Captain Dana Wellington saw the station come into view as her ship dropped out of high warp.  Nearby, she could see the USS CHALLENGER on patrol for the station's extra security compliments of the conference which was to take place soon.  Also nearby was the USS JANARAN - which was under orders to support the CHALLENGER in keeping the stations safe for said conference.  Everything was in place, but Starfleet had now deemed the outpost of greater importance than it had originally decided.  Perhaps it was due to the efforts on behalf of the CHALLENGER's crew since taking it away from the traitor Leyton.  Whatever the reason, she was simply here to take care of a quick drop off, and then head on to her next assignment.

"Ops, contact the CHALLENGER, and let them know we are delivering a full squadron of Delta-flyers to aid them in defending the outpost, and one also for their own ship.  Further explain that we will be taking any damaged or older shuttles back with us," she instructed her Bolian Second Officer.

"At once, Captain," and just that smoothly, the communique was sent to the CHALLENGER=/\="USS CHALLENGER, this is the USS YORKTOWN bringing a full squadron of Delta-flyers for the defense of the outpost, and one for yourself.  Please standby for the transfer, and prepare any damaged or older shuttles to be sent back to us.  We will be here for the next three hours to complete this duty.  Acknowledge, please."=/\=

A chime on his console alerted the Andorian to the presence of a ship dropping out of warp.   Though playing the slacker with many of his tasks, this was not one of them.   Ship and station security was not something he would compromise.   "Incoming ship, sir.  Just dropped out of warp.  Registry shows it as the USS Yorktown.  She was expected."

A moment after he announced this a comm was sent to Challenger.  Lahr put it to the duty officer's chair even as he answered back.

=/\= "Message acknowledged Yorktown.  Standing by." =/\=

Lahr looked to the duty officer questioningly. In his lackadaisical role Lahr had neglected to keep up with which, if any, shuttles were been traded out.   "We have any shuttles being sent away for repair?"

[D'leha Amoreen]

D'leha did not say much to the Reman leader, but showed her to the new quarters she had spoken of earlier.  It was clear the woman understood how her gender was usually seen by the male populace, and that those who held authority or positions deemed dangerous were considered exceptions to the rule.  It was, perhaps, true.  Less so than in times long past, but still true all the same.  She could see why the woman liked Captain Sigurdsdottir; for there was a woman who held power, authority, and was not to be underestimated.  This was something D'leha had been keeping in mind every since she had met her new superior three weeks ago.  It was important not to underestimate the Captain and her crew members.

"Your bags were checked the moment you came aboard, Lady Aedile," she finally said as they came to a stop outside her new suite. "I seriously doubt you would bring anything dangerous which would bring dishonor or trouble to the friends you have created here.  Even so, had there been a problem; you would never have left Customs until it was resolved.  This is your suite.  As for your invitation to join you on your shopping spree; I must decline.  My duties keep me pretty busy until I can return to my own ship.  This Conference, I am sure you are aware, is quite the nightmare for Operations and Security personnel.  But, I thank you for such a generous offer."

With that said, D'leha bowed formally, and then left the Praetor and her contingent with the two Security officers posted nearby.  There was a great deal to do before tomorrow.  Part of her mind was always thinking of what she was to take care of while still making sure her duties were carried out effectively as much as possible.  It was, to be quite certain, a challenge she enjoyed...though it went against her principles.

"As you wish Lt. Commander.  and I understand.  The Conference and preparation for it must be quite a nightmare.  If my Praetorian Guards can be of any help to you, especially while they'll be mostly inactive since I'll have the security of the Federation Security while I'm here and your cameras, then please let Lt. Taray and whomever is in charge of Innominatum Security that they just need to send a message and you can have probably 4 to 6 extra pairs of hands ready to assist.  They will answer to whomever is in command, that only wavering if I myself am in danger.  Their priority is my safety after all."  Aedile said with a smile.

"I hope you get a break sometime and thank you for bringing me up here."

Taray gave a look to Lahr that clearly said 'Search me!'  However she shrugged and answered more correctly.

"I really have no idea Petty Officer.  I'd get onto Chief Dradis and ask him, I believe they've been working on them but there might be a few less repairable here but in a full space dock...  Captain Sigurdsdottir will be happy to have a flyer to play with!" she said with a smirk.

Litt looked at Mr. Tempest and then back again to Chief Dradis. "Thank you for your help sir... And I think I'll try to do the science graduation first." He gave a little smile to his superior. "And thank you very much about this other thing too."

Then he continued to make the arrangements for the meeting, preparing the glasses and the water and juice that Mr. Dradis was suggested. A few minutes later everything was done and the room was ready for the meeting.

[Conference Room 2 - Innominatum]

[As Chief Dradis]

Dradis nodded at Lek as he came in.  "You know you've just cost me 2 drinks to the youngster here Mr. Lek.  We thought you'd get here after us but Mr. Tempest beat you to it! And what's the grin for? Just had 3 hours of Oomox?!"

He turned back to Litt with the same grin.  "Science you say, well Mr. Tempest here would be the one to ask about that." he turned to the Chief of Science with a smile.  "OK, Formal hat on here, we have to OK it with the Captain, but you know what she's like, multi-disciplined herself, but Mr. Litt would like to get another graduation from Academy, well several but was thinking about taking the Science one next.  If that is the case, we were thinking about doing it on credits having him work half his shifts with me in Flight and half in whichever department... in this case Sciences, to do the Academy work and gain experience.  Would you be willing to let him do this?"

A moment after he announced this a comm was sent to Challenger.  Lahr put it to the XO's chair even as he answered back.

=/\= "Message acknowledged Yorktown.  Standing by." =/\=

Lahr looked to the XO questioningly. In his lackadaisical role Lahr had neglected to keep up with which, if any, shuttles were been traded out.   "We have any shuttles being sent away for repair?"

Sukal had not been sitting back in his chair for very long when Lahr patched through a message from the arriving USS YORKTOWN.  The requested Delta-flyers had arrived at last.  Since coming back to Starfleet and realizing the importance of the outpost; Sukal had done his best to get the base's defenses setup to standards.  The last thing he wanted was for Leyton or some other hostile force to take it away from them.  Having this base expanded Starfleet's sphere of influence in the area - a critical necessity when it was currently in a civil war.  Leyton had obviously thought the base was worth something or he would not have had it originally.  Thus, Sukal had prevailed upon some of his contacts to make sure the base had better defenses.  Since then, supplies had come in that were critical to the repairs of the ship and base, as well as to help with the overall defenses.  Now, the arrival of thirteen Delta-flyers - twelve for the station and one for themselves - was a boon to them all.  He had kept this from the Captain as one of his surprises.  After all, Ops was sometimes known in other areas of the Federation as the Scrounger Corps.  At least, that was how it had been explained to him in his early years in Starfleet.  It was their job to make sure the other departments ran smoothly based on what their needs were.  Sometimes, that meant going outside channels, or making special requests from friends at supply depots.

"I believe the USS SMITH:  NCC-40117 is up for retirement.  Have the shuttlebay informed of the incoming new craft, and to have the requested ship ready for departure.  I believe the base has only some old shuttles.  All of those should be replaced with the new Deltas.  I'll notify the Flight members to let them know they have some new equipment coming in, and I had better let Lek know," Sukal replied.

The First Officer took a moment before patching a communique in to the two individuals:  =/\="Chief Dradis and Lieutenant Lek, please be advised that a full squadron of Delta-flyers has arrived from the YORKTOWN, and will be delivered over the next three hours.  I know we have meetings coming up, but as soon as those are over - I want those ships taken care of, and any old ones sent out."=/\=

Time was slipping away, and they would soon need to return to base so he could attend the staff meeting.  It was then he noted the arrival of the Reman flagship.  Sukal arched an eyebrow knowing it meant the arrival of Praetor Aedile, and hoped she had been well taken care of.  His PADD showed a meeting was scheduled before the Conference between himself, the Captain, and the Praetor.  The First Officer closed his eyes for a moment, and the took a long slow deep quiet breath before opening them again.  The amount of meetings he had was far more than normal, but such was the way of things.  He had the staff meeting to discuss the Conference, a meeting to deal with any progress on the drugs and Leyton problems, a three-way meeting with the new Federation Special Envoy, and that was just today.  Tomorrow, there was the meeting with the Praetor, likely one last meeting with the Captain before the Conference, and then the Conference as well.

Even serving under T'Ra, he had never had so many meetings in two days.  Part of him was rather intrigued by the challenges such presented, but part of him was not so keen on so many in a forty-eight hour period.  A slight smile crept across his face as he shook the negativity away.  This is what he had come back to Starfleet for - to help reunify the Federation, bring an end to the civil war, and to be of use once more.

Besides, not all of the meetings were going to be unpleasant.  He was rather curious to hear from Aedile how her people had reacted to her becoming their leader, and what had happened to her ex-husband.

"Helm, bring us back to the outpost.  Let's get docked and prepared for one very long and interesting week.  Mr. ch'Verret let the USS JANARAN know they are taking over patrol, please," Sukal noted to the various personnel, and set his mind on the meetings to come.

Pizza place - outpost station

Eurus was Uber happy and her puppyness got the better of her. She licked and playfully nipped at the teens petting hands.

Meanwhile Sven's attention was on the Captain.

"Honestly, it will be nice to get away from this dammed Liberation investigation. Even though they cleared Carter for duty, they have me wrapped up in all sorts of investigations concerning him. And it's getting really old fast."

He looked at the menu.

"I'll have the grilled chicken salad, ranch on the side and water with lemon and no ice." he looked back at Ruth.

"I'll be sure to go to your medical people if I continue to have spells. Honestly Dr. Brighton says that they will pass as my brain forms new connections. It's just going to take time."

Ruth nodded and threw a credit chip on the table to cover the meal for them all and a generous tip, as always it had been delicious with impeccable service with a smile. Toni (Antonio) and his daughters were from Fiumicino on the coast, east of Rome, so genuine italians, it showed in their passion for food. "A break from something is as good as having a holiday some days.  I remember the Liberation and they were as much of a pain as my own headache here - namely Leyton, you'll get the run down in the 2nd meeting."

"Well it's about time we weren't here... should we make our way up to the Conference Room.  I suspect some people will be up there already and it will give us a chance to get you and Eurus acquainted with some of my staff less formally, although I will introduce you in the meeting obviously."  The Captain said with a small smile.  "I promise after today, you'll have done with the introductions! However, after today you'll be working too, any further introductions will be a curt nod and rank and name nothing more as you're on duty with this or that Crewman...I swear Security between the Outpost and the ship probably is equal on it's own in manpower to that of the other departments!"

She stepped into a turbolift and waited for the others to follow.  "Deck 14"

[Conference Room 2 - Deck 14 - Innominatum Base... about 30 mins before the meeting]

"Afternoon Gentlemen, oh don't all get polite on me, you're still in down time but would someone get me a large, black, unsweetened Ratkajino, and this is Lt. Sven Aune, Chief of Security on my old ship Athena and his service dog, Eurus.  Please treat them with the respect due to them, although I'm sure if you ask Sven, otherwise known as Stryker, nicely... he'll let you pet her.  Oh whomever's getting my coffee... whatever for Stryker here and a bowl of water for Eurus please, we can't leave her out.  I think you all know my sisters."

[As CPO Lena Maghouin|PO1 Wilson]

"Oh am I late?  Apologies if I am, it's a nightmare down there trying to get enough senior-ish staff to cover while the senior staff are at this meeting.  Will Taray be here or will I have to have a meeting with her later to relate?" Lena said rushing in with a smile.

"She should be, I have arranged for PO2 Naamet to be on duty to cover her." Ruth answered.  "It's important that our chiefs are at this meeting, and as it happens the next too.  Welcome Petty Officer... Wilson isn't it?"

Wilson nodded, glad to be remembered.  "It is Ma'am, and by his bearing I'm guessing this gentleman is also Security?"

"Indeed, Lt. Sven 'Stryker' Aune, Chief of Security on the USS Athena, my old ship.  Sven - CPO Lena Maghouin, Chief of Security on Innominatum and PO2 is it? Paul Wilson, her aide."

"It's PO1 now Ma'am but it's a recent promotion... doesn't change anything, I'm still the Chief's gopher!  Good job she's an awesome boss to work for!"  Wilson grinned.  "Welcome Mr. Aune and ... dog!"

"Oh yes and Eurus... service puppy, or she will be once the papers are through.  And yes, she's more of a shaggy dog shaped pony than a dog but that's her breed!"

"Sven,.." she nodded at each as she said their names, "Lena and Paul I've just introduced, Lt. Hoshi Dradis Chief of Flight, Ensign soon to be Lt. jg. I think, Richard Litt, also flight, Lt. Djann Tempest Chief of Science, Lt. Lek, Chief of Engineering."

Once the ship was docked - for which he noticed was done not only efficiently, but smoothly - Sukal stood up, and made his way down to the transporter room after making sure all stations were secure.  "Mr. ch'Verret, I am sure you are needed for this meeting as well," Sukal told the Andorian.

Beaming directly to any of the station was now impossible so far as Sukal knew.  The new security procedures had established transporter null fields throughout the station.  Of course, he knew some might find ways around the new procedure, but until then such was not possible.  Thus, the CHALLENGER's First Officer walked down from the transporter room to the second Conference Room at a brisk pace.  Just shy of five minutes, and he entered the Conference Room to see many had already arrived for the meeting.

"Good afternoon, Companions," he greeted them all, and took his seat next to the Captain while sliding over his PADD to her detailing her newest surprise just being delivered from the YORKTOWN:  thirteen shiny new Delta-flyers - one for their own ship named the MJOLNIR.

He turned to the Captain.  "Ma'am, a request if I may on behalf of Mr. Litt, as his Department Head."  He mimed putting a 'hat' on.  Ruth grinned at him and nodded for him to continue.  "Two actually.  The first is the possibly more important one.  Richard here would like to graduate with a secondary, for now, discipline from the Academy, firstly Sciences, if you and Mr. Tempest are willing he could do this by credits only, working half his shifts in flight and half in Sciences to get the credits, would you allow that?"

Ruth smiled to encompass both of them.  "Well, I don't see why not, if Djann is fine with it.  Your primary station will still be at the helm, say if we are at red alert, but seeing as I'm multi-disciplined myself I know how useful it is, you definitely have my permission for this.  The second request?"

As Sukal arrived she nodded and took the PADD while waiting for Dradis's 2nd request.  As it happened it was quite aptly timed.

"Well..." Hoshi said shifting his feet and rubbing the back of his neck slightly nervously, "A little birdie tells me that these 2 lovely young ladies are going to be leaving us shortly for the Academy,.." he winked at Arya and Katya, "...your fresh faces are gonna be missed girls."

"Aww Chief, we'll send you updates from Academy,.. erm if Captain Sigurdsdottir allows..." Arya said giving the Flight Chief a quick hug.  They'd become firm favourites with the crew and treated most of the senior staff as extended family.

"I can't see a problem with that, and yes I'll be flying them over there, possibly in my new toy.. em acquisition!"  she grinned at Sukal, noting the registration number and name of the new delta flyer for Challenger.  This was intended to be her runabout, although to most people the name and number wouldn't be obvious.  Mjolnir was Thor's Hammer, it was her flyer alright, and the number was her birthdate in Earthen terms!  Sukal surprised her once again, justifying her making him her Executive Officer even more.

"Well we all know you're more than capable of flying her, and taking the girls to DS9 will help keep your flight hours up Ma'am but, and I'm sure that Mr. Sukal will agree here, I don't think anyone wants you coming back literally alone.  Going I'm sure the 3 of you could fend for yourselves but in space that might easily have Leyton lurking in it... nope, forgive me saying but we want you back here and safe.  So if you'll let Ensign Litt come with you and if I might recommend perhaps Ensign Walding, and your friend Lt. Aune.... or least someone else from Security to make a small team, armed naturally..."

"What say you Sukal?  I agree it's a good idea, and I thank you for thinking of my safety.  Lt. Aune will be staying on base as he wishes to work with CPO Maghouin and Lt. Commander Amoreen to get to grips with Base Security, he's on light duties, following a severe injury... otherwise... though it's up to you Lieutenant, I won't be away that long, not with a Warp 4 capable Delta Flyer.  Litt and Walding, definitely, but whom do you recommend as a third member Number 1?  Who can you do without for what... a week?  I'm not sure on exact speeds of the Delta Flyer."

She stepped closer to Sukal and whispered "I want a word with you between meetings, on our own, but thank you for my pressie even if it's really for Challenger.  Our ship isn't big enough for a Captain's Yacht but a Delta Flyer... so much more my sort of thing and you know it! And the ones to defend the Outpost... why didn't I know about this?!"  she winked.

"I'm sorry for so many meetings people, but I have prior engagements, arrangements made long before I was promoted and given command of you lovely lot and my beloved Challenger.  Namely getting rid of,.." she grinned at the twins to show she was only jesting.  "...I mean depositing my sisters at DS9 and sending them off to Academy, that's the day after tomorrow that we leave and there's a party, Holosuite 3, tomorrow night which is a belated 17th birthday party and leaving party in one..."

Katya and Arya gasped having not known a thing about it.  "Sis we..." Katya said in amazement.

"Thank you Sis!" Arya smiled across in obvious thanks and genuine surprise.

"I know you didn't know, not even Lt. Commander Sukal knew about it, I can be super sneaky like that!" the Captain said grinning.  "But you're all invited, but I needed to get everything ship shape here before I left and put the Outpost and the Challenger in the capable hands of my First Officer.  As soon as everyone is here I'll begin then hand over to you Mr. Sukal."

"Afternoon Ma'am" Litt said making his way to the table with the drinks to grab the 3 drinks to the newcomers since he wasn't directly in any conversation at the time. Litt grabed two coffees, one for the captain and one for Sven and the water for the dog.

When Litt was introduced in that way he felt his cheeks flush. "Thank you about that Captain." Then he extended his hand to Sven. "Very Welcome to the Challenger. Anything I can help, just ask."

In the moment Mr. Sukal entered the conference room, Litt saluted him. "Good Afternoon Mr. Sukal..." He wave his hand politely.

[As Ruth|Dradis|Arya|Katya]

Dradis grinned back.  "A certain beautiful Klingon Security lady?  Nice to see you so happy Chief, long may it last!"

Sukal."
When Mr. Dradis was starting to ask the Captain about the 2 things of Litt's interest, he started to look at both of them to see how this conversation was going. When he realizes that the Captain agreed with Chief Dradis ideas a big smile appears in his face. Now was just in Mr. Tempest hands to agree with it and Litt would be able to get his second graduation on the academy, following his mother career.

Litt made a mental note about the twins' 17th birthday party and laugh with both of the reactions of then when they realize that.

[Bridge - Challenger]

[As Lt. Taray]

Lahr nodded at the advice and turned to his station to begin contacting Chief Dradis on exactly that when Lt. Commander Sukal returned to the Bridge.  His superior Vulcan hearing must have picked up on his conversation, or maybe the Betazoid hybrid was reading his thoughts because he answered Lahr's question without being asked.
Quote from: Sukal on August 11, 2019, 08:23:29 AM

I know we have meetings coming up, but as soon as those are over - I want those ships taken care of, and any old ones sent out."=/\=

...

"Helm, bring us back to the outpost.  Let's get docked and prepared for one very long and interesting week.  Mr. ch'Verret let the USS JANARAN know they are taking over patrol, please," Sukal noted to the various personnel, and set his mind on the meetings to come.

The Andorian bobbed his head, still a little disconcerted that the man knew his question without being asked.  "Yeah, I can do that" Lahr remarked in a very unprofessional manner and. proceeded to contact the shuttlebay.  He informed them of the incoming Delta Flyer and asked to have the USS Smith prepped for pass off and retirement.  Which generally meant removing any personalisations the pilots might have added over the many years.   Lahr had seen Hawaiian hula dolls and Bobbleheads on more than a few front consoles of the shuttles.

He received an affirmative response back and passed on the message to the XO.

"Shuttlebay teams were anticipating the exchange and say all is in readiness." he let his statement stand like that for several seconds before belatedly adding in the requisite  "sir" as an afterthought

He was just turning his attention back to his regular duties when he was asked to pass on a message to the JANARAN.  Again his reply to his XO was less than textbook protocol.

=/\= "USS Challenger to USS Janaran.  We're returning back to base.  Patrol of the system is yours.  Enjoy!" =/\=

Lahr was hoping with the ship returning to base that he'd be replaced with some station staff and he could take the rest of the shift off.. but no such luck for the poor Andorian.

Quote from: Sukal on August 11, 2019, 09:07:56 AM

Sukal heard the reply, and answered in return, "We should be docking momentarily, Chief.  I will be there in about five minutes."

Outpost Innominatum

Instead he was informed that he had to sit in on another briefing meeting.

Lahr's glance danced about the bridge worriedly for a moment, turned back to Sukal in a frown.

"Aww man really?  If this is more manual note-taking as punishment for being late... I'd rather spend the day in the brig than sit through more dull meetings."

In the half-chance that the Vulcan hybrid was reading his thoughts, Lahr was pointedly thinking.. Play along man, I've got a badboy rep to build here.  If he was needed at the meeting that was fine but it shouldn't seem like it was because he was part of the command in-crowd - not if he was gonna be accepted as a drug dealer.

[Innominatum Outpost - Conference Room]

Lahr followed behind his Chief of Operations at a slightly slower pace putting on the act of being a reluctant participant until the very end.  He would only drop the act once the doors were locked and he could be sure it was just those who the Captain trusted that were in the meeting.

"Deck 14"

moments later...

[Conference Room 2 - Deck 14 - Innominatum Base... about 30 mins before the meeting]

Captain Sigurdsdottir started to make introductions. Sven nodded to each person and offered a large calloused hand to shake. Though he was still weak from his recent TBI, his shake was firm, almost crushing, his strong arms bulged under his gold uniform.

"On duty you can call me Mr. Aune. Or Sven in a crisis. Stryker is reserved for less formal occasions and friends. But I tend to run a tight ship back on the Athena. Not to say we don't have our fun and silly moments. But when things are serious, I like to keep things professional." he explained trying to convey that he is dedicated to his job, but he also knows how to have fun with the time and situation warrants it.

"I'm looking forward to working with you all. I understand that Layton has been a real pain in the backside. What was it you said Captain? He's your hemorrhoid?" he made a little joke. Of course Ruth never said that openly, but she implied it back at the nice pizzeria.

He turned his attention the the steward that was serving the staff. "Water, lemon no ice."

Sukal went over to the display screen and activated it before turning to face his fellow officers and shipmates.  The screen showed a list of the dignitaries currently involved in the conference - which was quite an extensive list.

"This conference is of vital importance on various levels.  About half of those attending do not trust the other half, but in order to help stabilize the region - we need them to start working together.  This particular point is one of our many steps necessary to cornering Leyton.  While we do not yet know where his main base of operations is at; there are those who might be able to help us locate him.  They have been in this region for years...some from the beginning.  Each one of them have had to deal with Leyton in one fashion or another, and they are drawn here by one common purpose now:  to stop him.  Apparently, they have all been hurt by his rebellion, and now consider him a common enemy...or at least a threat.  However, because half of them don't trust each other - we must be extra vigilant in our security routines and procedures.  There is two other reasons for the heightened security.  The first is the arrival and attendance of Praetor Aedile of the Reman Empire.  As a Head of State - it is imperative she be kept safe, and she is not the only important guest we have.  Just recently, the Federation sent a Special Envoy:  Ambassador Veshaa Sh'araonner - an Andorian woman who is here to help with this massive conference.  The other is Lady Gril'ka of the Klingon Empire.  Apparently she has some holdings of her own out here from her House, and is personally attending.  As a valued ally of the Federation - her security is most certainly another priority," Sukal began.

Before he continued, he took in the eyes of every person present...even the rebellious Lahr.  "As you can see, we have never been put in a position like this before.  This outpost was made for this kind of thing, but this is our first time having something of this level to deal with on the diplomatic front.  No matter your department - everyone is to remain extra vigilant.  If something isn't right, or feels out of place - do not hesitate to report it.  I'd rather us be cautious than careless.  In accordance with that, Security and Ops have created Transporter Null Fields throughout the station - especially in sensitive areas.  Beaming directly to the conference is now impossible so far as we know, and that includes areas like the armory, command center, medical - except by emergency codes, and so forth.  The new procedures implemented by DNA have seem effective so far, and we will continue to use such methods.  Security patrols have been doubled in command level areas, Praetor Aedile's level, as well as to the levels containing the Ambassador and Lady Gril'ka...who has not yet arrived.  In addition, Starfleet has seen the importance of our post here, and has given us a full squadron of the new Delta-flyers to add to the station's defense. With this, they have also posted the USS JANARAN to help with maintaining traffic and threat control outside the station. It may be only a matter of time before Starfleet declares this as a starbase, but that is for another time."

Again, the First Officer paused in his briefing after turning off the viewer.  "We have a lot of work ahead of us.  The conference begins tomorrow at 1030 Hours.  Some of us have the Think Tank meeting to attend directly after this, and even more meetings after that - for me and the Captain.  Remember, the Captain is leaving with her sisters sometime in the next two days after the party, and I would prefer her to have the escort she has mentioned.  The last thing we need is Leyton or someone else to attack our beloved Captain and get away with it.  Those who have volunteered for this assignment have my personal thanks.  So, since we have so much to do - I will not keep you all much longer.  The floor is now open for questions or concerns," Sukal offered as he remained standing.

The fact that they were in Conference Room 2 should have clued in the Andorian that this was NOT the Super Secret meeting... but just a usual briefing.  But then Lahr was a bit sleep deprived with his efforts to get into the drug ring crowd.  Late nights and poor behaviors were taking its toll.   Given this revelation, Lahr had to play the role of the disciplined crewman.  While the Captain and Commander brought the meeting to order, Lahr sighed and opened a text program on his PADD to take notes.

Taking only periodic notes - he was supposed to be an unwilling participant here afterall - Lahr  glanced over towards the new guy in the room.  The human was huge!  The Andorian didn't think the species grew to that size, except when overweight.

With his attention on Aune, Lahr almost missed the fact that the Commander had gone quiet until someone cleared their throat and Lahr looked up to find Sukal fixing him with an intense glance.   Well... that was unintentionally disruptive.   Lahr met the Vulcan hybrid's eyes for a moment almost daring him to call him out... before turning his attention back to his PADD as if he was catching up on the notes.

The only upside to his note-taking task was that Lahr was now in the loop of who the VIPs were for this upcoming Conference.  That and he now knew the Captain was gonna be heading out on a mini-vacation.  That might be the best time to bring his efforts into fruition... when the Captain was away.

Lahr glanced towards Lek wondering at the Ferengi's own progress.  Lahr felt there was a bit of a unstated competition between them.   Lek's comment at the last meeting..  that he was the better choice for drug dealer but that Lahr was more expendable had stung.  Lahr intended to show the Chief just who was the more devious of the two of them.

When the Commander opened the floor to questions, Lahr remained silent.  He knew his role.

[Conference Briefing Meeting - Conference Room 2 - Innominatum Base]

[As: CPO Lena Maghouin - Chief of Outpost Security|Lt. Taray - Chief of Security (Challenger)|Dr. Maggie York|Ruth]

Lena Maghouin cleared her throat and for good measure, put up a hand once she was sure that no one was going to jump in ahead of her.  She and Taray had exchanged looks and Taray nodded for Lena to take point.

"CPO Maghouin, Outpost Security Chief for anyone that doesn't know me yet,.." she said standing.  "Two small items of query.  First since this is a meeting about the Conference,...Did you have a preferred rota for the security teams drawn up?  Also with reference to that, given the size and importance of this conference while we have Lt. Aune and his dog and Lt. Commander Amoreen to help, and both of them are sufficiently experienced to take charge of an area, we are still trying to cover too much of an area with too few crew.  Now I've spoken with Lt. Taray and she's said that Challenger will require a minimal contingent of staff while she's docked, and with your and/or Captain Sigurdsdottir's permission we intend to pull them on duty on and around the Conference... we'd also like to request that anyone who has had Security training..."

Maghouin and Taray exchanged a glance, then Taray gave Lahr a look, then looked at Sukal and the Captain hoping to convey her meaning.

"... could be seconded to us to make up the numbers."

Ruth smiled.  "Lahr's needed for other duties, I'm afraid.  He'll be on a special job for me, as will Lt. Lek, it will be taking up a lot of their time, even keeping at it in a fair amount of what would be their down time.  Sorry.  However, anyone else... yes, certainly.  I'd volunteer to take a shift myself but for the fact I'm not going to be a lot of use 4 days by shuttle away!"

She looked at Lahr and gave him a small smile.  She did have a job for both him and Lek but this wasn't the meeting to address that in, plus a promise was a promise.  While she didn't anticipate any major trouble at the conference, as Sukal had pointed out, there was enough of them didn't trust - Vulcan-speak for 'would rip each other's throats out given half a chance' she was sure - each other, she didn't want to put Lahr into a combat situation if she could possibly help it.  There were going to be times in the future of dealing with Leyton she was sure, when it couldn't be avoided but the times that could be, she'd keep her promise.

"Lahr, Lek I'll see you after this meeting about that!" she said with a small wink.

Taray spoke up.  "We were wondering.  This is, despite a lot of the delegates having superglued what passes for courteous smiles on their faces, for appearances sake.... is supposed to be a peaceful conference, correct?  So... are we to be armed with phasers, on stun obviously, and will the Captain want the Delta Flyer ordinanced and side arms checked out for her.  I'm sure a phaser is much more convenient than her throwing axes in a small space!"

The Captain chuckled."Certainly side arms for myself and everyone travelling with me,  you're right not much throwing room! I haven't flown for a while but I believe that's still common 'law' for most of Federation air space.  Dradis? Mr. Litt can you confirm or deny this, esp. Mr. Litt as we'll be sharing the pilot duties on this trip?" Ruth asked.

Another hand went up at the top of the table and Maggie stood up.

"Forgive me, but I have a suggestion.  We've done 95% of the..." she gave the Command pair a look and with a returned look of 'say it but don't say exactly why' from the Captain she continued.  "...ongoing physicals with a view to reviewing the state of health on the Outpost following their encounter with Leyton prior to your arrival Captain..."

She paused, that covered it both truthfully, but while missing out that it was to go on the offensive with Leyton again...

"... we have a little more leeway to offer another 'service' if you like.  I was thinking having roving medical teams, in pairs based around a certain area, say for example the Promenade - could have 4 or 5 teams up there covering a stretch, maybe 4 or 5 teams in the Conference Arena itself, with medkits, possibly hover stretchers more widely spread out, but basically to provide First Aid cover.  There are going to be a lot of people, we can't set environmental controls to suit every species unless we had them in individual pods so potentially there will be people getting too hot or cold, so that causing its own health problems as well as it being a slightly volatile situation.  and with approximately 500 or so extra people at this conference with all their entourages... someone is going to bump or hurt themselves at some point!"  Maggie said shrugging.

"So roving medical teams, either in pairs or pair up with Security... whichever is more convenient.  Also I've asked Dr. Al-Hambra if they will use the Secondary Sickbay for any visitor medical issues, leaving Primary Sickbay on base for residents and Fleet personnel.  Dr. Chang will be working with me on crew matters..." she stressed that with a small glance to the left to indicate the Primary Conference room and the Think Tank meeting next, "...and co-ordinating the roving teams." Dr. York concluded.

"I think that's a good idea, get the rotas and proposals to me and Mr. Sukal by the end of the day.  Mr. Sukal..." she said handing the reins back to Sukal to wrap up the meeting.  She hoped there wouldn't be too many other questions and those who were scheduled to be in the other meeting would have the sense to let others disperse first and/or not make it obvious that they were going next door.  She didn't want anyone not cleared to see what they were up to.

"If I were human I believe my response would be "go to hell." If I were human."

Dradis grinned back.  "A certain beautiful Klingon Security lady?  Nice to see you so happy Chief, long may it last!"

Lek didn't reply to Dradis as it was patently obvious with whom he would be spending his time and he didn't know Dradis well enough to share that sort of information.

Lek didn't like the sound of that 'special job' task one little bit, but there was nothing to say to something like that other than.

"Yes Ma'am. The only thing to report with engineering is that the plasma conduit refit is proceeding nicely, but we are only 40% complete. As I said, it is a miserable task requiring replacing literally kilometers of conduits. Other than that, all systems are nominal."
