[Sickbay - USS Challenger]

Three figures appeared in sickbay, two holding the third up. Two were women in their 20s and one was a man in his late teens. It was one of the women that was hurt. All were wearing traditional ship-knit coveralls with a utility belt festooned with a variety of small equipment items. The older female was also wearing a leather pilot's jacket, gloves, and a pilot's
sidearm.

Quickly moving the female to a biobed, Jess scanned the patient and looked grim.

"Severe plasma burns, internal and external. Numerous severe bruises. Several broken bones. She needs immediate surgery."

At that point the two only slightly injured Jyn were escorted to biobeds as the most injured patient was hustled to the surgical suite. At this point, the security team arrived and relieved the Jyn of their weapons which included a surprising number of knives.

[Sickbay]

As the transport sequence was finalized, Abas turned and joined the others in triaging the patients. He came to the far side of the biobed and listened to the doctor's orders. Plasma burns and abrasions, and all the telltale signs of a no good, very bad, awful time. With all of the knives and weapons the figures had on them, it was amazing everywhere they'd managed to hide the implements.

As the security team finished their work, and the patient was escorted off to surgery, Abas followed. Plasma burns of this severity - second-degree at the least - meant that a dermal regenerator wouldn't cut it. As he walked, he reached into his bag and grabbed the container of dermaline gel, getting it ready if it was needed. The doctor's tone had told him enough - that this patient was in serious condition. The smell of singed skin and blood was in the air, with accents of carbon scoring.

As the patient was brought into the suite, Abas busied himself with his work, preparing anything the doctor might need for the skilled operation - hyposprays, auto sutures, laser scalpels, and regenerative tools. Thank goodness for the miracles of modern technology.

He waited, preparing to assist in the surgery in whatever way was needed - or handle anything else that happened, whatever the case may be.

He then turned to face Kyan.

"Send a security team ta sickbay. I wouldn't want our guests ta get too comfortable."

Torn between a desire to BE on the security team and his aversion to Dr Fellows' Chop Shop, Kyan tapped hi com badg in response. =/\= Mackenzie to Mrerakhas, we need tae have a security team in sickbay. We got company and we dinnae know if he's a wanker or not so we don't. =/\=

That settled, the Onlie started taking a look at the Klingon ship. It was an old B'Hrel class Bird of Prey. It was the smaller and older of the Klingon Birds of Prey. With regards to firepower, she was far outmatched by the Challenger, but she was far more maueverable. Overall though, if it came to blows she shouldn't be too much of a problem for the Challenger.

"Klingon's are using a B'Hrel." Kyan called out finally. "Just a wee Bird of Prey so she is. I dinnae think we'll have too much problem with them if they take tae shooting."

Ian nodded as Nira reported her observations, which matched his own suspicions. Frowning he replied.

"Aye Commander, both seem more than a wee bit less than above board. Sure'n summat is afoot. A repair team has already beamed over ta stabilize the Satra. Take a team over and give that ship a proper, pre asylum inspection. Perhaps we'll get some straight answers from the ship-"

Before Ian could continue, Commander CatalÁ¡n interrupted.

"Sorry Captain. New contact on sensors. Our database identifies the ship as Jyn Cruiser Everen and it will arrive in approximately 45 minutes."

"Well, isn't out dance card gettin' full. Bloody hell. Okay Nira, you have half an hour ta investigate the Satra before our additional guests arrive. Be thorough, we need answers."

[Commander Nira Said | Bridge | Deck One | USS Challenger NCC-40117-A]

"Aye, Captain," said Nira, enthusiastic to lead an investigation. And the news of a Jyn cruiser incoming certainly complicates things.

"Mackenzie, Catalan, Jyur, you're with me," said Nira to the two officers. "We have half an hour to make our investigation of the ship, so we'll have to make the time we have count."

Catalan followed last on the turbolift, having summoned Aarwendil to relieve him on the bridge.

[Commander Nira Said | Jyn Faisha Vessel Satra | Thelonis Sector]

Nira and her team appeared on the Jyn vessel. She could see the repair crews led by Neva were already there and starting work, smoking mess as it was.

"Hello, Ensign," Nira said. "Don't mind us, we're just conducting an inspection."

She looked around. Scanners told them that they were alone. It was certainly confirmed in that Nira can sense nobody besides who came on Challenger. Small ship as it was...

As the most critically wounded patient was prepared for surgery, Dr. Fellows followed along side the gurney. At this point, the very stern Nurse T'ealc leveled her hard gaze at Abas as she lowered her tricorder.

"Crewman. These two need treatment as well. Nothing major. Some abrasions and minor burns. Take biobeds three and four."

[Bridge - Satra]

Damage Control Team Six knew their jobs and Neva only really had to do was stay out of the way while the team worked. Although the small ship was going to need serious repairs later. They were quickly able to douse the sparking and vent the smoke. Once the environment was more stable, the team stabilized the worst of the damage. The warp core had to be shut down, but impulse was still fine, so there was enough power to continue repairs or to even maneuver the ship if it had to.

[Shuttle Observation Bay - USS Challenger]

As the Flight Control Department was responsible for everything that flew on the Challenger, to include her many shuttles, there were always pilots on standby should the need arise to transport some one, or to supplement the ship's firepower in a fight. It was mostly a boring assignment as such assignments weren't common in deep space. So when the Flight Chief called down to the Observation Bay Tiio was surprised and was even more surprised when the Chief addressed her by name.

Lieutenant Hector Espada

As the Flight Control Department was responsible for everything that flew on the Challenger, to include her many shuttles, there were always pilots on standby should the need arise to transport some one, or to supplement the ship's firepower in a fight. It was mostly a boring assignment as such assignments weren't common in deep space. So when the Flight Chief called down to the Observation Bay Tiio was surprised and was even more surprised when the Chief addressed her by name.

=/\= "Ensign Denton, report to transporter room seven for piloting duties." =/\=

Kaniehtiio hadn't been aboard the Challenger long, but she was already finding aspects of it she didn't like. Swiping disappointedly through a PADD, glancing over the details of the Trailblazer-Class vessel for the umpteenth time, the pilot had found herself relegated to being on-call for shuttle duty as opposed to being part of the Bridge rotation. She shouldn't have been surprised, but she was still annoyed Command hadn't taken note of her greater proficiency for large, less-agile starships and her ability to push them to their operational limits to compensate in ways most Starfleet pilots couldn't.

Glancing up as the flash of going to Red Alert mixed with the sirens that accompanied it, Tiio took note of the few that started to rush to stations, but she was clearly not in as much of a hurry. Closing her PADD and slipping it into a pocket, she'd just started to push herself up from the chair, using the table in front of her for leverage, when the call came in from Lieutenant Espada.

At first, she had a moment of elation at the idea of potentially being ordered up to the bridge, but that quickly turned to confusion as she took in the specifics of the orders. Almost immediately after, Tiio tapped her commbadge to respond back to the Flight Chief.

=/\="What am I piloting, Chief?=/\=

Almost immediately Hector responded back with the fact she would be transporting over to the Satra; an alien ship belonging to a race she was pretty sure she'd never even heard of before, and Tiio had certainly traveled to a great many places in her thirty years. Acknowledging back in the standard, dutiful way, the woman's face was stoic, bordering on annoyance, as she gathered whatever necessary gear she may need and made her way toward the turbolift to head one deck up to the designated transporter room.

Arriving at Transporter Room Seven, the Ops personnel manning the station gave Tiio a confused look. While the others may have transported over in just their uniforms, the pilot had heard about the damage and wasn't taking any chances. Wearing one of the updated flight suits, the helmet sat open but could be quickly closed and the suit pressurized should the Jyn ship suddenly lose pressurization. In her hand was a small case carrying a plethora of repair tools; short of what an Engineer might carry, but enough to get by in an emergency, which Tiio saw this as.

Stepping up on the transporter pad, the Ensign shot daggers at the Transporter Controller and ordered, "Energize."

[Jyn Ship Satra | Bridge]

Materializing on the Bridge of the Jyn Ship, Tiio quickly took in the looks of the other Challenger crew working to make what repairs were deemed most necessary. She didn't seem to mind the looks she got given the helmeted flight suit she was wearing, uttering simply, "This ship is alien. I don't know if it will hold together. I'd rather be cautious than dead. If you all pass out, I'll make sure we get home." The woman paused, as if waiting to see if anyone had any questions, but quickly spoke up before any could really ask any, "Which console is Flight Control?" as she glanced about for what looked the most likely.

[ USS Challenger - Bridge - Science One ]

"Aye, sir." His immediate response was followed by the man closing himself out of the science station, immediately to be taken over by Randell. Before handing it over, he briefly took a glance at the available officers that were qualified for bridge duty. Sigurdsdottir and Sh'vhaorhath were working on some time-sensitive experiments, so his eyes fell down the list to the new transfer. N'Jeer, a Romulan exchange officer.

Withholding his judgement for the moment, he tapped his commbadge to address the man, turning on his heel to follow Commander Said.  =/\="Lieutenant N'Jeer, apologies for the short notice. Please report in to the bridge for Bridge duty." =/\= Having all three science stations was a necessary precaution in this scenario. Stepping into the turbolift with the other two, Catalan in tow, the doors slid shut with a whoosh.

[ Satra - Cargo Hold -- > Bridge ]

When Jettis was permitted to split off from the group, his immediate destination was to run some scans on the kemocite. Their time was limited, so the more information he could cram in, the better.

Firstly was a visual inspection. As predicted, it was loaded into Klingon storage containers. Right off the bat, that sent questions sailing through his mind. Pulling up his tricorder, he approached the nearest cargo. The scan immediately revealed the first problem of many - it was not kemocite ore. It was preprocessed - or at least partially, yet another problem revealed. He made a mental note to bring up that the Jyn Faisha processing methods should be researched. It seemed unlikely that they would be transporting half-processed Kemocite for any reason. It also made it significantly harder to tell where it may originate from, seeing as they had already begun refining it.

He scanned a few other crates for good measure, to ensure there wasn't an odd one out. Then, he cranked up his scans to see if he could ascertain anything further.  A third problem - while it had already been stripped of many identifying minerals, it contained something else. Tetracyanite, most likely used for the refining, despite it's dangerous nature. And almost certainly not of Klingon origin.

Jettis straightened, continuing his inspection of the remainder of the Kemocite. He didn't find any outliers or wild differences, so with his work completed he would return to report to Nira, with hardly time to spare. In the short time they had been there, the Engineering crew had made repairs in record time. There was still more to do, naturally, but at least it didn't look like a bomb had gone off seconds ago.

He wanted to catch the XO at a moment when she wasn't being hounded by the Satra's Captain, which seemed like it would be more difficult than expected. Sparing a moment when he wouldn't interrupt, he dipped his head to Llydin, and turned to Nira.

"Commander. I have finished inspecting the Kemocite shipment. Though I didn't find anything to determine who it rightfully belongs to, there is at least compelling evidence that it is kemocite processed by the Jyn Faisha." He selected his words carefully, not wanting to give them the idea that the investigation was over. Far from it in fact, his findings had only brought up more confusing questions. And though it was likely Jyn kemocite, his findings swayed Jettis more of the opinion that it was the Klingon's. All that would remain to be seen though, hopefully the questioning Commander Said had done, and perhaps an investigation of ships logs had brought more information to light.

"Life support is working fine now that we've vented the smoke, Sir. However, to answer your question. Helm is that console."

He then joined the rest of the team as they beamed back to Challenger.

Glancing over to the indicated console, the Ensign's dark gaze turned back to the Benzite as he turned to join the others setting up to return to the ship. She called to him, "I'll come find you when I get back to the Challenger, Crewman." While it didn't quite sound like a threat, it was surely a promise to find the unmistakable face once she returned.

But there was no time to dwell. Turning to take a seat in the chair of the console serving as the Helm, Tiio activated it only to immediately shake her head at the alien language being displayed. Sliding out of the seat to sit on the floor, the pilot popped open the console's paneling to find the connections she sought, cursing the entire time in the amalgamated language of First Nations peoples developed over the last couple of centuries. Pulling a cable from the small toolbox she'd brought with her, the Ensign connected her PADD to the console, setting the Universal Translator to show her a copy of the Flight Controls in Federation Standard.

Taking the helmsman seat again, this time with her left hand holding her PADD, her eyes flicked back and forth as Tiio took command of the runabout-sized vessel. Pressing a couple of options, she opened a ship-wide PA system to announce:

"Attention passengers. This is your New Captain speaking. Please secure any loose cargo, and, unless you trust this heap to keep together, I would suggest beaming back to the Challenger soon. I will be piloting us into her shuttle bay in ten minutes. Captain out."

Tiio was serious about her warning as she closed the PA system and got to work running a quick diagnostic to ensure the Satra would make the short trip. Given the exterior damage and the smell of burning electronics in the air, she didn't have much faith. There was a reason she'd decided to wear the flight suit, and now she just had to hope the alien vessel would hold together long enough not to force her to have to eject into space.

[Commander Nira Said | Jyn Faisha Vessel Satra | Thelonis Sector]

Nira conducted her search with Kyan while she permitted Jettis to scan the kemocite and had Commander Catalan get to work on the ship's computer to check for anything suspicious. She was a little surprised by the PA from Tiio. She flinched at first, and then made a note to check on her. She had asked Challenger how come she was there and was informed she was going to be piloting the ship in the Jyn's place.

"I suppose that could be a good will gesture," Nira said, and continued.

In terms of anything not related to kemocite, the search on the ship didn't reveal much. Three physical paper books - a hardcover "Count of Monte Cristo" and two paperback novels ("Her Eyes Beseeched Him" and "Passion On the Sand")...along with a case of Romulan ale and a Federation surplus phaser rifle. Clearly illegally obtained.

Nira harrumphed. She read up as much as she could on the Jyn when the Challenger left Starbase 153 but before she went swimming with the dolphins. It was the first she had seen that the Jyn were wanderers, hence her starting to compare the Jyn with Bedouins. Nomadic tradesmen and merchants as they were (that was the first thing that, in Nira's eyes, made them different from Bedouins, who preferred to take herds everywhere they went), she read the rumors about the Jyn Faisha being smugglers and even pirates...

"Well, with the rumors I heard in reading up about the Jyn Faisha," Nira said, "looks like it's true that they're smugglers. Or probably some, I don't know. And from the look of things here, the smugglers have been sampling their own wares."

She made the notation and returned to Jettis. When he mentioned his findings, she asked, "What did you find, Lieutenant?"

From Jettis' findings, he found that the kemocite was partially processed. That certainly got Nira's attention; leaving kemocite partially processed omits many of the trace elements identifying it's source, and it was a practice outside normal Klingon habit. What was more, it was laced with Tetracyanite. Now that was dangerous.

Looking at the scans, she raised an eyebrow. "It's definitely processed by the Jyn Faisha. It's specifically Tetracyanite 609. Minute traces, but that particular Tetracyanite is used in Jyn Faisha processing plants, I read up on the Faisha."

And it's another thing that makes them different from Bedouins,
Nira thought to herself. Bedouins don't mine for, much less process ores. Chances are, the Jyn bring their processing plants with them on their city ships as they wander, but where do they mine if they're wanderers?

She broke off briefly, took a quick look. They were loaded in Klingon crates, but given the descriptions that they were from the Jyn, it certainly raised some questions in her head. What did the Klingons have to do with it? Kharn claimed they purchased it, but Llydin stated otherwise. So was Kharn trying to steal Jyn kemocite...?

Remembering the time limit, with less than twenty minutes before the cruiser arrived, Nira set aside the questions and theories - there will be time for that later - and said, "Question is, how did that get here? And where do the Jyn mine for kemocite? I'll have to ask Captain Llydin later."

She made a note to talk to Llydin when she got back aboard and then approached Commander Catalan. Tiio was at the helm nearby, and Nira was surprised by the flightsuit. It brought to mind her own tactical armor that she brought to Challenger from the Discover at first thought.

"Find anything in particular, Commander?" Nira asked. When the commander reported his findings, Nira pondered. A thought then came to her...

"Ensign Denton," she said, turning to Tiio. I'd like you two to pull up the Satra's star charts and previous course. I'd like to see where they had been recently."

Tiio nodded sharply, "Yes, Commander," before seemingly pausing as she kept glancing between the display on her PADD and the alien console in front of her. While not anywhere near as quick or smooth as she was when sitting in front of a Starfleet console, it didn't take the pilot long before she'd pulled up the requested display. Sitting back and looking over both the console's viewscreen and the PADD in her upturned palm, the Ensign shifted the PADD from her left hand to her right before offering it to Nira. "Here you go, Sir. This should be the translation," she said, but reminded, "Just don't go too far. It's on a tether," indicating to the cable extending from the bottom of the PADD to down between her knees into the Flight Control console's exposed circuitry.

As the minutes ticked by with no further word from the Bridge as to what was happening, Lahr settled down into a Lounge chair to wait for either the ship to engage in battle, or for someone to downgrade the alert giving him the ability to return to his usual duty.

He could see Ensign Jones pacing the same patch of carpeting near the entrance.   "Keep that up and you're going to wear a hole in the carpet. Sit. There's nothing to do until the worst happens so might as well make the best of it."

He could tell from the ensign's lack of response and continued pacing that she didn't agree with him.  Oh well.  He tried.

[Bridge - Satra]

The ship's navigation logs revealed extensive use of the small ship making multiple stops on multiple worlds throughout the Thelonis Sector and all the adjacent sectors to include the Otorin Sector, as well as the edge of Romulan space and several Klingon border worlds. Nothing stood out as a red flag as the logs showed an itinerant trader conducting trade.

[Sickbay - USS Challenger]

As the most critically wounded patient was prepared for surgery, Dr. Fellows followed along side the gurney. At this point, the very stern Nurse T'ealc leveled her hard gaze at Abas as she lowered her tricorder.

"Crewman. These two need treatment as well. Nothing major. Some abrasions and minor burns. Take biobeds three and four."

[Sickbay]

It appeared the doctor had things well and truly in hand in the surgical ward. Like spiders across the water, the sickbay was still a hive of activity. As the surgery techs took over from the prep, and the doctor began surgery, the lead nurse directed his actions elsewhere. Two additional patients - neither of which had serious injuries.

He nodded slightly, before turning and briskly walking to the biobeds indicated and beginning to tend to the patients. Minor lacerations, burns, abrasions, and other minor maladies. As he wanted the tricorder up and down, and the computer dictated what was occurring, Abas also relied on his own senses. Aenar culture and tradition mandated - in the strictest sense - that the thoughts and minds of others were not to be read, but even despite that his telepathy couldn't help but feel the intense emotions and pain that was being radiated like a beacon by the patients.

He prepared a hypospray of Terakine to help dull the pain and set to work with the dermal regenerator on the afflicted areas of the patients. The beeping and status of the biobed would become less abrasive and alert over time, as the patient's vitals returned to baseline and the injuries continued to be attended to. Of course, that was provided nothing else went wrong.

[Bridge - USS Challenger]

Ian eyed the ensign and figured he'd need an update.

"Ensign, there is more goin' on that I generally like. Main things for you ta concern yourself with are, a cloaked Klingon in the area and an approaching Jyn cruiser. Both sides seem ta have a beef over some kemocite and we need ta figure out what we don't ken sooner rather than later. Now you ken as much as what's goin' on as the rest of us about what's important ta Ops."

[USS Challenger-A / Bridge]

Aarwendil paid close attention to what the Captain was saying. Needing to deal with Klingons was already a bit problematic, but a group of them that was pissed with another ship was even worse. The Ensign predicted that trouble was going to come to the Challenger.

Understood, Captain." he said, nodding at Ian. Since they were going to deal with the Klingons, Aarwendil would use his console to gather all the files that were disponible about this species. While they were well known, the young Betazoid believed that it could still be useful to have that on hand if the situation got worse.
