[Bridge - Satra]

The ship's navigation logs revealed extensive use of the small ship making multiple stops on multiple worlds throughout the Thelonis Sector and all the adjacent sectors to include the Otorin Sector, as well as the edge of Romulan space and several Klingon border worlds. Nothing stood out as a red flag as the logs showed an itinerant trader conducting trade.

[Commander Nira Said | Jyn Faisha Vessel Satra | Thelonis Sector]

Nira studied the star chart and the course set by the Satra. It had been quite around, between the Thelonis Sector, around the Otorin sector, edging along the Klingon and Romulan borders. She did note how much it stopped by Klingon border planets, but overall, it looked more like a trading route. She took note of the Klingon planets, setting that aside in her mind, remembering Kharn, and then she stood up.

"Thank you, Tiio, it was much appreciated," said Nira. "Okay, you three," she added to Kyan, Jettis and Catalan. "Let's see how much more we can look through in the time we have left."

She checked her chronometer. Seventeen minutes before they had to leave. Chances were, they might finish their double check in seven.

Torn between a desire to BE on the security team and his aversion to Dr Fellows' Chop Shop, Kyan tapped hi com badg in response. =/\= Mackenzie to Mrerakhas, we need tae have a security team in sickbay. We got company and we dinnae know if he's a wanker or not so we don't. =/\=

That settled, the Onlie started taking a look at the Klingon ship. It was an old B'Hrel class Bird of Prey. It was the smaller and older of the Klingon Birds of Prey. With regards to firepower, she was far outmatched by the Challenger, but she was far more maueverable. Overall though, if it came to blows she shouldn't be too much of a problem for the Challenger.

"Klingon's are using a B'Hrel." Kyan called out finally. "Just a wee Bird of Prey so she is. I dinnae think we'll have too much problem with them if they take tae shooting."

=/\= "Acknowledged, Lieutenant Commander Mackenzie. I shalt head there at once." =/\=

Zhukdra'shar spoke, with his usual proper, and Shakesperean demeanor, before sprinting off toward the Sickbay.

=/\= "This is Lieutenant Mrekrerhas speaking. I require four Security officers to assist within Sickbay at once. Please, do make haste." =/\=

While he spoke up, he prepared his trusty Type-2 hand phaser, setting it to stun as he rode down in the turbo-lift. He wondered if whoever had been picked up by the Challenger would be a problem. He indeed hoped not, but one never knew. And he wouldn't mind some action. Maybe something that didn't involve others getting hurt, however. Just a little scuffle that would soon be rectified by his appearance, and some show of marksmanship.

As he exited through the doors, he came to find Senior Petty Chief Officer Blackfeather, as well as Crewmen Thompson and Masters awaiting him. The trio were human males and though Zhuk did not know the latter very well outside of his duties within Security, Blackfeather was someone quite dependable, he came to find.

Yet, there was someone new amongst them too. A human female, who was unfamiliar to him. A Cadet. He supposed that he would proceed to meet her during this endeavor. He offered them a small smile and a nod of acknowledgment. Their response had been speedy, and he had to commend them later for that.

"Thank you, lady and gentlemen. Let us see what we are dealing with, shalt we?"

[Sickbay - USS Challenger]

Three figures appeared in sickbay, two holding the third up. Two were women in their 20s and one was a man in his late teens. It was one of the women that was hurt. All were wearing traditional ship-knit coveralls with a utility belt festooned with a variety of small equipment items. The older female was also wearing a leather pilot's jacket, gloves, and a pilot's
sidearm.

Quickly moving the female to a biobed, Jess scanned the patient and looked grim.

"Severe plasma burns, internal and external. Numerous severe bruises. Several broken bones. She needs immediate surgery."

At that point, the two only slightly injured Jyn were escorted to biobeds as the most injured patient was hustled to the surgical suite. At this point, the security team arrived and relieved the Jyn of their weapons which included a surprising number of knives.

They moved in just in time to gaze upon a trio of figures that had just manifested within the area, two women, one grievously injured, and a younger male. Zhuk took note of their peculiar attire but commended nothing upon it. Even though he found the pilot's leather jacket to be quite an appealing set of garments. He had to get something as fancy as that later. In any case, his ears managed to pick up Doctor Fellows' instructions to take her to surgery, immediately.

That bad, huh? It seemed as if there would be no fight. Still, there was protocol to carry out. He motioned in the general direction where the badly injured woman was being taken, though making sure to keep his fingers towards the ground. He didn't want to be rude, after all. Just to make a point, "Crewman Masters, head towards Surgery and remain outside. If anything transpires, I want you to assist the medical staff as you see fit,"

He made a pause, as Owen offered a nod, and headed off to do as he was told, "We shalt proceed to disarm our guests, as per our guidelines, in the meanwhile."

Zhuk made sure to allow the medical crew to take them to the biobeds, as well as begin to treat their wounds before he stepped forth with his fellow officers in tow.

"Greetings, esteemed temporal residents of our humble ship, the USS Challenger. My name is Lieutenant Mrekrerhas, and while I would hate to be a nuisance, I shalt require you to surrender any and all weapons that you possess at once. Security matters, I am sure you understand. Do not worry, you shalt be kept safe, and if possible, your items shalt be returned to you after you leave our vessel."

He proceeded to offer a polite hand to the woman, before indicating the Cadet to frisk the adolescent as her first unofficial test under his command. Blackfeather remained close by her, while Thompson stuck by Zhukdra'shar, just in case.

Though things were tense for a moment, the woman giving him an odd look, she proceeded to sigh and relent, taking the sidearm from its holster and offering it to the Caitian.

"Much appreciated," Unfortunately, that was as much courtesy as both offered, forcing the Security officers to manually retrieve any and all concealed weapons. Dutifully, however, he went ahead, showing little emotion towards them that demonstrated his annoyance at their lack of proper cooperation.

What Zhuk was not expecting, however, was for the two of them to be carrying so many blades. Several knives of different lengths, widths, and shapes were offered up by two Jyn, so many in fact, that Zhuk had to carefully give a few of them to Crewman Thompson to keep himself from accidentally cutting himself,

"A-Ah... I see you are... rather substantially well-armed. I would adore to inquire as to the reason, albeit I suppose that space is a rather dangerous expanse, is it not?"

He commented, hoping to maybe glean some more information from the two of them, while also keeping an eye on Cadet Denton, making sure she was doing alright. At least, it beat being almost mauled by a savage beast as he almost was within his first assignment. He thought? Eh...

"By the by, exemplary work, Crewman," Zhuk made sure to give a passing comment towards the Aenar that had busy at work patching people up. He supposed that some niceness went a long way. But also his similar appearance to Lahr made him curious about him. Later, he would have to ask him if he too was an Andorian like his good old friend.

While Commander Said held her confab with the new pilot; who's name was apparently Tiio, short for something entirely to complex to even attempt without butchering"¦ which grups tended to get pissy about, Kyan looked over the surplus phaser rifle. It was an older type 3. It hadn't been in use by most Starfleet personnel since the 2370s. Even still, the chances of someone acquiring one legally was nil. Starfleet wasn't in the habit of selling their outdated weapons.

It might have been found following the Dominion War, when most of the debris from the various battles was still floating around, or it might have been stolen. Either way, simply possessing it was a criminal act, which would be a useful tidbit later when they questioned the Satra's crew. After checking all the parts Kyan was sure that it was Federation issue. The power cell was original, as was the emitter crystal. At least they looked original. But short of hooking it up to the diagnostic equipment back on the Challenger, there was only one way to tell for sure.

Kyan brought up the settings menu on the rifle's interface and put it in diagnostic mode, which brought the fire setting to it's lowest level. At that intensity, the beam wouldn't even leave a mark on the bulkhead, much less damage anything. At that setting the rifle was good for laser tag and battle drills. Kyan had often used it for the former when he could convince enough grups to play it. But the weapon's diagnostic cycle would tell him the efficiency of the emitter crystal, which for this model was a dead giveaway as to whether it was Starfleet issue.

As he readied the test, Kyan recalled the last time he'd used a rifle of this model, It was back during the Dominion War on the Avernal. Remembering those days made him smile. Life on the old Steamrunner Class ship was almost as fun as it was on the Latinum Beetle. They were constantly flying from one engagement to the next, always short handed and usually outgunned, but ship was tough and had a good crew.

As Kyan readied the rifle for a diagnostic, he remembered a trick the Avernal's armory officer had enjoyed playing on new Crewmen and Ensigns who wandered into the armory. He was an old Efrosian Chief who's mustache almost reached his belly if he didn't braid it. He'd done it to just about everyone, including Kyan and the uptight First Officer. She wasn't amused. Kyan was. He made sure to drop by and watch the show as often as he could after the Chief had gotten him. And since there was a war on, and the Avernal was always losing people to transfers and the casualty lists, there was never a shortage of new ensigns and crewmen to "œtag" as the Chief put it.

"œAye Commander." Kyan muttered as he finished setting the old rifle up. "œFirst I just need tae have a quick test of this so we ken it's ours and not a fake so"¦"

When he was finished with the settings he brought the weapon up to his shoulder and got a good sight picture in the pop up sight.

"œHey! Ensign Tiio." He called out, suppressing a giggle.

When the pilot turned to face him he fired.

After being thanked by Nira, Tiio took back her PADD to finish up her diagnostic and start to prepare the Jyn runabout for impulse travel. While she'd taken note of the Security Chief when she'd initially beamed aboard, Tiio had paid him no mind as their duties differed. The only reason she was familiar with Commander Mackenzie was because she'd made it a point to know of those who would be training her sister and had already heard some comments and gossip about those in that department from Elva. While the two had not formally met, this was neither the time nor the situation to be making such introductions.

So it was a surprise to her when she heard her name being called by the unfamiliar voice, and even more so given the combination of her Rank and her informal moniker. Growling momentarily, Tiio's gaze narrowed on the Senior Officer. This was the second time one of her peers had made light of the situation she deemed much more serious than they did.

This was not the time nor the place to deal with it. Given what little she knew, Tiio reigned in her annoyance and lifted her chin in a mildly challenging acknowledgment of the Onlie. "If you want to play games, Commander, we should meet in the holodeck sometime for hand-to-hand practice. I'm sure my sister Cadet Denton has told you of our family's penchant for such things." Tiio only eyed Kyan for another brief moment before returning to the helmsman seat, having to lean down to pick back up her PADD that was still tethered to the alien vessel's flight control console.

Continuing her pre-flight procedures, Tiio called back, with clear annoyance in her tone, "Seven minutes until departure!" hoping the playful Security Chief and others would get the hint that time was not on their side.

[Sickbay]

It appeared the doctor had things well and truly in hand in the surgical ward. Like spiders across the water, the sickbay was still a hive of activity. As the surgery techs took over from the prep, and the doctor began surgery, the lead nurse directed his actions elsewhere. Two additional patients - neither of which had serious injuries.

He nodded slightly, before turning and briskly walking to the biobeds indicated and beginning to tend to the patients. Minor lacerations, burns, abrasions, and other minor maladies. As he wanted the tricorder up and down, and the computer dictated what was occurring, Abas also relied on his own senses. Aenar culture and tradition mandated - in the strictest sense - that the thoughts and minds of others were not to be read, but even despite that his telepathy couldn't help but feel the intense emotions and pain that was being radiated like a beacon by the patients.

He prepared a hypospray of Terakine to help dull the pain and set to work with the dermal regenerator on the afflicted areas of the patients. The beeping and status of the biobed would become less abrasive and alert over time, as the patient's vitals returned to baseline and the injuries continued to be attended to. Of course, that was provided nothing else went wrong.

While T'ealc's assessment that none of the injuries on the two Jyn were serious, they were fairly extensive, especially on the male. However, the dermal regenerator was up to the task and after thirty minutes, the two were healed, their outfits unfortunately, were beyond salvage.

When Zhuk and his team arrived, the Jyn knew resisting was pointless, so they allowed themselves to be searched. They did not, however, assist in the process, so it took the officers some time before they were certain they'd found all the blades the two concealed. Once they were done, the female said with a smirk.

"All things considered sailor, I think, at the very least, you owe me a drink Lieutenant. Captain Llydin of the Jyn Faisha ship Satra. I would like to speak to your Captain."

As Llydin waited for Zhuk's reply, she caught Abas' attention.

"Tell me Crewman, how is my co-pilot, Mythas?"

Ian Galloway

[Deep Space - Thelonis Sector]

Having completed their erstwhile inspection, Nira's away team beamed back to the Challenger, leaving Tiio alone. Docking the damaged Satra was anti-climatic as after being coaxed into position by Tiio, the courier was tractored into the main shuttlebay without incident.

The Jyn cruiser Everen arrived as expected, which led to a short conversation between Ian and the Jyn Captains Galon and Llydin. Although the presence of the phaser rifle was a minor sticking point with Llydin insisting that "the Orion who sold it to me assured me it was perfectly legal."

Ian could only smirk at that as he'd been undercover on the border when he was First Officer of Discovery and knew how free and loose rules and assurances were in this region of space. And since the Thelonis Sector was officially neutral, Starfleet did not have much sway here. He did confiscate the rifle on the basis that it was of Federation make, but other than that, he didn't have grounds to hold Llydin. However, when he asked about the Kemocite, things became animated.

"Yes dammit. We stole the Kemocite from the Klingons, but that was only to get proof they were raiding Jyn mines. Thus far, there have been five separate attacks, but the Klingons haven't left anyone alive to testify."

At this point, Galon spoke up in an attempt at diplomacy.

"As you see Captain Galloway, it is the Jyn that are the wronged party in all this... unpleasantness. As this area is unclaimed, there are no pre-exisiting mineral rights. Each party is free to harvest whatever resources they can find. However, the Klingons seem to think they can simply take whatever they want. It was the Jyn that first mapped this sector hundreds of years ago and we not be pushed out of this area. The Jyn Faisha city-ship Erain is on her way to support our miners and we have already been pushed as far as we will tolerate."

Ian sighed at the stalemate, but Galon had given him an 'out' even if he hadn't meant to do so.

"Very well captains. As you mentioned, this is neutral territory. It is unfortunate that you are havin' difficulties with the Klingons, but as Starfleet doesn't have jurisdiction here, my hands are tied. I will return, Satra and her crew, less the phaser rifle, ta you. I wish you the very best with your 'Klingon' problem."

At this point, Llydin and her crew were escorted to their ship, which then made the short flight to the Everen's shuttlebay. When the cruiser warped out, Ian ordered the Challenger to resume her course to the Iota Thelonis System to locate the still missing USS Burke.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Entering Iota Thelonis System]
As the Challenger began her scans to locate the missing ship, Commander CatalÁ¡n spoke up.
"Sir, I am receiving a priority call from the Iota Thelonis System's Governor, his name is Kras. He is demanding to speak to you immediately."
Ian sighed as the day just kept getting better and better.
"On screen."
"Captain. It is my understanding that you released an acknowledged pirate in violation of pre-established treaties with the Klingons. I find this incredulous that a Starfleet captain would act in this manner."
"Governor. Per that treaty, you should know as the leader of a colony in neutral territory that Starfleet does not have jurisdiction in this sector."
"Be that as it may, your actions have set in motion events that will have serious, if not catastrophic, for this whole sector. The Klingon ambassador has informed me the Empire is sending reinforcements."
"That is unfortunate Governor, but the matter is between the Klingons and the Jyn Faisha."
"Your cavalier attitude is noted Captain. I will be speaking to your superiors about your blatant disregard for the treaty with the Klingons. Going forward, I expect to honor the treaty because within 48 hours, this situation will no longer be a Federation problem."
The signal abruptly ended.
"When it rains, it bloody pours. Mister Jyur, continue scannin' for the Burke, but keep an eye out for trouble, Klingon or Jyn."
Growling momentarily, Tiio's gaze narrowed on the Senior Officer. This was the second time one of her peers had made light of the situation she deemed much more serious than they did.
This was not the time nor the place to deal with it. Given what little she knew, Tiio reigned in her annoyance and lifted her chin in a mildly challenging acknowledgment of the Onlie. "If you want to play games, Commander, we should meet in the holodeck sometime for hand-to-hand practice. I'm sure my sister Cadet Denton has told you of our family's penchant for such things." Tiio only eyed Kyan for another brief moment before returning to the helmsman seat, having to lean down to pick back up her PADD that was still tethered to the alien vessel's flight control console.
Continuing her pre-flight procedures, Tiio called back, with clear annoyance in her tone, "Seven minutes until departure!" hoping the playful Security Chief and others would get the hint that time was not on their side.
Having completed their erstwhile inspection, Nira's away team beamed back to the Challenger, leaving Tiio alone. Docking the damaged Satra was anti-climatic as after being coaxed into position by Tiio, the courier was tractored into the main shuttlebay without incident.
The Jyn cruiser Everen arrived as expected, which led to a short conversation between Ian and the Jyn Captains Galon and Llydin. Although the presence of the phaser rifle was a minor sticking point with Llydin insisting that "the Orion who sold it to me assured me it was perfectly legal."
Ian could only smirk at that as he'd been undercover on the border when he was First Officer of Discovery and knew how free and loose rules and assurances were in this region of space. And since the Thelonis Sector was officially neutral, Starfleet did not have much sway here. He did confiscate the rifle on the basis that it was of Federation make, but other than that, he didn't have grounds to hold Llydin. However, when he asked about the Kemocite, things became animated.
"Yes dammit. We stole the Kemocite from the Klingons, but that was only to get proof they were raiding Jyn mines. Thus far, there have been five separate attacks, but the Klingons haven't left anyone alive to testify."
At this point, Galon spoke up in an attempt at diplomacy.
"As you see Captain Galloway, it is the Jyn that are the wronged party in all this... unpleasantness. As this area is unclaimed, there are no pre-exisiting mineral rights. Each party is free to harvest whatever resources they can find. However, the Klingons seem to think they can simply take whatever they want. It was the Jyn that first mapped this sector hundreds of years ago and we not be pushed out of this area. The Jyn Faisha city-ship Erain is on her way to support our miners and we have already been pushed as far as we will tolerate."
Ian sighed at the stalemate, but Galon had given him an 'out' even if he hadn't meant to do so.
"Very well captains. As you mentioned, this is neutral territory. It is unfortunate that you are havin' difficulties with the Klingons, but as Starfleet doesn't have jurisdiction here, my hands are tied. I will return, Satra and her crew, less the phaser rifle, ta you. I wish you the very best with your 'Klingon' problem."
At this point, Llydin and her crew were escorted to their ship, which then made the short flight to the Everen's shuttlebay. When the cruiser warped out, Ian ordered the Challenger to resume her course to the Iota Thelonis System to locate the still missing USS Burke.
[Commander Nira Said | Jyn Faisha Vessel Satra | Thelonis Sector]
Nira heard Kyan call out to Tiio and saw him beaming her with...well, she recognized the lowest setting on a phaser rifle, or on a phaser in general. Kyan displayed the air of jokingness and pranking. Tiio yelled at him for a moment and then Nira had to step in.
"Whoa, there," Nira said. "Let's tone it down a little, this is a serious matter." She then looked at Kyan and said, her eyes hard, "There are times for jokes, but not in a situation like this, Commander. Please."
She spoke up in an attempt to alleviate feelings, since she had known how sensitive Tiio can get. She nodded in acknowledgement and conferred with Kyan; it was definitely a usable, albeit old, rifle. After a while, Nira felt they did as much as they could.
"If you're finished with the repairs," said Nira, "then we'll leave Ensign Denton to proceed with docking procedures on the ship."
As the rest of the teams departed, Nira was among the last to beam back, and she told Tiio, "Good luck, Tiio. I know you'll get this in excellently."
[Commander Nira Said | Bridge | Deck One | USS Challenger NCC-40117-A]
The moment she returned to the bridge, she watched the progress of the Satra's docking, watched with edge-of-your-seat excitement, and was impressed with how Tiio got the Satra into the shuttlebay. It settled in the middle, as guest shuttles tended to be, and she smiled at how marvelously Tiio got it in.
"Amazing," she said. "Ensign Denton might just be one of the best fliers I have ever seen...but now, for my report, Captain...
"There wasn't much we could see," said Nira as she commenced her report. "The kemocite was definitely in Jyn processing style. Outside of kemocite, we can definitely confirm the smuggling rumor. There wasn't much of that, either...Just some old paper books, a case of Romulan ale and surplus phaser rifle. The latter two are certainly worth bearing in mind."
This led to Ian heading off to discuss with Llydin and the incoming Jyn cruiser captain. As much as Nira wanted to come along, she had a bridge to run when the Captain was away. She did wish she could be able to ask the Jyn about their mines; she was still perplexed at how wanderers can actually mine. She reflected that, once again, in comparing Bedouins, if Bedouins began mining, they'd have to stop wandering. It would have to mean to Nira that technically, they'd settle down. At it would mean that where the Jyn mines, it's their home.
Ian's return roused her from the pondering and eventually, they were moving from the Jyn and to the more Federation-related concern: Finding the Burke.
Nira checked on this particular Burke, remembering the missing starship that she and Ian and the Discovery found in the Devali Nebula. This Burke was different, and it was clearly commissioned in light of the disappearance of the other Burke. Daren class, NCC-3210, with a Miranda-class saucer but an Oberth-class body, and nacelles jutting from the middle of the saucer in a way so the design made it like a Kirk-era Saber-class. A model old enough that it's more suited for moving cargo...and it's probably a better purpose suited so as to keep it out of the mothball fleet or even the fleet museum.
Just as well it was on this side of the Federation rather that near the Cardassian, Breen and Tzenkethi borders, thought Nira to herself, remembering the raids conducted by Melek Nor, including the one Discovery and Challenger stopped. That kind of class would never stand a chance against that ship.
Once again, Nira was pondering, wondering about the age of the ship, and once again, she was roused back to reality from a notification that they had arrived at the Iota Thelonis system, and a moment later...
"Be that as it may, your actions have set in motion events that will have serious, if not catastrophic, for this whole sector. The Klingon ambassador has informed me the Empire is sending reinforcements."
Nira was at a loss. What was going on? Was Kharn riling feelings in this colony? Her mind felt like it was being pulled in two opposite directions by two separate camels. The situation was turning dangerous...something was brewing between the Jyn and the Klingons, but they had to be focused on the Burke...
"Holy Allah....what's going on between these two?" said Nira worriedly.
While T'ealc's assessment that none of the injuries on the two Jyn were serious, they were fairly extensive, especially on the male. However, the dermal regenerator was up to the task and after thirty minutes, the two were healed, their outfits unfortunately, were beyond salvage.
When Zhuk and his team arrived, the Jyn knew resisting was pointless, so they allowed themselves to be searched. They did not, however, assist in the process, so it took the officers some time before they were certain they'd found all the blades the two concealed. Once they were done, the female said with a smirk.
"All things considered sailor, I think, at the very least, you owe me a drink Lieutenant. Captain Llydin of the Jyn Faisha ship Satra. I would like to speak to your Captain."
As Llydin waited for Zhuk's reply, she caught Abas' attention.
"Tell me Crewman, how is my co-pilot, Mythas?"
A jokester, she seemed to be. He internally sighed, as after having to painstakingly revise every nook and corner of her clothing to find the hidden blades, he wasn't in much of a mood to play around. Then again, she wasn't too bad on the eyes, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad as to accept. He offered the rest of the knives he was holding to Crewman Thompson, for safekeeping, before he gave her a smirk and the answer she sought,
"Heh. Allow me to inform Captain Galloway of thy request, Captain Llydin. However, I will be more than happy to invite you for a drink, afterward. If time allows." He let out a soft chuckle, before taking a look over at how Cadet Denton was dealing with removing all weapons. She seemed as if she had about finished, looking confident, if struggling somewhat with the sheer amount of dangerous items. Fortunately, Blackfeather noticed this and moved in to help her carry them somewhere secure.
Zhuk then proceeded to tap on his comm-badge, to reach the Captain,  =/\="Greetings, Captain Galloway. Captain Llydin of the Satra wishes to speak to you if you are able to meet her." =/\=
With the confirmation coming soon after, Zhuk nodded over toward her, "The Captain has agreed to see you. Please, if you are feeling much better, do accompany me," And he proceeded to escort her to the meeting room, remaining outside to keep an eye on her, while also making way for another Captain, Galon of the Everen to come right in. Everen, he had to admit, was quite the pretty name for a ship, he mused. If he had a ship of his own, he surely would like to call it something fancy like that. Another name though, he didn't think that copying it would be a moral thing to do.
Much to his disappointment, however, there was not much in the way of going to the bar for him and Captain Llydin. Instead, he just proceeded to escort her to the Satra. Before they left, he made sure to return all of her weapons to her, being very thorough in returning everything. It would have been nice to keep a knife, he supposed, but ultimately he did not want any trouble, and he had made a promise, after all.
"Safe travels," Was the only thing Zhuk stated as they finally boarded and flew to the larger cruiser. He sighed and glanced over at Cadet Denton, "Well, I believe it is back to work with us. Cadet Denton, excellent job. Though I suspect we may wish to be on our toes. I believe this is far from over..."
The compliment earned a smile from Elva, "Well, thank you Sir! I'll do my best to keep up with the good work."
Zhuk nodded, "That's good to hear. Hm... you know, I believe that there is something more going at hand than just a petty dispute between the Klingons and the Jyn. I have a sensation that if we find the USS Burke, we shalt obtain a large set of missing pieces from this puzzle we are in..."
Elva seemed to think for a moment, before nodding herself, "Yeah... I guess... You really think so, Sir?"
"Indeed. In my time of service, I have determined that usually, things are not what they seem at first glance. Rarely straightforward. But I suppose we shalt see..."
"By the way, Sir..." She leaned in just a little bit further, a mischievous look on her face,"you were serious about accepting her offer?
Zhuk chuckled, though he had to admit that he felt dragged into the spot for a moment,"Why yes, I saw no harm in it. I did wish to obtain some more information about her side of the story, do not get me wrong..."
"Of course~" She commented, perhaps hinting that he knew about his bluff. Zhuk squinted her eyes at her but decided to let it go. This girl was quite adept at pushing buttons, huh?
Nira heard Kyan call out to Tiio and saw him beaming her with...well, she recognized the lowest setting on a phaser rifle, or on a phaser in general. Kyan displayed the air of jokingness and pranking. Tiio yelled at him for a moment and then Nira had to step in.
"Whoa, there," Nira said. "Let's tone it down a little, this is a serious matter." She then looked at Kyan and said, her eyes hard, "There are times for jokes, but not in a situation like this, Commander. Please."
Turning in the seat to look back at the sound of Commander Said's voice, Tiio wore a serious look as she called back, "No worries, Sir. Me and Commander Mackenzie can discuss his 'joking' once the mission is complete and the Jyn are on their way." If Kyan were to glance Tiio's direction, the Security Officer would certainly catch the flash of a confident smirk should their gazes meet. If the Chief liked to play jokes, he certainly had no idea just how growing up as she did in a large family on an isolated ship made one particularly adept at such 'practical' matters.
Quote from: Nira Said on August 28, 2023, 09:20:29 PM
As the rest of the teams departed, Nira was among the last to beam back, and she told Tiio, "Good luck, Tiio. I know you'll get this in excellently."
"Aye, aye, Commander," she replied with a clear air of confidence in her voice. While Nira already had bore witness to Tiio's expertise with piloting, the rest of the crew had yet to have such an experience. Hearing the slightest of sounds as the last of the Challenger crew departed the Satra, the pilot took one last glance around to ensure she was alone before settling in to take full control of this alien vessel.
With her jury-rigged PADD still in one hand, Tiio took an accounting of the controls as she powered up the various systems to prepare the runabout for travel. Having more or less put to memory what each of the controls did, she did her best to wedge her PADD between her thighs before laying both hands on the control console. Sucking in a deep breath through her nostrils, she exhaled it with a slight sigh of excitement at the prospect before her. Still unsure the vessel would hold together, she lowered the face shield of her EV suit helmet and pressurizeded it. Tapping the comms button on her forearm, she called over to the ship:
=/\="Satra to Challenger. This is Ensign Denton. All other Challenger personnel have beamed back. Beginning docking procedures. Ready the shuttlebay for my arrival. Denton Out."=/\=
Ending the connection, Tiio was ready"¦and thoroughly excited at being able to, at least for a few minutes, consider herself 'Captain' of a ship, even if it was no larger than a Danube-Class. It was good that no one could see the grin on her face as she began to quickly slide her fingers over the control console, pushing the Jyn vessel to see what its astrophysical limits were. "Let's do this," she said to herself before firing up all of the systems and sending the ship into motion.
The damaged Jyn vessel, which had been idly floating for quite a few minutes, suddenly leveled out to be equal to the resting Challenger's orientation. Instead of pushing off to make a wide loop to come in towards the rear of the ship, Tiio pushed the power to the Satra's RCS thrusters, spinning the vessel in place to face its nose towards the much larger cruiser. With a flash of light from its tail, the vessel took off, racing towards the Challenger at what seemed to be its max impulse speed.
The Satra's trajectory had it on a collision course with the Challenger, sending warnings blaring through the small bridge from which Tiio was piloting. She wasn't sure if those on the Starfleet ship's Bridge would register the same warnings since such a small vessel would usually just bounce off the powered-up deflector shields, but the pilot didn't care. She was going to get as much enjoyment out of this very short flight as she could. At just the last moment, before the Satra would have smashed into the Challenger's shields, the Jyn vessel tipped and turned sharply, exposing its belly to the cruiser, and causing the two starship's shields to flicker and crackle against each other since being in such close proximity.
All of a sudden, the Satra's control panel flashed bright red as Tiio heard a sudden pop come from behind her. Glancing down at the PADD between her knees as she continued to skim the vessel along the Challenger's shields, the pilot read the translated warning but didn't find it surprising. While the Engineering Repair Teams had done a very good job of stabilizing the ship's systems, the previous damage combined with the strain put on the Jyn ship had caused it to spring a leak, depressurizing the interior compartment. Tiio chuckled to herself before saying to herself, "And some thought I wouldn't need the suit"¦"
As the Satra skidded off the rear curvature of the cruiser's shields, Tiio sent the craft into a spin as she cut off the impulse thrusters, causing the vessel to continue to drift on its original trajectory while turning its nose towards the aft of the Challenger. As soon as she could see the slight glint of the cruiser's shuttle bay in front of her, the pilot activated the impulse engines again, causing the Jyn ship to quickly slow its backward momentum before bolting off in the opposite direction. Like most Starfleet vessels, there was a small spot in the rear shields that was opened to allow the entrance and exit of shuttlecraft, and Tiio had aimed the Satra right for it.
Just as she neared the edge of the rear shields, she saw the flash of the tractor beam powering up, causing her to quickly call over, =/\="Satra to Challenger. Disengage Tractor Beam. No need for it. Denton Out." =/\= Having the requested command acknowledged by whatever Ops Officer was on duty for the shuttle bay tractor beam, Tiio punched her way through the small opening, causing the edges of the small window to flicker against the shields of the Satra. Those watching the approaching vessel would take note that it was coming in a little hot compared to most shuttlecraft.
Just as the Satra broke through the permeable force field serving to allow passage into the shuttle bay, the Jyn ship's nose tipped up as Tiio forced all power to the forward RCS thrusters, quickly bringing the vessel to a halt before she lowered the craft's landing gear and settled the Satra down onto the center of the open shuttle bay floor. Bouncing slightly in the seat as the small craft came to rest, the pilot cut the engines before tapping her comms system, =/\="Denton to Bridge. The Satra has been successfully docked. Denton disembarking craft. Repair team requested. She sprung a minor hull leak on the flight in. Denton out."=/\=
Having completed her mission, Tiio unstrapped herself from the seat and slid out to take a knee and disconnect her jury-rigged translator. Quickly wrapping the cord into a small coil before having to step over to shove it into the small tool kit she'd brought with her that had slid to rest against one of the forward consoles, the pilot swept up the kit and turned on her heel to head for the rear ramp. As the ramp seal broke, a rush of air came in, looking almost like steam, as the pilot's silhouette caught the eyes of the waiting engineers. With a clank as the ramp came to rest on the bay's metal floor, Tiio flipped up her face mask, still grinning, and tipped her chin to the lead engineer, commenting casually, "She's got more power than I thought," before making her way back to the shuttle bay control room to plop down and wait for the next call for her services"¦
"By the by, exemplary work, Crewman," Zhuk made sure to give a passing comment towards the Aenar that had busy at work patching people up. He supposed that some niceness went a long way. But also his similar appearance to Lahr made him curious about him. Later, he would have to ask him if he too was an Andorian like his good old friend.
[Sickbay]
Things were proceeding according to schedule, and that suited Abas just fine. Security disarmed the visitors without incident - with only a few comments out of line that were right up the alley of a less-than-pure sailor. It made him snort a little bit as the woman chided the security officer - or was it flirting? Either way, she had decided to take the direct route, and demanded an audience with the Captain.
He nodded to the voice of the security officer, the voice unfamiliar to him, but then again he hadn't heard everyone before. He'd heard the Catian introduce himself as a Lieutenant Mrekrerhas. In Abas's experience, officers usually appreciated a verbal acknowledgement, so he turned toward where the voice was coming from, setting the tools to the side for the moment. "Thank you, Sir. Welcome to Sickbay."
Speaking verbally was something he still didn't find as tasteful as some others. Aenar rarely spoke aloud when among themselves, preferring to communicate with their natural gifts. But, serving with non-telepaths for so many years had taught him the necessity of a good bedside manner, if preferring brevity.
"Tell me Crewman, how is my co-pilot, Mythas?"
It was then that the Captain of the freighter spoke up. "Your crew is fine, a few plasma burns and the like, but no worse for wear. I'm sure I can speak for the Doctor when I say they'll prescribe a good tailor and to avoid getting in firefights in the future," he responded. Just because he didn't speak much didn't mean he had to lose all sense of humor, right?
A few short minutes later, and the group had left the Sickbay. Abas busied himself with cleaning his station, restocking his gear, and recording the medical data and scans in the ship's computer banks. While they may not have been Federation citizens, a well-annotated medical record was among the most valuable things that one could have. Plus, a bio-signature could be used for so many useful things, from detecting early signs of illness to imposters to beaming someone out of a sticky situation. But, he would have to see what came next.
[USS Challenger-Engineering]
Neva sat at a workstation, wiping her brow and smearing some dirt in the process. The Chief had insisted on a report on the work on the Jyn ship. With a tired sigh, she called on the computer to start the recording.
After Action Report, Ensign Neva Cordon.
"Upon beaming onto the ship, I put PO3 T'roth to work on tackling where the sparking was coming from with Crewmen Nuyen and Danvers.  PO1 Vovraarra went to work on regaining control to Conn and Nav, Crewman Hylax was put on Life Support, I took on the Engineering station. Hylax and Vovraarra had both stations under some control so when Commander Said and her team arrived, no EV suits were needed."
Neva paused the computer to stretch a moment, grabbing her side at the hitch of pain there. Groaning, she considered going to Sickbay after this was done, but dismissed it over being tired. 'I can just put some ice there and be done with it anyways.' she decided silently.
Sitting back down, she continued her report.
"While we got the Jyn ship relatively spaceworthy again, it's recommended that they find a Starbase to make further, more stable repairs. It is also recommended that the entirety of Team Six be commended for their expediency, attention to detail, and competence in completing the tasks for which they were assigned. I look forward to working with them again."
Neva sagged back in her chair as she ended her report. 'Let's hope the Chief likes what I've done. I should talk to Commander Said or someone else of higher rank on how they manage a team. I can use the pointers.'
Once finished, Neva got up and headed for the exit. The Chief had already said she could go once she was done. Peanut butter and banana sandwich and almond milk ho!
She did note how much it stopped by Klingon border planets, but overall, it looked more like a trading route. She took note of the Klingon planets, setting that aside in her mind, remembering Kharn, and then she stood up.
"Thank you, Tiio, it was much appreciated," said Nira. "Okay, you three," she added to Kyan, Jettis and Catalan. "Let's see how much more we can look through in the time we have left."
[ Satra ---> USS Challenger - Bridge ]
Despite their efforts to double check everything, nothing new was found on his next rotation. No outlying crates or other energy signatures caught his interest. Aside from everything floating around from the ship-damage, the most abnormal thing on the ship was the new Ensigns choice of fashion and announcement over comms. After reporting in once again to Nira, the group beamed back to allow the Satra to be docked.
Though the findings of the Kemocite were interesting, it didn't answer many questions. With that, they would have no choice but to release the Jyn. Though the man hadn't gotten much from the Captain, even hearing her speak, he didn't imagine this would be the end of it. After all, they were here to investigate possible Jyn pirates, and here they were facing them down with nothing to show for it.
Returning to the bridge for the remainder of his shift, he reclaimed his console with a thanks to the Lieutenant, and the Challenger resumed on her way. As his gaze fell over the scans that came in during his absence, nothing piqued his interest. Fingers gliding across he screen, he brought up his earlier configuration, which allowed him to both monitor the scans while filtering through them for anything abnormal, and ignoring everything else. They could finally focus on locating the Burke, or so he thought before another hail came to the bridge.
This one, unlike the others wasn't a distress signal or a choppy-interference laden message. Unfortunately, it was from the leader of this system. Sucking in a breath, Jettis immediately began searching through the scans more avidly. The news that the Klingons were sending reinforcements wasn't something he wanted to hear. Though their anger should be directed toward the Jyn this supposed 'violation' of the treaty was sure to instigate some trouble for them. Once the communication was closed, he confirmed Galloway's command, and increased the scan levels a bit so he could search for anything out of the ordinary.
After a long few minutes of nothing, and cranking the scans up further, Jettis once again piped up. "Sir, I found Burke. Her power systems are offline though..." His brow furrowed, letting that announcement sink in before continuing. "The ship is near Ioto Thelonis IX. That's as much as I can pick up about it from this distance, no signs of other ships nearby."
[ Satra ---> USS Challenger - Bridge ]
Despite their efforts to double check everything, nothing new was found on his next rotation. No outlying crates or other energy signatures caught his interest. Aside from everything floating around from the ship-damage, the most abnormal thing on the ship was the new Ensigns choice of fashion and announcement over comms. After reporting in once again to Nira, the group beamed back to allow the Satra to be docked.
[Bridge - USS Challenger]
Ian perked up at Jettis' report. The whole thing between the Klingons and the Jyn, amplified by Governor Kras had left him feeling decidedly conflicted, especially as he technically didn't have the authority to do anything about the situation.
"Excellent Mr Jyur! Helm, take us in, full impulse. Tactical, keep us at yellow alert with shields up. Someone attacked the Burke and I'd nae like us ta follow in her footsteps. Mister MacKenzie, I want three security teams ready ta beam over as soon as we're in transporter range."
He then tapped his combadge.
=/\= "Engineerin' and medical, stand by with away teams for rescue and recovery." =/\=
Aarwendil Cheizex
[USS Challenger-A / Bridge]
Even if he was gathering information about Klingons, Aarwendil was still paying attention to what was happening around him at the bridge. He heard the Captain ask Lieutenant Jyur to run a scan to search for the Burke, after they received a message from a Klingon Governor saying that they had violated a treaty.
This made the situation worse than the young Betazoid had expected. At first, he thought that maybe there was going to be a small skirmish with the Klingons. However, now it seemed that they were going to start a full war. THis would be too much action for only his second mission.
The Ensign could already see how his friends from the Academy would react when they heard that he was in the ship that nearly caused a war between the Klingons and the Federation.
"What was that for?!" she yelled, clearly offended, but only momentarily so as she took note of the Commander's boyish face and quickly remembered Elva telling her about how the Chief had a penchant for immature yet harmless behavior.
"If you want to play games, Commander, we should meet in the holodeck sometime for hand-to-hand practice. I'm sure my sister Cadet Denton has told you of our family's penchant for such things."
Kyan smiled at the response from Denton. When the two had come aboard, Elva had told him about her sister, the pilot with the stick up her arse. In his own experience, that was a rarity. Usually it was the Security types who began life as a wanna be hardass. Kyan had seen plenty of them come through. Most ended up either dead or wearing red. But pilots? They were usually relaxed.
Apparently Ensign Dention was the exception to that rule, just as her sister was in reverse. Tiio's response was almost exactly what the cadet had said it would be, right down to the challenge to a hand to hand session on the holodeck.
Finally, Kyan flashed a bemused grin. Her self-assuredness was on brand for a pilot. Although it was plain to see that she took things, herself included, way too seriously. "Sure and yer as daft as a Pakled if ye think I'm after rolling around with yer baby grup arse in the holodeck. If it's a proper fight yer after though....."
"Whoa, there," Nira said. "Let's tone it down a little, this is a serious matter." She then looked at Kyan and said, her eyes hard, "There are times for jokes, but not in a situation like this, Commander. Please."
She spoke up in an attempt to alleviate feelings, since she had known how sensitive Tiio can get. She nodded in acknowledgement and conferred with Kyan; it was definitely a usable, albeit old, rifle. After a while, Nira felt they did as much as they could.
"If you're finished with the repairs," said Nira, "then we'll leave Ensign Denton to proceed with docking procedures on the ship."
"No worries, Sir. Me and Commander Mackenzie can discuss his 'joking' once the mission is complete and the Jyn are on their way." If Kyan were to glance Tiio's direction, the Security Officer would certainly catch the flash of a confident smirk should their gazes meet.
Kyan did look her way when she mentioned him. Her smirk was one that he'd seen countless times before. She knew that she was gonna throw him around and make him realize the error of his ways. Of course if she'd been around  and hundred and thirty years ago, she'd have been right. He hadn't been much of a fighter back then, nor for a long while afterwards.
Back in those days Kyan had relied on cleverness or the proximity of his caretakers to protect him against the results of his mischief. But those days were long gone. Of course he'd been on the losing end of fights even recently. Skill and cleverness sometimes gave way to physics after all, but not often.
"Dinnae crash the ship." he chirped, offering her a cheeky smile. "Its sad I'd be if we couldn't have that discussion after we're done here."
Kyan nodded. "Aye boss. I'll go get'em ready."
Of course he'd be taking Zhuk, and probably Koroz too. And since it wasn't a sure bet that there'd be trouble... he figured Eva Dentom could do with some wet feet herself. He tapped his com badge. =/\= Mackenzie tae Mrekrerhas and Cadet Denton. Meet me in the armory. =/\=
With that he turned over the tactical console and made for the lift.
