[USS Discovery - Deck 10 - Security]

Quickly traveling through the ship, she arrived at the Deck 10, in the Security Office. Aknowledging everyone else in the room with a nod, she stood on attention and said:
"Crewman Edriron reporting for duty."

Tanner looked up from her PADD and smiled at the new Crewman. A fresh face was always welcome and one that was snappy with their posture,  "Stand easy, and welcome aboard. I'm Chief Lachlyn and I look forward to working with you."
Quote

Lilly nodded at the Operations officer, a Bajoran with a stern expression mirroring her own. She stood at attention, ready and waiting for her next set of orders. "Hello, I'm Ensign Hansen"

"Good to see you again Ensign." Tanner said with a soft nod.

Quote

As Vila arrived, she assumed her normal cool demeanor. "What is so important that it can't be handled from the Bridge?" She asked Lachlyn. "Was this the Commander's idea?" She sighed. That damned Romulan!

Tanner froze, "I..I guess it's because it was sprung on me so fast I needed time to plan. I didn't think I could explain it that well." She gave Lorut an apologetic look, "If you want, you can do your part of the drill from the Bridge. I don't want to cause an issue."

She looked to the two Ensigns, "We're going to test your ability to handle some situational changes. Somewhere on Deck Fifteen is a device. It's enclosed in a box. It's giving off a very faint signal that you won't be able to pick up unless you're within five feet of it." Tanner motions to Lorut, "When working Security, Ops is your best friend. They can tell you things nobody else can about the ship's status, its systems and what you will come up against."

Tanner grins, "To ensure this isn't too easy, Turbolift access to that deck has been disabled. You can only enter via an access panel." She looks over at Lorut, "You can also throw in a few obstacles if you like, failed systems or rogue force fields."

Checking her PADD, Tanner promptly added, "You have half an hour to find the box, safely. Any questions?"

Commander Rayek tr'Lhoell
[...]
He turned in the co-pilot seat to address the team. "This is a First Contact mission.  Our purpose is to represent the Federation and Starfleet to the best of our ability while learning what we can about the Erewhon people, who have invited us to rest and relax in their state-of-the-art-facility.  We will be discreetly assessing their level of technology, social development and potential threat.  Any questions?"

[USS Discovery | Shuttlebay]
Shaking his head in denying the Commanders questions the checked his Tricorder once again, just to make sure. Making a full analysis of their tech would be difficult without drawing any unwanted attention, especially given their heightened level of technology.

As the Shuttle prepared to take off he took out his Tricorder once more and entered some additional routines. It should perform an active scan of the surrounding area every minute as well as when he activated his combadge, as more discrete way of triggering it should he get into trouble, as well as changing the encryption algorithm of the so collected data to a higher compression and higher degree of fractalization. He also deleted the standard decryption keys and replaced them with his own.
Even if they would question his tricorder now, he hoped they at least would not be able to discern its purpose as quickly now.

Commander Rayek tr'Lhoell
[Station above Verallias II]
Once landed, Rayek led the Away Team out of the shuttle and into a large hall with several unmanned booths located between them and what appeared to be some manner of quantum-transport platform.

With a slight chin-nod towards Ramort and then towards the alien platform, Rayek gestured for the man to take discreet scans of the tech.  Meanwhile, he looked around for any sign of a greeter.

[Station above Verallias II | Shuttlebay]

He would have nearly missed the Commanders slight signal for his fascination of the room. It showcased none of the expected flourishes of a high tech civilisation, as one would guess it to display. But this sleek design was also a hint at its sophistication. New Tech usually started out being quite bulky and hard to maintain, making easy access to its parts a necessary consideration in interior design, he saw none of this on the transporters he now went nearer to.
Their platforms emanated no particular radiation he could detect with a careful glance at his devices, instead they seemed to suck surrounding radiation into themselves. A phenomena that warranted closer inspection.

Quote from: Rayek trLhoell on July 16, 2024, 05:04:52 AM

Commander Rayek tr'Lhoell

No sooner had he started to look about than the same holographic woman from the ship appeared here on the station.

"Welcome Commander tr'Lhoell and welcome to your Away Team.  You stand on the Gateway to Erewhon, where your fantasy becomes reality. In acknowledgement of your society's lack of monetary system, we are waiving the usual entrance fee.  Please head straight on through to the teleporter which will bring you down to the planet."

The hologram gestured for Rayek and the others with him to walk past the entrance booths and over towards the teleporter pad.

[Station above Verallias II | Shuttlebay]

Having to follow the others to the entrance he noted an interesting observation for his eventual report though. This station seemed so used to various cultures visiting that it adapted its behaviour on the fly. Also the existence of a fee to begin with made it obvious the society that fashioned the stations programming still very much relied on systems of monetary exchange as prevalent mean of resource distribution.
Most civilisation abandoned this stepstone of civilisation at some point, some in phases, some altogether, but a group on the level of technical sophistication this station protruded should have waived compensations for mere recreational ventures many a decade if not century ago.

The Hologram also fascinated him, he had not detected any noticeable change in energy distribution or spikes of energy hinting at emitters being activated. It had to be created by projection systems outside of his range or even being isomorphic in nature.
Erewhon didn't ring a bell for him. He could have sworn he had taken a decent enough look at the star charts before taking up his last shift on the bridge in this sector, but he couldn't remember it being listed anywhere. His classes in sociology also didn't mention any Warp Capable Civilisation on thusly named planet, certainly none more advanced than their own tech. So it had to be the name of the station or a word not caught by their translators. An idiomic anomaly great enough to exceed the translations capabilities.

Commander Rayek tr'Lhoell
[Erewhon Station]

The holographic woman smiled towards Malik as he asked questions.    "Our other guests are already enjoying the facility and immersing themselves in their fantasies.  They've been here several days already.  As to what you can expect... well that all depends on what you desire from it.  Erewhon was modeled to appear as a small urban city - such as those from Earth in the early 21st century.  To keep with this theme, guests are given holographic identities to fit with the era. We ask that you do not remove the wristband that contains the holo-emitter for your identity.  Once in the city, you are free to explore and do whatever takes your imagination."  She explained as she motioned for Rayek and the others to step onto the platform.

Rayek frowned slightly at the mention of the wristband holo-emitter.  "Are these holo-emitters truly necessary?" he balked.

The woman looked to the Romulan with a patient smile.  "Yes, it is a requirement of the site.  The wristbands serve several of functions.  It is the means of payment for service, health monitoring, but mainly it identifies you as a guest, and allows our facility to ensure you are enjoying yourselves."  The hologram motioned once more for Rayek to be the first up on the platform.  "You have nothing to worry about. The wristbands will be added during transport."

Rayek glanced around to the gathered officers.  Malik, seemed unimpressed.  Dem and Lek both seemed unhappy to be called on to do this.  The only one somewhat eager was Hansen and that wasn't necessarily a good thing since she seemed to speak to him like he was incompetent and didn't know the first thing about security, much less his job as a First Officer.  The Romulan's expression remained neutral as he tamped down on his usual acerbic commentary and was rewarded when Lieutenant Lachlyn spoke up in response to Hansen.

[...]
Erewhon - Transporter site
Rayek rematerialized in what appeared to be a bustling city center.  On the transport pad around him were several individuals, some he recognized - likely because the Erewhon computer had used a human facial design similar to what his teammates had looked like previously, though some had opted for an appearance completely different.

While Rayek didn't have easy means to see himself, his attire had changed to a dark casual outfit in place of his usual Starfleet uniform.

As he looked over the area, trying to take in his surroundings, an exotic looking woman in an ethnic floral skirt and rather revealing bikini top appeared in front of Malik with a flower lei necklace and drink in hand, which she presented to him after placing the lei around his neck.  "Aloha! Welcome to Erewhon, Malik.  My name is Candy and I'm your holographic server during your stay with us.  I'm here to make all your fantasies come true. Call on me any time day or night."

Rayek watched this exchange in surprise.  Not ever having been to Risa, Rayek didn't recognize the similar style of greeting.  He wondered, why Malik got this special treatment?

A moment later several other Polynesian-looking women and men appeared with more lei's and mai-tai's and approached those in the group that seemed to like the greeting Malik got.  One dark-haired beauty, who reminded Rayek of his own wife, placed a flower lei over his head and offered him the rum based drink.  "Aloha to you as well Commander. You can call me T'Sana.  I'll be your personal holographic server.  If you have any questions or requests for information, do not hesitate to call for me.  I am at your service. What would you like to do first?"

Rayek knew the answer he should give was 'meet with the manager of the facility' but instead he answered, "Tour your facility. Would you be my guide?"

To which T'Sana smiled and nodded in agreement.  "It would be my pleasure to tour you around."

Seeing no other options if not wanting to cause uncomfortable questions he followed the rest of the Team onto the platform.

[Erewhon | City Centre]

The transporter indeed had given him a wristband, a sleek metal band completely black and very light around his wrist. Before his eyes it seemed to change form, becoming somewhat smaller as though as adapting to his human physique. It also transformed its surface to a more reflective silver colour with pattern of interlocked sections on its surface, becoming far more difficult to distinguish from a more common piece of jewellery.
Looking down his body it seemed his uniform had been taken from him, instead being replaced by a loose summer shirt and appropriated trousers. The only hint at his uniform being embroidered bands of cyan fabric at the cuffs of his shirt.
At least his Tricorder was still present but given the ease with which the Aliens had changed his clothing and materialised the wristband around his arm it was a good guess they could have interfered with its internal workings as well.

As the men and women materialised around them and began handing out their lei`s one of them approached him as well. A woman looking to be human and around his age. She was carrying a lei made from blue and white orchids and various iridescent small seashells and extending it towards his head, obviously in an attempt to place it over his head.

"Welcome to Erewhon!"

Lek was already skeptical at the entire premise of this facility and the need to masquerade as humans only added to his suspicions. He was glad he had a phaser because it was only a matter of time before this went sideways.

Lek watched Rayek's interaction with locals unaware of his intent. It was already clear this planet would not be approved for Federation ships to call here, so he didn't understand the point of his erstwhile friend's actions. With nothing else to do, Lek's thoughts drifted back to Discovery and hoped all was well there. He hadn't been enthused to be part of this away team and hoped his participation in this one would keep his selection for another less likely.

"I wish we would just tell them we were leaving so we could get our gear back and be able to talk to the ship."

He muttered and continued to wait.

Quote from: Tanner Lachlyn on October 08, 2024, 05:57:00 PM

[Erewhon - Transport Site]

Tanner had no questions, none of which she could verbalize, at least in the moment. Everything about this place was confusing, and she'd been in a daze the entire time. She held back. She was silent. Shaking her head to the Commander, she made a soft motion and wandered away from the team. Not going far but just away enough to take in their surroundings.

The Romulan tampered down his annoyance as the Security Chief, whom he had set up this meeting for, was silent and shook her head before moving away.  Between Lachlyn's leaving and Lek's irritability (with the Romulan's keen hearing he had overheard the engineer's muttering), Rayek was at his wits end with the Away Team.  Fine, he'd question the woman himself!

Turning back to the waitress, he offered a slight apologetic smile for making her wait.

"Sorry, it seems that my colleague has changed her mind about making an order, but I could use a refreshment.  I'd like to order a small black chai - no sugar or cream.  I do however have a question first, since I'm a guest to Erewhon." He lifted his wrist which held the bracelet which had been placed upon him during transport down to the planet.

Tammy, the waitress, glanced to his wrist uncomprehendingly before looking back up to his face.  "Yes, I recognized immediately that you weren't from around here.  I know all the locals.  But I'll help however I can - what's your question?"

Rayek had expected some sign of recognition or acknowledgement regarding the bracelet, but it seemed it was a Guest identifier for the facility managers, holograms and other Guests only - not the Erewhon workers.  This knowledge changed his line of questioning.

"Hmm.. Well, you see, I was instructed not to remove this bracelet by my guide, T'Sana, or I would incur a fee, as a penalty, to my account.  I was curious as to why?  Also, I assume the cost of my beverage order will be billed to the same account.  Is there a way you can help me access my account, since my guide is not here to help? "

Tammy looked once again to the bracelet, this time more curiously at his explanation regarding the bracelet and it's penalty fee.  "I'm sorry, I don't have the slightest idea as to why. I can, however, help you locate your account.  What's your name again?  I knew it a moment ago when you called me over, but it's slipping my mind at the moment." the waitress commented as she pulled a handheld padd of sorts from her apron.

Rayek blinked in surprise at her apparent previous knowledge of his name.  He hadn't mentioned it to her.  He could understand the holograms knowing his personal information - given that the facility had scanned the ship and it's database prior to making contact.  Did the clone-locals have access to that information as well?  Were they somehow connected to the facility mainframe?  "My name is Rayek tr'Lhoell." he offered his name, which she then tried to type into the padd.

After a moment she frowned.  "I'm so sorry, Mr. Trowell,  I don't understand, why my tablet isn't connecting to the network.  I won't be able to get you any information on your account until that has been fixed."

Rayek ignored the butchering of his surname, and suspected that the problems with her tablet were arising because of the signal interference that they had created.  "That's a disappointing, however, I will try another time. Please, cancel my drink order."

Tammy nodded apologetically.  "Of course. Again, I'm so sorry, I couldn't help more."

Rayek acknowledged her apology with a slight nod, and watched as she took her leave.  She got about 3 meters from the group when her tablet pinged.  She stopped, glanced at it and then turned to look back towards him.  "Oh it's working again!"

She tapped at it's surface a moment before she looked towards Rayek and his group with a nervous frown.  "Um, I don't have access to your personal details, Mr. tr'Lhoell, but it seems your account shows as 'On Hold'. I'm afraid I can't take your order. You'll need to contact your guide for assistance."

The disguised Romulan's eyebrow rose at her sudden correct pronunciation now... Interesting.  And news of the suspended account was troubling, not that the Romulan showed his concern to the the local waitress.

"Ah, thank you for that information.  I will see to that in a bit." He waited until she had made her way back to the restaurant, before turning to seek input from the group.  This was just as Tanner returned and asked a question of her own, offering an observation.

Quote from: Tanner Lachlyn on October 08, 2024, 05:57:00 PM

"Can I ask," Tanner said to her crewmates, "Have any of you noticed how quiet this place is for somewhere so busy? I dunno about you but, back home, places like this are loud. People are loud. They bump into you. They're rushing places and moving fast."

Rayek, who usually prided himself with his observational skills, hadn't picked up on that.  He glanced about, alert to this new perception.  At first, he didn't seem to notice what Lieutenant Lachlyn was talking about - the market seemed quite active and loud to him just like any other he'd been to... but after a moment, he noted that all that loud activity only came from those wearing wristbands.  The locals were quite passive in comparison.

"Yes.  Now that you point it out. I think that might be because the locals are somehow tied into the facility's computer.  It could be muting their natural reactions, keeping them docile and under control..." he hypothesized.

Not Human? Not possessing a Soul? Just what were their standards for meassuring sentience. After what he observed, they were at least able to feel a certain degree of emotion and were capable of higher cognitive functions.

Taking another deep breath he reminded himself that he was a guest in an alien culture. Even if by Federation Standard the Manager had just demonstrate a school of thought in line with famous Warcriminals from History past, he could not do anything against it. Most important would be to get their Crew out of here and back into Federation Space.

"Allow me to once again apologize sincerely on behalf of the Federation. We didn't intend to insult your culture of physiology. Is there anything we could do to make this right. Would it help to show we really meant no harm if we apologised to the Guest that was insulted as well?"

'Artificial lifeform?!'  So this species didn't recognize the clones as having intrinsic rights because of something as intangible as a soul?  Rayek was curious how the Lyssarians reasoned that, and what part 'free will' played in it?

He continued to let Ramort lead the discussion.

The Facility Manager kept its attention on Ramort as the science officer spoke.  At the Lieutenant's suggestion to offer apologies to the insulted Guest, several of the Lyssarian's tentacles swayed above its' head. Rayek wondered at its meaning.  Was that approval?

"That would be a start..."  Wrrhssrw's answered thought the tone sounded somewhat displeased. "Typically, a fine or community service is handed out to the offender as a deterrent.  However, as I understand it, the offender in this situation doesn't even acknowledge his culpability."

There was a pause in the Lyssarian's speech as it swiped at the wall.  The scene on the wall screen changed to show the waiting room.

[Waiting Room - Erewhon]

Lek found a beverage dispenser and ordered two hot coffee like drinks, as hot as the machine would dispense. He then found a water bottle and combined with a strip of cloth he pulled from under the couch, he assembled a makeshift rotating club. It wasn't much, but anyone trying to their hands on him would regret doing so.

"You want me you twisted little squid, come and get me."

"These do not appear to be the actions of someone who is apologetic."

Rayek took in Lek's resourcefulness - somewhat impressed with the engineer's inventiveness, but also fully aware at how poorly this looked.

Rayek looked to the Facility Manager.  "I'll go speak to him." He then turned to Ramort and risked a private aside. "See if you can negotiate to have him disciplined by the Captain, rather than Lyssarian law."

The Romulan then exited the office and returned to the waiting room.

"Lek, hate to build on your paranoia, but you're being watched and its not helping with our 'we come in peace' speech. How about you disassemble that and come say 'hello' and show you aren't a violent person by nature?"

But remember what we do to collaborators," she said. She was now fully frustrated and pushed forward. Honestly, a day in a holding cell and the GOOD drugs kinda sounded nice.

Kalem sighed as the Bajoran Lieutenant started to move forward. He let his hand slide along her arm until he reached the elbow. Then, he tries to dig his thumb and fingers into the Ulnar nerve to get her to drop the Phaser in that hand.

"We Both know that the Bajoran resistance had reason to do those things to the Cardassians. They invaded our system, built a station in orbit, took our people, and forced them to work in inhumane circumstances. They killed us without reason and robbed us of valuable resources. As far as I can tell, these people have done nothing warranting our ire. I might not have lived through the Cardassian Occupation but my parents did. I remember the times that they woke up in terror from a dream. WE ARE STARFLEET OFFICERS. WE SWORE AN OATH. We are the guests here. If I need to, I will drag you back myself."

Kalem spread his legs shoulder-width apart into a Klingon combat stance.

{Erewhon Station}

Vila raised an eyebrow.

"Yes, we DID swear an oath, and part of that was to GET YOUR CREW MATES BACK," she said. "As I said, if you are going to HELP me do that, fine. If not, I'd advise you to protect your own PiPS and get out of the way," she said. "And if you think for a MINUTE that you will touch me, you will learn QUICKLY that I don't tolerate collaborators well. What will it be, new guy?" She said. She knew she sounded mean, but she didn't care. The rest of the team was still in there, and they were wasting precious minutes. "Go tell the Captain, see if I care," she said, flippantly. Because both she and Tekin knew that she. did. NOT. care. "While you're there, you can tell him that I honored my oath to the Fleet like they honored THIERS to our people," she said...the unspoken part -they did nothing-was left to hang in the air. She wouldn't be that person.

She stepped forward, around the weird worm-gram, and headed forward. She was, by now, fully upset, and bristled at the fact that a new person, who hadn't yet proved himself to her, thought that she was ABOUT to listen to not just a MAN but a man who thought he had some kind of moral high ground.

The kids these days hadn't been taught about their past. What a shame.

She barreled forward, uncaring. The phaser rifle was still out, but as yet, unfired. Anther voice joined the fricassee.

She simply ignored the voice. "I am extracting the rest of the crew," she said, aloud. "Come along if you want. Otherwise, escort whatever his name is back to the meeting place, and I'll be there if I choose to," she said. "Or I'll be in the Brig. But the others will be safe," she said.

She turned back and headed on her way down the corridor. She really should be nicer to the newbies, but they needed to learn, and there was no time like the present. Where the HELL was that RIsian? Broad...shirt? Shoulders? Something?! She really should've ran into someone else by now. Another hologram or...something.

Just as she rounded a corner, though, her Comms beeped. She clicked it on.

=/\= Lorut =/\=
This better be good.

The female Bajoran, identified by her ridged nose, carried a phaser rifle and appeared to ignore Don's orders entirely, telling him to follow her. 'Who the hell does she think she is? he thought, irritated. Security protocols regarding weapons were clear, and here she was, brandishing a phaser rifle as if regulations didn't apply to her.

The Prime Directive was critical, especially during first contact. A good first impression was paramount, and any misstep could reflect poorly on Starfleet as a whole. For Don, maintaining that delicate balance was essential—one of the many reasons why he had never wanted to be a captain. The weight of command, the pressure of making decisions that affected not just Discovery's  crew but entire civilizations, was too much. The thought of prioritizing the ship over his family was something he simply could not stomach.

"Stand down!" Don barked, his tone sharp and authoritative. His phaser was already set to stun. "Don't force me to stun you. Your overreaction could have serious consequences for Captain Tekin." - and he is much like a fatherfigure.  He shoots to stun if she makes the wrong move.  He hesitated for a split second, almost adding someone I deeply respect—but he stopped himself. It was true, but not something he wanted to admit aloud right now.

He kept the phaser trained on her, his heart pounding as he silently prayed they weren't being watched by the hosts who had allowed them to dock. Captain Tekin was in delicate negotiations, and the last thing they needed was a diplomatic incident caused by an unhinged officer.

He had wondered how the hell a non-security was carrying a phaser rifle. And he was shock he was being forced to being pulling his out. This was not the days when he was a smuggler when you where doing this, questioning, and well Frogger was never was like this which was shocking from the days when he was working for a smuggler gang the second time around. Leggs, she was different she was just a bitch in her own way, manipulator taking over the business.

Deputy Chief Science Officers Log - Stardate : 79374.4

The Stack has grown again. I think I will have to move the report hand in format to only accept direct submissions through the Computer soon. Looking back at how Commander Garrison organised everything, I can only stand to admire the effort that goes into keeping the labs running.

Between all the admin work, the reviews and the reports I have to write myself for the Captain, I find myself looking forward to this next project.

A couple of hours ago, we pulled something from space. An asteroid it seemed, it reflected most of our scans and even sent back mixed up signals on some frequencies.
After petitioning the captain, I got permission to have it pulled into a storage bay. When the team had a look at the data our primary sensors pulled on this thing, they got pretty excited, and I wanted to test out the new prototype we got anyway.

I had to call quite a few people and ask for some favours as well as write some serious security projections before the Daystrom Institute approved M'uras request to release the Blueprints to Discovery for a Field Test.
Supposedly it can handle many experimental steps as well as data aggregation autonomously, which would be a great help. I have to admit, it would also be nice to be the first team to assemble and operate it successfully.

Furthermore, I got quite a lot of requests from people from other duty shifts to either swap shifts or be assigned for additional hours to partake in the examination of the Asteroid. I tried to grant as many as possible, let's see if more will make their way to me before the day ends.

Overall, I feel the workload on my desk increasing. It is not unwelcome, as it gives me something to do and distracts me from the occasional flashback. Frontier day has been Months by now, but I fear the images will never fully leave me. The Counsellors say it will fade with time. For now I will focus on what I can control. My work and doing the best job I possibly can.

Mission Submission Board / Built on sand

Mission Title: Built on sand

Synopsis: The USS Ship is dispatched to Planet, a pre-warp planet that has recently experienced increasingly severe seismic and volcanic activity. Planet is home to a civilization on the cusp of industrialization, but the planet's sudden instability threatens to wipe out all life on the surface within days. Federation scientists have flagged the planet's tectonic instability as unnatural, raising concerns about interference from an unknown source. The crew of the Ship must investigate the cause, which turns out to be an ancient subterranean facility, and confront the dilemma of whether to intervene and save the civilization by using this technology—or allow the natural course of events to unfold, honouring the Federation's Prime Directive.

Starting Point: The Ship arrives in orbit around Planet, detecting seismic and volcanic activity that is accelerating in intensity. Initial scans show extreme geological instability that could lead to a planetary collapse. The crew is under pressure to find the source of the instability and assess whether intervention is necessary, while trying to maintain the Prime Directive.
End Goal:The mission concludes with the crew either using ancient alien technology to stabilize the planet's core or grappling with the consequences of allowing the planet's natural disaster to unfold, leading to the collapse of the planets civilization.

Story points that must be passed?:
- Ship arrives in orbit and has to detect and find our what is going on with the planet.
- Crew realised that the tectonic events aren't natural. A landing party is formed to investigate in person since volcanic ash in the atmosphere is interfering with sensors
- Ship has to evade volcanic material catapulted into the atmosphere and threatening to hit the ship, countermeasures have to be implemented
- After landing the Away team has to navigate the unstable planetary surface.
- Finding Survivors of the pre-warp civilization on the surface. Avoid breaching the prime directive if possible
- (possible:) Setting up and coordinating evacuation efforts from orbit. Flying out wounded Aliens.
- (Setting up a holographic space to prevent the aliens learning they are on a space ship. Treating the Aliens there.)
- Discovery of the epicentre/hotspot of tectonic activity. Upon arriving there, discovering the shielded subterranean ruins.
- Gain access to the buried facility.
- Entering the Ruins, the team has to make sense of the alien technology present there.
- Navigating the Ruins to find the control room.
- Making sense of the Alien technology to repair it or shut it down.
- Choice: Intervene to use the technology to attempt to stabilize the planet (Risky since tech is not fully understood) or shut the tech down for good (natural processes reassert themselves but large parts of the surface get destroyed and millions die)
- Safely return to the Ship

Departments: (To make sure everyone has something to do.)
- Flight: Safely navigate the shifting electromagnetic field of the planet, landing the shuttle safely through the troubled atmosphere, assist in potential evacuations
- Engineering: Modify Away Team gear to withstand the extreme environment, Repair the ship if hit by volcanic discharges, repair the alien facility, develop a way to shut the tech down
- Operations: Assist with preparing the away teams gear, navigating the ships and teams impact on the native population, setting up the holographic enclosure, maintaining communication between ship and team through the ionised atmosphere, (set up computer link between facility and ship to take over its functions remotely)
- Security and tactical: Protect the Away team from fanatic natives, disarm traps in the ruins, prevent the natives and scared fauna from entering the ruins, prevent breaches of the holo enclosure
- Medical: Inoculate the away team against potential radiation released by the ruins, treat poisoning from volcanic gases, prepare for evacuation of native population, treat injuries by the away teams and the injured aliens
- Science: analysis of seismic data, assist engineering with figuring out the ancient tech, analyse traces of the ancient aliens culture left in the ruins to understand why they interfered with the planets' tectonics, assist ops in navigating the cultural fallout from their presence on the planet

Our great teams isn't everything though. All Scientists are only as good as their Lab, and Discovery has multiple great labs. Since it is somewhat complicated to store all the specialised equipment needed to facilitate sometimes complex undertakings in a single section the Labs have been subdivided among the specialised fields.

Deck 10
Science Lab 1 : Main Lab, Bio Research, Material Labs
Science Lab 2 : Particle Science, Physics
Science Lab 3 : Behavioural Science, Chemics
Stellar Cartography

Deck 13
Cryptology Lab : Cryptology, Computer Science

Holodeck / A Day in the Lab
July 23, 2024, 11:43:10 AM

[Lt. Jg. James Ramort]
[USS Discovery | Deck 10 | Science Lab 2]

It was 8am exactly and the Lab was beginning to be more crowded than normal. Shift Change from Gamma to Alpha had already been taken care of half an hour ago but there were multiple heads from Beta around too. Today's experiment would need as many hands to help out with as possible after all.

The entire Department had been excited to get started on this for many days now. Multiple had traded shifts and assignments for the opportunity to work on it.

It all started when Discoveries Scanners picked up a strange asteroid flying through the interstellar medium. It confused their sensors and reported unknown material configurations. They had decided to petition the captain to pull it into an unused Cargo Bay and he eventually agreed.

Closer Inspections had revealed it to be composed of various metals forming strange but complex three-dimensional matrixes, catching the scanners energy beams and dispersing them through its structure, therein preventing any feedback from it.

If they could adapt these formations in other materials they might be able to boost passive shielding and cloaking abilities in all ships and probes using them. The potential was astonishing and if realised all their names would go down in History.

That is, if they could manage to replicate it.

Holodeck / Treustein Forest (Open to all)
January 15, 2024, 05:49:48 PM

[USS Discovery | Deck 6 | before Holodeck 3]

He was the first to arrive. That meant he had to walk here from his quarters alone. Walk here in full costume. Accompanied by the faint sounds of metal hitting on metal and wide garbs flowing behind him in the air. He definitely had drawn some eyes on him from other members of the crew, officers on duty and Crewman on their way to their station as the rotation to Gamma Shift was in full swing.
Since he had been assigned to Alpha Shift, this meant he still had multiple hours of time before he would have to return to his station and his uniform. Until then he was able to spend his time like he pleased, and he was thrilled to finally have a go at Discoveries advanced Holodecks.
Talking with some other people in the Mess Hall the other Day he had found he was not alone wanting to try out a new Program and so they had decided to meet in their next free shift and give it a go. He just had arrived a couple of minutes early to set up the program before the others turned up.

The large door to the Holodeck was framed in on its left side by a large console. The main Holodeck controls, he quickly used it to check that his reservation of the Holodeck had indeed been upheld and found all to his satisfaction. The Holodeck was empty and ready to receive the program. Turning to the doors, they opened automatically, revealing the silver outlines with the faintly blueish glowing projectors behind them that formed the Hologrid.

[USS Discovery | Deck 6 | Holodeck 3]

He entered the Holodeck and heard the doors close behind him, their seals engaging to cut out all the small sounds a busy ship like Discovery usually produced and that could have disrupted their illusion.

"Computer, activate Holodeck 3 and configure the following parameters. Load geographic and climatic scene corresponding to Central Europe, circa 1240, Spring. Black Forest Region, specifically the Village of RÁ¶tenbach. Arrange appropriate plants and structures. Set local time to 11:30 am. Create a fitting population for the Village, but freeze until everyone has arrived. Move scene to slightly outside the village on the main road. Create a small camp with supplies and some horses. Load narrative parameters from my personal Files: Entry Holo Import 12 Theta-Europe. Confirm when ready."

Around him the Computer began to pull object after object from the Ships Databank, resulting in a slightly disorienting scene as mountains and forests formed around him. The silver grid above his head made way for a wide open sky, with the warm rays of the sun suddenly shining on his face, slightly blinding him.

As his eyes got used to the brighter scene, he found before him a small camp with multiple tents set up as well as several small crates. Behind it 4 horses were tied to a post, some of them beginning to eat the grass before them. Further behind them, some small clouds of smoke emanated from within the trees, hinting at a clearing populated by humans.

"Set up complete. Holodeck configured to specifications."

With everything prepared, he went to one of the crates and pulled out a small dagger. He didn't want to carry a weapon through the ship, even if regulation technically allowed it, so he had set up the narrative files to include it here. With the dagger now secured to his belt, he sat down in the tent and began waiting for the others to join him.

Far of a Song Trush began to sing its song.

Just wondering, did anybody ever read the Three Body Problem / Remembrance of Earths Past saga.
It might be one of the best series of books I have read so far, and I am carefully hopeful for the Netflix adaptation later this year.

If you haven't yet read it, I can recommend it.

Holodeck / Face-to-Face with James Ramort
January 03, 2024, 12:04:59 PM

[USS Discovery | on the Way to Deck 1]

The order came unexpectedly. He had just been busy setting up a new experiment with the Subspace Transceiver when the Computer informed him that a message for him had been issued. After opening it it included only a short paragraph. He was to report to the XOs Officer at a specified time. No Information about what it was about. No Indication why he had been ordered to report to the Commander.
Shutting down the Experiments Assembly for the time being he checked his Uniform again. He didn't want to appear lacking in his first proper Conversation with the First Officer after all. His shoes had been cleaned, his Uniform was straightened and he had taken an extra moment making sure his new Rank Pip was polished and shining in the clinical bright lights of the Lab. There was very little he could do more to prepare, so he headed out.

The Corridors on the way to the Bridge were busy with people, Officers carrying Pads between Stations, Crewman on their way to the Ships vital areas to keep it running smoothly. Luckily he was the only one taking the Turbolift to Deck 1. This gave him one last second to take breath before he was arriving at Deck 1, the Ship's most central Nexus.

[USS Discovery | Deck 1]

The Door of the Lift opened with a slight hiss of its hydraulic systems revealing the familiar corridor and its Doors leading to the Bridge, Briefing Rooms and the Offices, Chief among them of course the Captains own Ready Room but adjacent his own Destination. The First Officers Office, second only to the Captains own. Taking one last second to make sure he was ready for whatever was coming his way (he still didn't know why the Commander had requested his presence but the sincerely hoped it was nothing tragic or otherwise negative), then he pressed the button next to the Door giving Indication to the Person inside the Room that a visitor was waiting outside.

Mission Submission Board / The Dimensional Dilemma
November 12, 2023, 07:27:21 PM

The Dimensional Dilemma

General Information
Mission Title: The Dimensional Dilemma
Synopsis: While carrying two rivalling diplomatic delegations, the Ship gets pulled into a space rift in which they encounter an alien civilisation that created said rift involuntarily. They have to escape the rift without succumbing to the radiation that has built up within it. After exiting, they are confronted with the Factions and have to find a way to solve the conflict without destroying them.

Starting Point: The Ship departs from Deep Space 46 after receiving Orders from Starfleet Command to head to the Plexar System to pick up the Delegations.
End Goal: The Crew has solved the Conflict peacefully, not destroyed the Rift with the Civilisation inside it and escaped it too.

Full Spoilers, in case this actually gets picked up one day

Act I
Synopsis: The Crew takes on the Delegations and shows them around the Ship.
Story: The Crew takes off from the Space Station and has to prepare the Ship for the arrival of the Delegations. After Arriving in the Plexar they pick up the Delegations from the Primary and Secondary Planets of the Systems and have to accomodate them on the Ship. After boarding they get a tour of the Ship requiring each Department to beforehand polish up their stations to the highest presentable standard.
The XO and CO take the Delegations separately from each other through separate parts of the ship. This is to avoid causing them to contact prematurely and causing conflict.
All of this has to take place while at the same time the Ship is busy with integrating a new scanning module into the Ships systems.
Departments:
- Flight: Fly to Plexar and collect the Delegations
- Engineering: Showing off their Department, working on the new Scanner
- Operations: Beaming up the Delegations, Showing off their Department
- Security and tactical: Guarind the Delegations, Showing off their Department
- Medical: Showing off their Department, inoculating the Crew against the Diseases of Plexar
- Science: Showing off their Department, working on the new Scanner

Act II
Synopsis: The Ship is pulled into a strange anomaly and needs to map it if they want to find a way out of it.
Story: While in transit through a Nebula the Ship detects a space anomaly. It begins to drag the Ship into it. Trying to not destabilise the situation, the happening has to be hidden from the Delegations putting stress on the Security Department.
All Efforts to stabilise the Ship eventually fail and it gets pulled into the anomaly damaging the Ships systems in the process. They find themselves in a space vacuole. It is hundreds of thousands of cubic kilometres large and filled with stellar material and Dust from the Nebula.
The Sensors are not fully working and the new Sensor seems to have been overloaded. The vacuole is filled with radiation that seems to have been built up inside it. The crew needs to receive some form of treatment to block them from radiation or they will get cooked alive.
They begin to map out the vacuole in an attempt to find a way out.
Departments:
- Flight: Trying to not get pulled in, then mapping the new space around them
- Engineering: Repairing the Ship after it sustained damage in the process of getting pulled in
- Operations: Assisting Engineering with repairing the Ship, keeping vital system operational
- Security and tactical: Keeping the Delegates from freaking out and/or killing each other
- Medical: Finding a way to protect the Crew from the radiation
- Science: Assisting Medical and/or FLight with their respective tasks
Act III
Synopsis: The Crew discovers a Planet. It features an alien civilization that has caused the anomaly and is trapped inside it without the means to escape it.
Story: The Ship discovers a darkened alien planet in the centre of the Anomaly. It features an alien civilization that has adapted to life here far from any star or other powersource. After some investigation they find out the aliens use oscillating warp fields to generate power. Because of the particles found in the nebula that got attracted to the warp fields that have built up in the warp fields the anomaly got created.
Repairs on the Ship begin to restore systems. An away team is sent down to the planet while the ship crew continues to map out the anomaly in the hopes of finding their entrance point to use it to leave again.
The aliens are peaceful but rely on the power systems they use to continue to power their civilization. Since there is no central heat source if they shut down power their people would freeze to death.
Some of the Security forces accompany the away team to the planet. This opens enough of an opening for the Delegations to stake some conflict on board. They assemble some weapons from their diplomatic luggage and begin to try to take vital ship sections. They believe the other Faction to be behind the situation and want to take the ship to get payback.
Departments:
- Flight: Mapping the Anomaly
- Engineering: Repairing the Ship, examining the Aliens tech
- Operations: Repairing the Ship, Assisting with keeping the Delegates out of vital areas
- Security and tactical: Protecting the Away Team, Fighting against the rioting Delegates
- Medical: helping people wounded in the riot
- Science: Assisting Engineering or Flight with their task, analysing the anomaly itself.
Act IV
Synopsis: The Crew helps the aliens either by fixing their tech or switching power sources. They thus can open an opening in the anomaly and return to normal space.
Story: On the ship the Delegates are brought back under control and the vital areas of the Ship are cleared again. The Crew thus can concentrate on fixing the aliens' tech. Its up to the Players how they want to approach this. Possibilities are, but not limited to, include: Shielding the Warp Fields, filtering the particles out of the Nebula, switching their power source, creating a means to prevent the fields from oscillating.
Adapting the same technique of the oscillating warp fields the science Department can open a rift into normal space allowing the Ship to escape.
Departments:
- Flight: Exciting the Anomaly through a small opening
- Engineering: Helping the Aliens
- Operations: Assisting Engineering, repairing any damage to the ship that occurred under the Delegations Riots
- Security and tactical: Clearing the last remnants of the Riot
- Medical: if there are more wounded treat them, calm down the Delegates
- Science: Open up the gate out of the anomaly
Act V
Synopsis: In Normal Space the rivalling Factions have taken up arms and are in a standoff in space, the Ship has to stop them before a War breaks out.
Story: As soon as they are out in normal space again the scanners detect multiple Vessels. Its ships from the Factions. They detected some hull fragments from when Ship got pulled in and assumed the other faction had destroyed it along with their respective Faction. They are just about to open fire upon each other.
All Crew quickly has to come up with a way to disable the Ships without destroying them. All Departments can pitch into this as time is off the essence and regular force could be seen as taking sides if used against any vessel.
After the Situation is resolved they take the delegates to the Site of the Conference and the Mission is officially finished.
Departments:
- Flight: Finding a way to clear the situation peacefully, Flying to Conference Site
- Engineering: Finding a way to clear the situation peacefully
- Operations: Finding a way to clear the situation peacefully
- Security and tactical: Finding a way to clear the situation peacefully
- Medical: Finding a way to clear the situation peacefully
- Science: Finding a way to clear the situation peacefully

Starting Point: The Ship (can be any movable ship, not suitable for a station) picks up a faint anomalous reading, with no other current assignment the crew decides to investigate.
End Goal: The Crew escapes the planet having rescued the last surviving aliens. Alternatively, the tawed the aliens and helped them complete the planetary terraforming process.

Story points that must be passed?:
- Finding a way into the ship
- Accessing its cargo
- Uncovering what happened onboard
- Finding the Mast'yi colony Planet
- Locate the Colony
- Find the "Monsters"
- Escape // Taw them
- (Repair the process - optionally)

Full Story
Full Spoilers, in case this actually gets picked up one day, read each Act with the awareness of being told conclusions to storypoints!
Act I
Synopsis:The Crew finds the alien vessel and decides to investigate it.
Story: The Ship picks up a faint signal while warping towards a Deep Space outpost. It has just finished its last mission and now will return to pick up new supplies and crew. The signal can not be categorised but might be a distress signal. The ship changes course to investigate. They find a ship that is badly damaged and has been adrift for decades. It is not warp capable anymore and even in its prime time never exceeded Warp 2, its engines leak beta radiation.
It houses biocontainers but the thick shielding does not allow for it to be scanned. It does not answer hails. The Crew has to board it to investigate. The ship has no shuttle bay so the shuttles need to dock to airlocks, unlock them and get in. Inside they find a dead ship, finding their way to engineering they can restore emergency power.
Onboard they can find cryopods with unknown aliens inside them. They are all dead. The biocontainers are filled with seeds and genetic stock of hundreds of lifeforms. The ship seems to have been a bio arche at some point. It turns out its warp engines burned out shortly after starting, making the ship into a generational ship. The core crew lived inside it for decades taking care of the cryopods with their fellow species members.
Some parts of the ship are still locked down, including the drive assembly and the main computer access.
Departments:
- Flight: Shuttling complex manoeuvres to dock at air locks, Projecting the drifting vessels course.
- Engineering: Restoring emergency power, unsealing air locks, investigating the ship.
- Operations: Coordinating the Operations, making sure the Ship is safe from leaking radiation, assisting with restoring the drifting vessel.
- Security and tactical: Clearing blockades on the ship, guarding the teams in a potentially hostile environment.
- Medical: Inspecting the alien lifeforms in the body, examine the dead aliens(former core crew)
- Science: Inspect the bio containers, assist medical

Act II
Synopsis:The remaining parts of the ship are unlocked, the away teams get attacked. They unlock access to the computer and can find the origin of the craft.
Story:Engineering succeeds in opening the last parts of the ship, they find a group of strangely formed robots that attack the team on sight. After they are dispatched engineering can restore power and the computer comes back online. A crypt with infants of the alien Species is found.
After some time working on the computer the crew finds the origin planet of the craft. They also unlock the logs of the dead crew. They are corrupted but tell a story of an arduous journey. They were never planning on travelling for so long but something went wrong. Then they were attacked and had no choice but to seal the engines off. They were the last hope of their species and could only hope to one day be picked up and saved. The Ship arrived too late though.
Finally they can decipher the location of the origin planet and set course towards it. They take the ship with them.
Departments:
- Flight: Deciphering the location of the origin planet, taking Ship there, assisting with engine cleanup
- Engineering: Breaking the lockdown, restoring power
- Operations: Cleaning up the leak, work out a way to tow the drifting ship
- Security and tactical: Defend and defeat the alien robots, protecting against potential further attacks (maybe in multiple ways/holdouts)
- Medical: Ensuring safety of the cryopods for transport, examining the infants in the cryopods
- Science: assisting with finding the origin planet, cultural analysis of the aliens (first part)

Act III
Synopsis: The Ship arrives at an K-Class planet to find a dead colony with lots of terraforming gear in its early stage of development. They also find more of the robots and uncover further parts of a tragic past.
Story: When the Ship arrives at the origin planet it is devoid of all higher life. The crew has to work on cutting slowly speed, stopping the drift ship in orbit and then find a way to stabilize it.
Only highly adapted life forms live on this rock. It had been classified as non-important by long range scans. Further scans reveal an abandoned colony. There they find an entire city's worth of buildings with many workshops and labs. The city is housed within a broken down pressure dome. Strangely it seems the dome seems to be reinforced to keep something inside and not something out. It is lined in strange mineral and biological readings.
When exploring the city they find more robots. It is necessary to set up a safe perimeter to continue the mission. While exploring and finding tech hinting at early attempts at large scale terraforming with fairly low tech tools they continue to find more logs. Hinting at a religious society that arrived from far away to build a home here. They tell stories of monsters and a song of the great vacuum.
After hard work they discover what looks like a shrine filled with cryopods with dead aliens. They discover that towing the adult aliens will probably kill them as well. Meanwhile the infant's pods nearly fail.
Departments:
- Flight: Searching for a geostationary spot and securing the drifting ship there, assisting operations with stabilising it
- Engineering: Examining and reverse engineering the terraforming equipment
- Operations: Stabilising the adrift ship in orbit, finding a way for the transporter to cut through the reinforced dome structure
- Security and tactical: Securing the colony, setting up a secure perimeter with all necessary tools
- Medical: Examining the dead, trying to save the infants
- Science: Cultural analysis, cryopod analysis

Act IV
Synopsis: The truth behind the colony is revealed. Hard choices have to be made.
Story: Further exploration manages to find the colony's computer centre. There the secret behind the misbehaving robots is revealed. After getting around some clever sentries and force fields they can disable the primary program and examine it. It is revealed to be a central part of the Terraforming process. The Aliens were trying to terraform the planet and used the robots to clean it off all present lifeforms. It turns out they weren't trying to terraform the planet to M Class status but rather Class Y.
The program malfunctioned because it was set to restore life functions. It recognised the primitive lifeforms on the planet as valid life and tried to save them from terraforming. To that end it began turning against the aliens. At this point they sent off the ship that brought them there, carrying their colonies' hope (not knowing that some robots got onboard). They then lost control of the computer and thus access to most of their equipment. First the robots cut off their ability to use the terraforming equipment, then they trapped them in the colony causing the inherent cultural parts of the alien culture to adopt them causing them to be seen as mythical monsters that followed them here.
The Robots eventually began to reclaim the colony making it necessary for all aliens to retreat to the central shelter. From the last parts they finished their cryopods to form their tomb and await eternity in silence, hoping for their lost cousins in space to return one day.
Meanwhile in orbit the drifting ship is destabilising. The proximity of multiple sources of gravity nearby tears the ship apart. The crew in orbit has to rush to secure as many cryopods as possible. Focus has to be laid on the infants' pods.
Departments:
- Flight: Carrying out a rescue operation in orbit
- Engineering: Either assisting in orbit or working on the colony computer
- Operations: Carrying out the rescue in orbit, preparing the Ship to keep the cryopods stable
- Security and tactical: Disable the security of the Computer Center, assisting science in uncovering the colonies truth
- Medical: Saving the Infants, preparing to thaw them
- Science: figuring out what happened at the colony

Act V
Synopsis: A choice has to be made. Either life is taken or given back anew.
Story: The ship found adrift is falling down the atmosphere. The infants' cryopods are saved on Ship. Down on the colony it seems that the robots have been brought under control. Engineering thinks they can repair the terraforming equipment and finish the process, with a little help from Ship from orbit the planet can be transformed into an Y Class world.
The Pods could be thawed and under the care of the robots a new generation of aliens could rise on the planet. Alternatively the last wishes of the colony's inhabitants could be honored and their tomb left undisturbed. It will be up to Command Staff to gather their Staff and  make a decision. They will instruct the crew for the final act.
All departments will either work towards restoring the terraforming equipment, tawing the infants and configuring the robots to take care of them. Some might argue it's a moral obligation to return them to life but the Prime Directive would be violated.
Or they could break down the Terraforming Gear, take the infants to the nearest Starbase for them to maybe one day be returned to their species, if they are ever to be found. Will they be damned to the long sleep, possibly without waking, but respecting the Prime Directive.

Note:
This mission is meant to drive secondary engagement besides SIMM itself with the possibility of holding a poll(maybe in the Discord), the end will enable character growth as each PC will have to grapple with the consequences of what happened in the colony and their part in a possible solution.
It also opens the great possibility of Players proposing alternative solutions this adventure might not include in this sketch. These can be followed if chosen so by the Command Staff. This enables an element of surprise making for increased participation fun also for Command Staff since there is a possibility for an unknown ending still valid within the restrictions of the game.
