lt. Sven Aune | commanding officer's office|

Sven was glad that the admiral had left.  He didn't much care for the man, and he personally thought he was an idiot.  An idiot that had become detached from the nut and bolts of Star Fleet functionality.  It must be a requirement to make admiral,  thought.

He didn't mince words.

"Commander, I don't trust him. The fact that he had placed devices without our knowledge or consent automatically makes him a suspect.  And I strongly advise that we don't approach Cloten.  At least, anyone that wears a uniform.  What we need is an insider.  A mole ourselves that can listen in, then probe the rat with innocent questions about operations.  A rat feels most comfortable when they can hide in the safety of their own dark hole."

Zavrol Gohun

Gohun was excited to have something to do.  He was also excited about fighting space pirates.  But for now , Gohun needed to do repairs.  Gohun hoped it would not be like last time. The replicators took a very long time to fix. He felt like he was fixing for an entire episode, which in space terms is  a week.
Upon arriving, Gohun did what every technician was trained to do from the very first computer.  He tried turning it on and off again. When that failed, Gohun took a tricorder out and  scanned the console to determine that it needed a circuit board replacement. That's not good, Gohun, but Gohun had a solution.  Gohun had the computer beam one to him, and after five minutes of work, it was fixed. That was weird. If Gohun didn't know better, he would have thought it would be impossible for a station to malfunction this way.
Looking over to the backup ops. "Repairs completed."

The EMH nodded and got to work on the diagnostic while Cadet Rimous worked. The diagnostic showed something disturbing, but he waited until the cadet did his work. Finally, he saw that Sehila was stable.

"In all fairness, the poor woman was due for Starfleet Medical, but the pirate activity brought concerns that she would be captured or killed en route," he explained. "I think, though, now that some bigger ships are here, Ms. Sehila will be in a better position to be treated. Since there are bigger starships here, we can inform them to receive a new patient.

"However, I found out what the problem was: It's both, as you indicated. Somebody's tampered with the life support system of this biobed. Whoever behind it is clever enough to to pass it off as a glitch, despite making a remote shutdown. I need to let the officers know."

He then tapped his comm badge.  =/\= "Sickbay to Ops. Lieutenant Sehila's life support was hacked into and nearly cut off. One of our new medical officers saved her life, but I'm worried that somebody just tried to kill her. I need to transfer her to a starship's sickbay as soon as possible." =/\=

Doni Rimous
[Outpost Solaere | Medical Bay]

Doni let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding as Sehila's vitals stabilized. He stepped back, giving the EMH space to complete the diagnostic. The revelation of tampering sent a chill down his spine.

Doni nodded, processing the information. "It's good that we have more support now. Hopefully, the transfer will go smoothly," he said, his voice steady but his mind racing with the implications of the tampering.

As the EMH tapped his comm badge and communicated with Ops, Doni couldn't shake the feeling of unease. Someone on the station was capable of such a dangerous act. He would have to stay vigilant.

He turned to the EMH once the message was sent. "Sir, should we increase security in the medical bay? If someone could tamper with the life support, they might try something else." His tone was more serious than his usual demeanor, reflecting the gravity of the situation. "I'll make sure all systems are triple-checked and secure in the meantime."

Doni's mind was already cataloging what he needed to do: checking other critical patients, securing the medical bay, and ensuring no other systems had been compromised. This was no ordinary assignment, with potentially a lot of work ahead of him, but he was determined to rise to the challenge.

"I believe that's why I am here," she said. "Actually, that might work. With my...abilities, and my small size, I look like someone's child. If I can wear civilian clothes, and maybe a bit of makeup, I look differently enough that I can move around the station without taking too much notice," she said. It might work. "I can listen in. I can even fit into Jefferie's Tubes and the inner hulls and hoses if necessary," she said. She only knew this because that's where she'd hid herself with Leena during the Borg attacks.

[Commander Nira Said | Bridge | Deck One | USS Horizon NCC-75668-B]

The initial report in certainly told Nira that the Tolstoy and the Bennett put in some damage of their own, and Kela certainly had excellent news of two more ships coming. Fawkes' report, however, indicated that there could be a third additional ship.

"Stay alert, I won't be surprised if there will be more of those K'Tingas," Nira replied.

The initial volley from V'Larinn took out the tractor beams and engines of the K'Tingas as easily as a butter knife to a slab of butter. The three cruisers were adrift, and instantly, the Birds of Prey turned around to make toward the Horizon.

"Well. They must've learned too late regarding overconfidence,"
Nira said. "They really were ignoring us, or slow to react to us. Well. If the K'Tingas are more important, then we'd best take care of those Birds of Prey. V'Larinn, spread of quantum torpedoes on the T'Lisses, let's wrap this up."

And the torpedoes were away and the antiques blown apart. Unfortunately, the three hidden ships revealed themselves at that moment: Two more Birds of Prey and a K'Tinga on their six.

A moment later, though, the Orlov and the Carolina appeared, and the Carolina lined up behind the K'Tinga in a looming way.

Naturally, the fight didn't last any longer. There was no chance for retreat this time. The Orlov downed the weapons of the new cruiser instantly and seized it. The Carolina, meantime, settled for the two Birds of Prey. Nira was sure, if it was a Centaur class of a hundred and fifty years ago, two T'Lisses would've been a handful. She smiled at what a victory was brought today.

"Ms. Aubrey, choose one of the marked cruisers and send your choice to Mister Nelois to lock a tractor beam on," Nira ordered. "Ensign, standby for one of Ms. Aubrey's selections, and also prepare to transport the crew of that ship to the Horizon's brig. Lieutenant Addams, get us in proximity to the downed cruisers. Once we have a cruiser locked on, we'll take it back with us to Solaere before we head for the big convoy; a show of victory will certainly be a morale booster especially to the civilians of the station. Lieutenant Fawkes, Mister Therem, check for more tachyons so we don't get any more surprises."

| Lt. JG Fawkes | Science Officer | Bridge | Deck One | USS Horizon NCC-75668-B |

Fawkes watched the battle unfold on the viewscreen, pleased that the enemy ships were dispatched post haste. Her heart skipped a minor beat as the Birds of Prey and a K'Tinga decloaked, but the enemy ships met their end nearly as soon as they appeared with help from friendlies.

"Scanning for tachyons on widest possible spread,"
Charlotte replied to Said's order. As nothing returned on her console, she shook her head. "Negative tachyon build-up, Commander. That appears to be all of them." The newly christened Lieutenant Junior Grade wondered if the pirates were overconfident or desperate. The enemy's almost casual attack indicated the latter, but Fawkes still wondered. Nevertheless, the Horizon performed exceptionally well and proved herself invaluable for the future. And as they were on the same detail, Fawkes gave Thereum a enthusiastic thumbs up on a job well done.

[As Lt. Don Addams on Bridge, USS Horizon]

"The cargo must be worth risking their life," Don replied when Nira mentioned they were ignoring them.

"Aye, aye, Cap," Don said, straightening his posture and gripping the controls with a steady hand upon receiving the order to bring them to the downed cruiser. A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth; he relished the challenge because it was a skill every pilot should have. His eyes narrowed in concentration, scanning the surroundings for any signs of trouble. Known for being the best pilot, Don's fingers danced over the controls, ready to execute any necessary tactical maneuvers. He kept his jaw clenched, muscles tense, as he prepared for whatever could be thrown at them.

[Ready room]

"Indeed. We're going to have to go out of uniform for this one, I think. Not that it will help me much, since Cloten  unfortunately knows me as the Commander and all, but it probably will  be for the best that we retain a low profile. " said Kinley.

Looking at Feeva, she nodded, feeling just a bit embarrassed at her little faux pas. She had totally spaced on the morals involving empathic reading and all that when asking. "I understand, Feeva. I don't want to do anything you're uncomfortable with,  If you can catch something when you're around and trying to find them , that's great, but don't feel pressured to if you don't want to. "

She got back to business. "That's a good question. I'm no psychologist, but I assume they'd be very focused on not being noticed and probably lurking around in the Jeffries much more than most people. Maybe even they have old clearance codes or some special device to hack in. At least, that's what I'm guessing. They probably have some kind of ulterior motive to be here at least for the past couple weeks to months, maybe."

She nodded to Sven as he voiced his concerns. They were valid, for sure."I understand your feelings there. We can't rule him out completely, but I don't think he's involved in this on the part of the pirates. If anything, he's offered his support and some extra ship power to bolster the weapons. It could still be a lie, but if he's sided with the pirates, he's a dang good traitor on both sides, I think. The codes scrambling things are mine, however, not his, so I think we should be secure."

She nodded. "Good plan. Let's get one of the barkeeps on our side. If you need to bribe someone, I can authorize some platinum for you guys to use. Just in case.  "

She looked to them before dismissing them to get ready, She wasn't anticipating going undercover on her own station, but she didn't want this to go out to just anyone while she just sat in Main Ops.

heading out to Main ops, she nodded to Torra. "I'm going to be going out. Would you take the conn and keep an eye on things? Keep me updated if things need my help?' She asked,  then mentally facepalmed. There wasn't any "conn" in a bustling Operations center, talk about awkward.

[Cloten's Bar]

The bar was busy, with the usual clientele of people; Both Starfleet and otherwise all mingled together in one rather bustling. it still looked kind of dingy and half-baked, but at this point, it was part of the "charm" of the place.  Kinley would have to admit, besides her "official" visits to make sure that he was being an "upstanding citizen" and actually keeping in line, she rarely bothered to visit. She didn't like alcohol, real or otherwise, and much preferred caffeinated sodas as her "poison" of choice when she did. (which Nils did better, in her honest opinion)

She gave a grin to the bartender. She hadn't seen them before, but with more people coming and going  she had to admit, she didn't really know everyone here. "Hey there, could I get a Shirley Temple?" she asked. That was a pretty safe thing she liked to order when she was here. "...And if you could, could I ask you to get the Boss of this place? I promise to make it worth the while."

Another blip? %$@! The mole hit the panel of their PADD in frustration. This old scrap pile of a station had way too many redundancies and obsolete computers to get any decent non-garbled recordings here.

However, they had encountered something in Main Operations; They had launched their new ship far ahead of schedule. Something to let the Captain know. They would find something very interesting indeed...

Torra was impressed with how swiftly Gohun responded to her call.

While the engineer went to work on figuring out the issue, Torra fielded several concerned calls from docked ships and civilians that had noticed the Horizon's rapid departure.  Torra was concerned that if she answered the calls with complete honesty that it might panic the people - especially so soon after the station itself was attacked.  Torra needed to speak honestly yet with discretion.

=/\= "We appreciate your concern and vigilance, Mr.  Johansen." Torra replied calmly to the man's worried query as to why the ship had left in such a hurry.  "The Horizon has gone to help escort in an approaching convoy." =/\=

Her words and gentle tone seemed to sooth some of his fears and he soon closed the comm after indicating that he'd have felt safer with the USS Challenger still in the area.  Torra dipped her head slight at the comment.  =/\= "You and I both.  But the Reve... the USS Horizon is a good ship and packs a fair punch for her size.  Trust me, I know.  I had been assigned to one for most of last year. " =/\=

By the time she finished with answering calls, Gohun was done.

"Thank you, Mr. Gohun.  Sorry to have pulled you away from your other tasks."

Torra signed off the auxiliary console and returned to her main station, just in time for Commander Kinley and the others to emerge from the Commander's office.

[Lt. JG JB Dersch | Outpost Solaere - Security - Remdail Learning Room]

JB sat calmly in the dimly lit room, the soft glow of the computer screen illuminating his face as he immersed himself in the file before him. It was a thick stack of papers, detailing the intricate hierarchy of command within their organization.

As he read through each page, JB couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia for a time when things were simpler. He remembered when he first learned the chain of command, when everything seemed so straightforward. But now, in the aftermath of recent events, he found himself needing to re-learn it all over again.

With furrowed brows, JB studied the diagrams and text, refreshing his memory on the various levels of authority and the relationships between them. It was a daunting task, but one that he knew was necessary if they were to move forward and rebuild the trust that had been broken.

As he delved deeper into the file, JB couldn't help but reflect on the challenges that lay ahead. He was alone in this endeavor, with no one but himself to rely on. But he was determined to master the chain of command once again, no matter how long it took or how difficult the journey may be. With a silent resolve, he whispered to himself, "Whatever it takes, I will get through this."

[Bundle of confused nerves | Bridge | USS Horizon]

The Horizon was by far the newest ship she had ever been on, it was almost disconcerting.
With the inertial dampeners running at peak efficiency (being new helped) the motion of the ship even during a banking manoeuvre wasn't noticeable.  Admittedly she had spent a long time with dodgy grav plates, but it still niggled.
When the order to fire was given - She did her best to keep the locks from drifting, fingers dancing (but not to any standard that an academy trained officer would respect) she managed to compensate for a shift in the harmonics from one of the older ships - but in reality had little effect on the end result.

"Mister Nelois, Recommend Target reference A2.  It's in the best condition and might provide subsequent use beyond scrapping"
Then a short moment of contemplation
"Captain, The Brig only holds 4.  Shall I rig the cargo hold to act as an overflow?"

"Captain, The Brig only holds 4.  Shall I rig the cargo hold to act as an overflow?"

[Commander Nira Said | Bridge | Deck One | USS Horizon NCC-75668-B]

Nira blinked. She forgot about the size of the brig in an Aquarian class yacht. "Ah. Of course. I guess I forgot about how big it was," she giggled at her mistake. "Thanks for the heads-up, Ms. Aubrey. V'Larinn, arrange the cargo hold into an overflow, but put the four most prominent officers in the brig. I'll want to have words with them later. Mr. Nelois, open a channel with the lead Andorian ship."

Once the comm was on (the comms on the Andorian ship were so that it was audio only), Nira called, "This is Commander Said of the Starship Horizon. Is everybody all right on there?"

"Rhooz! That was a close one!" wheezed the voice of the captain. "And what's the Horizon?"

"The new attachment starship of Outpost Solaere, formerly Outpost Seven," Nira explained.

=/\= "Well, it's about time,"  =/\= the voice breathed.

"If I may inquire, what are you transporting?"

=/\= "Cold storage for Oaish'le, to help with refrigeration, among other things. We were barely out of Shran'Vil, with the Tolstoy and the Bennett as escort, when we got jumped by these greenskins." =/\=

"Did you say Shranville?" Nira said with an amused scoff.

=/\= "Believe it or not, it's named after the founder of the colony, Arotheth Shran'Vil. We get the jokes all the time, Commander, followed by people wondering if there's a Shranburg or a Shrantropolis. Poor Shran himself must be turning in his grave through all those puns. It's an Andorian colony and it's just as old as New Jericho, but at least we have sympathies for the poor refugees." =/\=

Nira raised an eyebrow. So it's possible the colonists of Ciden X, including the Andorian colonists, could be potential allies where they found none - or rather, unfriends if not enemies - in New Jericho.

"Well, I'm glad to see there are people sympathetic to the Romulans of Oaish'le, and I applaud your humanitarian aid," Nira said.

=/\= "A good portion of us; we're never involved in too many affairs of the pinkskins of New Jericho. Unfortunately, we're not as big as New Jericho, if not obscure, and we don't have too many resources to share, that's why it took so long." =/\=

"All the same, the help is appreciated, Captain...?"

=/\= "Arotheth, actually,"  =/\= the captain replied. =/\=  "Arotheth XX," =/\= addressing himself as Arotheth the Twentieth.

"Captain Arotheth, then. I'm glad you can help. Horizon out."

The Horizon took the best conditioned yet disabled ship and brought it back to Solaere, along with the other towed K'Tingas. The displays were enough that trade ships launched firework warheads, albeit for a brief moment; it was their gesture to indicate celebration at the first win against the pirates. The briefness indicated that it was a celebration for the win, but the confrontation with the pirates was not over yet.

The Tolstoy proceeded to escort the Andorian ships down to Oaishl'e at the planet below, along with the Orlov; the Carolina then broke off tractor beam and she and the Bennett proceeded off at a heading toward the convoy, followed by the Quagmire and the Endurant. Nira can understand if they wanted to protect the two smaller ships in case of a pirate ambush, despite the pirates' choice of ships.

JB sent a quick message to Nira stating he was on Deck 2 if he was needed and begun to read through the Weapon Locker Files.

A comm call from Solaere came, and Nira raised an eyebrow. Dersch had returned. And he requested some time aboard the Horizon as he finishes his remedial studies. She gave her permission for him to come aboard; she decided it was ample time he returned to a more finer duty and responsibility, ready to return to more active duty. Still, she hoped his duties will restore her trust in him.

A new message from Dersch told Nira he was aboard and at the Security Section. She made a call: =/\=  "Bridge to Lieutenant Dersch: Once you're finished with your task in the Security section and getting to know the layout, report to Tactical. It shouldn't take long for you to get to know the Horizon, you'll find most of the layout is similar to the Revenant." =/\=

She looked around to V'Larinn and said, "Mister V'Larinn, commence the transfer of prisoners to Solaere, but keep the pirates in the brig so I can question them en route to the convoy. Keep transporter lock with Solaere, even at warp, until the prisoners in the cargo bay are transferred off. Lieutenant Addams, set course for the convoy, following the course of the four departing ships. Proceed at full impulse and punch it to Warp Six once we're clear of the Ciden IV's magnetic field.

"Ms. Aubrey,"
Nira said, turning to Lindsay, "I felt a reaction in your analysis; I think you identified one of the groups of pirates at least. Can you send me what you know?" she asked, pulling up a holographic screen from her chair, ready to receive in formation. And then she remembered something.

"Lieutenant Fawkes, that asteroid you found last night, can you scan for it and determine its projected course through the Ciden System, please?"

[Deej Cloten | The Jackal | The Promenade | Deck Ten | Outpost Solaere]

The screens were up and applause was going as the clientele cheered on the new corvette bringing back some pirates. Cloten had heard word, and the screens showing the different races and shows and whatnot changed to show the outer view of Solaere. Cloten couldn't help but feel elated with them, though he flinched at the cheers, his ears sensitive as it is.

More to the point, it was the first time he got a good look at a pirate emblem, and it was the first one he recognized: The mark of the Khalas Family. One of the most powerful crime families in the Syndicate.

"The hell kinda price were they given to get involved with this?"
he asked in wonderment. In fact, he hadn't heard from the Khalas since he was barely getting into his own stride at a young age.

He picked a good time to step out of his office and talk with customers. He turned to see Commander Garrison at the bar, inquiring of the new bartender...except that bartender wasn't so much new as she was temporary. He hired Osiris Kingston shortly after Lindsay Aubrey, but he knew perfectly well it was a temporary arrangement until she can set up her own business, and he had a good idea, given her past expertise, that it was going to be a more honest establishment than his.

New competition coming, he thought to himself whenever he saw Osiris. But the presence of Commander Garrison must mean something's up.

He caught the words she spoke as he approached and said, "You ain't going to need to look far for the boss." He sat opposite Garrison and said, "'Ris? One Tulaberry on the rocks. Put both 'poisons' on my tab. Now, Little Orphan Annie," he said, his nickname in regards to how youthful Garrison looked, "what can I do for you this time?"
