Character Bio:
Gidjael actually refers to a duo of adopted siblings who regard themselves as an inseparable duo, almost twins, given they were born on the same week. Gid Sherem was a Bajoran boy born to Akish Abish, a Bajoran woman enslaved on Terok Nor as a pleasure woman to Gul Sherem, an attaché of the Obsidian Order assigned to Terok Nor to monitor the prefect of Bajor, Gul Dukat. Gid is a pure Bajoran, still in the womb when his mother was brought to Terok Nor; his father, Akish Com, a member of the Bajoran Resistance, was executed shortly after her abduction, but given one last moment of humiliation to see his wife taken as a pleasure woman.

Jael Sherem was born on Cardassia Prime to Gul Sherem's wife, Rahab, one of two actual twins that Rahab gave birth to. But one of the twins died in birth. Recalling his pleasure woman giving birth to a boy earlier in the week, Gul Sherem arranged to have the woman and the baby sent to Cardassia, the Bajoran baby to replace the Cardassian twin who died. He even rearranged his name so that he would sound Cardassian, and so Akish Gid became Gid Sherem. The timing was ironic, for within a fortnight, the Cardassians would withdraw from Bajor and leave Terok Nor for the Bajorans.

Even more ironic was the fact that Rahab and Abish got along better than Rahab got along her husband. Abish wound up the Cardassian career ladder from pleasure woman to house servant, and took care of Rahab's girl at the same time as her little Gid. As Gul Sherem was constantly away on Obsidian Order business, or on business with Gul Dukat, Rahab never got along with her husband, particularly when she was stationed on the homeworld, in charge of Central Command Maintenance, which is why she was a Gul as well. As they grew closer, Rahab and Abish bided their time for revenge against Nehor Sherem.

When the Obsidian Order was destroyed in orbit of the original Founder homeworld in the Omarian Nebulan, Gul Sherem's own prominence was getting less weight. When Gul Dukat fell from prominence at the reveal of his half-Bajoran daughter, Abish and Rahab collaborated on a "me, too" accusation and had Nehor Sherem disposed, dropped from Gul to Glinn and wound up serving on the same cargo ship as Gul Dukat. For a brief time, Rahab enjoyed her freedom, particularly now that she rose to political prominence among the new Detapa Council. Abish herself never became bothered on Cardassia, but she later succumbed to a fatal disease months after Gul Sherem was deposed.

Gul Sherem later returned in a prominent manner when he joined Gul Dukat in commandeering a Klingon Bird-of-Prey, and later negotiating Cardassia's joining with the Dominion. Finding that the Detapa Council was unwilling to do anything about Klingon intrusions, Sherem agreed with Dukat, and their gradual disgruntlement led Sherem to agree with Dukat to join forces with the Dominion. For his support, when Gul Dukat took control of Cardassia, he appointed Sherem a legate and put him in charge of the replacement of the Obsidian Order, the Cardassian Intelligence Bureau. When Rahab discovered what Dukat had done, and Nehor Sherem with him, Rahab resigned in protest and defected to Federation space, with her two children, one of them the adopted Bajoran boy, in tow. And she wasn't the only one; a great many Cardassians didn't like the idea of merging with the Dominion, no matter how willing they were to dominate the Alpha Quadrant. Others hated Dukat enough to resign in protest with Rahab. Not everybody made it out of Cardassian space, let alone to Federation space, when they defected, but Rahab was among the fortunate ones, and a little smarter; she stole the cloaking device from Dukat's Bird-of-Prey and had it outfitted on the Hideki-class attack ship she used to command before being assigned to a home garrison, and, under cloak and thanks to her old flying maneuvers, escaped Cardassian space.

Since defecting, Rahab has lived on Earth, in the arid sands around Timbuktu, as Cardassians enjoyed heat and aridity. There, Gid and Jael grew and matured, missing the war with the Dominion, and their old people, by a great deal. Both transpired to be highly intelligent. Gid proved to have prominent engineering skills; taken by the designs of old human inventor Rube Goldberg, he would decorate their home with many different contraptions. Jael was the scientist, particularly chemistry, and their combined efforts made varied results. Some good, others chaotic.

With his engineering talents, Gid expressed an interest to join Starfleet. At first assuming his sister would be missed, he was surprised to find she expressed interest as well, as they couldn't be separated. But it was a surprise, as there weren't many Cardassians in Starfleet, but Gid resolved to support his sister in every way possible; after all, while he looked Bajoran, he was a Cardassian by nationality, and he even thought like a Cardassian.

Gid awoke to the explosion made from the bedroom next door. Taking care not to step on his "toys," for so to describe the gadgetry decorating his room, inspired by the human of the past Rube Goldberg, Gid scrambled to the room to find Jael covered in soot, along with half her room.

"Really, Jael?" he said, not resisting a smile.

"Shut up, Gid," retorted Jael cheekily, also smiling.

"Seriously, all this from one drop of liquid Trellium?" asked Gid as he inspected the remains of Jael's latest chemistry experiment. "You're lucky you didn't take the whole house with you."

"For your information, Gid, it was a molecule," said Jael in response. "A whole blasted molecule."

"Yeah, after you flaked off from just one chunk," said Gid. "What were you trying to do with it, anyway? Trying to get it to set? You know one chunk won't be missed if Mother finds out you've snuck a piece home."

Jael was about to respond when their mother called for dinner...and to ask what that noise was.

"Better get cleaned up," said Gid, spared from a potential retort. "And we'll clean your room later, Jael. I have more things to worry about than a defect capacitor."
