=/\= Command, we've got a confused crewman over here... =/\=

Guess I couldn't stay away forever.

Honestly, you guys are too awesome.

Who's in need of a Scottish crewman; either engineering or sec/tact - whichever, though leaning goes for sec/tact. Possibly the Disco if able?

Hey folks, I know it's only been a short while since I've been reactivated and returned. Unfortunately, i am finding myself struggling and I know it's unfair on the other posters on here for me to keep them waiting. I hope eventually, I will be a more consistent player here as you are a great community of people (friendly and fun to hang around in the Discord with).

Many apologies,
Lennox

Lennox couldn't sleep, there was a lot of things on his mind and certainly there wasn't enough hours in the day/night of space to think them through. For a long while, Len had tried heading down to the observation deck during his time off of shifts, but even that had lost most of its 'cool.'

The Scot had decided to head on down to the Holodeck this time, the doors opening to the familiar scene as he plugged in a couple of numbers. There was nothing in particular that he was thinking of - anything to keep his mind wandering off too far and keep him awake. The space around him shifted into one that seemed familiar; at least it started out as one but it shifted at the last minute.

One that seemingly resembled an ancient ruin, scriptures running up and down the entrance of the ruins. "Well, 'his is goin' te be an adventure."

[Mess hall]

Lennox was awake, more than usual as he thought about life in Starfleet, life if he was not part of it and what dynamic would have changed if his siblings were part of it. The Scotsman slowly moved himself out of his bunk, putting his uniform on as he wandered down to the mess hall.

With the latest murder case open and shut, there was a little more time to think. He took a seat, close to the wall, with his back facing the doorway. Lennox sat down, his head in his hands and heaved a loud sigh. He missed his son, and desperately missed his wife. Grief had been a stage that was waiting for him for too long, haven't properly been able to grieve for their loss as he got lost in his own sorrow.

His hand scratched at his beard, tears rolling down his cheeks. He could have done this in his dorm but the mess hall seemed a better place.

Nothing could help relieve the pain of a husband who lost his wife and of a father who lost everything precious to him.

[Deck 14 - Firing range]

Lennox had been recently transferred to the USS Discovery, his first course of action was to get along with those that he had been transferred with and those that he needed to get along with for the ship to continue to sail smoothly through space. But, there was something that interested him more, located on deck 14 and it was the firing range.

He was not someone who particularly wanted to end up having to shoot to kill but there had been a significant part of his life where it had been deemed necessary for the safety of mankind and those aliens who were not entirely hostile with their race. Today was the day he was going to start his crew phaser competency test. Lennox lined several of them up on the firing range, one already disassembled, needing to check that they were very much in working order.

It was the fact that he needed to be in the know of how the phasers worked, how they operated and what would have to be done if it had gone south. An hour had passed since his last visual sweep of the weapon lockers, he needed to test them out.

Lennox began reassembling the phaser, checking it over several times to make sure it had been properly reassembled before aiming it at the target, putting first pressure on the trigger before firing.

Everything seemed to be doing alright.

[Initializing...rebooting...]

Lennox gave a long sigh of exasperation as he waited for the log to load. It had been suffering from a couple of technical issues, but not enough to send him into a frenzy of slurs and curses. He had noticed a couple of the crew had set up these logs and he wanted to know more about it, learn why they did these personal logs.

[Log begin]

"Ah, finally, the bloody t'ing decides te bloody load up," Lennox pauses for a moment as he glances over his shoulder. "I've been reassigned, ye could call it, from te Starbase te the USS Discovery. I've finally got a proper ship. Wonder w'at me siblin's and me family t'ink of t'is."

There's a silence for a moment before Lennox could be heard taking in a breath before exhaling.

"Ye don't understand te w'at level o' excitement I'm at. I've been readin' up on the Discovery and well, bein' my first few days, I've check out w'at firepower the ship's got. Ah, t'is is w'ere it gets bloody excitin'! Akira class, with a whoppin' big cargo space of 47,254 metric tons. Ye probably do know what I'm gettin' to. Yes, the big guns. Torpedo launchers, firin' 5 per launcher, quantum, photon and transphasic torps too."

Another silence.

"Not goin' te lie, t'is a feckin' good ship. But fer now, I'm goin' te have a look around, get te know people and then, well, we'll see."

[Log End]

[Deck 226 - Library]

Having been off the drink for a few - several days - Lennox was not quite sure what to do, having not yet wandered the entire premises, but he had heard the library was located on deck 226 and there was a couple of things that he needed to read up on beforehand.

Columbus had an impressive array of weaponry at it's side if anything was to 'hit the fan' with 50 burst-fire photon torpedo tubes and 30 quantum tubes, MK II phaser canons and--

It seemed he had gotten lost in his own thoughts, as his head made contact with the door of the library. Lennox took a couple steps backwards, glaring heavily at the door before looking around, making sure no one else saw it. He walked into the library and took a seat, massaging the spot in which his forehead had made contact with a solid object.

"That's gonna 'urt tomorrow, 'ell sake." He muttered.

Character Bio:

Lennox Ainsley was born to Yates and Murcia Ainsley in the Highlands of Scotland on 21st May, 2351 as a twin to Leonard Ainsley and as a younger brother to Willow. It is argued that he was the first to arrive, and then his brother, though, his mother remains to not telling them. His father was a man from the Star fleet, and his mother was a civilian nurse. They had met one evening at a bar and it seemed to kick off from there.

It was a difficult relation to maintain, with his father away for long periods of time whilst they remained, studying hard and having fun. Lennox was the sort of lad who ran off with the village boys, not to return till sun down, the one often in most trouble for his scrapes and injuries sustained from his 'adventures.'

Lennox and his siblings were almost polar opposites of one another. Whilst all of them enjoyed the time they shared learning about universes and other life forms that existed, Leonard had curved away from the idea of joining up to the Starfleet and Willow had preferred to take a literary route. Lennox had preferred to lead an active life, seeking out the thrill of the chase and often enjoyed mechanics. This had lead him to working on several civilian ships as a low-down engineer, repairing heating and water pipes.

When he was twenty, he had received word that his father had been killed in action. Lennox was upset but due to the hole in the relationship his father and family had, mourning did not happen for the children but it occurred for their mother. It had made him rethink his course of life, and the place he was currently at. Lennox knew he would have to aim higher, applying into the military as a combat engineer.

Lennox had been more of a soldier as he moved from posting to posting, in which he had met a woman by the name of Alvina Cortez, the future mother to his son, John Ainsley-Cortez. Lennox had only been married for three years when pirates and scavengers had killed Alvina, promptly killing his child. This was still not enough to induce his rage, Lennox had turned to drinking. His sister had attempted to kick him back into reality, finding him a job in a shabby mechanic store but several months had offered him a new possibility, a possibility that had been overshadowed by the trauma he had faced.

Starfleet.

It would turn out that it was anything but an easy route, or life. He had made friends, lost friends. Tried to get off the alcohol (somewhat to mixed results), burned himself with a phaser but it was all part of the learning curve. His assignment with the USS Discovery would soon become his family, though it was anything but good times. In an away mission in 2395, Lennox had been witnessed a bioweapon being unleashed to devastating results. Though he would remain on the Discovery for another year, he had transferred back to the SB Columbus after going back to recap over his skills at engineering; as their engineering crewman.

It was here where he had been witness to a tribble outbreak (an experience he wasn't going to quickly forget), tried to help a Tholian repair the Spider Ship and to many other things that had gone on the Starbase, so much as going to try visiting the base's therapist. Even that wasn't enough - Lennox had decided that he wanted to try and step away for the time being, to unsuccessfully reconnect with his family who were all over the place.

Sample post:

"Ainsley, gettup, need you down there."

Lennox pulled himself from out underneath the mainframe compartment of an engine housing, his face covered in a thin layer of grime, as he looked up at his boss with a raised eyebrow. His boss was several years younger than he was, gaunt and wore glasses but his frame was not helped by the fact he was a dedicated chain smoker.

"Down where?"

"Don't act all smart with me, you know where."

"Ye think I can read yer mind?" Lennox kept his gaze on his boss, his Scottish accent flourishing. A small sneer on his lips as he turned and walked towards the entrance. "Don't count yer blessin's if yer te see me again."

He was heading to a bar, where a good drink waited and to where the recruiter had organised their meet. Lennox hated being a low-town mechanic for someone who hardly appreciated the price of milk. His skills were rotting away under a pair of overalls quicker than a ship could warp. It was more his sister's idea and something lingering in the back of his mind.

One word.

Starfleet.

Was this really what he wanted? Lennox couldn't afford to think as such, rather because the meeting was in ten minutes.

Additional information: Nope.
