[Outpost Solaere, Deck XIV, CMO Office]

Taja looked up from her terminal to see the first arrival of the new medical staff, Nurse Brooks. Which was good because the doctor had only just finished reading her personnel file. With a warm Risan smile, the doctor waved the ensign into the office and offered her a seat.

"Nurse Brooks. Welcome aboard Outpost Solaere. Apologies for the state of the place, lots of work still to do. Grab a seat, can I get you a drink?"

Then the Yeoman's message popped up on her screen about another new arrival waiting to see her. It was a perfect opportunity to talk to both new arrivals together as a team. "Come in, take a seat." Now the opportunity to play with her mini office replicator had doubled.

Feeva nodded, and entered quietly, taking a seat primly near the edge of the chair.

"Thank you," she said. "I am Counselor Feeva Drylo," she said. "Is it always this crazy?" She asked. She turned to other woman. "Hello! Nice to meet you. Ensign Feeva Drylo," she said.

Mikayla was relieved to find the Chief Medical Officer so friendly like upon their first meeting. The brunette nodded at the invitation to come in, then she did so taking one of the two chairs in front of the CMO's desk; crossing her feet at the ankles and keeping a relaxed yet professional posture while sitting back.

"Yes, thank you. I would love a coffee, ma'am, with a splash of cream if it isn't too much trouble." she answered with appreciative eyes, then her green gaze went to the doorway as another crew member was seemingly joining them; another new face to remember.

"Ensign Mikayla Brooks... I'm in nursing. Nice to meet you as well, Counselor," she smiled back.

[Deck 14 - Hallway]

Steve was lost. He hadn't yet downloaded the station maps into to his systems yet, and somewhere in between his jaunt down to the promenade to people-watch, a missed turbolift exit, and the sometimes twisting passageways of the station hallways, he had gotten seriously turned around and was now wandering until he found somewhere familiar again.

Ordinarily, being a photonic being, Steve would just hop through the computer systems to go back home, but given that the computers were really outdated and in the process of being upgraded right now, he couldn't go back that way just yet, so he wandered. Maybe he'd find someone who could help him find his way to his human? She might be busy though...

Apparently, he was in the medical wing of the station, given the smell of anesthetics, and all the other clean smells that one would note from a medical place. Maybe he would be able to make himself helpful! Either that, or he would be shooed out. Either was possible. He guessed he'd find out.

Hopping into the sickbay, he noticed a group of lady humans talking to each other. It seemed like one of them was the counselor! Maybe he could help her? He gave a little chirp in greeting, noting his little therapy vest he had on.

We're in Starfleet here. Weird is part of the job description.

Danjar-Torra Addams

Lieutenant Danjar-Torra Addams
[Outpost Solaere - Deck One - Starbase Operations >>  Deck Ten -  Promenade] (earlier that morning)

Given the state of disrepair and disuse of the outpost, it was no surprise to the quiet Grazerite that one of her key duties was to oversee the restocking of the station's cargo bay with emergency supplies. There were just some things that were more reasonable to store as bulk cargo than to replicate at the time they were needed.  Emergency supplies and non-perishable medications were two such things.  It did no good wasting time and energy replicating hundreds of emergency blankets and or hyposprays during an emergency when the energy and replicator resources at the time could be better used.

She organized this for the first part of her day, then it was time for lunch. She called for a junior Ops officer to come up to the Bridge and relieve her for an hour.  While she could have gone to the Crew Lounge to have a salad with some lovely quinoa grains replicated, Torra having heard about a new establishment on the promenade decided to check it out

"Lieutenant Commander, I'm heading out for my lunch break." she announced to the Duty officer when her relief arrived.   She took the turbolift down to the Deck 10 Promenade.

At first glance, Nils' Diner looked to be a 'greasy spoon' with the front half of the restaurant holding 20 small tables -none matching in size or design- with seating anywhere between 2 to 8 people depending on the size of the table.  The back half of the diner was tarped off with a sign reading 'Under Construction' behind which the odd sound of hammering could be heard.

Torra's order of garden salad with a 7 grain topping however was both quick to be made and extremely delicious.   Ignoring the decor, the ambience of the diner was very warm and friendly; Torra found herself listening in fascination as Nils Johansen - the owner and cook, regaled her and other patrons of the restaurant with some rather outlandish tales he'd lived through, in between cooking up food orders in the restaurant's visible kitchen.

It was with regret that she had to leave near the end of her lunch break.  Torra was waiting by the turbolift to return to duty when she heard her name called by someone passing nearby.

"Torra!" she called. "It's so great to be with you!"

"Kinley and I are getting to know the layout of the station," she said. "You can come along if you'd like to."

Torra smiled warmly towards her very close friend.  Her eyes then turned to Station's Commander.  Torra dipped her head in polite greeting.  "Commander Garrison."  She mulled over the offer to join along.   She did have work to do, but touring with the Command Team would give her a better perspective of what needs they saw.

After a moment Torra nodded her acceptance.  "Thank you, I think I would enjoy that.  Let me just contact, Lieutenant Commander Rabolon to inform him that I won't be returning to the bridge."

She stepped away briefly to make that call and then contacted another Ops officer to replace her for potentially the rest of her shift.  If one of her staff needed her, they knew to reach out to her via her comm badge.

She joined back up with Nira and Commander Garrison a few minutes later and noted another had just joined the pair.  A blonde pregnant woman that seemed very familiar to the Grazerite.  However, she couldn't quite place from where she'd seen her before, then she heard the introduction.

Taja replicated the nurse and counsellor a caffeinated beverage each and passed it over to them, the counsellor hadn't said if she wanted a drink or not yet but it was good manners to offer one anyways. Whilst Mikayla was obviously an earthling, Feeva was unmistakably a Betazoid with those black eyeballs, though she had never seen one with such red hair. The counsellor appeared to be similar in age to Taja herself, whilst Mikayla had a few years left to catch up to them.

Taja leaned back in her seat and smiled at the two women opposite her, this had the makings of a great team, she could tell - Risans had a way of knowing these things. "Things will be hectic for a while, still a lot of upgrades to carry out but we have all the essentials here. So I know both of you via the personnel files, but you may not know me. I am Dr Grippen and I've been assigned to this station as its Chief Medical Officer.  I practiced medicine on Risa for many years before joining Starfleet and transferred here from the Challenger, my primary specialty is in Emergency Medicine."

The Risan took a long sip of her 'Go-Juice' before continuing. "I'm sure you'll have read what our mission goals will be here, we'll primarily be dealing with Earthlings and Romulans as our patients. It may be worth brushing up on Romulan physiology and psychiatrics whenever you get the chance. I have an open door policy, you can both come to me at anytime. We're a team here. [Outpost  Solare - Promenade]

Jamil had finished placing his belongings in the crew quarters, which were a bit bigger than the crew quarters on the Challenger. This was not a science station nor a Science Vessel.  Why could Starfleet place him on a Science or a Medical vessel?

However, they were way out in the space boon area, near the Romulan Neutral Zone, where they were assisting the refugees of Romulans. The New Jericho Colonies were down on Ciden IV. He was hoping that he would be able to make many trips to science excavation. That was crying for him to go to explore.

The Ensign moved down to the Promenade when he saw a Romulan setting an eating establishment. Jamil moved over to assist. "œAllow me to assist. You own this establishment?" He said, lifting a crate for the new owner of unknown-name restaurant.

"œYes," the owner said.

"œI am looking forward to seeing what you are going to serve. You see, I love to cook and prepare dishes. I wonder if we can share recipes?" Jamil asked. His eyebrow arched.

"œDepends how well we get together, but I won't decline all the help you can assist," the owner said.

Way off in Space.

Don was sad he had missed a call with his wife. However, he had contacted one of the crew on Solaere Outpost and asked if they could rearrange a red flower on Torra's door. They said they do it. Don had no notes, so I figured it would be fun. He smiled to himself on that gesture. Long-distance relationships were a pain, but he hoped his son would arrive there soon.

Recoiling slightly at the abruptness of the question, Lindsey looked more intently at the security officer's face.
That is a very direct and borderline incriminating question.  Here we sit on the border of Romulan space, an area with known history and several billion gigatons of unplotted flying planet fragments - and you ask me about Pirates and smugglers..
She pauses to watch a few 'interesting' individuals from a less common species walk past.
If you are looking to hire someone to go searching and report information - I'm available, my ship is utterly trashed and I'm skint - so I cant afford to fix her.  Got any spare runabouts?  She winks, cheekily

Nira Said

[Commander Nira Said | Promenade | Deck Ten | Outpost Solaere]

"Anyway, Torra, Kinley and I are heading downward," Nira said to Torra. "We'll be seeing the most of the interior this way."

[Commander Nira Said | Overlook | Hangar Module | Between Decks 17 and 18 | Outpost Solaere]

The tour the commanding officers took gradually brought them downward and into the hangar module. Nira was amazed at what she saw. It was a space big enough for a small starship. The module also included an overlook, which usually would've been a restaurant, but that particular restaurant was, by and large, deserted. No effort was made to set up shop, let alone renovate. For the time being, the overlook was just an ordinary overlook, a place where people seated can look down at the space and even get a look at admiration at the docked starship, like it was a piece of background. Surrounding the overlook was a circular walkway with bridges leading to the other docking rings. Two other walkways were extended upward; Nira realized they were airlock egress paths. When a starship was docked, they typically connected to the airlocks, similar to ancient airports, with the gangways connecting to planes; Nira knew about planes easily enough, anybody would when they served with Ian Galloway.

Nira had seen such restaurants before in bigger starships, particularly Spacedocks. Additionally, it was clear the walkways set up above served as a hub connecting the docking rings to the rest of the station. She had just been about to say something to Torra and Kinley when Ops called.

"Ops to Commanders Garrison and Said," called Savar from his position in Ops. "We just received word from the administrators of New Jericho. They're wishing to come aboard to meet you."

"Well," said Nira to Torra. I guess the administrators are anxious to meet us. To coin an old saying from Earth, 'If Mohammed won't go the the Mountain, the Mountain will come to Mohammed.'"

Moments later, the colonial administrators arrived, emerging from a walkway leading from one of the docking rings. Nira remembered who they were from reading the personnel files. Administrator Antoine Roshard, colonial leader, and his lower fellows, prominently Sub-Administrators Richard Teasdale, Enrique Xolo and Sot, the oldest of the administrators and also a Vulcan.

"Good to meet you, Administrators,"
Nira said.

"Glad to meet you ladies," Roshard said smoothly. "These are my fellow administrators, Teasdale, Xolo and Sot. We wanted to brief you about the planet."

"Well, we would've had information from Starfleet Command," said Nira, "but it's always good to hear things from the perspective of the locals."

She turned to make one last look at the view below from the Overlook. It was not lost on one of the administrators.

"It's certainly a good view when a ship is docked there, Commander,"
said Sot.

"Ah. You would've seen starships docked here, haven't you?" asked Nira.

"Since I was just a boy. I was born in New Jericho; my parents were among the first Vulcan colonists," Sot replied. "The station was barely new when I was born. We mostly played hosts to small ships. Daedelus-classes, and then Oberth-classes. Once in a while, a Miranda variant that was small enough to dock here."

"Have any bigger ships docked here?"
asked Nira.

"Oh, it's possible to have slightly bigger ships here,"
said Sot. "Thing is, they'd be partially in, they'd stick out, as Roshard is fond of saying, like a fat stuffed bear stuck in a rabbit hole. We had a Defiant class dock here, the last ship before the station was abandoned."

"Save the story for later, Sot," drawled Xolo with a gruff Central American drawl.

Nira raised an eyebrow as they proceeded to escort the administrators to their conference room.

She first turned to Dersch's wife and gave a slight apologetic nod at having to leave.  "It was nice to finally meet you."

Torra then followed the two Commanders, a few feet behind as she quietly called up to the Bridge to inform the junior Operations officer that had relieved her for lunch that she would be longer than anticipated and to remain on the bridge until her return.

Once that was dealt with, Torra caught up with the two Commanders and followed a pace behind; not because she felt less than either of the two Commanders, but rather because walking three abreast in the halls took a lot of space and having already explored the majority of the station the past couple days, Torra had already seen most things.  That and she was taller so could see over their heads easier.

Kinley smiled to Olivia. "œI have heard so much about you! And congratulations on your new little one. "œ she said, giving a smile to her. She nodded to Torra in acknowledgement. There was still a lot of ground she had to regain in that relationship, but who knew how long that might be?

Unfortunately, Station business called. "œSounds like we're going to meet up with some folks. Meet back with you guys sometime? I hear Nils' has some pretty good Swedish meatballs. Maybe we could hang out after the shakedown? We'll be having one later today.  Also, would you let me know if you guys see a velociraptor about? I haven't seen Steve in a while,  and I really hope he hasn't gotten in trouble with the computer system rebooting . " She  said as she excused herself.

Kinley straightened herself and gathered her thoughts when the administrators came to visit. "œPleased to meet you. "œ she said, listening to the administrator talk about the various different ships that have came through the system. "œGood to know, it's a bit out of the way, but it seems like we may be able to get some bigger ships in the area soon. "œ she said, trying to figure out his angle.

As Torra went through what she knew about JB, It wasn't all that surprising, JB made friends wherever  he went. "That's Good, Nothing bad comes from him" Then Kinley spoke. Duty Calls "It was nice to meet you too, And Thank you, I have yet to check with the Nurse here for a 6 month check up up..And that is also a reminder, Well its nice to meet you Olivia then turned and went back to sit with Katie who had been watching both her parents. But went back to eating a Mozzarella stick.

You'll have to excuse me, i've been on my own for far too long (at sublight) and I get a bit confrontational as a result

Well, Didn't think about that. JB watched her look at other passersby as she started again. Seems like she would be a good asset...Needs a ship? I got one.. JB looked to her. "Okay, Lets make a deal, I own a own Miranda class Ship, Its been retrofitted already for cargo, But has the state of the art weapons, Would you like to have it? All I want in return is you become my little contact within the world of lets just say Non-Rule Followers...What do you say?"

An eyebrow shot up so fast that it threatened to break orbit
That's an interesting offer to someone that you've just met and don't know, But let us, for the sake of amusement, enter into negations.
She furrowed her forehead as she tried to bring the Miranda specs to mind
about 170 meters, quite an old design, but rugged.  If you've given her teeth then I'm guessing on of the later design variants with the bit over the top (whatever they call it) - but that of course comes at an increased crew cost.  I'd need to have a look over the papers and do an inspection.
She counted the provisos on her fingers as she spoke. It was a mad offer, but every now and again they could be genuine.
I'm not going to commit either way till I've checked everything.  Gift horses are all very well, but when there's only 30mm between you and the cold death of space - it's okay to check the teeth.  What's her name?
The rest of the promenade had faded into the background at this point.  This was interesting and a good stretch of the old grey matter

"Well So, Sounds like a half-way done deal, I will have the ship on its way as soon as possible, It is under the name of USS Washington, NCC-31060, It will be here as soon as possible, is there anything else?" JB waited for her to respond. It seems like this new job comes with its advantages. And With him being the Deputy Sec/Tac Officer here on the station, He was gonna need all the contacts he could get.

Always quick with an answer, she did not disappoint.
Very first thing you're gonna do, if you really want her to be used for anything below the radar?  Change the name, and get rid of any federation markings on the hull before she makes dock.  we can invent a back story later, but no smuggler or owt else is going to go near it if it smells like a trap.
She paused for a moment as another idea rose up
Course you've got a couple of other options as well, we can make it look like you yourself are a ner-do-well, but thats a hard act to play with out practice (that an you only get to break cover once)
Tother option you've got is to somehow appear gullible as a tribble - and 'lose' her to me at a gambling table.

she paused for breath before continuing
have a think, let me know.  I'll be around somewhere.  If you're good at your job - you'll work out where I rent.  If not... well..  She leaves the accusation hanging
