[Stationside -> Main Ops]

Returning to the station, Kinley noticed an odd bustle of activity in the area. "Um., Lieutenant Addams, Nira,  what's going on?"

"Well, we'll see what Starfleet Security has on this Palstine..."

"It ain't his name, his real names is Jimmy Koto," Cloten interrupted.

"Interesting...well, we can compare notes. Meantime, wait by Lieutenant Addams," said Nira, smirking a little. Cloten looked back and forth between Nira and Torra, and reluctantly did so...leaning about a meter away, looking very much cowed. He kept looking back at Torra, specifically her horns, once in a while, altogether looking very nervous. Nira, meanwhile, checked the position...it was at Suvin's home...

When Cloten was directed to wait over by her, Torra for a moment wondered why she was being put in the role of babysitter?  His reaction however, made it clear why.  The Grazerite didn't like being feared.

The data from Dersch came in. Accurate, coming from Dersch's...privateers, given he mentioned they worked under Federation law. As she started reading, she ordered, "Computer, transmit EMH Mark XII to Ops and activate."

The EMH then appeared with, "Please state the nature of the...what now?"

"Ambassador Suvin's dead. Dersch sent the details, but I think more details will come from Lieutenant Aune soon..."

The door to Ops opened and she saw Kinley arrive and give her question. Cloten, from a meter from Torra, said in a frightened squeak, "Hello, Little Orphan Annie."

Hearing the Antican's mocking nickname, oddly spoken in a frightened squeak had Torra frowning towards the criminal - making good use of his fear.  She turned in her chair and lean over towards him. "You will address the Commanders of this station with respect, or I'll find any number of ways to make it difficult for you to earn a profit - illegal or otherwise - Mr. Cloten." she remarked quietly, so that her words were only heard by him.

Quote from: Nira Said on April 17, 2024, 04:40:20 PM

Nira began telling Kinley what has been going on, getting her up to speed. Meanwhile, the EMH was staring, brow furrowed: Suvin was suffering from blade wounds, made to look like results from self harm, except the wounds were far too recent. Suvin was eventually killed from the shock, killed from the constant slashes. It was undoubtedly the same as Sot's death, but he will need an autopsy on the body to make sure.

Savar, meanwhile, waited until Nira was done talking to Kinley, and then he asked, "Excuse me, Commander Garrison, but since you're back, does that mean Ensign Fawkes will have returned with you?"

At Torra's station, the files and the more in-depth reports from Admiral Grayson on Palstine...or rather, Jimmy Koto, came in from Admiral Gillespie. In addition was a note: I gather Mister Koto is in your sector?

A chime at her station alerted her to incoming information and Torra returned her attention back to her console, making sure her body blocked the information from Cloten's view.

"Commanders, Admiral Gillespie has sent information on Mister Koto which I am forwarding to your PADD's now...".  A moment later both Commanders had the files and reports on their personal PADDs.   "He's surmising that Mister Koto is in our sector.  Do you wish to reply?"

Quote from: Therem Estraven on April 18, 2024, 08:56:16 AM

[Planetside - New Jericho Well]
Therem followed Talinn out to the colony's water supply, curious to see what the Federation had provided them. However, he was a little disappointed to see it wasn't ultra high tech.

"I thought it would be made from diamonds and lasers with how the governor talked about the fancy water. Oh well, let's take a look."

Pulling out a tricorder modified for testing his mine's well water, Therem began to scan the well. He used the device to scan the water, pipes, well walls, and even the air above the well. Afterwards, he turned his attention to the water storage container, scanning the pipes, water, and material. The device beeped after each scan, and began to compute it's findings on the small screen.

"I usually use this to make sure no chemicals or minerals are escaping my mines, so it should work here. Hopefully no one freaks out when they find out there is natural fluoride in the water..."

[New Jericho Well | New Jericho Colony | Ciden IV]

The scans Therem worked on began showing something interesting: The water was filtered in a way to enhance the taste of the water at one of the wells at New Jericho. It mostly owed to how each well had a filter and treatment system.

However, the scan also began picking up something in the water. The scan detected the cholera bacteria in the water...but there's something off with it, as opposed to how cholera normally is...

Sitting at a bar with veranda, just along a wall by the window, so that she would be hidden in the shadows, a customer was taking a drink. She was enjoying how her results were going, and she had been waiting for where to go to next, seeing as she was reviewing a map of the Ciden IV surface. She looked up at the well in the distance, a deathly pale hand still on map PADD, and she scowled in suspicion at the well...and the human scanning it.

She leaned over to get a glance, careful not to show herself too good. "They couldn't have picked that up so soon?" she whispered to herself.

Kinley nodded to Charlotte. " Agreed. Let's do it. The quicker we can get the water tested, the sooner we can make an attack plan to purify it."  she said, giving a side glance. The governor certainly seemed touchy about this whole business. She didn't want to name names, but he certainly seemed like he had more than he was letting on.

Remaining by Garrison's side as soon as they were transported back to the station, Charlotte was ready to test the pitcher of water, but Savar commed for a status report on conditions planetside. "Conditions are not well. Counselor Sot is dead, killed by numerous cuts to his body. Death was caused by shock due to trauma and blood loss. An autopsy should be forthcoming." She looked for a place to set the water for the time being but thought better of the idea as contaminants could enter the pitcher and taint the evidence. "Also, two Vulcan Ambassadors, Skoth and Toth, fell ill during the initial meeting after drinking water from a local aquifer. The well is being tested now, and I was going to the lab to test the suspected water for contamination."

She turned to Garrison momentarily. "With your permission, Commander, I will get on this now."

Fawkes exited the transporter room, still on comms with Savar. "I will see you momentarily, Lieutenant."

Therem's eyebrows shot up at the results of the scans--cholera in the water? At least that meant there was not a natural toxin from some mineral or subterranean death worm infecting the water supply. However, it did mean the colonists introduced the bacteria into the water somehow. He turned towards Talinn to deliver the news, showing him the results on the tricorder screen.

"Well Mr. Talinn, there's probably sewage in your water. These scans show cholera, but it's some mutated version. I think the Governor will need a team of scientists to scan every well to find the source. Maybe a busted sewer pipe or someone dug a really deep outhouse. I'll message the higher-ups..."

Taking about his padd, Therem realized that, aside from his work contacts, he only had the governor and that ambassador with the crazy hair on his official federation contact list. Shrugging, he shot over a quick message to them both.

<You got poo in the Jericho wells. Scans show a weird strain cholera. You'll need new filtration systems, and a team of scientists to find the infection source. Talinn has a copy of the scans.>

Talinn nodded, eyebrow raised in that typical Vulcan manner as Therem did his own scans of the water. If the contamination was true, That could cause a lot of potential problems, not only for the already sick people but for the entire colony in general. "I understand. Perhaps We may need someone to help recalibrate the filters. =/\= "Talinn to Station, We may need someone with expertise in repairing things to repair the reseviors." =/\=

Malaquías was back to his office, now that the diplomatic party was gone, and he saw the message from the new guy, the miner... He waved that aside before the figure in the shadows had snuck into his office. Damn, that sneak was good...Remans usually were.

"He wants us to fix the filters! Can you believe that?" Malaquías chortled. "No business of ours if it's not harming us!" And he deleted the message before looking full at the shadowy sneak.

"He's still going too much in for his own good, Governor," the sneak said menacingly in the shadows. "I thought you had to know."

"Well, it's fine to involve me for consultation," Malaquías said dismissively, "but you need to talk to Mister Trann on the business matters, if it's going to cost you."

"I might...I can let Jimmy know he has another hit."

"You both will get double if you get the new ambassador, Sherry Ecks. She's not hard to miss," Malaquías said steely. "Take it up with Administrator Trann, he'll have the money ready for you. Now keep on going pretending to be Trann's cousin, we'll notify you at your ship. Have fun harassing Romulans in the meantime, by any of your means."

The sneak nodded and pressed something on her wrist. The deathly pale hands turned a kind of sky blue. A moment later, a certain Bolian captain stepped out from the shadows.

"It'll be done," Hagon Ral said, only he wasn't Hagon Ral. And like that, he was gone.

Nira looked over and was satisfied at seeing Cloten quaver under Torra as she leaned over to correct him. And she ensured to cover the console to hide it from Cloten, although he was more busy staring at the horns. Nira would understand if Torra didn't like being feared, but Nira wanted to take advantage of Cloten's fear of bigger people for why he was next to her - bigger people out of his control or unable to be controlled by him.

Nira nodded at Kinley's answer to Torra; at least it was good for her to reply, seeing that she, as the CO, was back. Cloten heard Kinley's words about Koto's location and perked up.

"Commander, he might be on the station itself," he pointed out, speaking to Kinley, still quavering in fear...although he was less afraid of Koto and more of the big Grazerite.

"Are you sure?"
asked Nira.

"Positive, one of the boys spotted him passing my office," Cloten said.

Nira looked over to Kinley with concern, looking to her for orders.

[New Jericho Well | New Jericho Colony | Ciden IV]

After several minutes passed with no response, Therem stared at his padd with a frown. If there was a deadly bacteria loose in a mine, the mine would but shut down for safety (plus the potential cost of training new workers. However, the governor didn't seem to care about cholera, and the ambassador might have her head stuck in one of those oversized, vintage hair driers.

"How many wells are there in New Jericho, Talinn? Can you shoot me coordinates or a map? We need to test them all before people get stabby over finding untainted water. I'm going to try to call up some help..."

As he spoke to the Vulcan, Therem rapidly wrote a message to all of his prospector contacts within New Jericho. If things went well, then he could bill the Federation once this was all settled.

<Who needs work? Test the water wells in Jericho and send me the results.>

I suggest you stand down any weapons you have and cooperate with Lieutenant Aune. Come quietly with him, and hand over all you have found out about Suvin to us and to his team. Surrender your weapons as well. And whether you are a civilian mercenary or not: I. Am. Giving. You. An. Order. =/\=

=/\= "And I have one more tidbit to part with you, Captain," =/\=  Nira finished with contempt, again giving her previous tone at the word "Captain."  =/\= "Order me around again, and you're going to find yourself worthy of a court martial. Is. That. Understood?" =/\=

Hoping Stryker's hearing the comm channel, without further addressing Dersch for the time being, Nira added,  =/\= "Stryker, you may proceed with the arrest. Take Dersch back to Solaere, along with any of his cohorts if need be. Have your team interview what was going on. Work with the local law enforcement if they're around. Said out." =/\=

Cloten was watching with horrified fascination, like watching a dabo shouting match or a crash landing in progress. He knew about Dersch, so what the hell was going on between them? He kept his peace, however; he always knew when to restrain his curiosity, and to never take advantage if it meant trouble brewing; no need to add more fuel to a fire.

"Yes ma'am," Torra responded and opened the channel back to the Admiral.  "Admiral Gillespie, is on main viewer." the Ops officer announced.

A moment later, Admiral Gillespie appeared on the viewscreen. "Glad we can discuss face to face, lassies," he said to Kinley and Nira. "What's all the hullabaloo about James Koto?"

"Admiral, sir," Nira said, "Palstine...Koto may be more than just in the sector, he may be here on the station."

Gillespie stared in pondering. "I wondered when he would crop up on the radar again," he said. "Admiral Grayson's report will cover more, but you'll probably noo who he really is already. James Koto has a bit of a record, including for murders, over the past ten years. He used to serve on the Washington, but noo is on the run. If he's at Solaere, an effort needs to be made to apprehend him so he can be sent back to Earth for sentencing."

"Funny you should mention the Washington, Admiral," Nira pointed out. "It's here in the system, too, and Dersch is having them looking."

"What? Surely Dersch isn't putting them up to it."

"Dersch has resigned his commission to resume command."

"Oh, bullocks," Gillespie groaned. "Those separate sec/tac mercenaries, mucking aboot...Kinley, are there any vessels in the Tarod Sector? I'll let them noo to get to Ciden and impoond the Washington."

Nira had anticipated any potential feelings of disapproval as she had with Captain Galloway in the past whenever she spoke with Admiral Gillespie. It was that Gillespie always gave her insights, news and information to pass on, a way to keep her connected, especially since she turned down his offer to be one of his operatives; Starfleet was her home, and Starfleet came first, not back in San Francisco. She gave reassuring gestures in her anticipation.

Dersch was now beyond pissed. "Yes Mam, And Also I wasn't ordering, Just asking" Dersch then had all the weapons beamed up to the Washington and even their suits revaling their uniforms. "Alright, Aune, We are now unarmed, and Out of our suits, All I ask is you don't cuff us like dogs, We aren't the regular theft merncarys We server to protect, Not to steal

Getting back aboard was easy to do, what with her ship having its own transporter system. She was anxious to see what information there was of that new man snooping at the well, or that funny-haired ambassador Sherry Ecks. But then a notification caught her attention; it was the benefit of enjoying the comforts of New Jericho's government, being in on lots of information.

The law enforcement at New Jericho was in the outskirts and...

"Hagon" could not believe it. According to the police comms, they were at the scene of a murder and a team of Starfleet goldshirts has arrested Dersch. Dersch himself. This was too good to be true...

"Jimmy," she called in "Hagon's" voice. "You're not going to believe this. Dersch has been arrested by the Starfleeters. If you still want him...it's too good a chance to pass up."
