Quote from: Nathan Ryder on October 15, 2019, 02:00:30 PM

[Sukal's Office]

While Nathan was not exactly surprised that he was correct, he was shocked to hear the Sukal had not taken a moment to meditate at all in so long. As Sukal stood, Nathan did as well. "Even if you had not decided to do so on your own, sir, I would have insisted on it. I will put it on your file that you are not to be disturbed for the next few hours at the very least. You cannot do your job in this condition." Of course he would word it as a strongly worded recommendation, not anything that would mar the Commander's record.

As Sukal continued on, Nathan could only nod his agreement. Especially when the attack is perpetrated by a telepath themselves. They know first hand how horrible an invasion a telepathic attack can be. "Of course, sir. I will have a series of time blocks set aside for you whenever you are ready. Until then I must insist you keep up on your meditations. I admit, I have not read your file yet, so I do not know how much sleep you generally require, but there still must be time in your day for at least one hour of meditation." While there was a note of concern in Nathan's tone, there was also a blunt firmness that implied he would not accept any excuses on this matter.

At a time when his Captain and ship needed him the most, and the Counselor had just relieved him of duty.  Not that he blamed the man.  All things considered, he would have likely done the same thing in Nathan's place.  He estimated that the starship was about an hour away from her destination.  There was little he could do about that now.  Nathan would have to enforce his command if Sukal resisted taking the offered rest, and that was simply illogical.  With a slight sigh, the First Officer nodded to the Counselor.

"I will do as you have instructed.  I had hoped to be on the Bridge when we arrived at the mysterious station, but I understand such is simply not possible immediately.  I will go and rest as soon as we have reported to the Captain on the outcome of our discussion.  Come...no time like the present," Sukal said quietly before heading out of the office.  He noted Lieutenant Briggs and Mr. ch'Verret at their stations, and it made him wince to think one or both of them thought he might have been brainwashed and turned traitor to Starfleet and the Federation he loved so much.  Still, he said nothing as he went down to the command deck, and faced his Captain.

"Counselor Ryder has relieved me of duty, temporarily, Captain.  I will be in my quarters meditating and getting some rest.  I will return in four hours to help with the mystery we are to unravel," Sukal told his friend and superior, and then pointedly glanced at Lahr's back with narrowed eyes.  "And, I would stay aware of how the Bridge feels.  It has felt...off since your trip to Sickbay.  Be mindful, Ma'am," he added just loud enough for Lahr to hear.  He wanted the Andorian to know how awkward he felt since the Captain's sudden accident.  It was, perhaps, just one more instance of how low his mental defenses were.

"'The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably.' Those words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie as wisdom and warning. The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged."  ~Captain Jean-Luc Picard:  2367

Kyle Briggs

Kyle stood at his station and continuously scanned the area around them in junction with the Ops officer. He was mostly keeping his eyes out for any thing that could detect them, inform Leyton of their arrival if he was in the area and/or attack them. He was barely listening to the reply from Sickbay but his full attention was drawn to Ruth with her announcement of him being Acting Security Chief. He hadn't expected anything like that so soon after returning.

"Umm. Yes, Ma'am." he replied just as the XO reentered the Bridge and quietly spoke with the Captain before leaving once again. Within seconds, Kyle's stationed alerted him to something ahead of them. He informed the Captain as he fine tuned the sensors.

"Captain, sensors are detecting a screen of security arrays straight ahead, ten thousand kilometers. I suggest we drop out of warp and inspect them a little more before we get too close. They could attack or signal help for all we know, Ma'am."

The Captain beamed as the two gentlemen gave their updates and Lahr shot off an enquiry to Sickbay.

"Thank you Mr. ch'Verret most appreciated.  And both of you.. I'd rather be safe, than sorry, even if that makes me look paranoid, I'm not taking too many chances." she added.

In due course a response came back from Liv.

=/\=Keep me apprised of her condition Dr. Briggs, and give her my best wishes.  If she's up to visitors after a bit of rest I could pop down and see her later.  Captain out. =/\=

Turning to the doctor's husband she gave a wry smile.  "Looks like you're in charge of Security for at least the next few days Lieutenant Briggs!"

Was it suspicious to the Andorian that the Security chief suddenly fell ill - putting Briggs in charge for this upcoming encounter?  Hell, yeah it was!  This could go bad in so many ways if he was right.  Lahr wanted to warn the Captain of his suspicions but he had no proof... it was just his gut reaction. All he could do was remain watchful and be ready to react when things came out.

Lahr, nearest to the Captain's chair and even closer to the Commander who stood in front of the Captain, picked up on the Commander's quiet words, surprised to hear that the Vulcan was being relieved of duty just prior their arrival at the suspected science station.   Was Sukal really being relieved or was this some subterfuge to allow the Vulcan to be some place other than the Bridge during their initial encounter so that the brainwashed XO could sabotage the ship?  Lahr's antenna twitched as his rampant fears refused to allow him to see anything but threat and conspiracy in those in Command - other than the Captain of course.

When Sukal warned the Captain about the Bridge feeling off, Lahr's antenna twitched again, getting the sense that the Vulcan was referring him.  It took effort NOT to glance back, but his antenna literally quivered.

He needed a way to keep tabs on the Commander even while he was stuck up here on the Bridge.  So concerned over this, Lahr opened a small screen at the bottom of his console and using his Ops access - after first double checking that Briggs wasn't mirroring his console, and locking that feature out off of his console - called up the security camera's and followed the Commanders progress after leaving the bridge.

Because his attention was on following Commander Sukal, Lahr was a few seconds delayed in recognizing the arrays spread out ahead.  He didn't want to believe that he might have missed it entirely but...  yeah he might have.  But Lieutenant Briggs spotted it.. and reported it.  Lahr frowned.  Was that part of some Leyton plan? Or Briggs trying to prove he wasn't a Leytonite?... or  more unexpected... was Briggs really not brainwashed?

NPC Lt Kiqqexa Taray
[USS Challenger-A  - Deck Seven - Sickbay]

Quote from: Olivia Briggs on October 16, 2019, 02:53:02 AM

[Sickbay - USS Challenger]

After a successful visit to the Daycare facility and leaving Elijah playing happily with the toy vehicles, Liv went directly to Sickbay, keen to catch up on what she had missed and begin her shift. She also had an opportunity to speak with Dr Rexan, especially about Lieutenant Taray and was about to check on her, when the call came through from the Bridge. For now she could inform them that she was stable and under Sickbay's care for a few days, the exact reasons would of course be forwarded on, in a more private manner once she had spoken to the Security Chief.

=/\= Sickbay to Bridge, Lieutenant Taray is currently stable and comfortable, she'll be under Sickbay's care for the next few days and I'll have a report sent to the Captain in due course =/\=

Once she had responded, Liv was then approached by one of the other on duty doctors who informed her, that Taray had agreed to proceed with the reimplanting as she wanted to keep the baby if possible. For Liv it reminded her of her own pregnancy and would do everything she could to help the Lieutenant. So she went to see her, before she was prepped for surgery.

" Lieutenant, I wanted to check in with you, before we prep you for surgery, the Bridge naturally wanted an update, for now I've told them that you're under our care for the next few days and you can decide, how much you want me to tell the Captain in the report later, when we update your records" she said gently as the preparations began around her.

Kiqqexa looked up surprised to see that it was Olivia who would be her doctor.  Taray remembered the many times the woman had served her drinks, never knowing at the time that Liv had been in training to become a doctor... so it was a bit understandable for Taray to feel slightly nervous.  "You know what you're doing right?"  then she sighed at her own ridiculous fears.  "Of course you do... you wouldn't have been assigned to the position is you didn't.  Sorry Dr. Briggs... Its a bit of an adjustment.  As for your report to the Captain... it's probably best she knows.  I don't imagine I'll be able to keep this quiet for long."

Lek hadn't asked the computer if Helga was alone when he'd asked the computer to locate her and he was annoyed that she wasn't, which wasn't her fault, but this 'Tim' was. He spoke softly so only she could hear.

"Honestly, I just wanted to see you. I know how busy you get during a red alert and I figured it wouldn't hurt to have you brighten my day with your amazing smile."

Lek beamed.

Helga grinned toothily back.  He was so thoughtful!  Without turning away from Lek's beaming smile, Helga called back towards her security partner. "Tim, the Lieutenant looks like he could use a 'Slug-o-cola' before he starts in on the plasma conduits.  It's draining work.  Run down to the Mess Hall and pick him up a can.  I've got the Armory covered."

Tim blinked and looked uncertainly towards the pair.  "Um.. but... I'm not supposed to leave my station.."

Helga's smile turned on a dime, becoming a frown and she turned towards the pale faced security crewman.

"Are you insinuating that I am not capable of looking after the Armory without you?" she questioned in an intimidating tone.

"N-n-no. It's just... " Tim stuttered, suddenly flustered, glancing towards the engineer as if seeking direction of what to do.

[Sickbay - USS Challenger]

Hearing the Captain's response to her update on Taray, Liv double tapped her badge, to acknowledge what had been said, before returning her attention back to the Security Chief. Although her reaction to the news that she would be her Doctor, was both expected and understandable, considering Liv's previous career and how everyone knew her as the Lounge and Mess Hall Manager. It was almost as if she had something to prove but in time hoped that she would be remembered for her skills as a Healer as opposed to her hospitality skills. Then again if it wasn't for them, she wouldn't be here and perhaps she had been a little hard on herself over it.

For now she listened as Taray continued, before the Lieutenant apologised and agreed to let the Captain know everything especially as it wasn't something she could just hide.

" It's okay, Lieutenant, its been a big adjustment for me too, especially from where I've come from in terms of my career, but I can assure you, that you're in safe hands and as for the Captain, its understandable and I'll include it all" she replied softly, as the preparations finished.

" Everything's ready for the procedure, so we can begin when you're ready".

[Bridge - USS Challenger]

Ruth's eyebrows went up and she puffed out a breath.  "Well, if that's what the Counsellor thinks is best that's what he's on board for.  I'll see you in 4 hours Commander.  I'm mindful that we still have Amoreen in the Brig and we're about to come to the Science Facility, but we shall hold off a boarding party until you're back on duty.  Rest well, your health is of the utmost importance."  The Captain smiled at Sukal and gave a significant nod of understanding with regard to the Bridge.

"Mr Briggs, with Lt. Taray incapacitated and my only other officer of equivalent rank in Security currently holding the fort back at Innominatum it should come as no surprise that you've been put in charge of the department as Acting Chief of Security and Tactical, quite apart from you Starfleet record. That aside I think you're quite right.  Get as close as we can without setting anything off.  Mr ch'Verret open a channel to the Tal'Bath and keep them informed in real time.  I've been thinking, those codesI think it was you suggested they were defence and sensors?? Thing is... is there any way to input codes externally?"

The Captain looked around the Bridge and yes, the feeling was generally of tension around the Bridge.  She wondered if Dr. York had anything in the files that Lizzie left about the brain washing device.  Ruth had long since learned that her gut was something to listen to.

"Just a gut feeling here, and you know Mr. Briggs from experience, that my gut is one to listen to, that this facility we are to be visiting holds some clue to the brainwashing device. Since it's inadvisable for me to leave the Bridge at this time or at least go far, I'll be in my Ready Room with Dr. York or Dr. Briggs whomever is available.  For now Mr. Briggs you have the conn.  Bring us out of warp helm and maintain a safe distance.  Scans as Security, Ops and Science see fit.  I want as much information on that facility as possible before we go in." with a wink to Kyle she said "And this time no one of the canine variety gets further than that turbolift door!"

[Captain's Ready Room]

Ruth sat and the first thing she did was wonder why the tension on the Bridge.  She felt that the person that was throwing it off, since both Kyle and Sukal had made gestures to that effect was Lahr.  She could pull him off duty but she knew him to be a very good Bridge ... she was going to say Officer, but he wasn't commissioned. Operative?  Either way he worked hard and she trusted him.

She would call him into the Ready Room and ask him what his problem was and see if she could fix it.  However now was not the best time, they had things to do and his best place was at his station.

So she turned her attention to the issue of the brain washing device.  She needed to see ALL the files that Lizzie left.

=/\=Captain to Dr. York or Dr. Briggs, could you bring all the files you have pertaining to the brainwashing device left by Dr. Vaughan.  One of you please, due to the security clearance on it.  And if I could have an update on how long you think Lt. Taray will be out of action. Sigurdsdottir out. =/\=

Lek managed not to laugh at the flustered crewman and having heard that tone from Helga himself, he took pity and replied sternly.

"You heard her crewman. That soda isn't going get itself. I'm certain if an alert occurs, I can assist Crewman Tragnar."

Tim gulped and trotted off to find the nearest replicator without another word. Lek waited until he was well out of sight before he leaned in and gave Helga a quick kiss.

"That's what actually brought me here. I did check, there aren't any plasma conduits near here. There are some on this deck, but none close enough to the armory to be important."

Lek was happy with himself for the unexpected visit as it seemed Helga was pleased with his decision to see her unannounced.

=/\=Acknowledged, Dr. Briggs thank you.  I think we'll all need large none Virgin you know what's after this.  Can we all escape to Risa and you just have a steady supply of them coming! Captain out! =/\= Ruth said with a chuckle.  It was small things like that made it possible for her to carry on.  Not the alcohol, the camaraderie between herself and her crew.  And being able to depend on them.

Soon, the chime sounded and she called out, hoping it was Maggie York.

"Enter!" As the CMO stepped in she smiled.  "Ah Dr. York... you were expected."

Maggie smiled "Sorry, couldn't spare Liv so I don't come bearing gifts!  Well unless you count these files..."

The Captain gave a wry smile.  "Rather, if you can help me find something out. I know you're scientifically, medically, fact driven and all but my gut feelings have rarely been incorrect."

"Oh I might have to put facts on reports but I've seen too much in my time to dismiss gut feelings, sixth senses and the like, so for now... I'll buy it." Maggie said with a sympathetic smile.

"Well it's this... the Science Facility, I don't know how long it's been abandoned as it's primary purpose but I'm pretty sure, as is Captain Hecate - long story for another time but suffice to say she hates Leyton, with personal reasons and is helping us - that Leyton has been using it.  And I or my gut thinks... as his brainwashing facility." Ruth said simply.

"Entirely plausible, it's rather out of the way, previously abandoned.  If I were Leyton I'd say it were a good place." the doctor agreed.

"I just wondered if there was anything, any little clue in the files that Lizzie left as to the numbers of people that had been turned, maybe the maximum uses of the device or something... I know, I sound desperate, but if the people are there, I'm not going to leave them there.  If it's more than our capacity for 'guests' then I need to arrange alternative transport to get those guys back to Innominatum and thence home, I can arrange to have a team of doctors and counsellors available for them."

"I can do better than that Captain.  There's a list, Admiral Torngate's name is the last name on it... I don't doubt there are a few more since then but we can project the rate they were turning and give an estimate.  Don't let's forget there was an entire ship of Cadets just blown to smithereens and there are others missing.  Since I found this a couple of days ago I've been going through it making a list and matching it with the missing persons list posted by Fleet HQ.  I'm surmising that the others may be the ones working for Leyton." the CMO said.  "I didn't bring it to your attention yet because I thought I could be barking up the wrong tree."

"And we were at red alert and I was incommoded by a puppy!" Ruth chuckled, "It wasn't the best time.  But tell me, have you come across any of our present crew on that list?"

"Worryingly, yes..." Maggie said and brought up the data on her PADD.  "Just 4 names though and it seems a little suspicious.  They've not been reported missing, so we can only assume that they are working as Leyton's operatives.  None of them have had a medical either either on the Redav or since arriving on the Challenger..."

Ruth's heart sank, she knew exactly which 4 names she would read.  Sukal had been right all along.

Taking the PADD the 4 names were those she suspected.

Cadet Mr'aarra
Cadet Pauline Martina Rosario
Cadet Kenyi Haihes
Cadet Andrew Olivia

"I'm going to have them sent to Sickbay directly after we're finished here, I want them checked out so their records are correct and then held in the Brig until we have a chance to talk to them.  I'll have Mr. Briggs post an extra security detail down there.  As for the brain washing device... we only have records up to when Admiral Torngate was taken, but it's a start.  Tell me Maggie, do you suspect anyone on board?" The CO asked bluntly.

The CMO shook her head. "In the situation we're in, and after what happened on Innominatum... I sort of suspect everyone.  I think if that's what you're asking because you've seen a shift in the mood of the crew... I've felt that too since we left, especially with all the new faces lately.  I don't have a way to conclusively prove that none of the crew are brainwashed other than hauling every single one of them into the Sickbay and looking for a certain set of variables that Dr. Vaughan outlined in her report on Admiral Torngate and her analysis on the brainwashing device.  I can however, tell you that Commander Sukal and Lt. Taray are not under any such influences, nor are you, since the 3 of you have had to have your minds looked at recently for various ailments."  Dr. York said with a grin. "You're just normally crazy like the rest of us!"

"Well that's a relief, I've always been slightly crazy, just ask my fiance.  But in the good way.  Well get the cadets into Sickbay.  I'll have Kyle send down a security detail to arrive before they do, once they're there you can call them down.  If they don't arrive after say 10 mins then contact Mr. Briggs and he'll send someone to haul them down if necessary.  I need you to decide who will go over on the away team too.  I'm going to suggest Liv or Nathan or both... but if you want to go I'm fine with that." Ruth said simply.

"Noooo, I'm sure you know having been a department head before getting your command ticket... the amount of 'paperwork' never ends!  I'm just as happy here catching up.  Let the younger ones have the erm... dubious honour!  Besides I want to catch up with Dr. Al-Hambra.  Is now a good time to tell you that I'm thinking of marrying him and staying on Innominatum?  I haven't told Karim this yet, but this is the plan!"

Ruth actually giggled.  "Never a good time to tell me I might be losing my CMO, albeit to a devilishly handsome Egyptian doctor!  Still we have Liv and Chloe so we'd manage.  I'm afraid we're not due back on Innominatum until Christmas..."

"Oh I'm not deserting you just yet, I have to get him used to the fact first anyhow!  And I rather want to see this Leyton thing to the end.  Then I'll feel happier marrying and settling down knowing we have a chance at a future." Maggie chuckled.

"Well, good luck.  Let's go together you can get back down to that lovely paperwork and I'll acquaint Kyle with the situation."

[Bridge - USS Challenger]

The Captain strode back onto the Bridge with a confidence she hadn't felt in a few months.

"Well the good news is gentlemen that I'm only normally crazy, Doc here says so.  There's apparently something in Dr. Vaughan's notes from when Admiral Torngate was rescued ... some medical doodahs... I'm sure Dr. York would elaborate.  But suffice to say, those of us who have been unfortunate - sorry doctor - to find ourselves in Sickbay not availing ourselves of the lovely company to be found there, have all had to have our noggins checked.  Myself after a rather exuberant puppy, Sukal after his attack by Lt. Commander Amoreen, and most recently Lt. Taray to find out what is wrong with her.  We're all clear.. at least of brainwashing.  So that's a relief.  I'm only your regular common or garden wack-a-doodle!"  Ruth tried to get the tone of the Bridge a little more bright.

"Mr Briggs, I have the conn."

She quickly gave Maggie a smile as the doctor stepped into the turbolift with a nod.  Then as she got closer to Kyle she whispered.  "Send team of 4 to Sickbay.  The cadets we got in from the Redav... all on a list that we found in the files of people that have been targeted or kidnapped, or brainwashed.  No missing persons alert out for them."

4 HOURS LATER
Assuming that the cadets were now in Sickbay, Ruth turned her mind to who to send on the away team.  If Sukal felt up to it he'd lead, if not it would be Briggs.

"Mr ch'Verret... how do you feel about being on the away team.  I think we could use someone with your unique skill set over there... but if you don't feel you're ready yet I'm not going to push you to go.  In any event could you please ask Captain Hecate to ready her own team.  How are the scans coming gentlemen... anything we should be aware of?  Any way of hacking into their systems?  Can we get close enough to scan for life forms?" Ruth asked.

"If I were human I believe my response would be "go to hell." If I were human."

Lahr acknowledged the Captain's order and opened a comm line to the Tal'Bath and informed them he would relaying updates 'in real time' and that to leave the channel open.  He then muted the channel to answer the Captain as she continued on to ask about the input codes.

"The thing about these particular codes, ma'am, is that they are remote access codes.  By sending out the encrypted code via a targeted comm channel and then tying in one of our auxiliary consoles to that communication line we can lock out and control the weapons and defenses of that station... assuming that's what the codes are."

When the Captain then chose put the newly appointed Acting Security Chief in charge - again, Lahr's antenna drooped slightly.

Under Lt Briggs orders, the ship came to a stop ahead of the sensor array 'screen'.  Ops, and others, began their scans.  Lahr went with the highest resolution scans possible - these took longer to compile but were harder to trick.

While his scans were running Lahr continued to monitor Commander Sukal, off in a corner of his Ops console.  So far the scans were showing the station as completely lifeless.  He reported this the Lieutenant.

But if he confirmed Dr. York's findings by someone he did trust.  Maybe he could gain a bit of peace of mind.

Casting a wary glance towards Kyle and checking once more that his console wasn't mirrored, Lahr messaged Ensign Chloe Davis... asking if she could gain access to the results of Commander Sukal's brain scan or whatever it was that Dr. York used to determine they weren't under Leyton's influence.   He admitted to Chloe that he didn't trust York... but that he would trusted HER word if she could get a look at those files.

It took a minute for Chloe to respond.

She told him that he was being paranoid but that she would try, and would get back to him once she had an opportunity to look.

"You can call me Kiqqexa..  or Kixa for short.  I imagine you and I are going to see a lot of one another over the next few days," the Benzite remarked with a bit of nervous smile.   Then thanked her for her assurances.  "I appreciate that."

When Liv said everything was ready for the procedure and that they could begin when she was ready, Taray nodded her head.   "Alright.  Then let's do this. I'd rather not wait."

Helga chuckled as Lek backed her ploy up and sent Tim scurrying away.  When he stepped closer to kiss her she made it easy for him by leaning her head down to accept it but where he seemed to be satisfied by just a quick kiss, she wasn't.  She recaptured his lips after his confession of his true reasons and continued the kiss a bit more lingeringly, as she stroked the outer edge of his lobe lightly.

"That's a shame, I could get used to you visiting for these conduit checks more often." she murmured against his lips, nipping at his bottom lip teasingly.  She was careful not to draw blood this time. That might concern Tim... returning to find the Lieutenant in nursing a bit lip.   Helga chuckled.  It was an amusing thought though.

[USS Challenger]

Hey it had been a few days on his new assignment on the USS Challenger. Last assignment he was part of the science crew on the Science station Nara. The crew and fellow scientist had so many complaints against him. Though his Captain was a great one, but the commander officer had  no choice to boot him out.

[Two months about on science station]

"No. No. Captain you don't need to explain," he asserted. He stood tall with his shoulders broad. Showing he was strong will. You need to have thick skin for being a Zaldan. "They fail to adjust to other cultures as mine. Possible my greatness was to much," he said in confidence. It was true. He saw himself very smart, intelligent, confidence, strong and many good quality to give a shining ego to annoy others.

Then he added, "They would not last a second on Zalda," he paused. If the crew had gone to his home planet their egos could be ripped up like a Cazzara flying down digging its long, sharp talons in their flesh.

"You have a good staff, sir. It was good as long it last. You will be able to relax," he announced. Sticking his chest out as he stiff up his posture as he saluted. Then he turned to leave without apology. There was no need. He knew he was not needed. Starship was to small for his ego.

He had to admit it was getting old. Least he was able to be transfer to one ship or to another. Possible the USS Challenger would be able to take the challenge dealing with him.

[present]

Standing front of the mirror as he was checking out his good looks. The eye glasses he was wearing gave him a unique appearance which he liked. He moved his head to different angles in the mirror. "Good looking always!" He said. His teal uniform has suited him to his well muscled body. Was the universe big for his ego. Nope.

Oh! He saw that nasty piece of hair stand up. Every day it was the battle of the annoying stand hair. He reached for the hair gel bottle, squirted a good amount in his hand, rubbed it in wild region of his scalp  to tame it down. Wild horses could not hold this sucker down. That was the one thing that would make him mad. He had wondered what Vulcans would do if that had that problem. Glaring at his reflection in the mirror. He waited for that hair to pop up. Go on. Make his day.

Taking another quick check over in the full length mirror he was perfect looking. He winked at his reflection. His ego and bluntness going to tear the Challenger crew up. He gave them six months. The good news, Jasper was not aware that USS Challenger has a strong crew. Something about this fleet of Admiral Kirok's has very unique crew that could be outstanding by others.

Cutting his visit his shared quarters, he quickly walked out of the corridor. He briskly walked down the corridor down to the turbolift. "Deck 5," he ordered. That the level for the common mess hall. He was off shift. He had time for food.

The turbo life had stopped first, the doors opened to the right floor. It would be funny it was the bridge, but that would be insulting to the engineering crew or ops. He left the turbolift and someone walked right into him as they came torpedoing around the corner.

"Hey. Watch out!" He exclaimed.

T'Varn was on break and headed to the Mess Hall for a bite to eat to sustain herself.  With the upcoming arrival at the Science station where the senior officers suspected Leyton himself might be hiding, she didn't anticipate that she would be able to get off shift on time.... Medical would likely be run ragged into the night.

Also on her mind was the unfortunate timing of the Red Alert earlier.  It had prevent her from doing her normal morning routine.  As such she was sporting a 5 o'clock shadow, which itched almost to distracted.  Logically she should just put in a request for the medical procedure to burn all the hair follicles on her face so she wouldn't have to concern herself with such, but emotionally - if she were being honest - the shaving was a reminder of her father - the one activity that he had taken the time to teach her personally how to do properly.   So for now, she placed the sentimentality at a higher priority than logic.

Distractedly, she ran a hand over her chin, rubbing at the emerging hairs trying to ease the feel of them and in doing so missed the arrival of the turbolift and ran full force into an emerging officer.

Reaching out a hand to steady both herself and the other, T'Varn grabbed hold of the others arm.  The man's loud exclamation ringing in her ears.

"My apologies. I was distracted." she commented calmly despite the man's obvious ire at their collision.

"Are you injured?" T'Varn questioned before continuing on the remark,  "I am a trained medic, I could assist"

"Are you?" He asked harshly. His dark brown eyes buried into her Vulcan dark eyes. She was smaller, but she seemed to have a five o'clock shadow about her face. He had never studied Vulcan women having biology change when they grow into mature age. Or possible she could had been half human. There was nothing to gain on telling her that. It was her body. Then she was fully aware of her own body.

Then he moved his arm away from her. "Don't touch me," he ordered and he took a one step away from her. He liked his space. Most people will say please don't touch me. Please was a word he hardly ever used. Liars were the user for that word.

Jasper had looked down at himself. He held his hands to look at his webbed fingers for any injuries. "I see no cuts. So no," he factly told her. Then he had observed her from head to toe. "Had you injured yourself?" He asked her.

The female stated that she was a trained medic. He was in training as well. That was why he was cadet himself. They both seem to have something in common. Liars or true socializers had called that breaking the ice.

"Are you going that direction? I had not visited the sick bays, yet," he announced to her. "I need to know where they are. In case another crew collides into me," he told her. He used his right hand web to feel his hair. Mister hair stand me up better stay down. He would not dare cut it off.

[Earlier - Sickbay]

[AS Dr. Maggie York]

Maggie had taken the opportunity to grab something to eat on the way back from the Captain's Ready Room, not knowing when she'd get another chance.  So far as she was aware, Ryder was dealing with things for the treatment of Commander Sukal, Liv and Chloe were about to reimplant Lt. Taray's foetus...

So it was with some surprise that she found Chloe bent over a console looking at Commander Sukal's records.

"Did Commander Sukal come back in, was there some problem.  I did say to come back if he experienced headaches or something..." the CMO asked wondering why Chloe wasn't assisting Liv.

"No matter, finish up there and I'll need your assistance if Dr. Briggs is busy with Lt. Taray's procedure.  Please go and prepare Room 3 for full medicals and I mean top to toe medicals... not the perfunctory ones we do to satisfy Starfleet Medical regulations to declare people fit for duty.  They are thorough enough but I want every test that can be done, done on these patients."

She waited until Chloe left to prepare the room and then called.

=/\=Medical to Cadets Mr'arra, Rosario, Kenyi and Olivia.  Please report to Sickbay immediately.  I will explain to your department heads as necessary. Dr. York out.  =/\=

About 10 mins later, they were all there Olivia being there almost as soon as he could have direct site-to-site transported, he was by nature very punctual.  Rosario and Mr'aarra arrived arm in arm chatting up a storm as they shared a room and were best pals. Kenyi as always sauntering in right at the point where Maggie was about to call Security to drag her in, she arrived.

She could see the 2 normal Security Guards down the corridor and hoped that shortly the rest of the team would be down, in case the Cadets decided to make a break for it.  Given that if Commander Sukal's assumptions were correct, Mr'arra was responsible for killing the Chief Engineer of the Redav, Rosario for an attack on Admiral D'Arth and the other 2 for sabotaging systems on the ship, she wasn't taking chances.

"I expect you are all wondering what you're doing down here.  Well, it transpires that you're due a medical, and Dr. Vaughn hadn't got around to it, then with one thing and another, I've only just found a spot now.  I'm going to wait until Dr. Briggs is free to assist then we'll get through you quickly and you can enjoy the rest of your day.  She's a little busy with a procedure at the moment but she shouldn't be too long.  How about you tell me a bit about what you specialised at in the Academy.  Cadet Rosario I know a little since she's in Medical..."

Maggie tried to keep things 'normal' until Liv was finished with Taray, she didn't want to cope with them on her own and she was rather apprehensive.

"If I were human I believe my response would be "go to hell." If I were human."

[Four Hours Later - Challenger Sickbay]

Despite the circumstances as to why Kixa was here, Liv looked forward to getting to know the Security Chief better whilst she was under Sickbay's care. But for now, she needed to begin the procedure as neither Doctor or Patient didn't want to wait any longer than necessary, especially given the sensitive and important nature of what was about to happen.

The noticeable absence of Chloe was slightly disconcerting, as she was supposed to be assisting but luckily she wasn't the only nurse available to do so. Still she would raise that with Maggie when she saw her, but for now her main focus was on Kixa. So with that in mind and wanting the procedure to be successful, Liv then began the intricate task of using the precise medical transporters to locate the fetus. Once that had been done, the rest of the procedure went as smoothly as she could possibly make it.

Finally taking a deep breath and feeling a sense of satisfaction as the scans confirmed that the re -  implantation had worked.Proud of what she had achieved but now it all depended on complete rest for the next few days. Still she was happy with how it had gone and believed that Kixa would go on to have a healthy pregnancy.

After the procedure, Liv had remained nearby, ready to check on her patient, whilst she compiled a report for both the CMO and the Captain. Then once the checks had been completed, would leave Kixa to rest.

Returning to her patients bedside, Liv smiled and spoke in her usual friendly and gentle, English accent.

" Kixa, I just wanted to let you know, that the procedure went well and the fetus is now where it should be, I'm going to let you rest, but if you need anything, please give me or one of the nurses a shout".

[Armory - USS Challenger]

Lek's entire body shivered in delight and as much as he wanted to follow her lead, he knew that even a dimwit like this Crewman Tim would make it back before he could follow up as he wanted, so he forced himself to simply reply.

"I better get going. I'm sure that red alert will sound soon and your buddy Tim will be back before..... well before we can have a proper conclusion to my... um... inspection. I will be thinking about you and you tell Tim he can have the slug-o-cola. It's the 'slimiest cola in the galaxy' after all. See you once this interruption is over."

Lek reluctantly broke contact and headed in a different direction than Tim took so he could avoid being seen. Lek returned to engineering with a beaming a smile and Gianetti immediately noticed and cornered him.

"What gives Lek?"

"Oh nothing, just happy to be alive."

"And I can bet I know why." Gianetti smiled, but backed awy, returning to his station with a knowing chuckle.
