Katra Station - Diplomatic Lounge -

Before the meeting was to begin, Beja made sure to contact the Tholian Ambassador. She tapped her com badge, =/\=Hello, this is Lieutenant Beja, Chief Diplomatic Officer of Katra to the Tholian Embassy. I wanted to be sure that an appropriate invitation was dispatched to ambassador Edyis regarding the function about to be held in the Diplomatic Lounge on Katra. We would very much like hir to attend the meeting if shi is available." =/\=

Beja typed out a message quickly to Zex on her PADD, "œPlease join the meeting in the diplomatic lounge. I'm sure we can use all the diplomatic assistance we can get."

Now all of the ambassadors had been invited to the meeting, and Beja made sure all the last minute details were completed. When the meeting started she sat down, and made sure that all the ambassadors cups would be full. Beja was not surprised that Director Boz was the first one that spoke, and bluntly as was the Dord way. It was one of the things that she enjoyed about their meetings and talks together. He spoke his mind and always got right to the point. She didn't know if it was a Dord trait, or the fact that he had researched Klingon culture. Either way, it was a nice change of pace to the normal intrigue and diplomatic language of most Diplomats.

The niggling of discontent did not come from Captain Solluk's words about the threat of the Wanderers. It was about the one missing ambassador that was not here - the Klingon Empire. Beja often wondered if Rayek's paranoia was rubbing off on her, but she couldn't help but wonder if the threat being faced by Katra right now, and the fact the Empire was not around was a mere coincidence.

Or not.

Beja believed in coincidences, but she didn't know if she believed this was one.

Katra OCC to Diplomatic Lounge

Zex saw the message from Beja and immediately replied.  "I will be delighted to attend the meeting.  Thank you for inviting me" she replied.

The Deltan said goodbye to those she knew on OCC.  Then she headed straight to Diplomatic Lounge.  She stood just inside the door.

She was happy to see the Numati ambassador there.  She offered him a nod.  Perhaps she could ask them to stay behind after the meeting for a brief conversation with Beja and Solluk.

Then her eyes went to the food on the table.  It reminder her that she had skipped lunch.  But as a junior officer she preferred to wait till the end of the meeting despite her grumbling stomach.

"‹Ensign Danjar-Torra Addams
[Katra Station - Deck 21 - Public Lounge] (a half-hour after lunch)

Guiding the Tholian back to their table Torra would introduce her shipmates. "These are Commander T'Lara and Lieutenant Said.  Also members of Discovery's crew. We're on shore leave at the moment.  What are you doing in the Gamma Quadrant?" the Grazerite asked, curious as to what would bring three Tholians to Katra station?
"‹Ensign Danjar-Torra Addams
[Katra Station - Assigned Quarters] (several hours after lunch)

After T'Lara and Nira left, Don and Torra had retired to their assigned quarters for a rather romantic evening alone.  Torra had just finished order a nice vegetarian casserole for them to enjoy when the alarm sounded. Torra regarded her husband mildly at his outburst.

"Do you think the alert applies to Discovery as well?  Do we report to the ship?" she questioned.

Last she knew the ship was uninhabitable.  She wondered if it were the same now.  She reached for her PADD and messaged her Department Head, seeking clarification on if Katra's alert applied to them and if so where to report.  She'd just sent the message on when a new klaxon sounded and a woman's voice came over the room's intercom.

=/\= Attention all residents, guests and visitors - the station is now under Evacuation Order.   Please make your way in a calm and orderly fashion towards your nearest Muster Area and follow the instructions of the security team assigned to that area.  I repeat.  Attention all residents... " =/\=

Torra was surprised to hear that the station was being evacuated.  It seemed that Nira had been correct that whatever had called away the Commander had been serious.

Torra had been waiting to hear back from Lt Leon, when Don indicated that they needed to return to the ship.  While he wasn't in her department, Don was a Department Head, if he said return to the ship that was good enough for her.   The Grazerite dipped her head in acknowledgement and went along with him to Saucer Two where the Alpha section of the ship had been docked earlier this morning.  She hoped it was still there and not tied up in drydock.

[[Holosuites - Bowling Alley - Katra Station - hour or two before MAIN STORY]

Don had turned to them with a unsure smile. That his wife would know as a dead on. It had made sense for him to go first because he knew.

"Fine," he replied to them all. "Handsome fellow like me goes first."

Took a few tries to find the ball which be a good match for him. Then he stepped up to the alley which was assigned to them. He forgot where he stood. Wait. He was young. How was he supposed to figure where to start.

Oh. Yeah. He stepped up to then fowl line and walked backward like he strides to place the ball. He was nervous because it has been a long time. Then he found the sweet spot. So he thought he had it. Then he lifted the ball up with his right hand and had his left hand to support his right hand. Then he had aligned his upper body toward the pins. There was the head pin he knew you can hit head on or you can slightly hit to still get a strike.

He started to go in the motion and he stumbled and the gravity of the ball had made him lose his balance a little. The stepping was all wrong. Damn it.

He smiled to the group. "Honest. I did this once," he was charming them.

Then he had decided to try something different he went right at the end of the floor to start there. Then he repeated his start up. One stride, two stride and three and four and ---BUZZZ. He over step the buzzer.

He sighed. "Then he turned to them. "That is second to a gutter. Don't do that." He told them.

Then he went back to starting point to figure he was to far or his timing of stepping was along wrong. He went back far and then he decided to try with left foot felts so wrong and he knew it was going to awful as hell. He was way out of practice.

As he got to the letting the ball go. He allowed it go before it supposed to but the fowl had not gone off. He took a few steps back to watch his ball roll down straight and then was starting going left as getting toward the far left. His face cringing as he saw the fail.

Please not the gutter! he cried as he thought. Then the ball had hit four pins on the left. Then the ball fell in gutter. He got four pins. Four pins out ten. That suck!

He turned to the group. "My excuse it has been a long time," he said being defeated.

Katra Station - Diplomatic Lounge

Solluk looked to the Romulan ambassador, wondering if he should try to finesse it.

No.

Under normal circumstances, perhaps.  The ambassador might even prefer such a dance at another time.  But not today.

"You are correct.  The convoy's survival will be enhanced by the strength of numbers.  The ambassadorial vessels are typically robust, tasked with protecting some of the most important members of a nation's government.  Not only will your survival be better assured by remaining with the convoy, but the convoy itself will benefit incalculably by having you present."

Solluk turned to Jadem, "My thanks to the Wadi delegation.  And I will be glad to make detailed files on the Wanderers available to everyone."

Kol spoke up, next: "If your convoy would benefit from our protection, then the Republic of Kahless is prepared to provide.  We are few, but we are mighty."  He looked pointedly at the Romulan ambassador.

"The Council has decided that while they will remain on Meridian," Tarin spoke, "I should evacuate to New Bajor with the other evacuees.  I regret the Meridians do not own any vessel that can help this evacuation convoy.  But I assure you that will soon be remedied."

Solluk looked to Tarin with some surprise.  By indicating his intention to be with the evacuees, he had given a signal to the other ambassadors that if they provided their ships to the evacuation escort effort, he might have cause for personal gratitude towards them.  Gaining the gratitude of the Meridian president might be of benefit to these nations at another time.

It was an unexpected assist from a normally less than cooperative man.  Of course, he had legitimate reasons for preferring a stronger convoy.

Solluk looked to the Romulan ambassador hopefully.  The Tholians had not spoken yet.  Perhaps if they volunteered, it would tip the political scales and convince the representatives of the Free State.

My Primary Shadowfleet Character:

Beja

Katra Station - Diplomatic Lounge -

Beja was glad that Zex had been able to join in the impromptu diplomatic meeting. Beja had made sure to make a little plate of foods she knew the Deltan enjoyed. Once Zex had been seated, Beja slid the plate in front of the Deltan with a smile.  Beja wasn't sure if Zex had lunch or not, but she wanted to make sure that the hard working Deltan didn't go hungry just in case lunch had been skipped.

Not surprising to Beja, the New Klingon Republic volunteered to help with providing ships for any protection that was needed. A smart move, not only because the Klingons could show the others their might, but also providing aid would help get the Federation to acknowledge the New Republic's legitimacy. A win win for the Klingons who sought a new path forward.

What Beja was not sure about is what the Romulans would say or do. She was quite interested in seeing just what their response to this situation would be. Beja was sure that the Tholians would join in the protection aid and offer up their ships as needed. The Romulans were the unknown factor.

Would the Romulans offer aid or leave them all to their fates?

"œGlad they are all together," one of Kal's team member said. She had a nick name Red cause of her red hair.

Kal nodded his head. "œThey all are together in there," he responded.

"œWe need to stay on our toes. The evacuation could give someone the opportunity to harm the ambassadors in there," Dav said. The other fellow.

"œI hope this meeting does not take long. It be putting them in danger," Cap added. He was a Blond hair individual.

However what Kal heard that Captain Solluk does things out of tradition by Starfleet and Vulcan ways. He had heard stories how he done things. Which explains why he saw a table with food on it as he had a quick peak. He had to agree. Dinner during evacuation was odd. But Solluk was odd, but Starfleet had seem to see him be fit for that position.

Cmdr. Tess t'Lhoell
[USS Healy - Bridge]

Fabiano arrived on the bridge. Tess was glad to have him here. Benjin was on one of the Cobra Patrol vessels. She would have preferred to have him here, too. But she couldn't preference just because he was family.
As Fabiano crossed the bridge to take the seat at the science console, he looked to Tess and Rayek with a silent question on his face. Tess caught it and understood. She nodded her head in response which seemed to be enough for him at the moment.

"Science is ready, all systems show green", Fabiano said after a quick check, then Security reported the same.

"Ensign Oloze, status of the fighter escort?" The escort consisted of 15 vessels - 8 King Cobras, 4 Cobra Class patrol crafts and 3 runabouts. The remaining 6 shuttles had been assigned to help with the evacuation.

"All show ready", Nadia reported back.

So far so good. "Open a channel to the Challenger, Discovery and the Tempest." Nadia complied and Tess spoke.  =/\= "t'Lhoell here from the Healy. Captains, we and the fighter escort are ready and standing by." =/\=

Rayek continued his rove about the bridge, moving from the auxiliary station to cross in front of the Helm and Ops stations before circling back towards the Command chairs.   He paused to greet Fabiano with a nod, glad that the man was here with them, but at the same time concerned about Saqa7.  He wondered where Hrafn would have her assigned to best help.

Shaking the thought and concern out of his mind, Rayek finally took his seat beside Tess.   He hoped she realized that by now his pacing about the Bridge had nothing to do with her ability to Command but more his own need to fully assess his environment.  He looked over to her as she announced their readiness to the other ships and Commodore Tekin.  He could see on her panel a vessel tracking signal and it didn't take much for him to realize which vessel it was.  The Wonderland - the ship that carried their son away from the danger that the Wanderers presented.

The Wanderer supercarrier was still on direct course for the Trialus system.   It niggled at him that the pirates were not acting in typical fashion.  Even if the ship had been hired by the Thinkers to attack the Condundrum and steal the tetracellium this was not the fashion they would have conceivably chosen to do so.   Everything about this situation, gave the paranoid Romulan the sense that it was a feint or bluff...  a distraction at most.   But long-range sensors showed nothing else... but that meant little when so many had access to cloaking technology.

Rayek used every sensor trick he knew of to search the Trialus system to any cloaked vessels but his efforts came up fruitless.

"Te... Captain." he caught himself as he spoke quietly to his wife. "There's more to this than a mere attack.  I feel that this is a distraction."

[Bridge - USS Challenger]

The hail from Healy came in just as the fourteen minute timer reached zero and Ian didn't hesitate. All but six of the crew had reported and he'd have a conversation with each one of them, assuming he survived to talk to anyone.

"Initiate five second burst from forward thrusters ta move us clear of the station. Once clear, fire forward starboard and port aft thrusters ta bring us around. Once we've come completely about engage one quarter impulse until we are a thousand kilometers from Katra, then full impulse for the oort cloud.

"Mister T'Kel, I want fifty photons staged in the cargo bays for kinetic launch. I want ta leave these Wanderer gits a surprise minefield for once they get past us. We won't likely be around ta see it, but I don't care how bloody large this ship of theirs is, fifty bloody photons will put a dent in a Dominion Dreadnaught's hat."

Ian then concentrated on every dirty trick and scheme he could imagine or find in the ship's database on ship-to-ship battles for anything that would inflict the maximum about of damage possible to a single large ship. He sent a quick description and video file to the commander of the Healy on the Thatch Weave maneuver, which might prove useful when the Wanderer mothership launched it's parasite craft.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hzq3944Xo9M

Rayek, seated now, kept watch on his armrest panel for updates on the other ships.   A chime at his console had him glancing to the file that had just been uploaded.

"Sir, Challenger has sent to us some Tactical Flight files." with a few finger taps he disseminated the knowledge throughout their flight team.   "I've forwarded the files on to the Cobra and shuttle pilots."  Rayek wasn't particularly keen on flight tactics but the Challenger's Captain was deemed one of the best Academy flight instructors so if Captain Galloway was sending along instructional videos then Rayek would ensure that Katra's flight personnel knew of these techniques.

[Docking bay - Freighter Wonderland]
While some of the people in their cargo area were quite nervous, his crew was the complete opposite.
Juraan, who seemed to have drunk too much and now had a sick stomach decided to administer some sort of hypo to himself, which only irritated Finn for a moment. His first man on deck, who was a trained doctor seemed to be great at treating his own problems....but that's where it stopped. Finn had to endure a painfully busted elbow for several days now.
"Since when do we have that."

Next thing he knew Cathy was flying into the cockpit only moments later as if she'd been standing outside,  looking flustered but happy.
"Where did you come from so fast? Sit down."
"Wonderland. You've got enough fuel to make it to the safety zone twice. You're good to go."
"Thank you." Finn told the female voice, then motioned for Cathy to take over and set the course.
"Flight control. We're sending over IDs of 139 evacuees plus 3 crew. We're waiting for your go ahead."

He then stood up and rolled his shoulders, which felt slightly better now, before he rubbed his hands together.
"Bit exciting, isn't it?"

Cathy was surprised to see the crowded condition of the Cargo areas on both decks as she made her way from 'closet' that was their Sickbay up to the cockpit of the ship.  She had so many questions when she arrived but Finn didn't give her opportunity to ask immediately... ordering her to take her spot in the co-pilot's seat.

She looked over the flight plan with a raised eyebrow as Katra's Ops contacted the ship to confirm their fuel status.   At Finn's motioning, Cathy set the course listed in the flight plan.   New Bajor.  What the hell was going on? she wondered.   Why were they transporting 139 evacuees from the station?  She had so many questions but realized in the midst of undocking was not the time to bring them up.

It was only after Finn opened the topic for discussion did she ask.  "What the hell is going on? Why are we evacuating people from the station?"  She glanced at the chronometer.   She'd only been asleep maybe an hour.. what the hell could have happened in that short amount of time?

The Wadi, who similarly to Director Boz was not shy about helping himself at the buffet, spoke next. "The Wadi are not particularly militant per se, but we would like to offer our assistance as well. After all, the games must go on", Jedem grinned.

As the Captain continued to speak it became clear what he really wanted. He wanted protection for the evacuation convoy. Jarok had not expected to be faced with such a decision at his very first meeting.

Silence descended on the assembled for a moment. If he was honest, Jarok was not particularly eager to possibly put his life on the line for a bunch of to him unknown people. But he also recognized a certain peer pressure and the possible advantages that could result from such an action. He looked over at his aide. Ideally, he would have liked some time to think about it and consult with Rhienn. But the situation didn't allow for this. He had to make his decision now.

"If I understand this correctly, Captain, you are asking us to provide additional protection to the evacuation convoy. We could move the saucer faster with even more tractor beam traction and get out of harm's way faster. And defend it if necessary." He reasoned. He couldn't imagine much in the way of a city ship. "Could you provide us with the data you've already collected. So we have a rough idea of what we're up against."

Since intel on the Numati were that they were telepathic (even if it were mainly just by touch) 'Rhienn' kept his mind solely in-character.  Jarok was astute enough to read the Captain's purpose and the Vulcan honest enough to admit it though as the Captain indicated it was beneficial to both.

As another officer entered, Zex the Deltan if his intel could be trusted, Telmuk was briefly disappointed.   Given the situation,  and the high likelihood for the Federation ships to be engaged in combat within just a couple of hours, there was the chance that Rayek could be killed before Telmuk even saw his brother.

Telmuk did his best consider how Rhienn would react so that eventually his decision to recommend to Jarok  go along with the evacuation - made sense.  He leaned in towards the Ambassador to whisper discreetly.  "We have much to gain by going along with this plan. Perhaps even offer to be the ship that transports the Meridian - though I suspect to avoid favoritism they will opt for the Federation ship rather than any one embassy ship."

=/\= "Nevir to Hrafn.  We're evacuating the station.  Have Ruthie gather the kids and head for the Tempest.  I have to report to Discovery." =/\=

[OCC - Katra Station]

Hrafn received Nevir's message and sighed.  She'd forgotten in the hubbub that was a red alert that her husband was actually on the station.

=/\= Acknowledged.  And good luck Captain Tekin.  Falleg-Tekin out =/\=  She hoped he understood that the brevity and professionalism was solely because she was in the OCC and on duty rather than anything else.

She turned her attention to the kids, big and small.

=/\= Falleg-Tekin to Commander Sigurdsdottir, I have been recommended by Captain Tekin to send my children to the Tempest.  In the interests of safety, and with them being cadets too, I'm going to recommend that your sisters and Sally McCutcheon join them, so if you need to contact them, that's where to do it.  They'll keep them safe, I know them all to be very capable young women.  Falleg-Tekin out.  =/\=

Hrafn realised, being CSO herself that Ruth was likely very busy herself and unlikely to respond quickly.  Next up she contacted the girls.

=/\= Falleg-Tekin to Ruthie Falleg-Tekin, Arya and Katya Sigurdsdottir and Anth and Sally McCutcheon. We are evacuating the station, to that affect please make your way to the USS Tempest, I'm sending the children, Crista, James and Ujosso there too so you'll have familiar faces. Be safe and I'll see you all as soon as I can.  I'd love to hear from all of you once you're back at Academy to keep an eye on your progress.  Please get a message to your fellow male cadets who came on the Discovery with you.  Falleg-Tekin out. =/\=

"And a partridge in a feckin' pear tree..." she muttered to herself sending one more communication.

=/\= Falleg-Tekin to Crista LePrant.  As you can probably gather, station is at Red Alert, please take the kids, yourself, James, Ujosso if she's there with you or please contact her, to the USS Tempest.  Ruthie and the other cadets are there.  Kids if you're awake, be good, make Uncle Captain Solluk, Uncle Rayek and Auntie Tess and Mummy and Daddy proud of their Junior Cadets!  See you when you get back.  Falleg-Tekin out. =/\=

Hrafn got a response almost straight back from Crista.

=/\= Crista here, we were just wondering where, bags all packed ready for any such emergency and we were all on our way down to the docking bays, we didn't know which ship to go on or if it would be escape pods.  Thanks for the heads up and so you know we're all safe I can see the girls up ahead and Anth, their duffle bags were pretty much packed so we gathered them up for them.  "We" are the kids, myself, James and Ujosso... the whole family are gathered, we'll be fine.  Crista out.  =/\=

Ruthie was the next to answer.

=/\= Ruthie Falleg-Tekin to Lt. Falleg-Tekin.  Received and understood, male cadets contacted, making our way from Sciences, we were already thinking of moving and we're not quite running.  Oh I can see Crista... we'll be fine, Mam.  Be safe. Falleg-Tekin out =/\=

Hrafn breathed a sigh of relief and smiled.  Having been brought up on ships and Starfleet bases the younger children knew how to deal with this sort of thing, the cadets were taught to deal with it, and they seemed to be doing so.

Zex saw Falleg enter the OCC.  She overhear Tekin communicate with her over the combade.  "Hi, sorry for eavesdropping.  Was that Captain Tekin?  I've been trying to reach him" Zex said to Hrafn.

Sirol tilted her head, and slowly returned his bow. It was a gesture of appreciation. She had enjoyed their time together, as well as their chance to exchange thoughts. And while there were - obviously - more urgent matters as of now, she did hope, that sooner or later their paths would cross again.
"œAs do you, Ambassador. Jolan tru."
With that she watched him and the others leave the docking bay and prepare to attend the diplomatic meeting.
Sirol just looked at them for one more second, until she eventually forced herself out of her thoughts and decided to check where would be her designated spot or person to report for duty.
She had not yet received a personal communicator, so the next best wall terminal would have to do, yet the second she was about to access it, she could hear a loud voice behind her; seemingly searching for her...

Raising an eyebrow, Sirol approached the man. She emitted a certain level of"¦ Nervousness"¦ Yet whether it was because of the current situation or because of her, she could not yet tell.
"œScience Exchange Officer here.
The Lieutenant's absence during a red alert is plausible. No offense taken."

The surprisingly long message Falleg-Tekin had prepared for this officer to relay though was quite curious, and hinted at some interesting personality facets of the Lieutenant.
"œBy all means, escort me. I would gladly get briefed and make myself useful."
She gave him a polite nod, then walked alongside him towards the next turbolift.

[Docking Bay - Katra Station > OCC]

"Oh great, um... follow me please.  How you finding Katra so far, not that you've seen much of it and arriving just as we have a Red Alert... not ideal timing... not blaming you.  Oh I'm sorry just... yeah, I'll shut up!"

The nervous Security Officer wound down like an automation running out of being wound up. Duly arriving at the OCC and giving a tight smile.

"Guess this is where I leave you... Gods this is bigger than I thought!"

[OCC - Katra Station]

"Jolan tru, You must be the Exchange Officer.  Please, come in, make yourself comfortable as one can during a Red Alert, sorry to be abrupt but... situation demands it.  I promise I'll make it up to you at some point but this is probably one of the safest places you can be at the moment.  Hrafn Falleg-Tekin, Lieutenant, Chief of Sciences." Hrafn offered and gave a curt nodding bow.

Spotting the Security Officer lingering she put on her best 'annoyed mother' voice and said "Thank you for escorting my science officer, but now unless you want me to give you something to do I suggest you skedaddle back to your duty station.  But come see me in Sciences sometime and I'll give you a guided tour of the OCC!"  She wasn't totally heartless, she remembered the first time she had seen the OCC, she too had been in awe.

"During a Red Alert situation and station evacuation isn't exactly the best time for a sightseeing trip!" she laughed.  The laughter continued as the poor guy looked like a deer caught in headlights for a second and then he nodded, backing into the turbolift and exited the OCC.

"Please, take a seat where you can." Hrafn offered to Sirol, then she looked around the OCC wonderinging 'What next?!'

"Yes, the spots DO go all the way down.  No, you don't get to see!"

Lt Cmdr. tr'Lhoell
[USS Healy - Deck One - Bridge] (half hour after meeting)

Tess watched Rayek roaming the bridge for a while, checking in on pretty much every console. She knew the situation was dangerous and all of them were nervous. Gaining as much information as possible was a way to cope with that for Rayek.

Seeming outwardly calm, Tess' gaze rested on Rayek as he finally moved to sit down next to her. She noticed him glancing on her console where she tracked the 'Wonderland'. When he spoke quietly to her, Tess turned her head to give him his full attention. A distraction? Her eyebrows furrowed slightly. "Just a feeling of yours?", she asked quietly back. "Or did you find something?"

Just as Rayek's, her own console bleeped with an incoming message. Tess split the screen to have a look at what Captain Galloway had sent them but at the same time wanted to have the 'Wonderland's route on display. She nodded when Rayek spoke out loud what their were looking at. "Thank you, Commander", she said after he announced to forward this to the fighters. Tess wasn't particularly knowledgeable of combat tactics, something she might have to catch up on. After the brief video she got the gist of what the Thach Weave was and understood how it worked.

[Wonderland ] (During station evacuation - half hour after Briefing meeting)

While some of the people in there cargo area were quite nervous, his crew was the complete opposite.
Juraan, who seemed to have drunk too much and now had a sickbstomach decided to administer some sort of hypo to himself, which only irritated Finn for a moment. His first man on deck, who was a trained doctor seemed to be great at treating his own problems....but that's where it stopped. Finn had to endure a painfully busted elbow for several days now.
"Since when do we have that."

Next thingng he knew Cathy was flying into the cockpit only moments later as if she'd been standing outside,  looking flustered but happy.

"This?" Juraan put the hypospray back into the small medkit. "Brought it from the station." He glanced at Finn, a teasing comment about the man being a sniveling simp on his lips. But he decided to stay nice. Although he knew Finn could take a joke. "Still hurting? Want something for the pain?"

Then Cathy joined them. She looked like she had just woken up which made Juraan smile fondly. He followed the conversation while they undocked from the station. "There's rumours of some really bad guys on their way here. Alledgedly with a ship as big as a city." Juraan doubted it. Although it must be something serious if the station's comman team make the move to evacuate the station.

NPC Ambassadorial Aide Rhienn tr'Hei (Telmuk tr'Lhoell undercover)
[Katra Station - Diplomatic Lounge]

Captain Solluk was absolutely open about his intentions. Since he had just met the man, Jarok wasn't sure if this was typical for him or if the man's logic dictated it to him.

The meeting was momentarily interrupted by an arriving Deltan and shortly after her the Tholian ambassador arrived. His gaze lingered a moment on the non-humanoid, which played a big part of him being wary of these creatures. He just couldn't help it.

Kol spoke up again, and Jarok met the man's pointed look in his direction. What was it in combination with his words supposed to convey? A provocation? A challenge? Those thoughts fled him though when it sank in that the man was a representative of the Republic of Kahless. It took all of Jarok's self-control not let any hint of his thoughts about that to show on his face.

His advisor, Rhienn, had first told him about the Klingon splinter group. That had not been so long ago. After that, he had come across all sorts of gossip about the matter. The group's secession from the rest of the Klingon Empire had become one of the hot topics in embassy circles. For Jarok, it was incomprehensible that the Klingon Empire had simply allowed this to happen without trying to stop the traitorous renegades. The danger was there that the Klingon Empire could fall apart sooner or later. Just as it had happened with the Romulan people. For other reasons, but it was unmistakable that his own people were divided. Wouldn't they give anything to reverse that effect?

What was also incomprehensible, indeed astonishing to Jarok, was the fact that the Federation allowed this splinter group to carry an embassy on Katra Station.
Jarok held the Klingon Kol's gaze steadily and only averted his eyes when a man - who turned out to be the Meridian President - spoke up. It seemed that the Meridians - unlike the other ambassadors - did not have a ship available with which they could leave. So they had to rely on help - either from the Federation itself or ... the representatives of another embassy.

Jarok noticed that Captain Solluk was looking in their direction again. He looked over at Rhienn as he leaned in and whispered something to him. The ambassador nodded inwardly, agreeing with him. In fact, the situation really offered some advantages for them.

"President Tarin ...? If memory serves. We would be honored to have you on our cruiser. Your safety will be assured." Then addressing the entire room. "And of course we will do our part to protect the entire convoy. As we know, in history evacuation operations have not always been successfully completed. The Romulan government will do everything it can to ensure that this one will be." Jarok wasn't out to dish out verbal sideswipes - although it maybe was. He wanted to add weight to the whole affair and put the Romulans in a better position.

Tekin Nevir

[Deck 1 - Main Bridge - USS Discovery]

It was a testament to his crew that even with a completely remodeled bridge, they were able to find their places.  A surprise he had planned for his senior staff, and it was spoiled before it was ready.

"I apologize for pulling you away from your leave... and even more so that this surprise we sit in was spoiled so soon.  But I trust that you will all perform your duties to the best of your abilities.  I'm sure some of you are wondering why the ship itself is so empty, and where our Chief Tactical officer is.  We received word that there is an incoming warship headed for the station, a giant ship, bigger than a Borg cube.  Our top priority is the station's protection.  We serve on an unique ship.... Discovery can fight with well below a skeleton crew.  In fact, she really only needs her Captain.  And in an ideal situation, I would be taking her out myself."

"But our refits are not yet complete, and many of the computers systems are still not online.  Plus... I made a promise that I would make sure Discovery always needed her crew.  So I made the call that most of our people will be assisting Katra, and the Tempest, being our main evacuation ship. Those of you here on the bridge, the refit team in engineering, Alpha hull sickbay are all that will be here.  We are going to be coordinating with the Challenger, the Healy, Tempest, and whoever else decides to put their weapons to our use, and we are going to be coordinating with our own hulls." he said, as the comms came in from the Healy, and Sickbay.

=/\= "Bridge to Sickbay, take the triage crew and report to the Alpha hull infirmary.  Everyone else assist with Katra and Tempest.  Captain out.=/\=

The ship shuddered as the primary Alpha hull connected with her engineering hull, and locked in.  Discovery was ready to go.

"Addams, you will be coordinating flight patterns with all three hulls.  Said, make sure weapon systems are tied to accept commands from the Main Bridge.  Felder is in charge of our crew station side, so today you are our tactical officer.  Torra, send an acknowledgement to the Healy, and coordinate communications with all ships.  Let Ops know we are ready to depart and need emergency clearance." he said, taking a seat.  All of the stations had a first for Federation ships; a holographic projection display to assist and augment the standard 2D panels.  Throughout the ship, the once secondary holoemitter system was now considered a primary system, allowing for personalization with a 3D display like what many private vessels were starting to have.

Once they received clearance, Nevir nodded.  "Alright, clear all moorings.  Helm, 5 second burst from reverse plus starboard maneuvering thrusters.  Angle us at 246 mark 7, and bring the warp core online... just the warp core.  We have an experimental drive that is not yet ready, so be careful.  Activate viewscreen." he called, as the front wall of the bridge faded into a more traditional looking viewscreen.  The Challenger and the Healy had both already pulled out of moorings and were maneuvering.

Solluk

Katra Station - Diplomatic Lounge

"...evacuation operations have not always been successfully completed..."

Solluk felt the weight of the comment, as the Federation had deeply failed the Romulan people in their time of need.  Evacuating heavily populated worlds was a very different matter to what was happening now, but he couldn't deny that he was asking the Romulans to provide something that had only been shoddily provided to them.

"It will be my honor to accept your invitation, Ambassador," Tarin said to the Romulan, "and this will be a good opportunity to become better acquainted with the Romulan people.  Sometimes I feel we spend so much time with the Federation that we miss such opportunities in the normal course of politics."

Solluk frowned almost imperceptibly at that.  The Meridian President was always looking for ways to reduce dependence on the Federation and Starfleet.  Understandable, perhaps.  But it placed Katra in a precarious position.  If the Meridians ever selected someone else to be their protectors, Katra could find itself disinvited from the system.

Finally, he looked to Eydis.  "Ambassador Eydis, all that remains for this meeting to conclude is to receive your word on the matter.  Will you accompany the evacuees, and lend the strength of your vessel to the convoy?"

NPC Lt Commander Haylen Magella & NPC Lt Randolph Sojourn

"We're what?" came the almost choral response from the assembled Bridge Crew of the USS Tempest, when the details of the incoming attack, and the plan to repel it, was brought to their attention. The Tempest was a veteran of many engagements over her illustrious career, but these days she had been allocated evacuation and escort duties - this was far over and above the experience of her senior staff. But they had all been selected for their exemplary record to date, and being assigned to a Galaxy-class starship was long considered a fast-track to being Department Head elsewhere in the Fleet.

None of that was of remote comfort right now. "That's enough." called Sojourn, cutting through the headed chatter. Magella was grateful for the immediate cessation of the cacophony - it gave her a moment to gather her thoughts. "You didn't mishear. The Primary Hull is to be disengaged and towed towards New Bajor by six of our heavy shuttles - I'm thinking the Tanngrisnir, TanngnjÁ³str, HeiÁ°rÁºn, Aithon, Phlegon & Eous - as fast as safe. All selected civilians are to be assisted with their embarkation. In the meantime, we're to prepare the Stardrive for engagement; boot up the Battle Bridge, and start running tactical diagnostics. I want an inventory of our torpedo load, and bring the results to Lt Sojourn; we may ask Katra to resupply us."

She looked at the faces before her - some scared, some angry, some steeled. She understood; at the moment, she was feeling all three. "I know that none of you were expecting this; I'm sorry. But I'm have you to ask you to face all this a little sooner than you expected. Dismissed."

The Trialus System

Gradually, the stately vessels of Starfleet gained their clearance and entered formation to depart for the Oort cloud.  The powerful Galaxy class engineering hull and the USS Healy formed up in the rear, with eight King-Cobra fighters in close escort.  The USS Discovery and the USS Challenger created the Vanguard, as they were the two vessels who retained most of their combat capability.  Together, the twelve ships and craft comprised the largest Starfleet force deployed in the Gamma quadrant since the end of the Dominion War.  In a little while, this collection of vessels would reach the inner Oort cloud of the system, where they would be able to intercept the Wanderers.  Every minute they delayed the enemy there was 700 million more kilometers that the evacuees could traverse in their voyage of escape.  Every minute they held the line, lives would be secured.

Blood for blood.

F.S. Unconquerable - Bridge

The General swiveled in his chair, letting his gaze rest upon Colonel Favala, his most trusted subordinate.  She was also his best wing commander.  His red cyber-eye glowed with ominous intensity as he weighed his options.  Until this moment, he had not decided whether or not to bring the Unconquerable into the fight.  They had been contracted to provide a distraction.  But they had also been told that they could keep whatever territory they claimed here.

It was tempting to push things to the limit, to take the Trialus system for themselves.

But... a dozen vessels were moving to intercept them.  Then there was the station, its orbital defenses, and its surface emplacements.  An additional structure orbited the Trialus sun, of unknown capability.

They might take the system, but it seemed unlikely that they could hold it.  And there was concern for why the Thinkers wanted this.  Surely, this sort of distraction meant that some larger, darker plan was afoot.  He did not want to run afoul of that, whatever it was.

"Take fifty of our attack ships and burn the name 'Wanderer' into their souls.  I am keeping the Unconquerable on this side of the Oort cloud.  If we are at risk of losing more than half of the deployed ships, return for pickup.  Once you engage the enemy force, I will send fifty additional ships in two groups.  One, to circumnavigate your position and lay fire onto the station.  The second will round the system plane and descend upon any evacuating force.  We will shake them from all sides, and make them know our fury.

...But we will not linger.  Do your damage, take our tithe of blood.  Then get out."

Favala held out an open palm, then turned the hand to face her body as she closed it into a fist.  "Understood."

Then she stalked off the bridge, to take the Byway Car to the ship bays.  This was the biggest engagement the Wanderers had attempted in a generation.  It would cost them dearly, but they would leave here with a fully functional and greatly enhanced Supercarrier.  The trade was sound.

And perhaps the powers of this quadrant would stop regarding them as mere pirates, and begin to understand that they were a true and equal power in the galaxy.

Swiveling back to look at the large viewscreen on the bridge, he waited for the first reports of contact.
