Kinley Garrison

[As Steve]

Steve jumped  and hid behind the strong Hooman's legs as the lady with the big hair screeched very loudly and hopped on the table. Kind of like a pterodactyl. Not that he really knew what a pterodactyl was. All he knew about a pterodactyl was from his databanks, but they did seem very screechy and often perched on high places. Maybe she was  pretending to be one? He quirked his head again at the strange  behavior of the Lady with the Very Large Hair.

Sometimes hoomans were strange and got scared of him and did that. He wasn't exactly sure why. Maybe they didn't know much about raptors? He was designed to look as non-threatening as possible, but sometimes he must be scary to them. Either way the Lady didn't seem to want to be near him.  The big strong Hooman didn't seem to mind him though. He liked the big strong hooman. Chirping to say "œthank you" , he thumped his tail on the man's legs.

The Lady tossed him some crackers. How peculiar. He didn't usually eat crackers, but food was food, and crackers would be good with meatballs.  Or maybe that little girl up ahead would like crackers. People were staring at the scene now.  He picked up the crackers with his delicate serrated teeth, nodding to the big nice hooman and heading over to the little girl to say hi. The Pterodactyl lady probably wasn't interested in him staying.

Gohan felt some relief knowing that the ship was meant to be there. Also a great sadness in knowing that the universe could be so unforgiving. "Thank you for looking into the matter, Gohun out" Hitting his badge.
Walking into the room Gohun saw someone talk to him and flashby. Gohun started to work on the replicator.  The parts of the replicator that needed fixing was the waveguide, power converter, power supply grid, memory, pattern buffers, and the matter-energy conversion matrix. Unfortunately, the only thing missing was the matter-energy conversion matrix. He would have to talk to the smuggler about getting the part.
In the meantime, he started by taking all the broken parts out the gold and would be good to trade for things. Also, the metal could be traded. With that, Gohun built the waveguide with the directions on the box being in Vulcan. That was annoying and time-consuming, flipping the directions to the other side. Gohun noted the other side was in English.
The next two were easy he just went and got them from supplies.

Out of breath as she made her way through the busy passageways of the station, Kinley made it, with barely a minute to spare. I keep forgetting just how long it takes to get across the Station.

"œHey Doctor. Sorry I'm later than intended."

[Outpost Solaere, Deck 14, Sickbay]

"Greetings Commander. Come take a seat."

She guided the commander to the nearest available examination room for privacy and activated the biobed scanning suite.

"So, how have you been feeling? Any new ailments since your last review?"

Dr Grippen studied the results from the biobed scanners as they came in, "Your melatonin hormone levels are looking a bit low. Have you been having trouble sleeping?"

She came across as cool, compassionate and professional. She'd seen thousands of patients like this.

[Zexala Nelois - Deck 10 Promenade - Outpost Solaere]

"Zexala! Stay close to me! We are almost there!" Kela called out to his daughter who was quite a few meters ahead of him running ahead. She had a large smile on her face and Kela envied that she had the luxury of being able to ignore the stresses of being on this station. But still, he liked her to stay close just in case someone did decide she looked like a good ransom target. Mara wanted to take a small nap after such a long trip so Kela offered to take her on a tour of the station grab some food and show her the childcenter where all the other children on the station tend to stay at.

Zexala of course, ignored her father. The ground was so interesting with its plates and artificial gravity, she was making a game of balancing on the edges of the panels, trying not to fall off or else she would fall into space! She spent so long on Betazed being away from it was the coolest thing ever for her. She knew when she came back home and told all of her classmates about her time in space they would be so jealous of her! She'll be the coolest person ever! She turned around and saw her father, looking worried as always walking behind her. She wished sometimes he would let her be, she can do her own things! She can walk ahead if she wants!

She went to turn around again but because she had her legs together she tripped over herself and fell over. She avoided crying, she was a big girl after all and simply got up, sniffing her nose a few times to mask the pain of hitting her head on the ground. She heard her dad call her name and when she turned around, expecting to see him she instead saw this...monster in front of her! She gave a little yelp of fright at whatever was looking at her with a cracker in its mouth.

Kela sighed watching her daughter fall over, this is exactly why he wanted her to watch where she was going. "Zexala..." he called out and picked up his pace to make sure she was okay. When he arrived though he saw a creature had taken an interest in Zexala, at first he was concerned and was about to scoop her away to safety but then remembered that the Commander kept a pet, a Earth creature long extinct called a dinosaur. He didn't remember the pets name but knowing it was holographic he wondered at the danger of letting Zexala get to know it.

"...it looks like it wants to say hello."

Zexala looked at her dad, then to the dinosaur with big, beady black eyes and tap its head with her finger very briefly,
"...oh...hello" she said.

Kinley nodded as the doctor scanned her, noting her lack of sleep. She did have a lot on her mind lately, what with the upcoming diplomatic envoy they were going to do today and the general stress of Command always on her mind.  The addition of her reoccurring nightmares made it difficult for any sleep to happen, so she wasn't surprised that it came up on the scans.

"œYou could say that," she said, nodding. "œNothing really new in terms of physical sicknesses except maybe just stress, but that comes with the job, I suppose.

I haven't gotten any decent sleep lately, but that has kind of been out of my control, unfortunately, especially given the events since Frontier Day.  It was"¦ a really bad day for me, all things considered. "  She said, nodding solemnly.  A bit of an understatement, for sure. "œBut I've been going as well as I can, I think." she shrugged with a grin.

Taja actively listened as the commander described what was going on, without judgement.

"So insomnia is very common and affects most of us at some point in our lives. I think everyone in Starfleet was affected by the events of Frontier Day to some degree, so I fully understand how distressing it was for some people. We've seen a lot of patients describe similar symptoms to yours."

The doctor tapped in some notes to the terminal as she was going along.

"I've made a referral to counsellor Drylo for you as I think you'd benefit from discussing how to process those events."

"Stress in your position isn't unexpected, do you have any coping mechanisms to release some tension and relax? It's important we make time for ourselves, even if we are in charge of the station."

"I think, after lunch, Torra, I, and Kinley, if she's available, might check up on the Narvasam's captain," she said. "We're going to need to talk to him to see what he needs to replenish its supplies and equipment. Might ask him for more details about the pirates."
.
She then looked back at the duty roster and noticed the new... "By the way, has anybody seen the new...assistant yet?" asked Nira having pausing owing to a befuddlement as to refer to the new position when the new officer Aryth arrived.

"Honestly, who knows?" asked Savar with a shrug. "'Special Counselor,' they call it, officially."

"It's just my opinion, but I'd rather think of it like a yeoman,"

Though Nira wasn't speaking to her, Torra picked up on her name and looked towards the Commander and nodded at the suggestion    "I'll make that arrangement with Captain tr'Dhael, Commander."

She opened a comm line to the Romulan trader.   Looking over the registration papers on the Narvasam, Torra noted the man's name Aefau tr'Dhael.  The Grazerite, who had studied a bit of Rihan over the years, recognized the odd meaning of the names.  Aefau meant supply and Dhael meant bird.  Add that to the 'nest' meaning of the ship's name of Narvasam and Torra had to wonder if the man's registered name was made up to fit his profession.

While the Grazerite waited for the Romulan ship's Captain to respond to her hail, she listened to Nira and Savar talk about the new 'yeoman'.    The arrival of a unfamiliar face in Ops had Torra making an assumption as to their identity and Torra loudly cleared her throat to gain Nira's attention, after which she looked pointedly towards the newcomer.

She didn't say hello as at that moment her comm was answered.

=/\= "Captain tr'Dhael here.  You called?" =/\=  Though the Romulan's reply was casual - there was a hint wariness in it.  Torra also noted that his voice was rather deep and raspy.

=/\= "Yes, Captain.  Our First Officer, Commander Said, would like to meet with you with an officer or two, in regards to your lost supplies and discuss how Solaere might be able to help.  Would this afternoon after lunch be amenable to you?" =/\=

There was a slight pause.  Time enough to make one wonder if a response was coming at all.  This was as Torra's attention turned to Commander Garrison as she hurried on through.

She nodded to Nira and Torra as she passed through the busy room. "œ Hey there. Sorry I have to skedaddle, but I just got reminded that I had an appointment with Doctor Grippen so you have the conn right now.  I should be back  pretty soon. At some point today we'll need to ready a crew to accompany the diplomats for the negotiations planetside." she said, nodding  her greetings to everyone  before  bolting as soon as she was out the door. Maybe I do need that secretary after all"¦

Torra watched Garrison as the woman explained about her required absence.  Torra found she still had moments when she felt uncomfortable being alone in the same room with the woman.  Garrison had been one of the many young officers assimilated aboard the Discovery; and the one Torra had remembered the most - likely because Kinley had been one of the first to shoot at both her and the Captain during their escape.  It made for an awkward working dynamic between them.

Her distracted thoughts were refocused suddenly when the Romulan captain finally spoke again.  =/\= "Alright.  I'll be waiting for her and her team then." =/\=   The comm line ended abruptly.

Torra looked to Nira to confirm she heard his reply.

[Commander Nira Said | Operations Center | Deck One | Outpost Solaere]

Nira perked up when she heard the captain of the Narvasam - tr'Dhael, she remembered - called back and Torra arranged a meeting. She saw Kinley head out to meet Taja, and Nira could feel it...that sense of discomfort of being around Kinley. Nira could understand how Torra is feeling, but the fact that Torra's feelings about Kinley hadn't changed in eleven months. Even after some time on the Revenant, Torra was still bothered by Kinley, Kinley who had been assimilated twice...Nira sighed inwardly; she felt she needed to talk to Torra in regards to Kinley, and that she had put off that conversation far too long, but unfortunately, it'll have to come up after all the business today.

Captain tr'Dhael responded back, and Nira saw Torra look at her. "I got it, Torra," she said with a smile. "1300 or 1400 hours, we'll meet with Captain tr'Dhael. It'll likely be us, along with old Stryker and Mister Dersch, if Kinley is unavailable."

She just turned and nearly bumped into Aryth Castellan the new...yeoman, as Nira figured...

"Ah, yes, Aryth...Counselor Castellan...would you prefer yeoman or counselor?" she asked. "Anyway, I understand you're organizing scheduling, among some of your duties...It's much appreciated, I understand it's helping to organize things while we get this outpost running efficiently...I wish you to add to the schedule the meeting, between 1300 and 1400, and let Commander Garrison know when she comes back from Doctor Grippen. Also, I believe we have that meeting with the New Jericho colonial administration later today, in regards for preparing in negotiation about that newly discovered aquifer, wherein we'll be able to talk to them again without having to be turned out and being chased away by a pair of manure flingers?"

Nira did not forget that in the last two visits to New Jericho, they were turned away. Still, Nira at least made it appear she had gotten lost in the administration center, an excuse to see what security is like around their illegal armory, regardless of whether or not the administration wanted to see them.

Some time after the last meeting, Solaere got news of a newly discovered aquifer. The problem was, the aquifer was under land claimed by the Romulan refugees. Given the relationship between New Jericho and Oaish'le, it was going to be a point of contention that could lead to hostility. Fortunately, the Solaere officers are acting as third party mediators and were preparing for diplomatic overtures. A meeting has been arranged to discuss the pre-negotation with the administration, although Nira was sure it was a serious enough issue that it would also mean they would also likely meet the governor of New Jericho, who Solaere command have not been able to meet yet.

Surely, this has to be a meeting that not even the administration will be able to ignore us, Nira thought to herself.

"Anyway, I wanted to double-check with you,"
Nira said to Aryth, "before I go off for lunch."

"As you may be privy to classified information, you must ensure that you do not discuss that aspect of your work with others - family, friends or coworkers. Is that understood?" Torra asked confirming that the woman was aware of her responsibility.

She wouldn't eat them as her parents taught her to not eat things that have been on the ground or in someone elses mouth but she would still smile and let the dinosaur know it was appreciated.

"Thank you Dinosaur...You are very nice." her tone was soft, a little cautious but very curious.

Kela had patiently waited for Zexala to enjoy her time with the Commanders pet, he wished he could remember its name, probably a good thing for an operations officer to remember. He checked the time and noticing how much had passed lightly tapped Zexala's shoulder signalling it was time to move on.

"Alright Zexala, time to go. We still need to get food and tour the childcenter"
Zexala sighed and after one last pat got up and looked up at her father, "Okay papa." she said and reached to hold his hand.

Kela for his part, not the best at expressing affection was hesitant to hold her hand, believing she was old enough to not need it but took her hand anyway. Whatever consequences a little love will show a few years from now he could handle then, "...Are you still interested in trying that Klingon restaurant?"

"There aren't any Betazoid places here."
"...Dad can we get a pet?"

"No my dear. Its difficult to support a pet on a station."
Zexala frowned at her fathers answer but didn't fight. She didn't need her empathetic abilities to know the futility of arguing with her father. Her MOTHER though...

"I want human food."

"Okay, lets get chicken and fried potatoes."

Zexala smiled and skipped as they continued down the promenade to get some lunch.

Sven shook his head as he was dismayed over Sherry's behavior. She was overreacting to Steve's presence, and he rolled his eyes. He would have to get the dino a meatball from that Swedish place just to make it up to him. He watched as Steve took the packet of crackers and wondered why Sherry would even have a packet of crackers in that purse of hers anyway. It didn't matter. His attention was soon back on the woman with the obnoxious beehive hairdo.
Sherry had climbed off her chair, gave her hair a pat and reached over to take Sven's massive arm. She wrapped hers in his, and gave it a pat with the free hand.
"œNow, how about that tour, Svenny?" she smiled sweetly.
Sven didn't want to, but he knew that if he said no, she would pull out her diplomat card, and make him. And he didn't want her to do that.
"œFine." He said, straightening up. He began to walk along the Promenade pointing out the various shops and eateries.
Sherry looked uninterested, despite her prodding him into doing a tour.
They passed the Jackel, and she wrinkled her nose at Clotan. She hissed something about a bridge missing its troll.
He only wished that someone would hail him to take him away from this walking nightmare.

Zexala watched the dinosaur drop the crackers and intuitively assumed they were for her. She gave a small smile and continued its scaly skin and picked up the crackers.

JB walked into the Promenade with Katie, It had been a month since Olivia gave birth to their new daughter, Kate Marie Dersch. Man that made him proud, He was now a father to girls. The Reason Katie was with him was he had promised to show her around and show what he did while on duty. He walked into the Promenade. He saw Aune. And walked up to him. Katie stayed closed to JB, Not scared but just she liked to stay close.

"Hey Aune, Hows it going? Heard Lindsey got out again, Damn that Woman is giving us the run for the money ain't She?" He said with a laugh. Katie peered around at everyone.

"Oh, Aune, This is my 6 year old Daugther, Katie, Wifey, Needed some rest time, Since she had our Newborn daughter down for a nap finally, So I took her out to show her what We did here on the station and allow her to meet and greet some other officers, Katie...This is Stryker Aune, Hes me my boss and Chief on the station"

Katie peered at the ain't. And Gave a little wave. "Hello Lt. Aune" But she also waved at Ensign Nelois daughter as they walked in. At least Katie will have some people to be here with, Not just herself.

[Outpost Solaere, Deck 14, Sickbay]

[Doctor's office.]

Kinley nodded. She barely had time for herself given the on-call nature of the job and the crisis they had just been in.  With a sardonic laugh, she sighed. "œ Yeah, I wish I had the time to rest up. I do like to cook, sometimes, but even then, I still am not good at it. When I was an ensign I had to warn my Department head that I was going to in case I set something on fire. i've gotten a bit better, but these days it's just been crazy busy for even that. "œ

"œWe'll be taking an away team planetside to talk with the colonists in a bit , if you're interested in joining. Not that I'm expecting anything going  sideways and needing medical attention, just talking, but they haven't been the most open to talk to lately." She said.

We're in Starfleet here. Weird is part of the job description.
