[Lieutenant Nira Said | Jungle | Haron Island | Leyven Sea | Risa]
Chief Sec/Tac Officer's log, supplemental. Admiral Gillespie of Starfleet Security has pulled me temporarily from the Discovery to investigate potential black market activity on Risa. I'm to be accompanied by Commander Jettis Jyur, an El Aurian, and we are to pose as a couple on vacation as we investigate. Fitting combination, my talents and his ears. We are to investigate rumors that the Orion Syndicate is secretly operating on Haron Island in the Leyven Sea, and that they could potentially be selling wholesale Romulan arms smuggled from former Romulan Star Empire territory, which is why this particular criminal operation has gotten attention, given there's plenty of criminal activity to go around on Risa. It's somewhat fitting to be back here, temporarily assigned off of Discovery, for Risa was my stepping off point from the Athena to the Discovery. And now here I am again.

Nira felt nostalgic as she wandered the jungle in Haron Island. It wasn't the place where she spent when the Athena crew was on leave, and before the T'Kori sabotaged Risa's systems, but she had memories. Though the last time she was at Risa, she was somewhat out of control, taking advantage of the pleasures of jamaharon. But this time, Nira was on business. And she was to keep her eyes out.

Her meeting with Admiral Gillespie was cordial enough. The Admiral was respectable enough, though hard on the Scottish drawl. His thinness certainly brought to mind the fish he was nicknamed for, the cisco, an elongated whitewater fish, and it had nothing to do with Benjamin Sisko, the Emissary, though Nira was sure Gillespie kept the nickname as his way to respect Captain Sisko.

At that moment, Nira had arrived in this jungle point to wait to rendezvous with Commander Jyur at the specified coordinates. As she waited, she took in the beauty of the jungle, but all the same, kept her observational skills out for people coming her way.

Jettis Jyur

[ Planetside - Risa - Jungle ]

Jettis trudged through the foliage, brushing plants aside as he walked. Though the man had just left Risa not long ago, he'd been called back as part of an investigation. An investigation into blackmarket arms dealing, specifically. Though it was far from his expertise, he had been handy to Risa,  and had enough experience that he'd gotten the call.

As he brushed his hair off of his forehead, he wiped away some sweat. Now though, since he remembered exactly what type of temperature to expect, he'd dressed much more appropriately. Not only to combat the pure heat and humidity, but also to blend in with his assigned cover story.

A story that couldn't be more cliche, but was also perfectly believable. A couple taking a retreat to Risa, for their honeymoon. He winced slightly, but pressed forward until saw the small frame of a woman, who seemed alert, but relaxed. Without hesitation, he moved to her, giving her a short nod.

"Najwa, there you are. I've been looking all over for you." He gave a small, subtle scan of their surroundings, before leaning back. Adjusting his glasses, he wiped another beat of sweat from his brow as he waited.

Nira turned and saw that Commander Jyur... or "Barchen," as they were using undercover names...had arrived. She knew perfectly well the last time she used the cover name she had chosen, it and its cover story had become reality, thanks to mind control from temporal aliens. But Najwa Said had a nice ring to it, and so she stuck with it.

"Glad you could make it, Barchen," she said. "Beautiful, isn't it? Lots of sights and sounds. Heard anything unusual?"

She stressed the word "heard," knowing Jyur was El-Aurian. She hoped his ears could pick up something unusual, even if it's early yet.

Jettis gave a sugary sweet smile as she replied, though it wasn't sincere considering there was nobody around them. That they knew of. Bugs would always be an ongoing concern. "No, I haven't heard anything except these damned flies so far. We should probably head back and get ready to go out." Go out was a bit stressed, as he moved to offer her his arm.

"Have you seen anything interesting?" He mused, as casually as as if he were asking what she'd had for breakfast. Brushing his hair back, he tried to move it out of his face once again. Any sort of hair spray or gel was rendered useless by the merciless Risan suns, so he settled for wiping his brow instead. Tucking what hairs he could behind his ear and underneath his glasses.

"I found an interesting place we could go tonight. A market, we can see if there's anything of interest to pick up after dinner." He maintained his steady, casual voice, as he glanced around. Not quite to the point where he was on guard, but with a level of alertness.

[Lieutenant Nira Said | Jungle >- Seaside Resort | Haron Island | Leyven Sea | Risa]

Nira could hear the wording in Commander Jyur's words. "Sounds fascinating," she said. "It'll give me time to freshen up. I look forward to seeing this market. No, I haven't seen anything yet."

The trip back to their resort and their reserved room was uneventful. And once there, they could see a PADD waiting for them on the bed...a comm line to Admiral Gillespie.

"Glad you two lovebirds can make it," the Admiral replied, smiling smugly and winking. "Been reserved for a while for you two. Don't worry, it's been set so as to recognize the both of you, down to the cellular level."

"You're not worried such tech will give us away, Admiral?" asked Nira.

"Not in the slightest," the Admiral retorted. "Now that you're linked up, you know what to do."

"Quite."

"Then the best of luck to you."

And the transmission ended and the PADD wiped blank.

Evenutally, Nira decided to change to freshen up. She was ready first, but it was understandable, she didn't have much anyway. She sat outside in the suns, the two suns that seemed to feel like she was back in Arabia were it not for the humidity, and waited for her partner.

She had to admit, she would've had a crush on the Commander if it weren't for her relationship with Savar.

As the two walked back, Jettis nodded at her report. He hadn't expected anything just yet, after all they'd only barely gotten there. Things would kick up though, as they investigated the various hotspots that had been pointed out. Especially if they acted suspicious in any way.

As Nira activated the PADD, Jettis had nothing to say, or questions to the Admiral. So he just nodded when prompted, and turned his back once the link had dropped. Jettis relaxed now that they were behind closed doors. The room had been thoroughly checked, and hear he felt confident in speaking freely. However he didn't reignite the conversation, and rather moved to change into more appropriate attire, and take a shower. Nira seemed less interested in doing so, so he hopped into the shower.

It was short, and he emerged in a clean tee and shorts. Picking up a padd, he snatched his glasses from the table, and moved to the door. Peering out, he noted Nira, and quirked a brow.  She was clearly going to take advantage of the nature of their assignment, and enjoy the pleasures of Risa. He couldn't blame her, but he chuckled nonetheless.

"Are you ready to go, babe?" He ground the word out as unconvincingly as possible, before stepping out. He pulled a key out, prepping to close the door as soon as she was ready to leave.

"I very much am, beloved," said Nira, taking her emphasis back at him. She wrapped her dancing skirt around her waist, as she brought her dancer's outfit just in case she had to entice and lull people to talking, put a loose shirt that felt more like a choli from Earth, and then, taking Jyur's hand, they proceeded to the market.

It wasn't hard to find. Except for all the wooden torches, the jungle settings and the fact that there was an unusual concentration of Orions, it would've looked exactly like a bazaar from the olden days. Nira knew she had to be especially careful around Orions, more because of their pheromones. But still, all the more to entice with, though she may need to exert control if the pheromones have an influence on her.

[ Planetside - Risa - Haron Island - Market ]

As the pair proceeded to try and find this market, they didn't have far to look at all. Everything was well marked for tourists, and the market was surely no exception. In fact, it seemed almost as if people were guiding them towards it. As soon as Jettis' eyes set on the town, he was looking for their target. Though, he would try to disguise it as your typical excited tourists, and he would occasionally throw out comments to Nira, to make it even more believable.

However, they both knew what they were looking for. Maybe a suspicious shop owner, an alley that strangely had a set up for a market, anyone who offered... other goods that they couldn't legally show you at their stand. Though most of those other goods were not what the two were looking for, and seemed to be geared more towards single tourists. However, he knew one of these had to be the right one, they just had to pluck out which one seemed most likely.

Then, his attention suddenly focused on a particular kiosk. Pausing, he gave Nira's hand a squeeze, and tipped his head towards them with a smile. "Let's go see what they have," he offered, before starting off towards the display.
Unlike most of the other vendors, two people sat behind this table. A man and a woman, both seeming to be Orions. Just the fact there was two struck him as odd, and as he peered down at their table, he feigned interest in the trinkets. They seemed mass produced, and stood out from the homemade offerings of other tables. Very un-Risan, but not incredibly noticeable if you weren't looking for it. He gave a glance at Nira, and then on an off chance, leaned forwards towards the man, lowering his voice though it wasn't necessary in the loud bazaar. "Do you have any.. other wares to choose from?"

[Lieutenant Nira Said | Market | Haron Island | Leyven Sea | Risa]

Nira had spotted the Orion vendors, too. Both were less clad than she was and both certainly had no Risian souvenirs to sell.

"Not necessarily," the Orion said smoothly. "We make these all ourselves. Something rare to remember Risa by, we who have lived here for a long time."

Nira raised an eyebrow. And then she looked back down at the trinkets. They looked like little incense burners to be hung around the neck. Of course, the burners would be concealed in a way so that one could flare it with a knob in the bottom and allow the scent of the insense to waft close under the wearer's nose.

However, Nira was certainly suspicious. It depended on what the incense was made of, and Orions were often infamous for their pheromones, so there would be a good chance a secret ingredient: Orion pheromones. No doubt to lull the buyer into such a false sense of security, even dumb the wearer of it down a peg.

Nira took a look around. She could see the occasional Orion looking shifty, particularly the women. She looked back at the female vendor, who was looking intently at her.

"You have quite the physique, miss," she purred. "You have the grace of a dancer."

"Mrs, and as a matter of fact, I am a dancer," said Nira.

"You'd be quite at home with us," she continued. "We give dance shows every night here at Haron Island. Here on Risa, it's especially popular. Would you be interested?"

Nira raised an eyebrow with interest, feigning interest in the proposition. In reality, it would be a good chance to delve deeper into the operation, joining the dancing girls. She instantly had deja vu, in that she asked to be a dance hall girl in the Paradise saloon when she went back in time. But she felt she would get better answers.

"What do you think, beloved?" she asked. She was seeing the opportunity, and she had the impression that the dance show would be a cover to secret meetings and buyings of illicit items and/or even slaves. If she was joining the dancers, it would give Commander Jyur a chance to find any potential secret meetings.

Jettis tilted his head, as the man seemed to shoot down his idea, and he wondered for a moment if he'd incorrectly focused his attention. He followed Nira's eyes, to assess the trinkets, before turning back to the pair. He noted the woman's extreme interest, staring at Nira. At least, until Nira acknowledged her.

When the subject of dance came up, Jettis raised his brows, glancing between the two. On the surface, it could easily be mistaken for shock and the sheer boldness of the woman. But in actuality, his knee-jerk surprised reaction was to her interest in the plan. When asked his opinion, he hesitated for a moment, choosing his next words carefully. It was very likely the woman's sudden and intense interest had something to do with their suspicions, and perhaps they had been tipped off to Starfleet's investigation. But, he could see the glint in her eyes that told of a wider plan, so with a small smile, he nodded. "I think that would be fun. Personally, my dancing days are over," he laughed, before turning back to the two orions.

"What time is the show?" He queried, tipping his head.  At the man's answer, he would nod, and drape his arm around Nira's waist, giving an emphatic nod. "We'll be there. Babe, we should check out some of the other stands before the market closes."

"Of course," said Nira. "Where do you want me to meet you for practice?" she asked the Orion woman.

Smiling, with a slightly crooked smile, almost making her look like a snake, the woman gestured in the center. "The central hub," she said. "Just ask for Tani and you'll be brought to her."

"Thank you," said Nira, taking absolute note of the hub.

They then continued their walk around the other stands to check them out. More and more they could see that, most unusually, there were, for the most part, no Risian souviniers to sell. Mostly stuff of Orion make...

...she was noticing some particularly shift people in passing, requesting permission to get past a huge Nausicaan, trying to pass off as just a bouncer, but Nira knew full well Nausicaans were renowned to be bodyguards. Some Orions and the occasional Ferengi would pass him by, trying to pass as tourists, from the shirts, but Nira could tell the body language: they were here for business. And of the illegitimate kind at that.

As the two continued their rounds, Jettis kept a mental log of anyone particularly  shifty. Especially those who took special interest in them, hiding it under the guise of wanting to intercept tourists. He kept an eye on the other tourists in the area as well, to gauge how the shopkeepers treated them as well.

He figured, they would need to try to take note of the non-natives as well, anyone who seemed to know more than they let on as well. The most difficult part would be not raising suspicion. There was a thin line between suspiciously curious, and your average nosey neighbor.

Once they'd agreed they had seen everything there, and felt reasonably sure they hadn't missed anything, they reconvened at the 'central hub' the woman had noted. Pushing his sunglasses up into the top of his head, the two approached the bouncer, hands still interlocked. "Hi, we're looking for Tani," he spoke up, leveling his gaze on the man. The man stared back at him for a few moment, before stepping out of their way, jerking his thumb in the door. "Head straight that way, you can tell Vera to take you too her," he explained gruffly. Giving a nod of thanks, Jettis lead the two in to meet this "Vera", pasting on a bright-eyed expression.

Now that they had seen everything, Nira and Jyur followed along inside. They soon came to a human woman, this had to be Vera.

"We're here to see Tani," Nira said.

"What's your business?" she asked.

"Joining a dance show."

Vera looked up at both of them. "For you, miss?" she asked. "Because the man may need to look especially attractive, especially without a shirt, to even join a dance. He doesn't even look the type."

"Mrs," said Nira, in cover, "and it's more for me. I'd assume he'd be merely audience."

"Follow me, then," she said, and brought her to the Orion showgirls. Vera gestured to Tani. Nira found her at once. Now there was somebody who can certainly make the most beautiful Orion girl there was. It was like looking at someone of Nira's beauty, only she was green.

Jettis Jyur

[ Planetside - Risa - Haron Island - Central Hub ]

As the two came inside, arm in arm, he glanced around at the surroundings. It wasn't much, but he assumed this wasn't the showroom per se. More a holdover. As they came to the woman, he noted her looking him up and down. At her next comment, he couldn't help but raise his brows, but he contained his scoff. He definitely didn't see himself as unattractive, but he supposed it didn't matter because he wouldn't be dancing anyways. So, he shrugged it off without a word, as they moved to meet this infamous 'Tani'.

As soon as his eyes met hers, he paused. She was stunning, easily one of the most gorgeous women he'd ever seen. And that was saying quite a bit, considering how much he'd traveled the stars. Then he remembered he was supposed to be undercover, smitten to his wife. Breaking his gaze with Tani, he nodded to Nira and unraveled his arm from her waist. "Seems like you're up. Good luck. I'll be around." With that, he stepped off to the side, watching for a few minutes. With the exception of Nira, it seemed the entire group were gorgeous Orion women, and they moved expertly. As he watched Tani, he paused, pondering for a moment. Did he still have immunity?

Long ago he once had, and had taken full advantage of it. However, he had no idea if it should wear off, or if the pheremones would still have no effect on him. He moved, retreating slightly as he realized that may be another concern. He wouldn't be surprised at all if that was apart of the "show", so he surmised that making his exit now would be beneficial. With a careful sweep of the room, he headed towards a door, not the one they'd entered at. Rather, it lead deeper into the building, and as he passed through, he quickly stepped out of sight of the auditorium. Pausing, he held his breath as he listened, trying to pick up any sort of noise - voices, footsteps, anything he could get ahold of. After several moments of nothing, he tentatively started walking up the hallway, footsteps near silent as he moved. As he walked further, he began hearing faint voices, seemingly above him in the second story. He hadn't yet completed his exploration of the first story though. So as he peered in each room, finally one caught his eye. It seemed to be a safe, so with a glance around him, he stepped in the door.

He looked around thoroughly, as he scanned for any tripwires or traps set. Slipping in without issue, he kneeled next to the safe. It looked like an old earth lock, with a dial that twirled in 360 degrees. Standing, he would need to try to crack the code, but first he rounded to the computer on the desk. Leaning over, he attempted to boot it up, only to come to a password locked screen. Damn. Maybe he could find some clues if he kept looking, though. Rifling through the desk he found a flashdrive. Slipping it into his pocket, he figured this had to contain some good information. As he rifled through papers, taking a quick glance over them, it seemed like most of them were just details on the showgirls. Receipts, schedules, resumes and the like. Nothing particularly interesting. So, he returned to the computer. They would need to return another night with a key recovery, or a keylogger. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out half a dozen tiny, pea sized squares. Upon first glance, they looked like nothing - if one looked extremely close they could notice the glint of a lens. They were small cameras, that could be easily used to bug a room. Placing them carefully, he activated all of them, and double checked to make sure they weren't visible. Slipping out of the room, he searched all the rest to find nothing of interest. One seemed to be a power room for the girls, the other just a bathroom. All there was left to do, was head up the stairs.

As he moved, he tried to reach out and gain a vague idea of how many people he would be up against. It didn't seem like a large crowd, maybe just a small gathering, so as he quietly crept up the stairs. He kept to the side to avoid creaks, crouching as he climbed up. Stopping at the apex of the steps, he stayed frozen for a moment, just listening. The sound of muffled voices were louder now, so he edged forward to peer around the corner. He saw a man standing at the entrance of door, loosely pacing around. He watched him for a moment, taking note of his pacing pattern and ducking back around the corner when the man started moving towards his position. Sucking in a breath quietly, he closed his eyes, counting to ten as the man approached.

Springing up and around, Jettis delivered a swift kick, spinning as the man covered his face and reeled in an attempt to recover. Reaching out swiftly, he pulled a small hypospray from his pocket with one hand, arm snaking around the other. the move was swift and silent as he injected it, pulling the man into a headlock breaking his fall. Gently  laying him down, he shoved they hypospray back into his pocket and knelt. This was fast acting, but it also dissipated quickly, so he would need to move fast. Searching the man, he noted the tattoo on his arm. It seemed familiar, as if he'd seen it before. Taking a picture, he surmised if needed, they could paint an artificial tattoo on as identification. Continuing his search, he pulled a disruptor pistol off the man, taking note of the make and model, before replacing it into the man's holster. Taking it would be of no benefit right now, but he could take note that it was possibly a Romulan pistol.

The rest of his search uncovered nothing, so quickly he stood, sneaking his way back downstairs. The man would be fine, and most likely wouldn't have seen enough of Jettis to ever identify him. Strolling back into the main auditorium harmlessly, he retook a seat, nodding at another audience member. "Sorry, excuse me," he pardoned himself as he slipped into a seat and focused back on the show.

Nira Said

[Lieutenant Nira Said | Market | Haron Island | Leyven Sea | Risa]

"So," said Tani. "One of my girls recommended you."

"That's right," said Nira.

"You certainly look it," said Tani, looking her over. "The show will be starting shortly, so I doubt there's time for a rehearsal, but you look like an expert. I think you'll know what you're doing. All you have to do is put this on."

She gave Nira an outfit that...wow, she loved the outfit instantly. It was studded with jewels, especially the loincloth like the other Orion girls wore. It was no different from Nira's old dancing outfit. Just two metal shells that were a little light, with straps around the back, and the aforementioned jewel studded loin cloth.

Once it was time, Nira danced her usual moves with the other Orion girls. Of course, it seemed there were some additional girls that weren't Orion; there were one or two Bolians, maybe a Bajoran, but Nira seemed to be the best of the non-Orions. And she had the audience's attention riveted.

Though her observational awareness took note of Commander Jyur sneaking back into the audience. That meant he must've done as much sneaking around as he could.

"Reading the mind can be like reading a book at times. Sometimes it is a lot more preferable to skim the pages, but one needs to immerse himself or herself totally into it to discover the truth, if necessary."
