LOA Archives / Reserve Request - Chigorra
August 21, 2021, 11:06:02 PM

Character(s) affected: Chigorra
Assigned ship(s): Katra Station
Period of time absent: Nine months.
Date of last period of activity: 21 August 2021
Date returning: 21 April 2022

Any relevant comments: Thank you for a fun run on Katra! I'd like to return to Chigorra someday. I plan on submitting a character intended for the Discovery, as a replacement Alt. April 2022 should be on or about the time I'd possibly qualify for a second alt character, so I can revisit Chigorra then. Please don't delete her, I just want to reserve the sub-account and the character.

As for an IC explanation, Chigorra was recalled to the Empire to serve in House G'Khran's military forces as part of a House War with another House. If you need a house for them to be enemies with, make it House I'Prgho. Cheers!

Old Topics / Message for Eydis
July 18, 2021, 01:29:30 PM

Hey, Katra Team! A few of us would like to send a little message to poster Eydis, the player who runs the Tholian Ambassador of the same name, who we haven't heard from in a couple months. If you are interested in having a message ready by them (hopefully), please feel free to make a post in this thread, and the link to the thread will be shared with them in an e-mail sent at some point in the near future. Even if you might not know them, please don't feel as though you can't participate. Thanks!

Character Bio: Chigorra is a Klingon Ambassador. Posted to an embassy on Katra Station, like Eydis for the Tholians, Chigorra's role is to represent the Klingon Empire not only to the Federation on Katra Station, but to the wide variety of races who pass through the station and its surrounding space. She serves the Empire, and her House. More Biographical Information Presented below in Additional Information. As a player note, I will of course follow any guidance or directives from the SIMM-runner for what the Klingon Empire is doing.

I play Lagar, this is an alt character for me.

Additional information:
To understand Chigorra, it is necessary to understand her House and its History. If you just need to get an idea of Chigorra's life, skip down to "˜A New Empire Under Martok'.

Ancient History of House G'Khran
In Klingon legend, the first Klingon and his created mate destroyed the gods who made them and burned the heavens. In the stories of House G'Khran, their ancient founder was a hunter of the surviving servants of those old Gods, and a seeker of any Klingon who dared to take up worship of the dead deities. The tales, exaggerated as they may be, tell that G'Khran led a brutal campaign to discover these religious adherents and purge them, conducting a kind of reverse Inquisition; he sought not heretics, but believers. G'Khran was hated by his contemporaries as he entered Houses without permission and questioned the loyalty of any who might be a worshipper of the wrong powers. The spirit of G'Khran lives on in an unusual way, as descendants of his House tend to eschew the deification of Kahless the Unforgettable in some kind of avoidance of any religious practice. Where many Klingons worship Kahless as a deity himself, those of G'Khran turn away from monasteries and priests and the religious system that, in their eyes, merely replaced the Klingon Gods with new Gods: Kahless and Lukara.

The ancient family crest of House G'Khran.
House G'Khran and Chancellor Duras
Prior to the Klingon succession crisis and subsequent Civil War between the Houses of Duras and Gowron in 2367-68, House G'Khran was a known supporter of Gowron and his family. The crisis drew the two families closer as Gowron demanded the full support of his allies; as a consequence of their allegiance with Gowron, House G'Khran suffered politically and economically; the Duras family had many supporters and a suspicious amount of power in the Empire, and they were adept at suppressing their opposition on many fronts. House G'Khran lost much during the war; many House ships were destroyed in the infighting, and the two eldest of the three males of House G'Khran were slain, leaving Chigorra's father, Loesh, as the unexpected head of the House.

Duras Ascends, G'Khran Fades
The revelation that the Romulan Star Empire backed the Duras family drastically altered the course of  this particular Klingon Civil War. Duras supporters withdrew in droves, disgusted with the deception and the knowing involvement of Romulans by the House of Duras. Loesh of House G'Khran, despite his House's history of friendship with the House of Gowron, was not among those placed in positions of power in the new Empire, or the reformed Klingon High Council. Though House G'Khran was rewarded for its long-time support, the House had been devastated by the Civil War and shaken by the loss of the two eldest sons. There was little to gain from elevating Loesh to the Council, and only a few Duras territories were ceded to G'Khran, while others went to Houses who needed more urging to come around to Gowron's way. House G'Khran would have to bring honor to its name and regain its prestige some other way.

Cleansing Romulan Influence
At the conclusion of the Klingon Civil War in 2368, House G'Khran, as an early Gowron ally and enemy of the forces of Duras, chose to perform its duty in a way that called upon its legendary roots in the time of the slaughtering of the Klingon Gods. Loesh claimed the right to lead efforts to root out the exposed Romulan corruption in the Empire and, perhaps most importantly to Gowron, convert any remaining Duras loyalists to Gowron sympathizers. Given Imperial commission to conduct this work, House G'Khran engaged in the work with a bloody furor, essentially commandeering the institution of Klingon Intelligence to its own ends for several years to accomplish this bloody, ugly mission. The hate for the inquisitions of G'Khran was renewed toward his descendants in the modern era as Klingon interrogated Klingon, storming homes with minimal warrants or demanding records of meetings and fleet movements and subspace communications based on hearsay and rumor. Gowron was pleased that it was House G'Khran who was seen to be doing this work, and not the High Chancellor; let the people despise the blunt instrument, rather than the hand quietly ordering its strikes.

Chigorra is Born!
In 2370, Chigorra is born, the youngest of six sisters, and elder of three brothers who will be born after her during the Dominion War. Loesh and his wife, Lady Ch'deth, had daughter after daughter, with Chigorra thankfully being the last when they suddenly begin having son after son. Chigorra grows up among sisters raised in the era depicted above, with House G'Khran seeking Romulan sympathizers and spies with wicked conviction. Her upbringing is further shaped by the years to come...

The Dominion Cold War
During the time of the "˜Cold War' with the Dominion, House G'Khran was vocal in their support of an alliance with the Federation against the Gamma Quadrant superpower. This support flipped like a coin when rumors, and Klingon Intelligence Reports, began to circulate that the Dominion had taken control of the Cardassian Central Command; the Klingons, and House G'Khran in particular, had strong feelings about foreign interference in a legitimate government. In 2372, when the Klingon Empire openly pursued an invasion of Cardassia, Chigorra's family participated in as full force as it could muster; meager compared to the ships and soldiers of the greater houses, but passionate to drive out this Gamma Quadrant invader and acquire new Cardassian lands!

The Dominion Hot War
House G'Khran is called upon to serve in its ancient capacity yet again when General Martok is revealed to have been a Changeling infiltrator in 2373. The revelation that even a well-known General could be so perfectly impersonated provides new challenges for Chigorra's family. The inclusion of the Romulans into the Alpha/Beta Quadrant alliance in 2374 was a significant breaking point for House G'Khran's loyalty to Gowron; Loesh bitterly opposed accepting the Romulans, given their attempted manipulations of the Klingon Empire only years ago. His opposition led to personal censure by Chancellor Gowron, and the end of the close relations their two houses ostensibly shared. This break led to House G'Khran ships tending to find themselves in the most brutal areas of fighting during the war. Chigorra's two eldest sisters, 16 and 17 respectively, were killed in battles during the Dominion War, as did Loesh's last brother, his last two sisters, and many of their own children. The G'Khran dynasty shrank greatly during these dark times.

A New Empire Under Martok
At the conclusion of the Dominion War in 2375, House G'Khran was in relative shambles, as are most Klingon Houses. Loesh focuses on building a relationship with the new Klingon High Chancellor, former General Martok, and on raising his three sons born after Chigorra. Chigorra and her surviving siblings are all part of the effort to help this Empire, and their House, rebuild. Even as children, they helped with managing the House's remaining resources, reorganizing their House soldiers and fleets, and coordinating what few off-planet holdings that were still House G'Khran's. Chigorra found herself most interested in managing these foreign worlds, moving resources to and from them, and writing and dispatching orders to House governors. In the greater Empire, the war engine of conquest was forced to become a system of repair and consolidation, and Klingon Intelligence under Martok shifted to become a force of safety and stability.

First Year at Klingon Academy
11 years pass, and Chigorra becomes 16 and is accepted into Klingon Academy on Q'onoS in late 2387. Throughout her time at the school, she was trained extensively in starship operations, hand-to-hand combat and the use of scanners and communications devices and Klingon weaponry. In traditional Klingon style, much of this schooling was hands-on, and the equivalent of two years at the Academy were spent in space aboard-ship. Chigorra's earliest postings in her first-year were entry-level positions on the IKS Chuvon, operating scanners and conducting the equivalent of Klingon science work. This meant interpreting scans, understanding the effects of enemy weapons on her vessel's ability to attack, or helping the ship avoid or navigate stellar phenomena. Her supervisor, the Junior Watch Officer, was lazy and slow to complete his tasks; as Klingons did not often value science operations, his lack of effort was ignored, but not by Chigorra. After two months Chigorra, sick of the indolence of her superior, approached him on the bridge and beat him to death, assuming his position and his station for the remaining four months of that mission. It was in this position that she was able to have new kinds of interactions with non-Klingons beyond those she experienced as a young noblewoman repaired a battered House, and she found the experiences fascinating. They were each so different from the Klingon people, and from each other; they had their own beliefs, their own values, and their own systems of government. She began to grow a desire to learn more about these "˜others'.

Chigirra's brand of attending Klingon Academy, located on her right bicep.
Further Training at Klingon Academy
When not on Q'onoS being trained in planet-side skills such as wilderness survival or ground warfare, Chigorra continued to pursue opportunities to serve on ships which performed forward reconnaissance, as they most often interacted with non-Klingons. By serving on a starship, she could visit the planets of Imperial subjects and those outside the empire, and communicate with them in space. In her second and third years at the Academy in 2388 and 2389, Chigorra continued shifted from Science to Operations briefly, but found herself drawn to the Communications station most often. In this position, she studied signals to determine the position of enemies or valuable resources, hailed other vessels or jammed their own communications, and she was the go-to warrior someone was needed to"¦ talk. Whenever her battlegroup assembled teams to interact with non-Klingons, Chigorra volunteered. When other Klingons stepped back from being assigned to talk or coordinate or discover, Chigorra stepped up. Captains began to rely on her, because when she handled these scenarios, the Klingons tended to secure more plunder and more valuable information than when the typical Warrior was assigned to the task. Chigorra brought Honor to her Empire, and to her House.

The Gorn-Klingon-Iconian-Federation War
Chigorra was just beginning her fourth year at the Academy in 2390 when the earliest moments of the Gorn-Klingon-Iconian-Federation War began, and the Academy transformed. Driven now to fuel the machine of the Klingon Empire in an active war, the Academy began openly and explicitly training cadets to combat the Federation, and ships crewed by Academy cadets participated in space-battles, Chigorra's ships among them. When she graduated from the Academy in 2391, she joined the G'Khran family ships, serving under the leadership of her elder  sisters in battle against the Federation. Her family made immediate use of her skills in science and communications stations, and she continued to volunteer on away missions and conducted the interrogation of captured prisoners. Her then-eldest brother and the sister just older than her were both killed in honorable combat with the Federation during this time. Which Federation ships defeated her siblings I leave vague deliberately, in case another Player would like to coordinate a related backstory here.

Klingon Intelligence, and the Iconian Purge
(Chigorra's Life In This Section Is Confidential! Player-Characters Should Not Know This Part About Her!)
When the treachery of the Iconians was finally revealed in 2393, Chancellor Martok revitalized the then-desiccated Klingon Intelligence service. Klingon Intelligence had reached a point where it was almost entirely defunded after the conclusion of the Dominion War, but with this Iconian embarrassment, the Empire had suddenly rediscovered its need for Intelligence work, particularly in the areas of counterintelligence and traditional espionage. Chigorra's reputation in the Academy, and in her service to the Empire with her family's ships, made her an ideal appointment as an agent. Chigorra became a critical actress in the complex and brutal efforts to seek out and purge Iconian influences from the Klingons and their servitor-worlds, acting as an inquisitor in the service of the Empire. She performed well; it is notable, however, that no Iconian agents or their contacts ever seemed to survive Klingon interrogation.

Player Characters should not automatically know anything about Chigorra's intelligence service. She will not mention it, it is not reported in her resume, she was never compromised, so please play ignorant of this fact.

Agent Chigorra
(This is still something Player-Characters should not know. It is not common knowledge!)
For the next five years, from 2393 to 2398, Chigorra continued her work for Klingon Intelligence, bringing honor to her House and to the Empire. With the Iconian influence scrubbed, Chigorra and her fellow agents conducted counterintelligence work within Imperial borders, cleaning rebellious leaders off servitor-worlds or eliminating any who dared to act as contacts for hostile foreign powers. Chigorra performed sabotage work, assassinations, covert surveillance, and she gathered intelligence that she had no right to collect. Chigorra performed this work, but gradually, she began to feel no passion for it. She began to desire to leave a different kind of mark on the universe, one with fewer knives in the dark, and far less torture.

A New Calling "" Ambassador of the Klingon Empire!
Klingon Ambassadorships have been a curious thing in the Empire. Historically, the role they fill isn't always a desirable one among Klingons. The position does grant respect, and some significant negotiating power, and all Ambassadors are representatives of the Empire and its will. Just the same, some Klingon Ambassadors have been famously corrupt, yielding their truer loyalty to the Romulan Star Empire or the Iconians or even the Cardassians and the Federation as well. In the restructuring of the Empire after the death of Gowron, Chancellor Martok sought Ambassadors who would genuinely fill the role as it is often interpreted by other nations, and further sought to appoint Klingons who were above reproach and beyond the temptations of foreign powers. An energetic daughter of House G'Khran, herself known for being willing to talk, her talents in battle and in academic study, and known to those with the clearance as a capable Intelligence Agent, was an easy appointment for Martok to make in the year 2398, elevating her from her unspoken tasks in Intelligence to an Ambassadorship.

Ambassadorial Training for a Year
Chigorra began a training regimen that she half-devised herself, with the uninterested approval of the diplomatic coordinators on Q'onoS. She arranged to spend several months at a time with a number of current Klingon ambassadors, essentially interning with each of them in their respective duties. Which worlds she interned at I leave vague deliberately, in case another Player would like to coordinate a related backstory here.

The Klingon Government building which coordinates Ambassadorial efforts and diplomatic foreign affairs.
Everyone in an Embassy is a Spy "" Chigorra Requests Katra Station
Chigorra specifically requested (read: DEMANDED) a posting on Katra Station. Its existing Federation Diplomatic staff and its position in the Gamma Quadrant was an irresistible combination. Working there, she could continue building relations between Martok's Empire and the Federation, and establish formal relations with the Gamma Quadrant races. It is notable that, to many, there is a belief that everyone who works in an embassy is involved in espionage. From the cook to the custodian to the "˜diplomat', everyone in an embassy is a spy. Chigorra's role as an Ambassador isn't too radically different from her work in Klingon Intelligence; she gathers reports, makes contacts, and conducts various kinds of surveillance. It is a rather natural posting for her, and she relishes the chance to serve her Empire on Katra.

The Youngest Daughter, A Marital Resource
The Klingon Empire's House system is Feudal, in a way, and allegiances and treaties and political bonds are often secured through carefully arranged marriages. The role of a daughter, in a noble system, is to be married to another family for any number of reasons, and bear children, thus linking two Houses together and encouraging alliances. Some daughters might be married as soon as they come of age and once there is a political need, while other daughters might be held "˜in reserve' until an opportunity arises. Weak houses have fewer marriage opportunities, and houses with many daughters may not need all of them right away. Chigorra, the youngest daughter after her parents struggled to manage to create any sons, is unmarried, as are her next two sisters. This is because Loesh and Ch'Deth have not yet found a viable alliance to attempt to build with a marriage for the more valuable, older sisters. Chigorra's marriage may end up becoming a plot point once or twice.

That's a Klingon, Alright "" Chigorra's Physiology
Chigorra is Klingon. Standing on un-booted, ridged Klingon feet she is six feet and two inches in height, and unarmored she weighs two-hundred and forty pounds. Chigorra's shoulders are broad, her fists are the size of skulls, and she has the chiseled abdominal structure of a professional athlete. Her lion's mane of dark hair surrounds her ridged skull like a deadly enemy. Her teeth are sharp and her brows are well-furred and expressive. Her scars are numerous; many carry tales worth telling!

You Are Aware Of Chigorra When She Is Near - The Other Senses and Chigorra
Chigorra smells like a Klingon. She does indeed bathe from time to time in sonic showers, but aboard-ship or while hunting or on an expedition, she is satisfied to simply scrape the filth off her skin with a bone-comb. Despite the showers, she always radiates a proper Klingon Musk like any of her race; it would be fragrant, vaguely pheramonal, and athletic. Decide for yourself how your olfactory senses deal with it. When she walks, she stomps on booted feet. When she talks, she talks loudly and proudly. Even when she stands in one place and breathes, her chest rises and falls visibly, and when she sleeps, she SNORES to frighten away the weak! Her skin is unlotioned and her hands are as rough as a rhino's knee. Her Imperial Klingon uniform is well-built and integrates standard Klingon armor; it is designed to reduce blunt trauma, withstand the brunt of a knife slash, and help Chigorra survive the worst of an energy blast or two. Her formal uniforms and civilian attire are never worn disheveled. She always wears BOOTS. She has never worn a DRESS. When hunting or attempting to be stealthy, she is decently skilled, but her ability to be undetected pales in comparison to trained agents of Romulus or Cardassia. She might use a bow when hunting creatures with particularly fine senses.

Telepathy "" Reading Chigorra
Chigorra is aware of the existence of telepaths, and she knows which races have this ability. Klingons have no telepathic ability themselves, and no means to know when they are being probed or scanned or sensed. They can only guess when they think another is looking into their mind psionically. Her training in Klingon Intelligence, and further training as she was prepared for her Ambassadorial duties, means that she has developed very crude and basic methods to mask secrets in her memories. She only brings these abilities to bear when she believes she has need to; in other words, she would only employ this defense if she has reason to believe she is being scanned against her will.

Chigorra Resisting Telepathy
On a typical day just walking about, Chigorra's thoughts drift between visions of violence, hunting, poetry, training, biting, history, people"¦ There is a general mist of blood and pain and curiosity that tends to overshadow it all. Klingon Intelligence training urged agents to use this general miasma of Klingon thought as a violent shield when encountering telepaths. Chigorra, upon employing this defense, brings to the forefront of her mind a mess of violent, gory, and potentially disturbing Klingon thoughts. In her beliefs, if they wish to peer into the Klingon mind, let them see the worst of it, and let that fear shove them out of the forbidden places in her skull.

That's a Thing!? - Klingon Intelligence and Chigorra
Please note that Chigorra's time in Klingon Intelligence is a character secret. She does not advertise this fact, and she was never compromised as an agent while she was in the service. There are no Klingon records available to foreign powers indicating that she operated in Intelligence, and only those in relevant Klingon command positions would have access to this knowledge. Chigorra keeps the fact that she was in Intelligence hidden, to the best of her ability. Whatever the case, Klingon Intelligence is indeed "˜A Thing'. The Klingon Empire has maintained Intelligence operatives for centuries. The Klingon perspective on Intelligence activities tends to vary depending on the decade and the Klingon you're talking to. What every era has in common with regard to Intelligence is the demand for success, and the ruthlessness with which the Empire deals with the failure of an agent.

Chigorra's Daily Carry
In addition to her uniform, Chigorra carries a variety of equipment with her about the station. First among them, on her right hip in a sheath, is her daqtagh, her Klingon blade. She carries a Klingon Communicator, designed to accept encrypted communications that are routed through signal devices in her embassy office. She carries a Klingon version of a PADD, designed with touch interfaces just a tad larger to accommodate Klingon fingers. In her right boot, Chigorra conceals a kut'luch, a short, straight blade which has an earned reputation as a weapon used by assassins. In her pockets, she carried an odd bit of metal shrapnel she uses for keeping her teeth clean, and a worn bone-comb for quick grooming of hair and skin. She does not carry her bat'leth around, and would only carry her disruptol pistol if local laws allow civilian open-carry and there is an on-going danger in the area.

Chigorra's beat-up communicator. Klingons tend to be pretty rough with their possessions.
Chigorra's Daqtagh
Chigorra is never without her daqtagh, emblazoned with her family crest. This particular blade was her aunt's on her mother's side, the now-passed Lady Goro'chu. Lady Goro'chu was a promiscuous creature, and was known for slaying three women who challenged her upon discovering the infidelity of their husbands; infidelity for which Lady Goro'chu was at fault. The Lady was finally slain in battle with a weaker fighter after becoming drunk on bloodwine and giving far too many openings to her opponent. It was an honorable death, to be killed by a jealous woman in a declared combat, and Chigorra always thought her aunt was hilarious and worthy of emulation in several ways. Chigorra has put the blade to use many times in her life. It remains in a sheath crafted from the scales of a Grishnar Cat she killed when she was twelve.

Chigorra's Daqtagh, formerly that of her slain Aunt, the Lady Goro'Chu.
Chigorra and Bat'leths
The Klingon woman trains regularly with a variety of melee weapons, particularly her Bat'leth. She varies between two common layouts of the weapon, believing that she should be able to pick up any Bat'leth and put it to use, rather than train herself to use a blade with a specific configuration and weight. In her life, Chigorra has engaged in Bat'leth blood duels with other Klingons nine different times; this does not include military or group melee engagements. She is a moderately skilled duelist, but would never call herself a Master.

Chigorra's Disruptor Pistol
Her disruptor pistol is an old model; a classic, built in 2282 and used by her maternal grandmother, the one-armed Lady Brogah. When Lady Brogah was assassinated, the pistol was inherited by Chigorra's Mother, Lady Ch'Deth, and was used to slay the assassin and the house who hired her. The pistol was later passed on to Chigorra when she completed a military combat course a few years before signing up for Klingon Academy. The thing looks as old as it is; it is an inaccurate weapon, crude in design, but destructive. She has a holster made of leather from a Kolar Beast she hunted as a teenager.

Chigorra's crusty old disruptor pistol, formerly that of her slain maternal grandmother, Lady Brogah.
What Do Federation Citizens Know Of House G'Khran
For a typical federation citizen, House G'Khran is just one of many Klingon noble houses, and is unlikely to be named in media the average person sees or reads. A typical citizen would not recognize the name. For Starfleet officers involved in wars with Klingons as allies or enemies, House G'Khran was far from the most powerful house; by chance, a Starfleet officer may have served with a G'Khran ship, or fought against Chigorra or her siblings, but this is unlikely, they only are a few Klingons among billions. If a Starfleeter conducted deliberate research on House G'Khran, they would learn of its Ancient History, and of its allegiance with Gowron, and that it never had a seat on the High Council, and that it played a role in purging Romulans and Iconians from the Empire.

What Do Klingons Know Of House G'Khran
Klingons are much more familiar with the houses of their Empire, but typically only the real movers and shakers. Only the most studies and "˜keyed in' Klingons who read news reports and keep up with all the Feudal players would know much more about House G'Khran. If someone is a Klingon citizen, or has good Klingon contacts, they would know what I've shared above, excluding of course specific details about Chigorra herself or her secret Intelligence service. The typical warrior would not carry a strong stereotype about House G'Khran unless they were old enough to live through the Romulan or Dominion times, or were personally affected by House G'Khran inquisitorial work.
