{Bridge}

Sevoc maintained his station on the bridge. Although there had been some conflict with the Cardassians in the cargo bay, he had remained largely unaffected and uninterested. The thalaron radiation had been a minor concern and he had monitored the spikes, but they were distant enough now that it was no longer a threat. He was, for lack of a better word, bored. His mind began to wander inwardly, reflecting on his current personal situation. Perhaps it was due to his dual nature, being a contrast of both Andorian and Vulcan, that he never quite fit. He did his job and spent his downtime alone. The last time he attempted to reach out, he was transferred away before he could even begin to understand how he felt. Maybe it was easier to live his life in solitude, but it certainly was... lonely. He frowned in distaste at the thought. It was such an un-Vulcan emotional state.

So deep in thought was Sevoc, that he didn't immediately register that his shift was over and his replacement had been stammering at him for the past five minutes. With an annoyed look and a nod of acknowledgement, the science officer vacated his seat. Perhaps a meal and some light meditation would help him focus on a solution to his state of mind. When was the last time he ate something? Sometime yesterday, he was forced to admit. He shuffled off to the turbolift to return to his quarters.

{Crew Quarters}

Sevoc was in his room doing his meditation. He had found that he needed it more with their visitors on board. He was nearly done when he received the alert that he had a subspace message waiting for him.

"Na'shaya, Mr. Sevoc.

It has been far too long since we last spoke, so I hope this message finds you well. I appreciated your presence at the wedding, and I am sorry that the festivities prevented me from speaking at length with you, and I wish to know how you have been. There a few Vulcans left on the Shran now, and your proficiency is missed in the department.

Dif-tor heh smusma, Sevoc.

T'Ra"'

He read the message and recalled the ceremony. It was a pleasant mixture of both Earth and Vulcan traditions.

"Computer, begin recording:" he began.
"Na'shaya, T'Ra.

It is most agreeable to hear from you. As you well know, it was only logical that I attended. The merging of both cultures was masterfully arranged, creating quite a poignant ceremony. I understand the brevity of it all. I have been in better conditions. I have not adapted as well as I have in previous posts. Perhaps the issue is within myself. While the command staff of this vessel is adequate, it certainly lacks the particular style we employ. After this has been sent, I will endeavour to find a crewmate that I have some kind of common ground with, so to speak. Until our next communication, dif-tor heh smusma, T'Ra.

Computer, end recording and send"

Sevoc changed into his uniform. And made his way to the bridge.

{Bridge}

He entered and sat down at his console and began his daily routine.

Quickly navigating the hallways, Jettis tapped his commbadge to reply to the Doctor.
=/\="Acknowledged. Continuing looking around to see if you can find a cause - looking at sensor logs may help. At first I thought that the Cardassians were going to be our biggest problem, but I think there's something wrong here, and even the Captain isn't sure of what."=/\=

Closing that commlink, he opened another to Martin and Lek. =/\="How is your progress going? How long does the ship have left?"=/\=

Waiting for a reply from the Engineering officers, he waited until their conversation was finished, before contacting his fellow science officer. =/\="Sevoc - have you found anything of interest? If you aren't urgently busy, I'd like you to meet me somewhere, I think there's something we ought to look at."=/\=

{Gul Vanar}

Sevoc was looking things over. He hadn't seen much in the way of "interesting," but reported all he had.

=/\=There is not a whole lot here, sir, just shoddy construction to make it appear that this is the type of vessel they originally claimed,=/\= he replied. =/\=I am willing to meet you where you would like.=/\=

He made his way to a turbolift in preparation for meeting with the XO.

I just went with a shuttle. Sorry if it caused any confusion. I got a little behind and just kinda jumped in

Tag Martin. Don't mind Sevoc too much. He's a bit of a curmudgeon these days lol.

Martin nodded to Lek.  "Understood, sir," he answered.  Then, now apart from the Challenger, he took an opportunity to look around the shuttle.  Looking behind him, he saw someone he had seen around on the ship, but hadn't yet interacted with directly.  "Hey," he said, mildly startled.  He raised a hand in a half-wave, not wanting to bother the blue man by offering him his hand.  He looked rather straight-laced.  "Martin, Operations crewman," he said in way of introduction.

[Shuttlecraft McNair]

Sevoc looked up from his PADD.

"Greetings, crewman," he replied a little coldly, "you may refer to me as Lieutenant Sevoc or sir."

He expected a little bit more formality, but tried to not be too overbearing with it since it was clear that Martin was a fresh faced member of the crew.

He picked back up where he had paused and awaited the reply.

(Shuttlecraft McNair)

Sevoc had found his seat and was prepared for the trip. He had downloaded the schematics of all known Cardassian science vessels. If there was anything out of the ordinary, he would know it.

The levels of distrust had waxed and waned over the years after The Dominion War, and were much more in line with what it was around the time of the Enterprise-D.

With all the chatter from his crewmates, he anticipated a rather long flight there, even though it was a short distance relatively speaking.

Leela was looking over her shoulder and began to open her mouth as Sevoc began to talk. "Pshh." She shrugged dismissively. "Clearly our efficiency in doing nothing is an issue here, you Andorians are all alike... no sense of fun." Leela said turning her attention back to her console. "You know what, Captain, I once got drunk with a group of Andorians. Not me, but Juval, he was like that though." She said with a chuckle. "Let's just say things got surprisingly violent before becoming fun." Leela added.

{Bridge}

Sevoc raised an eyebrow at the Andorian remark. No matter how many times the mistake was made, he never had quite gotten used to it.

I would have thought my pointed ears and swooped eyebrows would also indicate that I am in fact part Vulcan, he began, but it seems at least this Trill only sees colors and not the details. Something that an operations officer would need to focus on more, perhaps, hmm?

With that, he returned to his console and checked over the scans for any new data.

Dylan spun side to side in his chair. "Wonderful, Mister Sevoc. Wonderful. Please send our daily report to Starfleet command, I'm sure they're... Dying to see what we've been up to." He said, as he stood up and paced the bridge again. It had been like this, day in and day out. The engines hadn't been used, they had nothing to go on, and they were essentially the biggest space-paperweight this side of the wormhole.

Dylan turned as the other officer spoke.

"Don't push your luck, Lieutenant. I'll take boredom over Borgdom any day of the year," he said, sounding both bored, tired, and exasperated all at the same time. "And don't break my ship- she's valuable, even if she is old."

He walked over to the side of the bridge and looked at a secondary console, which had the diagnostics of the ship running. If the ship went much longer without moving an inch, the engines would automatically shut down.

"Anyone got any stories?" He asked, completely dropping any sort of "professional" attitude. There was no place for that right now, he was all friendly now.

{Bridge}

I am not sure any of my stories would suffice, sir, Sevoc replied Besides, it would only serve to lower crew efficiency we're we to engage in story telling.

In typical Vulcan fashion, he responded coolly. He was not averse to stories, but they were beat served during off duty periods.

Captain's Log.

The USS Challenger is on patrol in the Dosi System. The Dosi have suffered recent raiding attacks from an unknown source, and due to the closeness of the Dominion to this planet, Starfleet took an interest and has assigned our ship as both a show of force and, hopefully, a diplomatic relay. So far the ship has been in a back-and-forth patrol, and we are gearing up to leave the system to check on one of the outer colonies.

[Bridge]

Dylan paced back and forth. It had been days of endless nothing. No contacts, no new spacecraft, and no hails. It was as if the outside galaxy had forgotten this little backwater piece of space existed.

Ever since 2370 when the Ferengi had made contact with the Dosi, it had been a touchy subject. After the war, the Dosi had successfully lobbied and earned rather peaceful exits from the Dominion, but still paid heavy "protection fees" to the Dominion. The Dominion had made it clear they disagreed with the move of the Dosi, and that outside interference would be.... frowned upon. So here the Challenger was- a Diplomatic vessel on the edge of a war zone, unable to do anything really except wave the flag. That, and report back if the Dominion violated the rights of the Dosi, until the Federation Council would meet- in three weeks time.

"Report, what's the latest sensor scan say about our little patch of emptiness out here?" he asked, as he tried to keep himself awake. "Any comms traffic or other vessels?"

Sevoc was at his station on the bridge. He heard the request and looked at the latest scans.

Nothing out of the ordinary, sir, he replied. Twenty particles of space dust per cubic meter, 52 ultraviolet radiation spikes, and a class-2 comet.

It was a pretty standard for this sector of space, but still worth noting.
