginning of unfold situation on Earth.

He had a a nice view of space. The shades was down cause Bok-Char was distracted. The view gave him many stories to tell.

On his desk which the clients could not see a photograph of his hundred year old mother who was now in New New York. The extra New had to be from the rebuild of the great fall of New York city in that covid historical event. That period was something he should visit in Holodeck. There was out break to keep counsellors busy for centuries.

He had a nice picture of his mother when she was in High School. It was beautiful picture there. He had that up for breaking the ice for his clients. He even had a few pictures of New York and Greece too. There was not to much. The decorations was enough to give the client to start talk. He had found his mother's picture was the best. They compliment that his girlfriend or wife looks gorgeous. He had placed the topic on him to make them feel it was not about them at first. A trick he some how picked up. Maybe it was that one counselor he met once. Her ego was huge. It was more about her and not her clients.

Bok-Char walked out of the office with Kevin following. "Remember... Focus...I have faith in you, Mister Bok-Char," he called after him.

Bok-Char stopped and cheered up as he saw an Security officer. "All clear! Nothing to worry about. No need," he pipped. "Lieutenant...I am sorry...truly sorry...Excuse--oh...no...you," he as fumbling on where to go. He stopped in place. "Shh. Mister Bok-Char told himself..." he slid away feeling he had failed on his first attempt. Lieutenant Addams was not going to be please with his attempt to get better.

Kevin spotted Nira. "Hello Lieutenant," he said. "Allow me to introduce myself. Ensign Kevin Gillian. How can I assist you with?" he offered as the door was open for her to enter the main waiting area or stay in the corridor.

Gillian stood about six feet, stocky like a boxy but not heavy weight. More light weight. He had dark brown eyes, wavy medium length hair. Pale skin like a New England-er in Winter season. The lack of the sun.

What he was wearing you are asking? Well he had a casual clothing on. Light blue long sleeve button up shirt. He had liked buttons. It was sticking out of his jeans he had. Once again, laid back and his clothes could be something clients would want to talk. The trick get the attention off themselves first. Break the ice. Then he can stir themselves back. It would happen five minutes and under. Bok-Char took four sessions for him to get control on the Bolian. That was a hard case of all.

Nira Said

[Lieutenant JG Nira Said | Kevin Gillian's Office | Counseling office |  USS Discovery NCC-78393-B]

As Nira proceeded to the office, determining to see the first counselor that came out, given Counselor Masters would easily be busy, she saw Ensign Bok-Char proceeding out. She remembered the Bolian from when she tagged along in the "Flying Tigers" program.

"Mister Bok-Char," said Nira with a nod of greeting, adding in a smile, before she came in.

Counselor Gillian, in Nira's opinion, could've looked handsome once, but he didn't seem to strike her as her type. She could see he came from somewhere cold, lots of winters, on Earth, didn't see much sun, contrary to her Earth home of Arabia, where there was constant sun and heat.

"Good to see you, counselor," said Nira. She didn't care much for rank when it came to counselors; rank notwithstanding, they were all counselors to her.

"I understand if Counselor Masters would be busy," said Nira, sitting on the couch, "but I need to bring this up to somebody in the counseling office. I'm in a relationship that has a problem. I'm in love, but I outrank he whom I love."

Kevin was surprised how quickly Ensign Nira needed to talk. He watched her marched in his office. He stepped after her and the doors closed behind him. She had sat herself down the comfy couch. He walked to his seat and sat down.

Nira was in love. Her fear was her rank was being higher then the person she was seeing. He sat there thinking that one over. Love and rank was what was worrying her.

He placed his elbows on the arm of his chair, and placed his fingers on each hand together. Left fingers was resting on the right fingers and as the thumb.

He sucked in his lips as he tilted his head a little. Then he replied with care.  "œAre you two in the same department?" He asked.

[Lieutenant JG Nira Said | Counselor Gillian's Office | Counseling Offices | USS Discovery]

"Sort of," said Nira, explaining. "I'm mainly in security, but as a forensic science officer, I straddle the two departments...though it seems eighty percent Security, twenty percent Science. I make use of science in forensic investigations. But for the most part, I'm in Security. As for my boyfriend, he's a Science officer. As for what rank is concerning: I'm a Junior Lieutenant, so that makes me still a junior officer, though one promotion away from being a senior officer, while he, on the other hand, is just a crewman. The only reason we fell in love is that we are each beautiful.

"But the fact is," she continued, "he feels awkward, potentially even concerned about the fact that I outrank him. The best I've done is address him as 'Mister' when on duty, because anybody of rank can be referred to as 'Mister,' but I'm not sure if it's done much. I don't even know how many examples there are of couples where the woman outranks the man, though I know they exist somewhere.

"What can I do about it, counselor?" Nira asked. "I mean, I've gone over in my head of how to keep up the relationship in multiple different ways, and they all point to the same thing: break off the relationship. But what can you recommend I do?"

[As Kevin Gillian - Counselor's office]

Counselor Kevin sat their full attention to hear Nira. He was paying close attention her infliction in her tone and her body language.

"There is no right and wrong decisions. I can't even tell you what to. But I can challenge you to look at it other ways. You claim you both are "beautiful". Is that only physical attraction. What level is your relation ship?"

"When you work with him or when you are in the same room. Are able to see him as an officer and not a boyfriend at the same time?"

He mad a steeple with his index finger and let his arms relax place his hands between his knees. "You said you are a forensic investigation officer," he placed compassion into all he says. "Are you analyzing your relationship as its a case to resolve? Over thinking it?"

"The level of our relationship..." Nira pondered a moment. "Deeply intimate, but awkward when on duty. When I work with him and am in the same room with him...at first, I was viewing him more as a boyfriend than an officer, but I got that under control, although there's one or two spasm in thought where I think of him as a boyfriend. I try my best not to be on a first name basis with him on duty.

"And, yes, I guess I am overthinking it," said Nira. "Comes with being a forensics officer. I could use an outside opinion, though."

"œThere are options. One of you can get a transfer. Then you can attempt a long term relationship. You will be apart. Seeing new faces. Making new friends. Two things can happen. You can slowly lose feelings to each other as you build new friendship and develop them," he opened his hands up. "œOr you find that works....It is not easy....It's more for those who have been in a very long relationship."

"œTransferring in another department or relocate yourself from the area of the ship from your boyfriend is. Or a different shift. Less time seeing each other could make things less stress on both for you.

"œYou two are not sharing quarters. If you are. You might want to be separate," he offered. "œI am giving you options. As a counselor."

"œOther route you could do is put the relationship on hold. Like stop so you can figure your thoughts. Then again you still see each other and think odd cause you feel you out rank him," he added. "œIt could be the way your boyfriend thinks. Through Earth history the man was like known for the head of the family. But I can't say much about your boyfriend cause I am only hearing one side of the story."

"œNow," he sat back in his chair. "œYou want me to give you a answer from out of the counselor role into as a friend," he figured that what she wanted. However he had wanted to hear it from her lips.

Nira had thought of those options. However, the fact was, she was unwilling to transfer so soon from the Discovery; she loved serving aboard the Discovery in general, and she was sure Evandev wouldn't transfer away from the ship either. Nor would he transfer to a department so soon; he had recently switched to Science. However, different shifts would be doable, but chance encounters were likely; one was a fool not to consider even remote possibilities.

"No, we aren't sharing quarters," said Nira when the counselor brought it up, as was putting the relationship on hold: "It might be a possibility, yes. Though putting it on hold will eventually lead to terminating the relationship, but it could be for the better."

Then Counselor Gillian posed an ever more interesting suggestion: Hearing an opinion from him not as a counselor, but as a friend. Nira never even knew the man before today, nor did she even remember meeting him before. However, she was in need of opinions, and it sounded like a good viewpoint.

"Of course," she said. "You can give an answer to me that way if you wish."

Then he smiled warmly. "As a friend I say. Are you nuts allowing a rank to be a barrier? I mean, come on, you need to think its like age difference. Different species interacting. You need to be serious, Nira...I mean you sitting here as a higher rank officer getting help someone who is much lower rank then you. And if rank was is an issue. You can't be serious enough going on. Imagine if you get to be Captain in the future. You seem to be very concern about the other person feelings on feeling weird with rank. You ever become a Captain then you will never be happy. Unless you continue to stay the rank you want. Then you sacrifice your skills to improve to be better. Think on that, Nira. Serving on a ship is not all for relationships. Its serving Starfleet. You see the same people every day and can't avoid them. You eventually develop deep involvement with someone else. You need to give him up and move on. Or you two need to figure you can accept the difference. That need to be resolve soon. And fast," he told her. It was all lot. That what he would say to his friend.

If anyone ever talk to Kevin on his relationships. He would say he avoid them. As a counselor on a ship. He made a vow he would never date. That was part of his belief when he was young. That he was not made for love. There was his studies, boxing, studying many philosophies from aliens, and many other things had kept him busy. He could be a dead gorgeous looking and he would still live his life the way he would. You can say he was like some preacher devoted to his job. Or that he was married to his studies and job.

Nira was certainly surprised at the way the counselor responded. But as she processed this perspective and advice, it made sense: She shouldn't have let rank bother her at all. But it bothered Evandev. Nira was sure he would never accept the difference in rank, any more than thin parents zealous of a healthy living would accept a fat child's weight. The easier way would be to break off the relationship. Move on. Now that she knew what to do, now that she had confirmation.

There was also something intriguing about the way the Counselor talked. She made a brief but detailed observation on him; as Sherlock Holmes had said, "the small details are the most important." Again, she noted that he was good looking, but a better look indicated he wouldn't be the type for any woman, nor was he likely to seek out a relationship. This she could tell not just from his tone of voice but from the way he looked.

"I see," said Nira. "I appreciate what you mentioned, counselor. I think I know now what to do."
