Bridge || USS Challenger

It was a complicated affair, the dog. And he wasn't sure how to explain it in a quick summary.

"I apologize. There was no steward to direct me when I landed. The dog is somewhat in between. Originally a pet. But last month I was severely injured. Traumatic brain injury. I'm luck to be alive. And more lucky to not be a drooling vegetable. Anyway my doctor and counselor both saw to it that Eurus here was trained in the way of a service animal. We are waiting for Star Fleet to register her as one. That awkward waiting period." he told the Benzinite.

He nodded and made his way to the pizza joint. He found a boisterous Ruth and walked over. Sven had done a good job obedience training Eurus. She was always by his side. And Dr. Brighton found Ana amazing team to train her in how to be a service dog. He pulled out a chair, and it was... difficult. But he managed and sat.

"Congratulations Captain." remarking on her new post. He gave a wink to the twins.

"Congratulations Lieutenant!"  joked Ruth back.  "You were just an Ensign when I last worked with you.  Look at you now a full El-Tee and Chief of Security on the lovely Athena!  So who's this lovely pup?" she asked fussing the dogs ears.  Both twins looked at Sven and said simultaneously "Can we cuddle her?!"

Anya said "Oh and hi um... what do we call you? At least not on duty I mean!"

"When you've answered the questions of the twins here you must tell me about how things are on Athena, how's James and the Brightons and Saya... catch me up on how they all are.  I miss you!  But I do have my own family on the Challenger to look out for now, and... I couldn't help notice... you've had some injury... tell all if it's not too painful... in more ways that one!"

Ruth was indeed pleased to see Sven, she'd taken to him when they served on the Athena and he along with those she'd asked about, were people that she cared about.

"If I were human I believe my response would be "go to hell." If I were human."

[Challenger Sickbay - CMOs Officer]

[As Dr. Maggie York, CMO]

Maggie smiled they were ahead of schedule...at least on the physicals.  All the senior staff had been done and she was amazed that she hadn't had to chase any of them down, having previously having to do so with several command staffs over her years as a doctor.

As the Captain had requested her to bring Dr. Chang to the meeting she decided that she would fill the new to the Challenger medic in on what to expect, and, since they were going to be working on the brain washing device, decided to get Tempest in to reschedule that meeting they'd wanted before.

=/\=Dr. York to Dr. Chang and Mr. Tempest.  Could you come to my office please, I want to update and correlate results before the meeting this afternoon.  York out. =/\=

She hoped that Chang had some knowledge of Neurosciences or this would literally go over his head unless he was prepared to do a LOT of reading!

[Eurus] [Sven]

Sven gave the twins a nod.

OMG! Attention! I don't get this very much.... oh. But I'm not suppose to get super excited. I'm suppose to help Sven. What do I do? the dog questioned. She looked up to Stryker with her big brown eyes.

"Ya, you can pet her. But she's kinda in training. And you can call me Sven or Stryker. Whichever one you want.

he turned his attention the the newly appointed captain.

"Kathryn is doing well. Sweet as always. The twins are growing fast. Saya is no longer with us. She got the big T to Discovery. Havn't heard a word from her since. Though I didn't know her very well. Captain Carter is... complicated. We've had some serious run-in's with the Liberation. Turns out the whole thing was being run by his alternate universe self. It's been a nightmare of investigations and paperwork for me. The ex-security chief was in cahoots with the Liberation, so I got promoted by fire. Still sorting out that mess. And it was actually during an attack by the Liberation where I was injured. A plasma conduit exposed behind me slamming my head into my console and catching me on fire. I was in a coma for a week, and have had 3 neuroreconstructive surgeries. We weren't sure if I would ever regain the use of my arms and legs. Recovery has been slow. I still have waves of nausea and dizziness. That's where Eurus comes in. She helps to steady me and guide me."

He folded his hands on his lap.

"You've been quite busy.. Something about a drug cartel?"

Dradis nodded "Well not just chat and chill..." Dradis pulled out his PADD, "...need to go over a few things.  The shuttles are all serviced, Navigation on Challenger is up to snuff... I think mostly we're going to be assisting other departments getting up to scratch and using the workabees for the rest of the month.  I seconded in Engineering, for obvious reasons... what about you?  Do you have any secondary skills?  I think with them stripping out the Ops Centre here on the Outpost they'll like a few extra hands there and then calibrating the sensor and communications arrays.  We'll see... so tell me, what do you do other than fly?" the Chief asked.

"As long as I get into a ship to flight sometimes, I'll be glad to help anyone who needs." He winkled at Dradis.

When the chief pulled out his PADD, Litt watched curious. "Good question, let me see." Litt put his hand in his chin, thinking a litte bit. "Well, my father was a doctor, and my mother was scientist, so... I kind know a little bit about both... And I've been wondering if I should took another graduation in any of them..." He looked at Dradis with a little smile in his face.

"And of course, If sometimes you need to shot someone with a phaser, count me in." He joked.

[Ruth|Arya|Katya]

"Oh my Gods she's so cute!" squealed Arya getting down on her knees and hugging the puppy who was nearly as big as herself, for all the twins were just turned 17, and turning heads the way their big sister still did.

"What's her name?" Katya said "And in training, like she's going to be a service dog proper or just like, no offence, just to help you.  I mean like there are sniffer dogs and then there are pets who are trained to fetch things or pick things up for erm... less mobile people." For all she was the brasher of the two twins, Katya could be sensitive to the fact that people had injuries and so on and Sven had just told of his accident that was ... well if he wasn't so bear like he probably wouldn't have survived it.  'That and Uncle Caleb's brilliant ministrations probably.' she thought to herself.  She stood and gave Sven a hug.  "Well I'm officially calling you Uncle Stryker and you deserve a hug as well as the dog for going through that and coming out the other side, mostly intact.  You've got a Viking name, must be that Odin loves you!" she winked at her big sister.  "He's kept us safe and let's face it before she became a Captain, Ruth has been known to erm... throw axes at Klingon pirates, to save Uncle Raynor... who's also a Klingon but a good one.. go figure but she's not exactly been the most decorous of people prior to Captaincy of the Challie!"

Ruth however sat with an aghast look on her face.  Not at what the girls were saying but more the account of Stryker's injuries.  She said quietly "So who do we have to thank for the fact you're not swilling ale in the halls of Valhalla?  Caleb?"  she placed a hand gently over Sven's and said honestly "You must tell me if the duties that I or Lt. Cmdr Sukal assign to you and your dog are too busy for you and report to Dr. York or Dr. Chang if you get any of the dizziness or anything.  Promise me.  I'm not having you dying on me!  I've lost too many good friends and I'm not having you be the next, please.  Do you want a pizza? We were just going to order." She passed over a menu and grinned, while he had a chance to look she addressed the other things he'd said.

"As for James... yessss... that doesn't surprise me and 'complicated' is one way to describe him!  The dear Brightons I miss them.  I really must get in contact with them. and I can drop Saya a note, I remember now, Hrafn Falleg said she'd moved to her husband's ship.  We keep irregular contact as fellow Scientists.  And me being busy, I'm engaged... to Captain William Waring... sorry Sven you had your chance!" she teased.

"And yes a drug cartel.  I'll fill you in more on that in the meeting after the meeting. Suffice to say one death on the Challenger and one on Innominatum it's public.  We have the 2 that were circulating it here in custody. I can't say more in public but we're having a meeting at 1400 about the Conference and additional security measures, and the fact that I have to leave half way thru the duration of the Conference to take this pair to DS9 at least.  Well... I'm debating actually.  I want to take them all the way to Academy, most parents don't, I'm not a parent but I am legal parental representative and guardian.  But even to DS9 that's gonna take me a week to get there and back I think, even if I fly myself and I'm not sure they're gonna allow that with it being through potentially Leyton operating territory.  So, yeah."

She turned to the girls.  "Oh yeah, mentioning which girls are you packed, I wanted to transfer your stuff down to whatever we're using as transport to get to DS9, leaving only what you'll need for your basic needs for the next few days."

Ruth turned back to Sven.  "After the Security/Conference duties meeting there's a um... departmental head meeting... " she gave Stryker a look to clearly state 'this is not just a departmental head meeting'. "As you'll be working with our teams and you're a Chief of Security, you're hearby cleared for this one by me... will help you get to grips with everything that's going on. You two are required to be there too, because of the work you've been doing with Lt Taray/CPO Maghouin and Lt. Tempest.  Your findings will need to be recorded."

Arya and Katya meanwhile were looking at each other shiftily.

"What's with you two?" Ruth asked.  "Not started on the packing?!"

"Not that,.." Arya said "...just last time we transferred everything from our DS9 quarters to the Redav and then from the Redav to the Challie by location tag as it was easier to do that than transfer it all manually. And we are mostly packed."

"Oh if that's all get a tag from Uncle Sukal, I'm sure he'll see the sense of that especially with all the coming and going on the base at the moment.  He'll know what vessel is best to take as well.  Good plan."  Ruth said.

The girls looked relieved and Ruth couldn't help think there was something more to it but might just be pre-Academy nerves.

"So pizza, I'm having the double pepperoni... what does everyone else want?!"

"Good skills to have especially the doctoring.  It all helps.  As for graduating with another discipline, we can do remote classes and get you the credits while you're in service if you like, as your Department Head I can put that to the Captain and the head of whichever department you want to learn in.  I'm sure Dr. York or Lt. Taray will be happy to have you for some of the duties, and your work can be sent off to the Academy for accreditation." Dradis said with a grin.

"A little birdie told me that the Captain is going to be taking her sisters to DS9 soon, to get the Academy shuttle.  There is no way in hell that they're gonna let her go herself, while she would have a Cadet Apprentice training in Sec/Tac with her going - her sister Katya, and Arya the Science-y one isn't a mean shot either from what I saw in Training on the range with her, she'd be alone out there in space with no back up if she was coming back... so might be that they'll want someone else to go with, I'll recommend you if they need a pilot, for all she could fly herself.  She started in flight you know.  You need to keep your hours up anyhow."

Chief Dradis grinned.  "In the meantime how about we replicate some glasses and set them out ready for the meeting and then nip next door to do it for the meeting after that.  Closer to the time we can make up some jugs of ice water and juice.  May as well be useful while we're here.  And I'll bet you a drink that the next person here is Chief Lek... he likes to be punctual, if it's anyone else I'll buy you two!"

Djann Tempest

[ USS Challenger - Holodeck 1 ]

The din of the forest at night quieted as Djann crept low and slow towards a clearing ahead. The lighting and relative openness of the clearing suggested this was a place the program had generated for his next encounter. I've got to work in some subtlety to this program Tempest thought as he pushed through the brush and into the open. Pulling his arms back and raising his hands he waited for the telltale sound of brush parting and footsteps approaching but as soon as he felt ready a sound came from above. Two figures dropped from low branches and rolled to either side of him. Perhaps this program is adequate he remarked internally and brought his body into a close quarters stance. One approached from the left and attempted to sweep his leg while the other jabbed with a polearm type weapon. Djann raised his legs in a scissor kick to avoid the leg sweep and trailed with his cybernetic arm out to block the blade. He landed and ducked to avoid the inevitable swing form the bladed opponent and as he was rising to strike the unarmed one  the image froze.

"Reminder for you Boss, meeting with the senior staff in 45 minutes. Play time is over"

The voice was that of his AI assistant Dolores and she was correct. Although play time was not necessarily correct, he did have things to prepare.

"Quite right. Computer end program and file for reevaluation" he spoke aloud to the Challenger and exited through the recently materialized arch.

[ USS Challenger - Corridor ]

After a shower and a uniform change, Tempest was prepared for the meeting. They had quite the task(s) at hand and all departments needed to be a well functioning unit to be able to track and end this whole ordeal. Luckily they would be able to use some remote sensor array link ups that he and the sciences team had brought online to help narrow down their search area. He arrived at the conference room and buzzed himself in, waiting for the meeting to begin.

"Thank you Challenger, acknowledged and understood, both docking and the appointment time.  Thank you.  Novum Initiis out." the helmsman responded.

Before long they docked and Praetor Aedile stepped out.  She spotted someone in gold and remembering the colours for the Federation uniforms she guessed it might be someone in Security.  She walked up to Lt. Commander Amoreen and smiled.

"Greetings, I am Praetor Aedille of the Reman Empire, I believe you must be in Security so I'm probably asking someone who might know... where might I be lodged for the duration of my stay?  I am friends with Captain Sigurdsdottir and Lt. Commander Sukal... or least we parted on friendly terms after my last visit.  And will we have freedom of the Outpost, the public parts I mean, I was intending doing some shopping before the Conference starts!  For all the armour and my guards looking very 'tough' I am totally a girlie girl underneath!  I'm sure you understand in your position, you have to have a rather tough demeanour outwardly on duty but I'm sure you like feminine things off duty!" Aedille grinned.

Getting off Reman for a bit was a holiday in itself.  Granted a working one but she didn't have the Elders breathing down her neck trying to advise her and then 'tsk tsk'-ing when she did whatever she thought was right.

[D'leha Amoreen]

D'leha raised an eyebrow at the arrival and introduction of the Reman Praetor - a woman no less.  To find out that she knew both the senior officers was a tad impressive, but then she had no former knowledge of past missions.  From her words - it was clear they had all interacted on some level, and left on peaceful...perhaps even friendly terms.

"I am here to help in matters of organization and security, Lady Aedile," the Betazoid greeted her with a nod of respect.  "I have never had the privilege of meeting someone of your prominence in the course of my duties.  Lieutenant Commander Sukal is on the CHALLENGER at the moment making sure the delegates arriving are safe.  Captain Sigurdsdottir is here on the station someplace.  She is likely taking some time with her younger sisters before having to escort them to Starfleet Academy," D'leha continued as she studied the guards flanking behind the Praetor.  Both were clearly dangerous, and not someone she was going to underestimate.  "As for your quarters," D'leha stated while looking down at her PADD for the information.  "You have been reserved the VIP quarters near the base commander's.  It is the best the station has to offer.  I will take you there myself."  D'leha began escorting the group of Remans to the assigned quarters, and as she did so - the woman went on to address the next question Aedile had inquired.  "Shopping should not be an issue, Praetor Aedile.  Indeed, you should have full public access along with the rest of the delegates."

She smiled at D'leha "So, could someone show me to these quarters of mine and have my luggage taken there, feel free to search them.  Other than some Reman goods of the wine and delicacy kind that I brought for the Captain, Lt. Commander Sukal, Dr. Vaughan, Lt. Lek, Mr. ch'Verret, Mr Nari... I don't think you'll find anything of interest... but you have a job to do and I understand that a Conference of this magnitude and with so many delegates from so many factions must be a tactical and security nightmare for you!  I'll do anything to make your job easier by complying to regulations."

[D'leha Amoreen]

D'leha did not say much to the Reman leader, but showed her to the new quarters she had spoken of earlier.  It was clear the woman understood how her gender was usually seen by the male populace, and that those who held authority or positions deemed dangerous were considered exceptions to the rule.  It was, perhaps, true.  Less so than in times long past, but still true all the same.  She could see why the woman liked Captain Sigurdsdottir; for there was a woman who held power, authority, and was not to be underestimated.  This was something D'leha had been keeping in mind every since she had met her new superior three weeks ago.  It was important not to underestimate the Captain and her crew members.

"Your bags were checked the moment you came aboard, Lady Aedile," she finally said as they came to a stop outside her new suite. "I seriously doubt you would bring anything dangerous which would bring dishonor or trouble to the friends you have created here.  Even so, had there been a problem; you would never have left Customs until it was resolved.  This is your suite.  As for your invitation to join you on your shopping spree; I must decline.  My duties keep me pretty busy until I can return to my own ship.  This Conference, I am sure you are aware, is quite the nightmare for Operations and Security personnel.  But, I thank you for such a generous offer."

With that said, D'leha bowed formally, and then left the Praetor and her contingent with the two Security officers posted nearby.  There was a great deal to do before tomorrow.  Part of her mind was always thinking of what she was to take care of while still making sure her duties were carried out effectively as much as possible.  It was, to be quite certain, a challenge she enjoyed...though it went against her principles.

[USS YORKTOWN:  NCC-87271:  Galaxy-class]

Captain Dana Wellington saw the station come into view as her ship dropped out of high warp.  Nearby, she could see the USS CHALLENGER on patrol for the station's extra security compliments of the conference which was to take place soon.  Also nearby was the USS JANARAN - which was under orders to support the CHALLENGER in keeping the stations safe for said conference.  Everything was in place, but Starfleet had now deemed the outpost of greater importance than it had originally decided.  Perhaps it was due to the efforts on behalf of the CHALLENGER's crew since taking it away from the traitor Leyton.  Whatever the reason, she was simply here to take care of a quick drop off, and then head on to her next assignment.

"Ops, contact the CHALLENGER, and let them know we are delivering a full squadron of Delta-flyers to aid them in defending the outpost, and one also for their own ship.  Further explain that we will be taking any damaged or older shuttles back with us," she instructed her Bolian Second Officer.

"At once, Captain," and just that smoothly, the communique was sent to the CHALLENGER=/\="USS CHALLENGER, this is the USS YORKTOWN bringing a full squadron of Delta-flyers for the defense of the outpost, and one for yourself.  Please standby for the transfer, and prepare any damaged or older shuttles to be sent back to us.  We will be here for the next three hours to complete this duty.  Acknowledge, please."=/\=

[Minchella's - Promenade - Innominatum]

Pizza place - outpost station

Eurus was Uber happy and her puppyness got the better of her. She licked and playfully nipped at the teens petting hands.

Meanwhile Sven's attention was on the Captain.

"Honestly, it will be nice to get away from this dammed Liberation investigation. Even though they cleared Carter for duty, they have me wrapped up in all sorts of investigations concerning him. And it's getting really old fast."

He looked at the menu.

"I'll have the grilled chicken salad, ranch on the side and water with lemon and no ice." he looked back at Ruth.

"I'll be sure to go to your medical people if I continue to have spells. Honestly Dr. Brighton says that they will pass as my brain forms new connections. It's just going to take time."

[Conference Room 2 - Innominatum Base]

[AS Chief Dradis]

Dradis chuckled as Tempest came in  "Looks like you've just cost me a drink...well ok 2, Mr Tempest.  I had a bet on that it would be Lt. Lek was next here!  What brings you so early?!"

"As for your training, yes Richard, I think we can arrange that in as many disciplines as you like, although I suggest one at a time so you're not inundated.  I'll speak to the Captain about it soon as she's free, that might be after she's back from taking her sisters to DS9 or whatever, and the other... that I'll discuss soon as I see her."

[Innominatum Outpost • Conference Room 2]

Litt looked at Mr. Tempest and then back again to Chief Dradis. "Thank you for your help sir... And I think I'll try to do the science graduation first." He gave a little smile to his superior. "And thank you very much about this other thing too."

Then he continued to make the arrangements for the meeting, preparing the glasses and the water and juice that Mr. Dradis was suggested. A few minutes later everything was done and the room was ready for the meeting.

Lek

[Conference Room 2 - Innominatum Outpost]

Lek acknowledged the others as they arrived in the conference, but remained largely quiet with an insufferably smug expression, not unlike what Lewis Carroll would have likened to that of the Cheshire Cat.
