[Inside the Mjolnir - Shuttlebay 1 - USS Challenger]

"Mr Litt, once we have Crewman Gohun on board, assuming he is coming please clear with the ship and station and lay in a course for DS9." Ruth said, already wishing that she was sitting back in her Ready Room.  She felt sick to the stomach worrying about leaving Sukal with the conference and everything to do, not because she didn't trust him, far from it.  More she knew what it was like being out here on your own, and in charge, and it wasn't nice not having that other person there to back you up.

"Aye Ma'am... Everything is okay... Setting course to DS9..." Richard was very excited by flying again, it looked like a decade since the last time he was in the Helm flying and fighting the enemies. But now he had that chance again.
Quote from: Zavrol Gohun on August 28, 2019, 10:39:10 PM

Cadet Gohun being only a Cadet really did not know what was going on at Deep Space nine and really only visited the place once or twice in the past and really did not want to go back. At the same time, he wondered how Odo was doing. It was at this moment he realized that he was at the Armory turning in the extra phaser he took out. With that, he went to his quarters and remembered that nothing had been unpacked because nothing was unpacked from his move. Fortunately, he had some moves of his own.
"Computer replicate an away bad with a week worth of unforms."
At that point, he decided to take the credit stick and withdraw more money from his other accounts with the anticipation of losing it at the Dabo table. At the very least he could have fun with hookers and dabu.
With that Cadet Gohun heads to the group leaving and is ready to leave. After stopping by engineering and getting an engineering kit with a medical kit from sickbay. All of those things being carefully concealed in his shore leave kit.

[Delta Flyer Mjolnir - Shuttlebay 1 - USS Challenger]

[As Ruth|CPO T'ealc - Medical]

Ruth raised an eyebrow as the Security crewmember came back with a bag.  "Crewman Gohun, we're only away a week at most, and there are replicators on the Mjolnir, are you sure you need all that?! Anyhow we leave in 5 so I hope if you wanted the kitchen sink you have one packed!"

"T'ealc, are you ok, there are more medical supplies under that seat there.  Dr. Vaughan always insisted that I had at least one back up plan when it came to medical stuff.  Why I never travel without a medic if I can manage it!" Ruth chuckled.  T'ealc nodded and sat on the seat that the Captain indicated.  "I'm not going to forget which seat if I sit on it Ma'am, although I hope this is just a little jaunt and you don't need my ministrations!"

She stuck her head out of the Delta Flyer and called to the girls.  "C'mon you two, anyone would think you didn't want to go to Academy!"

Litt gave a little smile when the crewman Gohun entered with that bag. Dr. T'ealc entered right after him. "Welcome aboard you two..." He said gently.

After both of them had boarded it was the time to the girls finally get in the ship . Once they were there, the Captain gave the order.

Quote from: Ruth Sigurdsdottir on August 29, 2019, 02:25:03 PM

Once they were sat and buckled in she nodded to Ensign Litt.  "Take her out Mr. Litt. And once clear of the station, let's see what this baby can do, eh?!"

Litt gave a huge smile just for himself. "Aye ma'am... Undocking in 3... 2... 1... Now!" He counted and after reach 0 he took off the ship.

To save the hassle of potentially being seen coming and going from Challenger, Lahr put in for short term rental of quarters on the station.  He requested a pay by the week mid-range suite.  He figured it would provide enough security for what he needed it for.

He'd returned to Challenger at 4 in the morning... the time activity on the station was at it's lowest.  From the security that he passed during his to the ship he overheard of a murder victim found somewhere in by the station's cargo bay earlier that day.  A Romulan.  Coincidence?  Lahr doubted it.

He gathered up the remainder of the drugs from where he's stored them in his ship quarters and was relieved they hadn't been seen by his Vulcan roommate.  Grelek was a decent enough Vulcan but the guy wasn't in the know of his mission and it would only cause problems between them if the Vulcan thought he was an actual drug-dealer.   He stopped by Sickbay to leave a note for the doctor - a bit of a requisition that he hoped she could fill for him.

Now, after a good long sleep possibly helped by the use of one of his samples, Lahr was ready to see what other dirt he could stir up.   If someone had taken out the Romulan from the Pakled because of his interaction with Lahr and Lek then no doubt they would have the place under watch.  It would be the best time to be seen active.  So that's where he was... even this early in the day, trying to peddle his goods.

As he sipped on his liquid breakfast of vodka and orange juice, he wondered whether any of the Challenger crew had been roped into helping with the Conference security.

It was much too early for Tanya to show up so Lahr looked for others that seemed they were users...but it was much too early for most of them, so he simply waited.

Not long into his wait, alarms suddenly sounded. A red alert?!  The Andorian sat up straighter in his seat and felt for his commbadge hidden on the underside of his jacket sleeve.  It was set to silent mode, and would vibe if he received a call.

Cargo Bay 8 - Innominatum Outpost - Earlier

Sven was just on his way to see Ruth and her sisters off when the bodybuilder received an upset summons. He altered course and made his way to the bar

=/\= "Acknowledged." he said. This wasn't good and Forensics wasn't his cup of tea, per say. He was learning though and he did want to expand more into detective work. Or so his fantasy holo-novel of cyberpunk crimes would have him think.

After a few minutes he arrived and started to examine to scene.

=/\= "What exactly do we have here?" he asked Tak.

[Cargo Bay 8 - Innominatum Outpost - Earlier]

Tal looked at the burly Security Lieutenant and then down at the deceased.  "It would appear, Sir that someone had an aversion to this gentleman going about his business.  He appears to have a knife in his back, and I'd go as far as to hypothesise that this was indeed the murder weapon.  I made some tentative enquiries and it appears he came to the outpost yesterday on standard transport according to the security camera footage, and didn't book a room.  Looks like he was expecting to be in and out as soon as possible.  I suggest however, that you question patrons of the Pickled Pakled for information, since that was where he spent the majority of his short-lived visit."

A nurse knocked on the open door of the CMO's office to get the doctor's attention and then as Maggie waved her in with barely a look of acknowledgement, said "Just a note from that sexy Andorian that pops down every so often."

"Oh Lahr ch'Verret, just leave it on the desk there I'll deal with that in a sec..."

She was about to say more when the amber lights of a Yellow alert sounded and she got the call for readiness.

"How are we situated, Chloe?" she asked in a worried voice.

"Well we weren't expecting it but since we've been in readiness to leave for two weeks about 10 mins to get the rest of the staff in and we're good, that's the duty rota for today..." she said handing it over.

"Thanks" Maggie answered simply.

"Chloe, hold the fort I'm going down there." Maggie said with a worried look on her face.

She grabbed a medkit and ran like the hounds of hell were on her heels.

[Innominatum Outpost - Outside the Conference Holodeck]

"I came as fast as I could, site to site I was sure on a red alert would be off limits unless there was a...a... medical emergency.  Al-Hambra what's going on?" Maggie asked.

"From what I can tell Ambassador Li Sighn'wa has been..." he stopped as they reached the sealed door.  They confirmed who they were and vouched for the 2 medical orderlies who had been part of the roving teams that were closest to the holodeck at the time the red alert sounded.  Security hadn't let them in as they couldn't verify their ID and were being overly cautious for obvious reasons.

Once through, Maggie sought Lt. Commander Sukal and met his eyes, they clearly asking 'What the hell...?' while Al-Hambra went straight over to Ambassador Li Sighn'wa with the orderlies and checked his vitals.

"I'm sorry to announce that the Ambassador appears to be...dead, we don't even have any neural output. We couldn't bring him back." Al-Hambra announced with a look of dread on his face that was echoed by Maggie.  She knew how important it was for the conference to go off without a hitch and now this, the Captain bearly off the station.

[DEEP SPACE NINE - QUARK HOLOSUITE]

Three days before her assignment to the USS Challenger, Charlie Davis was on the holodeck at Quark's, doing what she usually did to distract her mind. She was skating across the ice of the lake on her family ranch near Bozeman, Montana. The holodeck wasn't the same as the real thing; It was too perfect, with snowflakes of ice twisting through the air and the rattle of wind against the old hockey net.

Her wife, Sarah, appeared out of nowhere, dressed in winter clothes. "Three days until the biggest day of your life, and I knew I'd find you in a holodeck doing this." She shook her head with a smirk. "Are you okay?"

Charlie slid to a brake before the other woman and shook her head. "No, I'm okay, really. Just stre- Okay, I'm not okay. I'm worried I'm gonna, you know, mess this up. It's a huge thing for me. All those years in the Academy, all those expectations on me, I'm scared."

Sarah took her wife by the lithe shoulders and pulled her into a cooldown hug, then gave her a kiss. Fishing into her clothes, she removed a small pin- In the shape of an anvil. She offered it to her. "Your father had this transported with a shuttle, you know, with his influence. Said to carry it with you."

The Anvil was part of the logo of the Haephestus, her father's station. It had been a few months since she'd last spoken to her father, but the message of support was there. Charlie took her wife by the hand and skated away with a smile.

[A little later than the cookie rounds - Delta Flyer Mjolnir - Somewhere between Innominatum and DS9]

Ruth had happily munched a few cookies and was a little bored so took the opportunity to send a message to the young... '...oh, woman....' Ruth thought to herself looking at the file on her PADD.  'Charlie' she had thought was a male name but a smile came readily to her face when she read that the young lady in question was married, to another young lady!

TO: Cadet Charlie Davis
FROM: Capt. Ruth Sigurdsdottir, CO, USS Challenger (currently aboard Delta Flyer - Mjolnir)
RE: Transport to Challenger from DS9

Please be advised that our ETA at DS9 is around 3 days hence possibly a little earlier.  I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Challenger and let you know that if there are any questions you may have then you can contact me.

Please advise if your wife will be travelling with us or staying on DS9, she is welcome to either take accommodation on Innominatum Outpost or on the Challenger.  Please advise Operations direct as well as myself of this so they can have suitable quarters arranged for our return as appropriate.

I must warn you however, that we are in the middle of a war zone.  While it is your duty as a Starfleet Cadet to follow orders, your wife is not beholden by such restrictions and I advise strongly that you discuss the situation with her seriously.  I will not dissuade you from having her with you but merely wish to make you aware of the dangers.  Our role in the sectors we will be patrolling as of next month is to find and eliminate the threat of ex-Admiral Leyton and bring peace to those areas once again.

I look forward to meeting you and your wife once we reach DS9, I will contact you when we get there.

Sincerely,
Ruth Sigurdsdottir
Commanding Officer
USS Challenger

~MESSAGE ENDS~

Satisfied with the note, Ruth sent it off.

"She's alright captain... I run some simulation flying here, but none of them are close to what really is being here in person." Litt answered the question with a pleased voice after seeing that the delta flyer was very good to flight. Right after that, he nodded his head to the second question. "Aye ma'am, come here to take the control..." He said. He tough that the same way he was missing flying, the captain should have the same tough.

Lek

[Engineering - USS Challenger]

Lek started when he heard the red alert sounded. He usually did as the default volume level was not configured to compensate for Ferengi ears. He moved from his office to the pool table to monitor ship's system.

"That was fast."

He thought as he scanned through the information available to him. The alert had to do with the conference on the station and according to the ship's chronometer, the initial greeting had just started.

"All hands continue with current assignments, but standby to assist the station as needed."

Lek doubted there would be anything his people would need to do, but you never knew.

[Delta Flyer Mjolnir - Somewhere between Innominatum and DS9]

Ruth recognised the slight reluctance in Litt to give up the controls, it wasn't a conscious one, but she knew from her own delight at being able to try the new Delta Flyer and she imagined that a fellow pilot would have the same feelings.

"Just for a little while, then you can have her back!" Ruth promised sliding into the pilots seat.

Getting a feel for the controls a slow smile spread over her face.  "OK baby, let's see what you can do!" and gradually took her up to the max warp of 7.2 but only for an hour before taking her back down to the cruising speed of Warp 6.

"Mr. Litt... once you've grabbed something to eat and a bit of a rest, feel free to tell me to butt out!" Ruth winked, "Oh and anyone else want to have a go, you can under supervision, I don't know about Mr. Litt but I am qualified to teach flying so long as it's with myself sitting side along you can have a go if you wish."

She hoped to integrate the new members of the crew.  "I'd suggest a game of i-Spy, but there's only so much one can see in a small craft, and well there's not much you can see out of the windows or there shouldn't be.  Soooo, anyone got some suggestions for say word games?"

There were some times when Ruth thought being Captain of an entire starship and running a station until they were back on their feet, was easier than keeping 6 people from being bored on a 3 day trip!  Her twin sisters were ok, they mostly reading novels on their PADDs, playing chess on the same, and sometimes reading the books their Uncle Sukal had given them.  She was proud that they were starting to take Academy seriously.

"Ahm... Let me see... We can try to play a guessing game." He though all games he could remember and that one was the best option. "It works like that... I give you a tip... It could the opposite thing from what I'm thinking, or some characteristic... Then you try to guess, if you do, you win 10 points, if you don't, another tip from me... If you guess the second try you won 9 points... And we do that until the 5Th tip... After that if no one guess every one gets 0 and the next person goes... After some rounds, maybe one for each, we declare a winner and start over." He smiled to the crew. "What you think?"

"Do they have Parises Squares teams?" Katya asked "Always wanted to try that!"

T'ealc laughed "Be sure to take along a medical cadet if you're doing that Katya, I've never known a practice not end in at least a minor injury of some sort, some rather major ones!"

Ruth chuckled "Won't be the first bone she's broken Petty Officer!"

"Broken...bones...in a game?"  Katya asked.

"Oh yeah, very physical game!  But sorry I'm taking away from your sister's question... do tell us about non-study activities Crewman." T'ealc drew the conversation back to leisure activities.

"No ma'am, I don't have permission to teach flight... Not yet, unfortunately..." He said thinking about the teacher career... Maybe in the future he would try that. But for now, just flight and help with science was ok.

"That's a cool idea Mr. Litt.  We'll hear from Mr. Gohun first and then we'll play a round or two of this game.  Anyone want food or drink, I'll play waitress!"

[Dr. York's Office]

[As Dr. Maggie York|Lt. j.g. Chloe Davies|Dr. Al-Hambra (CMO - Innominatum)]

=/\=Sickbay to Lt. Taray, Maggie York speaking.  With the exception of pulling in 'on call' staff since we are still working the 2 on 2 off shift pattern, we're in readiness here.  Dr. Al-Hambra will be down there now and I'm going to meet him. York out. =/\=

Sukal was by the Doctor's side when the announcement was made.  From what he could see of the wound - it seemed a perfect hole was right where Li Sighn'wa's heart would have been.  The damage was considerable, and clearly had been lethal from the moment of impact.  What made the wound seem strange to Sukal was it was not a stab wound.  At first, he had thought the Ambassador had been assassinated via a knife or other melee weapon from one of the people close at hand, but the wound left behind was nothing like anything he had seen such weapons do.  This looked like something a projectile would make, but such weapons were indeed rare on the station so far as he knew.  Even the TR-116 rifles were still rather limited despite being effective sniper weapons.  The odds of such a weapon actually belonging to the assassin was...rather...far fetched.  He felt like he was missing something, but what it was continued to elude him.

"Doctor, have the body moved to Sickbay.  Ambassadors are to be escorted to their quarters by faction," Sukal ordered, and the Security teams started with those closest at hand.  "I apologize, Ambassadors, but you all will have to remain in your quarters until the investigation is over with," he continued as the frenzied aliens and humans began shouting over each other about wanting to go first, wanting Starfleet to do more to protect them, and some calling out that it had been a setup to begin with.  Some voices he heard accusing Admiral Leyton of the assassination - a prospect Sukal had not overlooked.  After all, the Conference had been about uniting the region against Leyton, and possibly finding out more about where he was located.  But, if that had truly been the case - then why had only Ambassador Sighn'wa been killed?

What worried him most was how it had been done.  The number of people he knew off hand were small indeed to who could have pulled such off.  Such, of course, was not his area of expertise.  It was then he saw Lieutenant Commander D'leha Amoreen escorting the Sapphire Conglomerate members away with her team.

"Lieutenant Commander, as soon as you are done escorting your group, come find me in Station Ops.  We have a mystery to solve, and this is your area of expertise...not mine," Sukal ordered her.

"Of course, Sir.  I'll see you in fifteen," she confirmed professionally.

As the party was leaving; Sukal noted how the aide to Emissary Alyssa Winslow had looked back twice.  Even through her fur - he was sure she looked not only uncomfortable, but suspicious.  It was as if she was worried Sukal had figured out something.  He narrowed his eyes at her before she disappeared through the door with D'leha and Alyssa.  He would have to keep that one in his thoughts.  For the moment, there was nothing more to immediately do.

=/\= "I need a forensics team to the Holo Conference Room stat," =/\= Sukal added to his orders over the comm before leaving the room to let Security and Ops do their job.  He immediately made his way to Operations with his mind going at warp speed to figure out what he was missing.  Something important was escaping him, and it was beginning to frustrate the usually calm First Officer.

NPC Lt Taray - Chief of Sec/Tac]
[USS Challenger - Deck One - Bridge]

Taray listened as reports from Sickbay, his own department of Sec/Tac - reported in by Shurile, and Ops and Flight sounded.  But the Benzite was a bit surprised that nothing came in from Engineering after the first minute.

=/\= "Bridge to Engineering.  What's your status?"  =/\= Taray needed to know if Challenger was good to go if they needed to suddenly warp out chasing some murderous Leyton sympathizer.

[Engineering - USS Challenger]

Lek frowned at the hail from the bridge as that meant someone hadn't done their job and that not something he'd ever tolerate. He'd just the computer log to see who hadn't notified the bridge later.

=/\= "Engineering, Lek here, all systems nominal." =/\=

He replied tersely and vowed he'd have words with whoever dropped the ball.
