Messages - Jebediah Schrock

#1
LOA Archives / Reserve Request: Jeb Schrock.
February 17, 2019, 12:32:44 PM

Character: Jebediah Schrock
SIMM affected: Katra

I've tried over the last few months, I really have. The Katra crew tells compelling stories, but I just can't seem to get into the character of Jeb. I'd like to reserve him, while I try to think of a more compelling Alt to make in his place and send back to Katra station.

Note: I will continue to keep Judy around on SBC as usual. This only applies to Jeb.

=/\= Kosst Holana to Katra Station, be advised we stand ready to take on any assets or personnel we can manage if evacuation is required. =/\=

[Jeb's Office]

=/\= "Thank you for the offer. Hopefully we won't have to take you up on it," =/\= Jeb answered. =/\= "Katra Station Out." =/\=

This was going to be a stressful, difficult period. The station as a whole was lucky to have helpful freighter captains around, to supplement the usual contingent of Ferengi.

Jeb had been briefed on the Dosi approach. He found it rather unnerving to have a power known for aggression heading their way.

Many of the freighter captains did too, which left Jeb to deal with them. With Ops personnel needing to be focused on the difficult task at hand, he did this from his office.

=/\= Kosst Holana to Katra Station, requesting clearance to detach the tether and sit on standby to warp away. =/\=

=/\= "Kosst Holana. Lt. Schrock here. Clearance to detach granted. We'll clear you to warp when we can give you a departure vector, but you may begin preparations," =/\= he answered.

"Very well," Arrun nodded and tapped at his PADD with a calming breath. "Thank you for your assistance Lieutenant. My intention is to embark upon my ship and keep myself and ship ready. My crew have, admittedly, a certain level of wariness that I encourage, especially my Gun-" He stopped himself short of the colloquial term he had picked up and used instead a more Starfleet-friendly one. "-I mean, my Security Officer. Until the situation with this Cruiser is resolved, we will obey Station Instructions, however I reserve the right to evacuate my ship and crew from the area should things escalate. If there is nothing else, I believe this meeting is concluded, Lieutenant."

Arrun felt bad putting pressure on the young officer, whom likely didn't know as much as Arrun did or indeed what Station Command knew. The Bajoran Captain did his best to keep the yellow edge out of his voice, but he knew he was tense and ready for danger now and had to accept that. There was no hiding his agitation, but he certainly didn't want to make the junior officer had done him wrong. Though, how much that came across Arrun wasn't sure of in his current state of mind.

[Jeb's Office - Deck 3]

Jeb nodded, grimacing slightly as he realized that he had definitely let this captain down. However, he still had to follow procedure.

"I'll send an engineer your way, Captain. Thanks for coming by," he concluded, before sitting right back down.

Jeb waited for the Bajoran to leave, all the while eyeing his paperwork.

"Well Lieutenant," Arrun said quietly as he measured his words. "My ship has informed me that this station has a cruiser at high warp incoming." He looked about and then back to the Operations Officer. "I have noted no alert status, but was curious if you had any further advisory or were otherwise aware of this guest of yours?"

[Jeb's Office - Deck 3]

Jeb's expression turned to one of concern. It certainly wasn't standard protocol to inform the station of all unscheduled movements, but that was meant to prevent panic. More often than not, any approaching threat could be dispatched by the Kir'Shara or another nearby ship, without ever turning into a problem.

"I don't know," he admitted. "That might well be a Starfleet ship movement that's being kept quiet for whatever reason."

Jeb waited to see if this was enough.

The Bajoran freighter Captain nodded his head as he briefly looked over and examined the blanket nearby, thinking on the familiar patterns; some Terran culture he could not quite recall. "Hm," He looked back to the Lieutenant as spoke on.  "Now that sort of information I could definitely use. Could you please send me the star charts Lieutenant? I've read a little about these Numanti, or what little was written about them in the general Federation database. I don't recall having encountered them before...the last time I was out here." He tapped at his PADD and had it briefly broadcast it was ready to receive any files sent from nearby devices. "Have you met any personally?"

As he spoke, his PADD chimed at him that a message was being sent to him from his ship. He looked at the PADD and read the texted report from his Gunner.

Sensors showing a lot of activity on the station, decided to look around myself to see what was wrong. Sensors are showing a Cruiser heading toward the station, fast. Recommend you get back to the ship.

Standby, I have a Fleet here, I'll ask what's going on. In the meanwhile, tell Carnel to get the ship ready to go.

Arrun Dihsar looked up from his PADD and silently examined the eyes and body language of the young Lieutenant. The Bajoran wondered how much the junior officer knew of this cruiser. With no klaxxon, Arrun was sure it was not a Red Alert situation yet; however, with an outpost with so many civilians aboard and free traders, he assumed Station Command was not in the habit of calling for Yellow Alert as often as a Starship would. Arrun couldn't be sure, but it was entirely possible the Lieutenant didn't want him to worry. It was hard to tell, all the Bajoran could do was listen and observe.

[Jeb's Office - Deck 3]

Jeb was oblivious of events at Ops, but he was aware that Arrun seemed concerned.

He decided to go forward for the moment.

"Yes. I can send them to your ship as soon as we're done here," he answered.

However, the newly-minted Lieutenant now went back on his initial decision.
"Is something the matter, Captain?" he asked.

You ever wonder if those little TAGs you can tear off furniture should be mailed BACK to the manufacturer?

You are too much, Radish!

"True Dominion? I'm surprised they are still so active. But I'll have a look up on them." He tapped his PADD and noted to read up on latest reports of thier movements. "I ran into a small-time pirate on the way here actually, about...3 days ago. Never got beyound posturing, lots of threats and innuendo. But my ship is decently armed, plus my gunner decided a warning shot just off thier bridge was a way to remind them. I have the incident report on my PADD if you want a copy, though I was gonna head to the security office to go over it as well." Arrun spoke of the encounter with ease; his ship had been an equal match and he was in Federation patrolled space: pirates always disliked fair fights and a long fight would just draw Starfleet firepower. "As for the Karemma: I'll pass. I have no desire to have any Ferangi entanglements. Reformed or not."

[Jeb's Office - Deck 3]

Jeb stroked his chin, with the little peach fuzz on it.
"Those don't sound like the pirates we met. Ours were more violent, more forceful, and actually pretty powerful."

Then, he answered on the remark on the Karemma.
"We've actually just received some new star charts from a local species, the Numati. They show some sectors that even the Ferengi have yet to reach. Exciting opportunities, I think."
It was unequivocally beneficial for the Federation to have its people opening new links like that before the various Ferengi DaiMons did. This guy seemed like a good, trustworthy representative of the Alpha Quadrant.

Arrun couldn't hide his disappointment that his silver lining was off the mark. He definitely needed to see the Medical facilities after this if he was jumping at shadows again. "Forward any engineers you can spare to my Ship's Engineer Gaal Mayb; he knows what I need done and to what specs I expect. Of course, if they want to do any major overhauls I'll be available to sign off on it." He said after rolling his shoulders a bit and stepping away from the chair a bit. "Apologies for coming on strong Lieutenant. I've been...space borne for a bit longer than I would have liked." He said to glaze over his actual issue. "Speaking of competition, are there any travel advisories for the region? Places to avoid or any trade embargo areas? Stations that are just waiting to peel my poor ship for parts?" Arrun hated to think badly of non-Federation stations, but he had heard a story or two both in and out of uniform about poor Captains that got overwhelmed.

[Jeb's Office - Deck 3]

"Well, Captain, there's the True Dominion. There's a notice out on where they're active right now, but I don't recall which sectors off the top of my head. In addition to that, there was pirate activity back in November, not too far from us, but I haven't seen much of them recently."

That just about summed it up.
"On that note, I will tell you that a lot of our trade these days is from Karemma merchants. Those routes are well-developed, and heavily competed on."
