ShranLahr ch'Verret

#75

PO2 ShranLahr ch'Verret
[USS Challenger - Deck One - Bridge - hours later]

Humming to himself, Lahr reviewed the scan and data logs back from their encounter with the Redav and it's escape.  This of course was something Lahr had been ordered to do back when the Redav was first destroyed; but no...he hadn't managed to complete his orders... not then.

Now, as Lahr was staring at the results of his latest review of the logs from when the Redav was scuttled, he realized how intertwined everything truly was.

Lahr glanced up from the chaos of electronic files littering his workstation and looked to the Captain's chair, but it was vacant at the moment.

"Damn.. I need to tell this to the Captain!" Lahr uttered

=/\= "ch'Verret to the Captain.  You were right, ma'am.  You were right about everything." =/\=

Kyle Briggs

[USS Challenger-A - Deck One - Briefing room]

Kyle remained in the Briefing Room with the young crewman. They went over the notes Kyle had taken during the meeting. Briggs also explained how the XO wanted an idea to make Hecate's ship engage them. With both men brainstorming, they made their way to the Captain's Ready Room.

[Outside Ready Room]

Kyle heard the system announce their arrival as they approached the door. As they waited, Kyle looked around the Bridge. Last time he was on the Bridge of the Challenger, he was XO. The layout was different but seemed very efficient. He glanced back to where the Tactical station stood. He couldn't wait to get a shift so he could check it out.

"Come!" The Captain announced and waited for Kyle and Gohun to come in.  She'd decided that she was just going to let Kyle and Taray deal with the crewman, other than her asking the reasoning behind taking out phasers, an engineering kit and a medical kit (when there'd been a Medical CPO on the Mjolnir!) without being asked to.

"I'm glad that you have some familiar faces around, it always helps. Soon I hope we're all friendly faces.  And like I said, you can always come and see me but use your department heads too.  Ensign Ryder... that was your Department Head Dr. York with Dr. Briggs there.  Petty Officer here's Lt. Lek now..." she said as Lek came out of the room.

"If anyone needs me, I shall be in my Ready Room."

Outside the Briefing Room

Nathan gave the Captain another friendly smile, but said nothing so as not to take up any more of her time than necessary. Besides, his attention was pulled by the split second interaction between Kali and her new supervisor. That poor Ferengi had no idea what he was getting into. Although his smile shifted towards amused pride; it was Nathan's sense of duty that kept him from laughing outright as Kali hurried after her Lieutenant. With a small shake of his head, he followed the others towards the lifts.

[Medical Bay]

Although he had missed the lift they had taken, Nathan appeared at the doors to Medical not long after the two doctors. After a quick glance to make sure they had not been intercepted by any patients, he raised a hand in greeting. "Hello, Doctors. Nathan Ryder, Ship's Counselor." Although his words were few, his tone was casual and friendly as he introduced himself.

[Sickbay]

Arriving back in Sickbay, following the briefing, had renewed Liv's thirst for knowledge and to familiarise herself with her new work place. Although had to smile at Ruth's comment before they had left and it was good to know that her previous skills would still be in demand from time to time. As much as she was keen to move on from that, it was still very much a part of her DNA and she wouldn't exactly turn down the chance to bring them out every now and then.

Life was pretty good at the moment, her and Kyle had been together for almost 4 years, they had an unbreakable loving and trusting bond, which was only enriched by having Elijah and now was their chance to continue to grow, with their return to active service.

This allowed her to draw strength from those she loved as she prepared to chat with Maggie and do what was needed in terms of the mission brief. Things would probably get tough and she wasn't going to let anyone down. She was about to speak to Maggie, when the medical entrance opened and the pair were approached by the Ensign in teal that she had seen minutes before with Kali.

Being her usual friendly self as Nathan then introduced himself. " Pleased to meet you Mr Ryder, I'm Dr Briggs, although feel free to call me Olivia or Liv, you're just in time as I believe we were about to grab a cup of tea, before Dr York was going to introduce us to the other members of the department and catch up on what needs to be done".

[AS NPC Dr. Maggie York CMO]

Maggie smiled at the counsellor.  "Well we joke that we all need our heads examined, Counsellor but I echo what Liv says.  Welcome!  I'm Dr. Margaret York, but please unless it's official business or in front of patients then I'm Maggie." she held out a hand to Nathan.

"For all I have the Trill markings I consider myself Human, my father was Trill but I was born in Yorkshire, England.  And Liv..." she turned to the other doctor and grinned.  "I don't know what was in that 'Nebula' but I'm dying to try one, certainly perked up the Captain!  So... concensus of opinion... Nebulas or a good cup of tea.  I know they'll have to be virgin ones, we're on duty.  And I need to bring you up to speed on drugs, and the brain washing machine.  Specifically the drugs that Hecate has been peddling... you Mr. Ryder don't yet know a thing about either of these and I confess, Liv knows very little more than you!  Come into my office there are comfy seats in there and it's more private."

Kyle and Gohun entered the Ready Room as the Captain was talking to Lahr. He stood at ease in front of the CO's desk and pointed to his head indicating that he had an idea or two about how to find Hecate's ship. Once the conversation was done, he snapped to attention.

"Lieutenant Briggs and Crewman Gohun reporting as ordered, Captain."

Ready Room

Ruth suppressed a smile at Kyle acting all proper, as he should, but setting the best example he could to the Crewman.

"Come in gentlemen. Take a seat Lieutenant, Crewman remain standing as you won't be staying long please, I just want a few answers please."  It was a power play but the kindest one she could think of, it being akin to having a dressing down from parents.

She held up a hand as a 'hold on a moment' gesture and stepped out briefly to speak to Lt. Taray.

"Lieutenant, bring the ship to Yellow Alert as a precaution, Mr. ch'Verret can fill you in on the details of why!"  she dived back into her Ready Room and explained.

She quickly turned to Kyle and said "I have Petty Officer ch'Verret locating Hecate's ship, we have a warp signature.  If we know where she is that might be better for you finding a way to lure her here or intercept her."

She realised this was going to make the Crewman uncomfortable so she was trying to make this as painless as possible.

"Crewman, firstly - please try to become familiar with the layout of the ship, and make use of the LCARs, it will tell you how to get from where you are to where you want to be."

The Captain decided she wasn't going to rub it in that he was 45 mins late for a mission briefing.  He wasn't the first, he wouldn't be the last.  She was a little bit irked by this but she was more interested in him taking phasers, an engineering kit and a medical kit, and who authorised that.

"Secondly, who was it who authorised you withdrawing the phasers from the armoury prior to us leaving on the Mjolnir.  I'm asking because, and this is why Mr. Briggs is sitting in on this, it's a matter of lax security.  I don't want this happening on this ship.  If it was your own idea, I have to ask why and maybe schedule you a chat with Mr. Ryder."

Ruth paused and stole a look at Kyle to try to gauge the reaction to the fact that she was suggesting that the Ship's Counsellor take on this one.

"I'm also clueless why you thought you would need an Engineering kit, and a medical kit on a brand new Delta Flyer.  I realise that yes we were sabotaged, but as far as we knew it was a brand spanking new vessel, it had been checked over by Mr. Aune..."

She turned briefly to Kyle to explain.  "Lt. Aune, the Athena Chief of Security was on Innominatum last month hoping to learn something of customs security on a base." the Captain turned her steely look back to Zavrol.

"The Flyer has a toolkit, and we had CPO T'ealc... a fully qualified doctor in her own right was joining us.  I just want to know your reasoning.  I like to consider myself open minded, so you might have an idea that I've never thought about."

Ruth steepled her hands and waited for an answer.

[Mess Hall]
[AS NPC Hoshi Dradis, Chief of Flight]

Dradis had just finished what he was doing checking in all the spares that had come on board prior to leaving Innominatum, and knowing that he needed to take what chances he could, he took the 2 hours break he should have had on the end of his last break had it not been that they'd been ordered to be on the ship in 90 mins.

Going to the replicator he ordered several rounds of bacon sandwiches with brown sauce and a large pot of tea, found a corner and sat down to munch.

If Lek was suspicious before, the female's enthusiasm regarding plasma conduit upgrades made him even more so, as it was a thankless and miserable job that no one should enjoy.

"You are more than welcome to pull as many plasma conduit upgrade shifts as you like. I'm sure you'll find no shortage of engineers that will be more than willing to let you take their shifts as well. As for the warp coils, we'll see how things go with the conduits first."

I'm going to have to be sure I warn Gianetti about this one."

He thought as the two boarded the turbolift for engineering.

[Turbolift]

"If you squinch your nose any harder you'll develop another ridge there." Her grin was wry as she said this, as the turbolift dropped under them for the lower decks.

Turbolifts were much too silent for her tastes - maybe she could push for an installation of old-fashioned elevator music. Her mind of course continued to buzz light years a second, a product of her Vulcan heritage, but none of her buzzing thoughts considered that Lek was suspicious of her first day enthusiasm.

"I suppose you consider yourself amusing."

When the doors to the turbolift opened, he exited without further word. On entering engineering, Lek called out to Lieutenant Gianetti.

"Petty Officer Reyes, this is Lieutenant Gianetti. She seems to find conduit upgrades to be interesting, so you can fit her into the rotation, double shifts for now. I'll be in my office."

Lek left Reyes to speak to Gianetti without another word to work through the meatless endless datawork that was essential for any starship.

As Maggie introduced herself to Nathan and mentioned about Yorkshire, Liv smiled, especially as her new CMO then turned to her and spoke so highly about the Nebula and how much it had perked up Ruth. She couldn't blame Maggie for wanting to try one, so when she made a suggestion as to what they should have, Liv didn't think that tea would be their drink of choice. Still it felt good to get that kind of compliment, especially before they got down to business, in regards to Hecate, the drugs and the brain washing machine. So the offer of going to her office to do just that and be comfy, certainly appealed to the former Lounge Manager.

" I have to admit once you have a Nebula, virgin or otherwise, they do become addictive and I'm glad that I was able to help the Captain out.... but I think a virgin Nebula does sound good right about now, especially with what we're about to discuss".

When Nathan then replied and told them to call him Ryder, again Liv smiled, especially as he then shared with them, where he was from and how he was game for trying anything at least once. " I'm from Yorkshire too, originally but I can understand the lure of the stars and as a former Lounge & Mess Hall Manager, I always like it when someone is up for trying new things and you won't be disappointed" she said as they then prepared to move to the CMO's office.

Zavrol Gohun

Gohun being really annoyed at this point remembered that he was told that Starfleet loved red tape and other things of that nature. Signs having him stand up a power play for sure. Only the most insecure people would do things like this.
With no sign of this annoyance in his voice Gohun spoke. "Security personal are allowed two phasers per Starfleet regulations. If I was no authorized to have one the person in charge of supplies would have said no. As far as the runabout goes regulations also dictate that it have adequate supplies. While having the personal with the knowledge of the tasks is a help the tools make it possible for them to work. "

"Well, 3 Nebula's please Liv!"  Maggie said with a smile on her face.  "And you're right, it's not the most pleasant of topics.  Make yourself as comfortable as you can, and I'll tell you what's been going on."

The CMO waited until Liv brought the Nebula's and took a drink.  "Mmmm nice!  I can see many more of these being consumed." she laughed replacing the drink on the desk.  "Right first up the quick one.  Drugs."

She rubbed a quick hand over her eyes and let out a sigh.  "As Liv found out in the Briefing Mission as well as being on the trail of ex-Admiral Leyton, we're also tracking down a drug ring which we believe is connected, in particular a woman - Romulan - by the name of Hecate.  She was supplying drugs to Innominatum via a couple of young, pretty, model like girls who while they are trained assassins were rather out of their depth with the drugs, they are now there as our guests and under our protection."

The doctor paused and took a quick swig to wet her mouth.  "Thing is, the drugs that the girls had were basically feel good with mild amounts of ... I'd have to look at the exact files again but it acted more like valium... calmed people, made the susceptible to suggestions.  But not life threatening.  Well like anything - unless you were allergic to any of the component parts.  Well, long story as short as I can make it, Leyton and/or this Hecate person decided to up the game, and made drugs three times as strong and laced it with a micro-organism that took over people's brains too.  It is Dr. Jex's - he was Chief of Science here before transferring to the Disco - suggestion that the micro-organisms were in fact put there by Hecate, we didn't have her name then, that was thanks to Mr. ch'Verret and Mr. Lex peddling what amounted to a Tylenol tablet with a mild antidepressant that we developed as a rival drug ring, sent her goons to oust the competition."

Maggie sighed. "Well 2 people died with the stronger drugs, not just because of the strength, but the fact that no one had known of the switch, or the fact that the amounts of the drug, rather like arsenic were fine in small quantities, but lingered in the bloodstream, building up over the course of a few days, which with the fact that it was designed to be addictive...killed off a gentleman on Innominatum, and our own Cadet Peter Davidson.  They were smuggled in via the soil of some strobolin plants we have.  We seem to have cracked down on the drugs getting to Innominatum thanks to the efforts of CPO Maghouin on the station but we still have to catch Hecate cuz the drugs are a menace and she's working for or with Leyton, or possibly he's just a means to an end for her own agenda... who knows with the Romulans?!" she shrugged.

"But that's the drug thing... could I have another of these please Liv, they are addictive!" she smiled and let the information about the drugs settle in.

"How do you find it Ryder?  There is water available obviously if you prefer. Any questions about the drug thing?  I realise it's a lot to take in in precis form!  But we believe these could have been used in conjunction with the brain washing apparatus." Maggie added with a wry smile.

"If I were human I believe my response would be "go to hell." If I were human."
