[Admiral Office, an hour later]

A refreshed admiral now fully back in his humanoid form sat behind his desk with a bottle of Andorian Ale and a few large mist glasses of cold milk. He was cycling through the reports concerning a few major issues among the starbase crew. One, in particular, he would like to know if he was going to accept the proposal. Tapping his comm badge,

=/\= Ensign Kinun, report to my office, immediately! Newberry out! =/\=

Sitting back in his chair, he hoped his daughter was enjoying the presents he got her and wished he could be down there but he had to tie up these matters first.

[Quarters]

He almost jumped when the admiral's voice came through the comms system. He stood, the withdrawal of the drugs made his hands shake and his thoughts cloudy... He wasn't used to this and he certainly didn't like it. He didn't dare risk going to the cargo bay again... and worst of all his emphatic abilities were starting to return, the one reason he'd taken the neural blocker.

He ran down the reasons that the Admiral would want him in his office... and none of them were good. Had the people ruined his starfleet career? Had the Admiral called him out so he could be easily arrested and carted off to a prison? Was it transfer orders as far away from this place as he could get? He didn't know and didn't want to find out. Unfortunately he had no alternative.

He left his quarters, freshly uniformed and taking back routes so he would be seen as little as possible. The shaking in his arm he somewhat concealed by clenching his fists, as he walked around and worked his way up to the office.

[Admiral's office- just outside]

He pressed the door chime and stood back, really really hoping the man wasn't in.

The Admiral waited a bit as he finished up reviewing more reports from across the fleet. There were also a few starbase shipment transfers that required his attention but nothing of upmost important. Several minutes later, his office chime goes off.

"Enter," Chris said.

Unfortunately, the Admiral was in. He walked in, and resigned himself to his fate. The spasms of his hand were noticeable, but not wildly out of control. "Y.. you wanted to see me, Sir?" he asked, having a feeling that things were not going his way in a hurry. He had to wait to see what the Admiral had to say- and see what his next job would be. Maybe the independent colonies were hiring... anyone.

Even from the distance between him and the door, the Admiral could sense the fear of the young Ensign and he had every right to be afraid of what could happen. A lion could be hiding in this office awaiting to pounch on him for supper or the he could be in a very bad mood and have security hiding out in a nearby office. The first one was true, not so much on the second though.

"Have a seat, Ensign," replied Chris without taking his eyes off the current PADD with the another report. "Would you like a cup of Ale?"

He did as he was told, trying to look around the room and see into as many corners as possible without looking like he was trying to see into as many corners as possible. He sat down, very much disliking being summoned to the commander of the entire fleet. It wasn't every day that an Admiral and an Ensign rubbed shoulders... much less two admirals within a week. What was even more rare was being summoned directly to an Admiral's office. It made him terrified.

"No, sir, thank you." he said, in response to the ale. He didn't trust anyone or anything right now... and he'd already been shot once today. Let's not make it twice. Who knew what was in the ale.

He finally put the padd down on his desk and took a very close look at the Ensign. The signs of withdrawal were there, but he wondered if the Ensign had regained any of his empathic abilities yet. He also looked fairly worse than when he saw him last in Truffles. "You are terrified, I can not only sense the fear your radiating but smell it, Ensign. You're scared of me for some reason?"

Ashley though a moment before she replied. "Bitter or fruity. I've never really liked anything overly sweet." She replied accidentally signing every word she spoke.

[Bar]

Zex frowned.  She didn't like bitter drinks so was very limited on suggestions.  "You could try a hard cider maybe" she said.

Although his emphatic abilities were spotty at best, he could tell that the Admiral knew. The admiral knew about the meds, about the meetings... and now the Admiral was going to make him disappear for quite a long time. "N..No sir." he said, not convincing anyone older than the age of six. "I'm not afraid of you."

It was a lie. He was terrified and was almost certain his insignia and commbadge would not leave the room with him. "It's... personal in nature." he said, trying desperately to cover.

He listens to the excuse Ensign Kinun gave but wasn't buying it at all. He pretty much was about to get to the point anyways now since he could be elsewhere. "I'm not buying it, Ensign. Not only is it a lousy excuse," he moved over his desk a little and was eye to eye with the young ensign. "It's also a lie. I've had over a century of experience in Starfleet, seen much more than you have, and possibly will ever see.

I'll come out with it, your empathic abilities should be coming back by now so you can tell I know more than I am saying to an extent but not my intentions. The operatives you've dealt with are SFI. They have given you a proposal. While I am not a part of SFI, I do deal with them on a regular basis, and they are trustworthy if you don't betray their trust.

So what's it going to be Ensign Kinun, a minimum of thirty years in New Zealand and lose your budding career, or take their offer for at least one assignment that could save many lives in the end?" He asked whiling sitting back in his chair.

He kept as straightfaced as he could as the Admiral called him out on his bull. He didn't expect it to hold up but he had to have tried. He didn't know how much the Admiral knew, but he knew it all wasn't good. He tried to avoid the eye contact but was unsuccessful, feeling the Admiral peering into his soul. He didn't know how long the Admiral had been in the service, but it was about time to find out.

When he mentioned his Empathic abilities, he looked like he wanted to shrink into the floorboards even more than he already did. So the Admiral knew about that...which would make this even more convoluted. He heard the man speak, but wasn't exactly sure he trusted him. How did he know that A) They really were SFI not s31, and B) any garuntee they'd not toss him out of an airlock afterwards.

He heard what the admiral said, and sighed. He didn't really have much of a choice here. He didn't want to go to New Zealand, of course, but he would have earned it either way."I'll do what they want." he said, not showing any of his thoughts.
