Rayek and Lilly - Well, I Skewed Up

Lilly took a deep breath as she stood outside the Commander's door. She knew she needed to have this meeting. After breaching protocols on the last mission, she could have gotten the away team killed. She raised her hand to push the signal button, hesitating for a brief moment before pushing it.

Rayek was seated at his desk reviewing Ensign Hansen's personnel record on his PADD.  He'd been surprised to receive a request to meet from her.  It typically meant there was a problem.  As such, he'd done his best to schedule the meeting with her as soon as he could.

He'd done a quick search of any recent obituaries, with the thought that perhaps she was needing to request some time off due to a death in the family.. but he'd found no evidence of that.

The chime at his door rang and he noted that the Ensign was right on time.

"Come in." he called, his words activating the door to slide open.  Rayek rose from his seat as the ensign entered and he offered a polite nod.

"Welcome, Ensign Hansen. Please have a seat." Despite his words, Rayek intentionally didn't specify where she was to sit.

In his office there was three seating options available to visitors.  A cosy loveseat set against the side wall near to the replicator, a folding metal chair that looked to be rather uncomfortable set directly in front of his desk facing his own seat, and a cushioned armchair placed to the side of his desk so that a person seated there could talk to him more informally and without having to talk across a work surface.

While Ensign Hansen selected where to sit, Rayek walked over towards the replicator.  "Can I get you a beverage?" he inquired, following the proper social customs he'd been taught years ago by his friend, Dr. Vaughan, back on Challenger when he was just a Crewman.

He looked over the replicator selections for a moment before selecting a lemon-ginger tea.

"Welcome, Ensign Hansen. Please have a seat." Lilly nodded. She sat in the folding metal chair and sat attention, Her posture was one at the ready.

"Can I get you a beverage?" Rayek asked. Lilly thought quickly. "No thank you Commander, I was enough of a burden last mission"

"Come in." Lilly walked into the XO's office, Ready to face something she had been wanting todo. The Commander had stood and nodded at her after she walked in.

"Welcome, Ensign Hansen. Please have a seat." Lilly nodded. She sat in the folding metal chair and sat attention, Her posture was one at the ready.

"Can I get you a beverage?" Rayek asked. Lilly thought quickly. "No thank you Commander, I was enough of a burden last mission"

Rayek withheld the eyebrow quirk that threatened when he noted she sat on the metal chair.  She obviously felt she was deserving of punishment, and her words a moment later confirmed this.  Hmmph. So this wasn't a leave request meeting.

With his tea in hand, Rayek returned to his seat.  He set the tea aside to cool as he looked across his desk towards the Sec/Tac ensign.

"Why don't you share with me your perspective of what happened?"

Rayek withheld the eyebrow quirk that threatened when he noted she sat on the metal chair.  She obviously felt she was deserving of punishment, and her words a moment later confirmed this.  Hmmph. So this wasn't a leave request meeting.

With his tea in hand, Rayek returned to his seat.  He set the tea aside to cool as he looked across his desk towards the Sec/Tac ensign.

"Why don't you share with me your perspective of what happened?"

Lilly titled her head a bit, Confused on what part he wanted. "Commander Sorry for the dumbness, But do you want me to start at the start before all hell broke loose, Or when I breach at least 3 star fleet protocols within a span of 10 minutes?" Lilly asked the Commander.

Lilly titled her head a bit, Confused on what part he wanted. "Commander Sorry for the dumbness, But do you want me to start at the start before all hell broke loose, Or when I breach at least 3 star fleet protocols within a span of 10 minutes?" Lilly asked the Commander.

"Summarize the start and then get to the point." he answered.

Since Rayek wasn't on the ship for most of the clone-take over, his interpretation of the events were based on the reports he received from those involved.  At the moment, Rayek was baffled as to which three protocols the ensign had broken.

Since Rayek wasn't on the ship for most of the clone-take over, his interpretation of the events were based on the reports he received from those involved.  At the moment, Rayek was baffled as to which three protocols the ensign had broken.

Lilly nodded. "Basic test mission turned Intel mission, I ended talking smack about the CEO, Which was fact proven, Then not to long after you left...I...um...Lost it on Lt. Broadshire, He asked me, 'œTactical, what is your assessment for how we are to evade the pods if our plan is unsuccessful?' and my response was 'What do you think Lt.?! I have tried at least 4 and nothing has work, I am doing what the Commander asked and You can probably tell how that's going!? I am...Argh', So there's already two breaches of Protocols, and not too long after the knock off version of Captain Tekin came over, I started to have a feeling that something wasn't right....So when I could, I wanted to reach out to you, I overheard a couple of other officers mention you molar mike, So I used that and breached the 3rd and final Protocol,"

'Talking smack' about the CEO?  It took a moment to decipher the slang term used.  Oh yes, he remembered now.  The woman had decided to offer her personal opinion of Lek's command choices.

"As I recall, at the time I gave you a verbal warning about the Commander Lek opinion."

"As for the second breach of protocol, Lieutenant Broadshire, did not make mention of it in his report.  While it's possible he may have forgotten, I feel it more likely that the doctor has chosen to understand that your outburst was an anomalous reaction to the stress at the time, and not a true representation of your behaviour."

That did seem like something the doctor would do.

Then mention of a 'molar mike' had the Romulan confused for a moment until he realized that Hansen meant his surgically inserted ear comm.  It tracked the subtle movements of his jaw and lips and translated them into a discreet comm message.

"Your third breach of protocol, was rather useful at the time.  You are aware of what you did wrong so there is no need to highlight it."

Rayek listened to the Ensign argue against herself, and was puzzled.  It seemed like the woman wanted a reprimand... or a new posting? The latter worried him.

"Fortunately, Ensign, you knew enough to contact me discreetly via my ear comm."

Rayek purposely neglected to point out that, this particular strategy wouldn't have worked had Starfleet Intelligence not surgically removed the same device from his clone prior to being brought to the station.

"If your purpose here is to be given a formal reprimand, I can oblige; however, I feel you are more than aware of what could have been the consequences and thus will avoid doing so in the future."

Rayek listened to the Ensign argue against herself, and was puzzled.  It seemed like the woman wanted a reprimand... or a new posting? The latter worried him.

"Fortunately, Ensign, you knew enough to contact me discreetly via my ear comm."

Rayek purposely neglected to point out that, this particular strategy wouldn't have worked had Starfleet Intelligence not surgically removed the same device from his clone prior to being brought to the station.

"Truly sir, I'm angry with my self more than any thing, I told myself the day before I left for this posting I wouldn't mess up, But what I did falls into my lines of failure." Lilly moved a bit to wake her now falling asleep leg up.

Rayek nodded his head acknowledging her words.   "I've been told that we are our harshest critic. As stated, I had no intention of reprimanding you. What I might suggest, if you feel the need for something tangible as a 'punishment' - is additional training hours, focusing on the Chain of Command and appropriate Bridge conduct."

Rayek looked across the desk still trying to understand the woman's motivation for this meeting.  If it had been he who had made such errors, yes he would have berated himself but he would not have drawn his superior's attention to the mistakes a second time.

Lilly let this sink in. I could always use the reading.. Rayek had his own thoughts on Frontier Day, which he did not feel appropriate to share with a junior officer.

"We all lost people that day," he said as a reminder that she wasn't alone in her loss. He then continued to address her words. "I understand and respect your drive to do the best that you can. Take this as a learning opportunity to not make the same mistakes again."

Turning aside a moment, Rayek picked up his tea and sipped at it testingly.  It was just the perfect temperature.  He took one more sip before setting it down again and looking back to the Ensign

"I'll send you the Holodeck's Academy syllabus and you can review the topics we discussed at your leisure. I will not follow up on your progress as this is not a formal reprimand and it will not be noted in your file. Understood?"
