Lahr shook his head at the Commander... Captain's comment.  "It was his hand.. he'll be fine for walking."

Not to mention Medical personnel were miracle workers... if they could fix his legs -nearly blown off  - then a few broken hand bones should be nothing.

Lahr looked to the older woman in the teal uniform as she introduced herself - grateful to her for doing so ... it meant he didn't have to ask for his notes.   That she was here to evaluate crew was a bit concerning... the teal uniform suggested then that she was a shrink.   The fact that she was here suggested that she'd been called for long before his own 'issues' began but Lahr couldn't help but think the thought that she was there to specifically assess him.  His antenna twitched.

Wait.. was she looking at him and making notes?  That couldn't be good.

Lahr gave the woman, Dr. Eastman, a smile and bobbed his head in hello.  If she was gonna look at him he might as well make it worth her while.  "You pissed off your boss too huh?" he remarked and tapped the paper pad in front of him while the Captain called for the Sciences rep.

[Innominatum Outpost - Conference Room]

When she entered the conference room, there were already several people present. It felt strange to be here. After all, she was just a crewman. No, that was wrong, she was a Petty Officer now. Still, she was no officer. But as it seemed, she was the only scientist from the challenger currently available. When Lyra saw Ruth she approached her.

"Sorry I'm late...captain." she hesitated only for a split second, but for a moment there she wanted to call her by her old rank. She was the captain now.
"I was only notified a few minutes ago that I am to attend here. I was a little surprised as I am quite far down the food chain." she smiled. Then she hurried to get a seat so she wouldn't hold up everyone any longer.

Lizzie looked up as Lyra arrived. By her count, that made a representative from all the departments.

"I think that is everybody Captain." She said to Ruth in a formal tone, befitting the circumstances.

Judy looked up at the Andorian's question. An interesting one, and one which probably explained his presence.

"Oh, no. Not at all," she answered. "I prefer to keep handwritten notes - I'm too old to keep everything in my head."

As a young woman, Judy could remember volumes of information with ease. She even retained some of it decades on - that was why she could play dozens of 20th-century songs by heart, or quote noted economists on cue. However, with her age, her memory wasn't as good. Such was life on the cusp of 60.

Lizzie looked up as Lyra arrived. By her count, that made a representative from all the departments.

"I think that is everybody Captain." She said to Ruth in a formal tone, befitting the circumstances.

"Yes, yes I think so... well, I guess time to call this meeting to order."  The Captain cleared her throat and waited for everyone to settle down.

"Right I think mostly everyone knows each other, our two new arrivals, so far... more on that in a moment, are Lt. Sukal who will temporarily be taking over from Ensign Oftex in Ops for the 2 months leave that Oftex has to attend his wedding.  After Oftex's leave it is still somewhat vague as to if he is taking a job closer to home or returning.  We shall see, he would be a sorry miss I suspect in the Operations department."  Ruth looked pointedly at Lahr, she'd heard rumours about the Chief busting a move on the Bridge, but decided to turn a blind eye.  They were docked and they'd been professional enough when the work needed to be done.

"And the other new face is the very welcome Doctor Eastman or Judy as she has allowed us to call her.  I hope you will all make her welcome.  Now to business."

The Captain tapped on her PADD, pulling up her notes.

"We are in the next 48hours expecting the arrival of Rear Admiral d'Arth and the USS Redav.  He is escorting 4 cadets here for training.  While I'm rather unhappy about the fact that there are young people being brought across to a war zone, I'm happy to have a hand in their training.  They will be in the Engineering, Medical, Flight and Operations departments. Mr. Lek, Doctor, Chief Dradis and Lt. Sukal they will report to you.  Petty Officer Lyra, Dr. Vaughan and I thought it might be a good idea for you to act as a sort of 'Den Mother' to our visiting cadets as they aren't here on permanent assignment, merely 6 months or so, and you will be keeping an eye on social aspects of their time on the outpost and Challenger.  Specifically trying to keep them from spending too long in the Pickled Packled, albeit the Engineering Cadet is cousin to Pickle the owner."

She took a swig of coffee and smiled at the next order of the day.

"I also have the pleasure of welcoming my twin sisters to spend their vacation here before attending the Academy they are also coming with Admiral d'Arth.  Since they are hoping to be in the Science in the case of Arya, and Tactical for Katya they will be shadowing those departments and trying not to be too much of a nuisance. If they are send them straight to me."

She rolled her neck and grimaced as it audibly clunked.

"Now, ideally I want the Challenger fully operational within 14 days... how realistic is that looking for your departments, or Mr. Lek do you want to take point on that since it's you and Ops that are mostly working jointly on that and then we'll go around and take notes on anything our colleagues think still needs addressing and any other business you'd all like brought up. And questions.  Mr. Lek the floor is yours."

"If I were human I believe my response would be "go to hell." If I were human."

With the last of the arrivals present in the Conference Room; Sukal decided it was time to take a seat at the round table which would serve for the business at hand.  It was time to get down to business, and Sukal was quite curious as to what would be coming.  He sat back a bit relaxed, but his eyes took in everyone in the room with more than just a casual interest.  There was Dr. Eastman taking notes on paper, an Andorian from Ops present as well, Lizzie and Mondo - both of whom he knew; though he had only just met Mondo while having to deal with the former Praetor.  There was also a Ferengie with the rank of Lieutenant present which he believed must be the starship's Chief Engineer.  He would have to introduce himself most definitely to this person as Ops and Engineering tended to work often together. A Petty Officer from the Science Division had only just arrived complete with apologies, and a person in red he figured was from Flight Control.

Sukal fixed his gaze upon Lieutenant Lek - the Ferengie that he had properly deduced was the Chief Engineer.  Though he had not been told in so many words - for the absence of Oftex - Sukal would be the temporary Department Head.  It was a bit unexpected, but nothing he hadn't done before in his career.  Now, it was time to see what condition the ship was in, and if two weeks was going to be enough.  He was curious about the arrival of the USS REDAV, but he would look more into that later.  Further, his curiosity extended to the condition of the outpost they were even now on.  What repairs and needs to this place have?

The Andorian looked at the human woman for a moment like as if she might be pulling his antenna.    Then after a moment he gave a shrug. "I'd have thought typing would be easier especially as one got older... maybe not."

His attention then turned towards the head of the table as it seemed that the Acting Captain was about to begin.  He shook out his pen hand and is antenna swiveled towards Ruth attentively.   Yeah, this was meant as a punishment but hey it would be his first time ever sitting in on a senior officer meeting.   It had his attention.

As the Captain spoke Lahr took what he hoped were the key pieces of info.  He didn't know 'short-hand' so the best he could do was take note of the topics discussed, note any resolutions put forward or actions needed to be done.

Lahr with his head down focused on his note-taking, missed the significant look the Captains shot his way though there was a slight down turn of his lips at the news that, yeah, the Vulcan was taking over.  There went the opportunity for more bridge parties.

[The Pickled Pakled - Innominatum Base]
[As NPCs Veronique and Pema]

- Veronique - Pema

Two beautiful women walked into the Pickled Pakled giggling like any other humans taking a break from travelling and enjoying an outposts things to do.  There wasn't the array of stuff that was on a larger base like Katra or Columbus, but it was somewhere to take a break, stock up on supplies and... conduct business.

"Two glasses of Tarin juice, please!" Veronique ordered  "We'll have them in that booth please." she indicated with her melted chocolate coloured hand.

Veronique was from an area formerly known as Nigeria on Earth, her rich skin tone and flawless skin made her turn heads wherever she went. Some might say in her line of work this wasn't desirable, but then it was also a distraction... and that made it useful.

Her companion was more Asian in looks coming from Bhutan, and Pema too was very pretty dressed in silk and possessing the elegance and grace one might expect of a Ming Dynasty concubine. Her delicate features perfectly contrasted with those of her companion, they looked like they had stepped right out of a fashion magazine.

They took their seats in the in booth Veronique indicated at the back of the bar, which was relatively quiet for that time of day, but waited until the waiter had brought over their drinks before they started conversing.

"So how do we get them back?" Pema hissed her face looking now more like a cobra than the sweet goddess of a moment ago.

"Search me!" Veronique replied, "We probably need to make friends with a sexy Scientist and get them lovesick over us and then get them to show us the pretty flowers!"

"Are we sure they've arrived yet?" Pema asked the frown reaching her eyes.

"They haven't, far as I know they're coming in on the USS Redav, but I overheard someone saying that ship is due to be here in about 2 days because the Commanding Officer of that big ship out there... some kids she is related to... something anyhow the ship, with our plants on it, is due in about 2 days, in the meantime we sell our 'cosmetics' and 'jewels' to anyone that wants them, and then when we get back the goods we can start raking in the money.  Lilith must not be disappointed."

"Easy for you to say, Veri..." Pema answered, "But she'll come down heavy on me first if we don't retrieve them, and gods forbid that any Ferengi gets their hands on the goods first.  We have a few, so we can get people interested, then hopefully we get the consignment and we can go wholesale.  Oh this is going to be fun, but our bonus will be more fun!"

The girls sipped their drinks in silence for a moment.  "First we need to make a plan.  Do we try to persuade Security to let us through to the Redav and get them there, or in cargo hold before Sciences pick them up, or do we let them go thru to Sciences as normal and then get them?"

"I suppose it depends how they'd move them, if they beam them straight from cargo hold to the Science labs, then we have to find a Scientist to seduce and show us the pretty flowers.  Who's daft idea was it to do it this way?"  Pema cursed.

"Don't ask me, don't question Lilith's methods..." and "DON'T GET CAUGHT!" they both chanted.

"If we're going for Science then we either need to keep an eye out for a Scientist, or manage somehow to replicate a uniform.  Let's just scout out the territory until the shipment comes in, and we can make a plan from there."

"I can't wait until they're seeing dragons.  That bit is fun!" Veronique said with a wink.

"If I were human I believe my response would be "go to hell." If I were human."

Lek eyed the older Hyoomon feemale with suspicion when she was introduced and was even more suspicious about her reasons for being here.

"Evaluate us? Evaluate us for what and why?"

Lek was so busy trying to puzzle that question out, he almost missed the captain's status report question.

"Ma'am the Challenger is fully operational in all major systems. The previous commander had a habit of demanding both warp cores be online at the same time for extra power. Something the upgrade to Trailblazer-Class was never meant to do. We came up with a workaround that limit, but the resultant surge of power is too much for the plasma and EPS conduits to handle. This results in overloads to the ODN network. Until someone uses a console or piece of equipment damaged by these overloads, they are undetectable. You are aware of the two stations on the bridge that recently malfunctioned. That is the only residual issue from the battle. These repairs are simple once reported, but as stated previously, will remain undetectable until reported."

Mondo'li Nari

Innominatum Outpost - Conference Room

Mondo sat back down, noting that the Doctor did not seem to feel the same surge of recognition and comeraderie that he did.  Perhaps the difficult times during that mission were something she would prefer to forget.  Or perhaps, because she was here to evaluate everyone, she did not want to appear too familiar.

When the Ferengi Chief Engineer described the state of the ship, Mondo took note of the possibility of faulty consoles on his PADD.  Then a thought occurred to him.

"Our PADDs can be used as emergency systems interfaces," the Hupyrian commented, "perhaps every crewmember can be encouraged to keep one on-hand in case of a console failure.  Then they could continue to operate their station function via wireless computer interface until a repair or replacement console can be facilitated."

Sukal listened to the report given by Lieutenant Lek, and the suggestion given from Mondo.  It seemed the CHALLENGER-A was in good shape other than the minor problems which could not immediately be discovered.  Such a strange phenomenon was apparently the result of both warp cores being online at the same time - which was not something this new class of starship was ready for.  As the Ops Chief, even if temporarily, he needed to help Engineering nail this problem down.  Even with the ability to use the PADDs for aid; it was still less efficient than the actual station being used.  And, while the time delay might not get anyone hurt in a crisis - there was no sense in taking chances.

"Lieutenant Lek, Ops stands ready to assist your personnel in tracking down these issues.   While it seems they are minor and not immediately something we can find; my people will help any way you need.  Perhaps you and I can work together to come up with some plans on taking care of this at your convenience," Sukal suggested to the Engineering Chief.  "Besides, I would love to understand more about this new class.  She was only just coming out when I was entering retirement," he added confessing his desire to brush up on the ship's specs and abilities.

Judy continued to take notes and make assessments.

The Ferengi, Lek, didn't seem to be very trusting of her. That was all to be expected. However much of a granny vibe the bifocals and wrinkles projected, she was still here on an intimidating mission.
She also noted his inclination to show off his engineering know-how. Many engineers were fond of speaking technobabble, so that wasn't any major concern, but she noted it.

The ingenuity of Mondo, the Hupyrian, whom she did recall from last summer, wasn't lost on her either. He seemed to be very eager to show his usefulness, though he didn't give much oof a ladder-climbing vibe. No ladder-climber would go enlisted, anyway.

However, the Andorian was still on the psychologist's mind. He was an odd one, a goofball of sorts, she presumed. He reminded her of her son Lawrence.

All of this the shrink noted, in meticulous Hebrew notes.

[Conference Room - Innominatum Station]

Lek faced yet another new person and was saddened to see so many changes. Not exactly a surprise given the turmoil, no chaos, of this whole thing with Leyton, but still sad to see. At least this Vulcan seemed accommodating.

"Certainly Lieutenant. I'm more than willing to team up with Ops to trace these problems down. As we are still docked at the station, demands on engineering are low. It will be a slow process though, no way around that I'm afraid.

"And once we are done here, I will be happy to show you around the old girl and let you see what the yard, and my team have done with her."

[Conference Room - Innominatum Station]

[Conference Room- Innominatum Outpost]

"Hmm good to know we are operational in major functions, and for the information on the warp cores.  I'm not an Engineer but I know enough that it wouldn't be advisable and can see where the residual problems would spring up.  And you say there's no way to know until the... whatever... fails, does so Mr. Lek?" the Captain asked.  "I'd rather have those problems ironed out rather than have something fail in the middle of a firefight.  If you can come up with an idea - slightly crazy or not, we've had evidence of your ideas working!" she said with a grin, "I'm all ears.  In the meantime, yes Mr. Nari, good idea with the PADDs, it's a work around if nothing else."

Ruth paused.  "How about the repairs to the Outpost, are we on schedule there?  I'm hoping that we can leave and take Praetor Aedille home now that her diplomatic appeal for help has been granted, we are also waiting on a consignment of materials for her and also, take note Lyra, some plants for the Botanics Lab on the Challenger.  I'm unsure as to the status on repairs to the base, I have sent messages to the Base Engineering team but as yet have had no response.  A word from you there perhaps Mr. Lek.  Mr. Nari, I'd like you to relay to Lt. Taray that we need to ensure that the Security and Tactical systems on the base are up to snuff, and that both Outpost and Challenger are fully ordinanced. We have supplies of all descriptions coming in over the next few days.  Make sure that Customs are observed and seen to be doing thorough checks.  We've been hearing rumours about illegal drug smuggling in this area.  This would be a prime place for them to do business in."

She looked around the room and said "I want all departments fit to be left here on the outpost, and I want everything that can be fixed ready to move out in two weeks... we need to wait that long for some shipments of supplies unfortunately, it's taking time for things to get through the supply lines as Leyton has been breaking though." she added with a grim look.  "But we need to get back out there soon. We have orders to take the Praetor back, Lady Aedile that is, and then patrol.  We need to clamp down on Leyton and his rebels and retake this sector."

"In the meantime yes, please gentlemen, work together.  It pleases me to see voluntary interaction between departments, maybe with your heads and teams working together we can have this all done quicker and I can let the crew have some down time before we head out again. "

"If I were human I believe my response would be "go to hell." If I were human."
