Sukal

[Transporter Room Two:  Stardate:  70400.31]

Lieutenant Sukal was patiently waiting near the door and facing the transporter platform.  His newest addition to the DISCOVERY was due to arrive at any moment...a Vulcan woman by the name of Toreen Paattr.  Being half-Vulcan, himself, Sukal understood she would likely be rather attentive to protocols.  She was new to Starfleet, and her first assignment was to the Ops Department aboard the Akira-class he now served as the Ops Chief.  He remembered coming aboard the CHURCHILL several years ago under Captain Lance Krol.  So many things had changed since that day.  He used to greet all the new arrivals...not just the ones for his department, but he had no problem greeting the new Vulcan when she came aboard.

"Chief, signal coming in from the starbase.  I believe our new arrival is ready for transport," Ensign Rachel Cole noted from the transporter console.

"Excellent, Ensign.  Bring our new person aboard," Sukal instructed with a slight nod, and took a single step towards the now humming and glowing transporter pad.

Toreen had never particularly enjoyed the feeling of being transported, but today as she stepped on to the platform waiting to take her aboard the DISCOVERY, she felt an unreasonable sense of anxiety.

As she materialized on the deck of the USS DISCOVERY, she noticed two men in the room waiting for her. One man stood behind the controls and the other stood almost directly in front of her. He was most likely one of the commanding officers on board. Stepping off the platform, she looked directly at the man in front of her.

"Toreen Paattr, sir. Reporting for the Ops Department," she said with her hand extended in the customary gesture of human welcome.

Sukal was a bit surprised by the non-traditional greeting from the new Vulcan woman.  Instead of the Vulcan salute and normal greeting; the woman had decided on a handshake...which Sukal firmly accepted with a slight smile.

"Welcome aboard, Ms. Toreen.  I am Lieutenant Sukal, your Operations Chief here on your first assigned post," the Vulcan/Betazoid officer greeted his new arrival with a slight nod of respect.
He took the PADD he had brought with him, and placed his thumbprint next to the picture of Toreen.  Immediately, the PADD beeped in response, and confirmed the arrival of Toreen Paattr.

"I believe that takes care of that," Sukal continued as he gestured with a nod towards the door.  "I will be taking you to your newly assigned quarters.  Inside, you will find your belongings have already been transferred, and you will also find a PADD with the current duty roster for this ship.  Your orientation will begin after you have checked your quarters to make sure all of your stuff has arrived," the Ops Chief continued, and prepared to walk with her to the nearest lift when she was ready.

Toreen saw the look of surprise on her superiors face and hoped her greeting had not been completely out of place. Lieutenant Sukal seemed to be a kind man and Torrent decided she would have no issues working under a man of his calibre.

"Thank you for welcoming me aboard, sir. Please, lead the way, I do not think there will be any problems regarding my belongings and I do not wish to slow down the operations aboard the ship" she said nodding her head as a gesture that she was ready to continue.

Sukal was glad of her response, and nodded in acceptance.  "That is well, Ms. Toreen.  In such a case, I shall instead take you directly to the Orientation," Sukal stated as they entered the turbolift.  After a second, the Operations Chief indicated to the computer which deck to take them to, and waited with his hands clasped lightly behind his back.  "Your Orientation will comprise of a variety of things which should help you adapt to your new environment.  It will include your indoctrination into the department you have been assigned to, your chain of command, and other such details.  It is also the time for you to ask any questions you might wish to pose," Sukal explained as the lift took them to their destination.  The doors slid open with a very quiet hiss...almost so quiet even his Vulcan hearing had trouble picking it up.

A few steps down the corridor, and the two found themselves in the Orientation Room...a small briefing room set aside for this particular task.

"Please take a seat at the terminal, Ms. Toreen," Sukal indicated with one smooth motion of his left hand towards the chair at the terminal.  He strode over to his chair at the head of the table, and waited for her to be seated, and turned to the screen behind him on the wall.  After turning it on; Sukal just as smoothly turned back to the newest addition to the DISCOVERY.

At the direction of Lieutenant Sukal, Toreen took her seat at the terminal and mentally readied herself for the barrage of information she was about to receive. Prioritizing an influx of information was a skill she had developed from a young age and would be helpful in remembering the key information for today's orientation.

"I'm ready to begin when you are, Lieutenant" she said and awaited his instructions.
