Messages - Robert Fisher

I wouldn't say I'm the best when it comes to graphics, but I enjoy messing around in Photoshop, so if I can be of help, I volunteer.

Here is an example (It's not perfect because I'm on my third bottle of wine, but I'm usually more polished in my work when sober):

[Lieutenant Commander Nira Said | Bink's Suite | Near the Thieves Quarter | Fereng | Ferenginar]

LATER...
Nira was the last to arrive when the team arrived back. She took off her helmet as she joined Mister Fisher when he collected her, at least when his ride was away from prying eyes as much as possible. It was almost time to meet Dokan.

She looked at Nurse Davies, she having been put in charge of setting up the medical scanner. Then around at the rest of her team.

"Okay, everybody," she said. "We're expecting a very special guest today. Be sure to keep concealed, but be close at hand just in case. Phasers on strong stun."

Bink shifted a little. He wanted to explain to Nira that phasers won't likely work on Dokan, not if he could shrug off four disruptor bolts from what he was informed, but he had no time to inform her thus; Nira was cutting it close in coming back and Dokan could be here at any moment.

"Nurse Davies?" she said. "How is the medical scanner working?"

[Ensign Robert Fisher | Bink's Suite | Near the Thieves Quarter | Fereng | Ferenginar]

The Thieve's Quarter and surrounding areas offered more of the same; congestion, humidity, and a potent mix of odours that would definitely take days to clear from his pores. He'd been planetside for only a short period by the time he set out to pick up the Lieutenant, but Robert was certain that this would be his one and only visit to the Ferengi homeworld.

He waited as patiently and inconspicuously as he could for Nira to appear, a sense of quiet relief washing over him as they returned to the suite without pursuit. Identifying Dohan seemed straightforward enough; cornering the individual on the other hand seemed like a risk""no doubt in part due to his unfamiliarity with their target's reputation.

With his earlier transgression still fresh in his mind, Robert checked the settings on his concealed phaser twice and then another once for luck, ensuring that he could easily access the weapon if or when needed.

[Shuttle Scobee / Ferenginar - Fereng >>> Hotel Suite]

After having been led to the hotel, Chloe grew even more miffed at Lahr not being present.  Where the hell was the Andorian?

From what she'd been told he'd asked for her specifically - with his damned medical scanner.... yet here she was and he was no where to be found!

The nurse looked to Robert for a moment somewhat expectantly - as if he might know what to do, even thought in actuality, rank-wise, Chloe was in charge. She just needed to decide what to do. But in situations that weren't medical, Chloe was rather lost.

"I don't know if its better to stay put and wait for him to finally deign to show up, or to use the scanner to try and track him down.   What do you think, Robert? "

[Lieutenant Commander Nira Said | Bink's Suite | Outside the Thieves Quarter | Fereng | Ferenginar]

Nira had just gotten back with Lahr and Zhuk and found Nurse Davies and Mister Fisher there with Bink. Bink may have been a good host, but Nira was sure she felt the annoyance vibes heated from the end of the hallway.

"Nurse. Mister Fisher," said Nira. "Glad you could make it here. I suppose you're wondering what's going on..."

And she explained to Chloe and Fisher about what is going on, about the defector Dokan and the increased assassin presence and Dokan's elusiveness and how unusual Dokan is, that he may not be who he appears to be...

"...if you were informed to bring down a medical scanner," said Nira, "we're hoping that we'll be able to figure out what Dokan really is, and perhaps we'll be able to track him better than the Ferengi. On that note...did one of your people contact Dokan?" asked Nira, turning to Bink.

"Certainly," he answered. "He was passing through the Latinum Lair, but one of my people managed to reach him before he left the building. He's agreed to meet you here, a small meal and discussion. He'll be available tomorrow after the first round of the auction."

"The auction is starting tomorrow?" asked Nira in surprise.

"Yes, Liquidator Bock has sent word to me that the Romulan delegates will be arriving tomorrow. We've got a good deal of non-Romulans here already - and outside the Thieves Quarter - and three other Federation ships will be here as well."

"Talk about timing," said Nira. "I believe we've got a potential contact, somebody who the assassins will know..."

"Yes, we know about Deej Cloten," said Bink.

"You really are all ears," said Nira, impressed.

"Eyes and ears," said Bink. "In fact, the hyoomaan phrase, 'walls have ears,' it's one hyoomaan phrase that's very universal. That Antican has many things in common with one of our best ambassadors, Quark. He's business-based, but he's bloodthirsty, particularly when it comes to Selay. Something this big would naturally lure him back from the Gamma Quadrant."

Nira nodded. "Well, it seems he's in the business of arms dealing."

"Of course he is," Bink retorted. "He trades and smuggles and deals with anything...except slaves, of course. Arms are easy for him. Only Gaila can rival him. The only reason Cloten doesn't own his own moon is because me blows fortunes faster than he can make them, mostly in bribes, means to guarantee silence."

"He deal frequently with anybody?"

"Sure," he said. "He's answerable to anybody who pays or intimidates hi...."

He suddenly stopped and stared incredulously at Nira. "You don't mean you know how to work him?"

"Cloten knows me from when I was on an undercover assignment of my own on Risa," explained Nira. "In any case, he'll be listening in frequently. In fact, he may even have a new merchant to deal with, a new arms source, and we were even invited by one of the assassins to meet..."

She immediately looked over at Lahr and said, "Lahr, did you pick up anything about that? I mean, you were separate from the group for a while..."

"Well, it's, again, not a good idea for both of you to be there," said Bink. "You and the Caitian...but I might be able to arrange something to disguise you in particular, Commander."

Nira nodded, but she leaned more to Lahr in an inquisitive way to hear him out...

[Shuttle Scobee / Ferenginar - Fereng >>> Hotel Suite]

"They've gone out of their way to escort us here, I'm certain he'd show. Unless something went wrong." Robert mused, hoping that the absence was simply a matter of tardiness. The room in which they now stood offered no immediate clues, but in any case, he surveyed their surroundings with the hopes that a hasty exit would be possible if needed.

They'd hung around for barely a moment before the others joined, the relief washing over him not entirely surprising; safety in numbers. There was no telling what, if anything, could go wrong.

"Sounds like we got here just in time," Robert commented with a raised brow, his stance relaxing just slightly. Whatever this auction entailed, it was clearly happening sooner than realised and for the inexperienced ensign, the whole mission sounded far more complex than anticipated.

[Shuttle Scobee >>>> Ferenginar - Fereng]

Chloe frowned when the flight officer claimed comms were not possible.  The frown deepened more when she heard the reason for her being sent to this muggy, capitalistic hellhole.   "This is all because he's hungover!?"  WTF?

It took the nurse a moment be able to speak calmly. "Depends, the range for somethings is up to a kilometer but that's pushing it.  It's only up close that it can get the fine details." she answered his question before posing a couple of her own.  "So why can't we call him?  He called up to us, did he not?" she reasoned.  Being in Sickbay, the nurse was not kept informed as to current goings on, and no one had briefed so she had no clue that the Away team were undercover.

It was at about this time that a Ferengi approached the shuttle.  Chloe peered through the viewscreen towards the small hunched figure.  "Seems we have a welcoming party.  Maybe Lahr sent him..."  She sighed and gathered up the medical scanner and exited the shuttle to approach the Ferengi.

"So where's my hangover patient?"

[Shuttle Scobee >>>> Ferenginar - Fereng]

Academy training provided no relevant explanation for the break in protocol; any information garnered during an away mission should be reported to the CO, as far as Robert had been taught.

"Well, despite the encrypted channel, I'm sure any information was coded. The Captain doesn't seem to be the type to forgive his crew for being inebriated during an away mission or abandoning standard protocols."

The Chief could easily have taken the opportunity to indulge himself for all Robert knew, but speculation in addition to his recent failure on the bridge would only dampen his reputation.

"They've been sent to escort us," he added, certain that the approaching party would consist of more than a single Ferengi if he and Chloe were considered a danger. "otherwise we'd be surrounded."

NPC Lt JG Chloe Davies
[USS Challenger-A - Sickbay >>>>  Shuttle Scobee >>>> Ferenginar - Fereng]

Chloe had been doing the inventory restock of the Sickbay nurse's station when she received a call to bring a medical scanner down to the planet to a place called the 'Thieves Quarter'.   She was informed that she was to go in plain clothes and that she'd be going down by shuttle.   The nurse, baffled, managed to not question her orders other than to ask who made the request.   It wasn't a surprise at all to learn that the request came from Lahr.

In addition to the medical scanner, the nurse packed a discreet med kit including several vials of anesthetic - figuring that in a place called the 'Thieves Quarter' she might need some protection.

In the shuttle bay, she met up with a pilot that she had never seen before.   She introduced herself.

"Hi.  You must be a new arrival?  I'm Chloe Davies." Since she was in plain clothes, she didn't think to offer her rank.

The flight down to the planet was smooth and Chloe would have appreciated the view except Ferenginar was not a very hospitable destination.
Chloe looked over to the flight officer.   She looked over the empty landing pad.  No Lahr in sight.   "So do you know where we're going? she asked.   "All I was told was to bring a medical scanner to Lahr in the Thieves Quarter."
[Shuttle bay >>>> Ferenginar - Fereng]

"Ensign Robert Fisher, I transferred just a few days ago." Chloe Davies. From the limited mission briefing, he understood she was medical; beyond that, he knew nothing of his fellow officer. With the requested equipment stowed, the short journey concluded uneventfully.

Fereng's humidity infiltrated the shuttle's interior, a stifling reminder that his first visit to the strange world was also his first away mission, during which his performance would undoubtedly be intensely scrutinised.

"Not exactly. I downloaded scans of the area from the shuttle's sensor array. Comms are obviously out of the question. We could use the shuttle to scan for his biosignature, but that might draw too much attention. I don't suppose that medical scanner happens to have a decent range? The mention of feeling ill or hungover during his initial hail didn't sound specific enough to triangulate the Chief's position."

[Shuttlebay Two --> Shuttle Scobee]

As promised, by the time Fisher and Davies arrived in civilian garb, the Scobee had been repainted and the transponder modified to indicate it was now the Graceful Swan. After a quick pre-flight, Fisher received permission to depart and the shuttle was on its way down to the planet.

[Shuttle Scobee]

With the exception of a few cursory acknowledgements, Robert took control of the pilot's station with every ounce of vigilance he could muster, determined not to make the same mistake twice.

"We're coming up on the provided coordinates, ninety seconds until touchdown."

His first away mission. The young ensign silently pleaded for a swift and positive outcome.

[Bridge - USS Challenger]

When Lahr's message came through, Lieutenant Davenport at Tactical opened the channel which made Commander CatalÁ¡n arch an eyebrow in surprise in it's lack of proper protocols. However, knowing the Andorian was undercover, he limited his response to a short reply.

"Message understood. Package is on the way."

Davenport closed the channel and CatalÁ¡n, after a moment of thought said.

"Ensign Fisher. One of the first lessons a member of Starfleet must learn is to never become complacent. The unexpected is our business. I want you to meet Lieutenant Davies in shuttle bay two. Take the Scobee. Engineering will have her reconfigured to look like a civilian ship by the time you get there. Move out."

[Bridge - USS Challenger]

Embarrassment washed over the rookie ensign, his attention had been too focused on memorising the Helm's particular layout to notice the sensor ping amongst the myriad of other notifications. He did his best to disguise the flush of crimson on his face as he stood,

"Yes, sir. I'll be mindful in future."

For someone so hung up on perfection, he felt winded by the reprimand but composed himself as best he could as he swiftly exited the bridge.

[Bridge - USS Challenger]

Espada stood and stretched when his replacement arrived. He paused to log out of the helm console before updating the eager Ensign.

"Okay Ensign. Get settled in. We are currently in a parking orbit, 10,000 kilometers above the Tower of Commerce. Nothing is happening or planned to happen for the next four hours, so do try not to run into anything. You so much as scratch the paint and the Captain will have you scrubbing the hull with a toothbrush until you retire. Lieutenant Ozoim will relieve you at 1800. Good luck. Oh yeah, don't forget to breathe."

Espada then exited the bridge making no effort to hide his smirk as the doors closed.

[Bridge - USS Challenger]

Not exactly a challenge, but the thrill of being in control of the vessel was more than enough to disguise the menial task for what it was. His own strive for perfection demanded that he put every ounce of professionalism into his duties, not a single button would flash on those multiple panels without him noticing.

"Aye, Sir."

Fisher offered a small nod in acknowledgement with all the precision of a newly graduated cadet but allowed his posture to relax just ever so slightly.

"Thank You, Sir."

Mentally, he cringed at his own eagerness, but nevertheless, turned his attention to the bank of consoles that provided full control over the ship's movements. Gingerly, he took the Helm and began to familiarise himself with every function.

[Bridge - USS Challenger]

There was little for the crew aboard the Challenger to do while it was in a parking orbit, regardless of which planet they happened to be orbiting. The crew did have daily tasks to complete to ensure the ship was fully prepared to execute a wide variety of actions they could be called on to perform. However, for the moment, the ship circled Ferenginar and the crew continued with their typical business as usual tasks.

On the bridge, Lieutenant Hector Espada at the helm was going over the flight duty roster and a flag on his console reminded him he was falling behind in his crew evaluations reports. He sighed and tapped his combadge.

"Ensign Fisher to the bridge."

The young ensign had come aboard at Starbase 153 and was due for a chance at the helm during Alpha shift. As the ship was in a stable orbit, now was a good time to give him his shot.

[Bridge - USS Challenger]

Brief though it was, the turbolift journey offered a chance to curb some of his nervous excitement, and to compose himself in a manner that suggested his reporting to the bridge was routine. Unavoidable as it was, he disliked the idea of being the fresh-faced new transfer.

As the familiar hum of movement ceased and doors parted, Robert couldn't deny himself the sense of accomplishment that followed his first foray into the command hub of the vessel.

"Ensign Fisher reporting for duty, Sir."

Character Species: Human

Character Family: Mother: Cmdr. April Fisher (deceased), Father: Lt.Cmdr. Henry Fisher (Deceased), Sister: Lt. Emily Fisher
Character Bio:

"The duty of a Starfleet officer is to protect those who aren't able to protect themselves."

The Dominion War had carved a festering wound into the lives of beings all across the galaxy, good intentions hailing the large-scale relief efforts that followed as the cure. With the responsibility of a young family in hand, the decision to accept a permanent assignment to aid Betazed seemed the least perilous.

Spending their formative years planet-side as both children of Starfleet officers and citizens of a multi-species, post-invasion community, Robert and his elder sister, Amy, had been gifted a valuable upbringing.

On reflection, Robert held no presumption that his future career or that of his sister had been pre-determined by having commissioned officers as parents, but a decade of multiple possibilities ended abruptly in 2386 when April and Henry Fisher were killed in action during the commencement of the Iconian War.

With his elder sister already in attendance at Starfleet Academy, eleven-year-old Robert found himself transported to Earth, a casualty of war and a refugee on a foreign planet. The elderly surviving grandparents on his mother's side offered him shelter and for the first time, the desire to submit an application to the Academy shaped the remainder of his studies.

By 2397, at the age of twenty-two, Robert Fisher graduated from Starfleet Academy and was assigned to continue the renewed relief efforts on Betazed which had been the target of a wide-scale assault during the Iconian War. Familiarity with the planet and its citizens offered the beginnings of a successful career.

Sample post:

For a brief moment, the passage of time ceased to exist. The void of unconsciousness triggered by the transport process terminated when the monotonous thrum of power and chirping of computer consoles signaled the group's arrival aboard the USS Barclay. Within the shadow of two decades, Betazed suffered invasion twice and as the latest extraction of evacuees sought safety within the bowels of the Starfleet vessel, the planet fell to the Iconians.

Transporter technology was a daily amenity for many of the Federation's citizens, but experience or even the idea of space travel was alien, especially to the eleven-year-old who had spent the entirety of his life on terra firma.

A flurry of activity surrounded the rescued passengers as Starfleet officers tended to the wounded and ushered them onwards to prepared quarters. Families, colleagues, and strangers consoled one another as they shuffled through busy corridors, the eleven-year-old maintaining his quiet, distanced gait.

Robert had no understanding of the reality thrust upon him after the death of his parents, shock currently numbing him to the grief that would certainly follow. For now, he obeyed the guiding hand resting gently on his shoulder, taking some comfort in the familiar uniforms and sense of purpose.
