Starbase expansion timeline?

Hi

When Katra was 'created' is started as a 'small-ish' sized station.
There was, however, the option to grow and become larger over time.
I'm curious to know if that is still the idea and when it might start happening?

Hello Zex,

Katra has been in a state of almost continuous expansion since her creation.  The steps to her expansion have included:

1) The expansion of the internal bays to accommodate larger craft.  Originally, she had three small internal bays in the central structure, and these three bays were combined into one larger bay.

2) The installation of a Starlifter around the Trialus sun is considered a Katra auxiliary installation, supporting Katra despite not being physically attached to it, and collects fuel and other elements to keep Katra self-sufficient.

3) The installation of the orbital drydock allows extensive repair, refit, and even construction of starships.  This is also considered a Katra auxiliary installation.

4) The Starfleet outpost on Meridian, the Kir'Shara outpost (built from the remains of the crashed USS Kir'Shara) also functions as an auxiliary installation that supports Katra's operations on the ground.

There may be further auxiliaries that enhance Katra's capabilities in the future, and the station is also modular and can be added to in the future, but we have taken these enhancements as small steps.

And of course, there was at one time the desire not to compete with Columbus, which was the 'Big Boy' station of the fleet.  Keeping Katra smallish is part of our frontier feel.  Something big like Columbus would seem indomitable and not at all subject to the dangers of frontier living.
