Torra nodded in acceptance when he state he didn't need to prepare.  She gathered up her plate and recycled it as he went on to question if there were a dress code or rituals that he should know of.   Torra looked to him perplexed.

"A dress code for vid-calling?  I've never heard of such a thing.  And no, there are no rituals." Torra confirmed.  He sounded almost nervous.

Torra pushed aside her veggie platter and called up the tables comm option.  Using her ID code as authorization Torra placed the call in to her upsol's main residence.  As the call connected Torra took note of the timestamp at the bottom of the screen it was like just before dawn.  Which was perfect - the upsol would be all together and just waking for a morning stroll in the fields.

Her call rang once, twice... a third time before it was picked up.  The face of one of her mother's  upsol 'brothers'.. so an 'uncle' in human nomenclature.. appeared on the screen.

Torra smiled.  "Good morning to you, Varesh-Tole." She greeted recalling his name.  "Would my mother be available?"

"Your mother?  Oh yes.. of course!  Hold a moment while I fetch her for you, Danjar-Torra.".  The face disappeared from the screen, leaving Torra to look to Don.  She offered him a reassuring smile.

A minute later, her mother Varesh-Vesh, appeared on the vid screen.

Her mother as usual was a picture of Grazerite beauty.  Torra thought she took after her father more than her mom.

"Torra dear. I wasn't expecting a call from you for another 2 weeks. Is something wrong?"

Torra shook her head smiling.  "No mother nothing is wrong now.  There was earlier an incident that, well, put the ship at great risk but our Captain managed to 'save the day' as it were."

Torra didn't even consider not telling her mother about the incident. But because the mission would most likely be classified, she kept the details secure and only provided vague statements.

"I'm glad to hear that it worked out and that you are safe."

"Me too Mother, though I called because... I was impulsive during this crisis.  You recall how I told you I had been spending time with the Flight officer Lt Addams?  Don?"  Torra gently guided the conversation.

Torra's mom nodded.  "Yes of course... you were going send a picture.  Is that what this is about?"

Torra shook her head and bit at her bottom lip. She'd forgotten she was supposed to send her mother a picture of Don. "No Mother.  During the crisis, Donny and I realized just how much we care for one another.  So when he proposed.. I accepted."

There was a slight pause before Torra continued on finishing her statement.  "Donny and I are married."

Standing on the side, Don was amazed how dead gorgeous Torra's mother was. It seem his wife had her father's look. Though he could see resemblance in her mother.

The husband placed his hands behind his back. He step forward that the mother-in-law could see him. Mother-in-law he had never dreamed having one or a father-in- law too. This was all new to him. He had liked it.

"Hello..." he said shyly. The window of the situation popped up. He was not sure her name was. There was an awkward moment. The flight officer was trying to quickly find way to say hi. "Hum, Mrs. Torra it is a privilege to be standing in your beautiful presence. Uhm, I hope you are not mad that I married your daughter without your consent."

The air felt it was heavy. The room was heavy too. He was nervous as hell. So he stood there waiting to see what happens next.

Torra turned to smile at Don as he stepped forward and greeted her mother ever so awkwardly - it was so adorable.

"Her name is Veresh-Vesh,  Veresh being her birth-year name." She quietly corrected Don.

She looked to her mother's surprised expression and explained.  "Human naming customs assume children are named according to their parents last name.  So he thinks Torra is my last name.  On a similar vein wives will often add on the last name of their husband.  As such I've taken Don's last name.  So please announce to the upsol that I am now Danjar-Torra Addams."

Her mother listened with a slightly amused expression as she made her explanation.  "Ah, I see.  So your personal name is Don, yes?  Well.. Don.. thank you for your kind words and of course I am not upset that you have married my daughter.  If she has accepted you as a spouse then surely you are what she wants - impulsive decision or not. Some  things do not require days of pondering to know the answer.  It was like that between her father and I as well, though we did not marry." She spoke these last two statements while gazing at her daughter with a soft look of remembrance.

After a moment her look became more in the moment, and she nodded to Torra "Of course, Torra dear,  I will let the upsol know." then at a thought, she inquired, "You'll be informing you father next, I suppose?

Torra nodded.  "Yes. He is still with the Ambassador on Earth last I spoke to him.  I'll be calling him next.".

Vesh nodded "That's good. Well, I do so hate to cut this call short especially when you call with such wonderful news but I have a new rotation of crops that I need to tend.  But it was so good to hear from you and to meet your husband Don.  We will speak again soon."

Torra nodded at the implied end of conversation.  "Bye, Mother."

A loud sigh raced out of Don's lungs. "Man. I felt I blew it," he sighed.

"But man your mom is beautiful but not beautiful like you," he shared. He was starting to get an idea how he could get neat gifts for his wife,

"You know I did not realize your mom and dad are a long distant relationship. Does your father have upsol from your planet with him.  Does he have his own garden?" He asked. Yes, he was indeed curious.

Deep below, he wished his mom and dad was alive. He had some living relatives. There was no real relationship cause he was far away with his mom. His grandparents are dead from age.

Wow. He was indeed a lonely creature. He was glad he went along with the feeling when he first ran into the Discovery. It all was from his crashed ship which was the planet where Discovery came too. Then he was civilian. He was helping them. The little girl who had liked him seemed to trick him to stick around. They end up losing contract when they depart to a star base. Don gave up his little kitten name smitten. That little cat he missed.

Torra reached out a hand to Don and gave it a squeeze after hearing him say he 'blew it'.  The idiomatic phrase meaning that he failed.   "You did not fail or blow it, my love."

She smiled as he complimented both her and her mother's looks.  "That's sweet of you to say..." She leaned her head down to kiss his cheek.  Just his cheek because they were in the Mess Hall and didn't want to make others feel uncomfortable.

When Don asked about her father and having upsol with him, Torra took a second to consider how to answer.  "My father's birth-upsol is still mainly on the planet but since father works in the Embassy - he's an Ambassadorial Aide - the whole Embassy is his upsol... much like all of Discovery's crew is my upsol."

The idea her father working in a garden - like her mother did was amusing and she smiled.  "My father is not the rural-type.  He's quite urban - preferring politics over agriculture.  It's he who helped open my eyes to all the wonders that the Federation has.  I worked with him for a year when I turned 4.  It was then that I discovered Starfleet." she reminisced happily.  "I might never have met you without him expanding my horizons."

Once more she squeezed his hand because she'd gotten the sense that he was sad.  She knew from things he'd mentioned before that his Mother was dead.  But she couldn't recall him ever mentioning his father.

"What about your father ... what was he like?" she tested the subject gingerly.

Don dark brown eyes turned to the ground. "My Father was not into space," he said turning to look at her. "You can say my parents had something in common. Wow. Wow!" He said amazingly. Color on his skin became better. "Maybe that is why I like you more. I guess I am like my father. I mean, he liked earth. He wanted to be close his parents. They like to garden. He even liked to cook. Never wanted faked food he called the replicators. He would be happy when we lived in Stone Age. Grow it. You pick it. Prepare it, and cook it. That what he had said over and over. He said humanity got lazy. Forgot what it was like to survive in the Wild. That what he was like," he shared.

There was the part he had not shared about his dad cheating on his mom when she was away on missions.

"I wish you can meet them, but both are gone," he sighed.

Then he fell silent. When Torra had wanted comfort him. He allowed it. Though he was not wanting to talk about it.

Give a few hours, then he shared.

"I was planning to dedicate my life to Starfleet completely before I met you. I figure why not? I was planning to be the person who volunteer to die on a mission. Cause there was nobody in my life. There was no reason. I only imagine my mother as a spirit watching over me. My life was like cold as space until you came along to fill that cold with your warmth. But now I am sad, cause I don't have an upsol to share to you. I just got stories and that is all. I won't mind sharing you. I am sorry you won't meet them. Man I made myself depress, love. I guess I am not going to get over it."

Her questioning about his father provided more insight into Don's homelife before she met him.

[Holo Deck]

The married man had to admit he felt better now cause he had gone through a phase of a self pity. The Discovery was indeed his upsol. That he had meditated what Torra told him. She was right. This was his Destiny to be here. It was something he had grown to like.

Now, here he was at a Holodeck waiting for his wife. He was dressed in Starfleet work out sweats. Don felt he had needed to sharpen his hand to hand fighting skills. He had asked if Torra would help him. After all she used to be  in security.

They could even do some work outs and exercises together. Deep inside, Don wanted to be more accessible to the Discovery. He could get help on learning more of Engineering. And increase his skills in emergency first aid.

Though he would like to have a secondary skill. Of course, he would not be quick learner and pick things up fast like Torra. It seem Grazites had that special knack of learning. Humans was like normal. Yes. They have their flaws and strong points. Out of all the species in space humans are more normal.

Deep down, he had hope Torra won't think he was weak. He had to be sure to be competitive and hope she stays competitive. That what he had liked. His mind set was to win. Even he had bad skill in it. Possible a human trait. Try to win even you can't do it.

He went to the wall, placed his hands up on the wall, lean in to it, with one knee bent toward the wall, and one leg stretching out. He believe that was a hamstring stretch. It was best to stretch before a good work out. Torra would not like to her husband pull a muscle or get injured.

Married life was very different from anything Torra had experienced before.  It was nothing like sharing quarters with Elena, or her time in the Mars Academy dorm rooms.  But Torra was enjoying every minute of it.  So when Don had asked her to help him with his hand to hand combat training, Torra was excited and looked forward to the experience.  She'd never taught anyone before.

Torra arrived at the Holodeck dressed in a blue jean skort (a pair of shorts with a skirt overtop) that came down to mid-thigh and a white tank top.

Normally Torra wore clothes that were full length and long-sleeved so to visually take emphasis off her height, but so caught up in her studying for vaccine production methods that Torra's lounge at home wear was what she headed out in to meet Donny since she was running late.

Spotting Don as she rounded the corridor, Torra smiled and waved as she strode over.  Her legs were long, and lightly furred - a mottled white and tan color - the same as most her body.

"Sorry I'm late!" she called out and dipped her head apologetically.

From the Holodeck files she called up the gym program and led the way in.

"This is my first time attempting to teach something so if I'm not making myself clear let me know.  We'll begin off with first warming up.  Stretch your all your muscles. We'll start from our heads down."

She led Don through several warm-up stretches and exercise, a bit of a jog around the gym for 10 minutes and an brief intensive cardio workout, before announcing she was ready to begin the lesson.

Don was stretching all his muscles much as he could. As he was doing it. And idea had popped in his head. He had offer a team up stretches. "You know we can do these about every day," he told her. There was wide grin and a wink.

He would teach her to wink. Figure she would want to learn. He'd told her it was hard. Some people or aliens can do them and some can't. But it was worth having fun to try. He even had to ask her if any of her kind had winked. Then he shared that his kitten did it once. But it was just habitual trait which the animal had no idea it could do that.

"Well, love you are the one who knows how to do better defense then me. If I get hurt. You be the first one too know," he said.

Torra liked Don's suggestion of team warm-up exercises and readily agreed that they should do them daily.  Some were quite simple and could be done in even the small space of their shared quarters.

When Don commented about getting hurt, Torra smiled gently.  "I would be a poor instructor if I allowed you to be hurt during our lessons here. For the martial art I will be beginning with you today will be Aikido.  It is one of my favored self-defense forms because for it to be effective you must be in harmony with your opponent."

Of course the Grazerite would prefer what seems like the most passive of all martial arts.

"Every Aikido technique that I will teach requires that you first learn 4 basic principles.  These are:

Keep your One-point.
Relax completely.
Extend Ki.
and Weight underside.

We will begin with Keeping your One-point.  This principle teaches us to be centered and in balance. If we are in balance, the power generated by our bodies is maximized. By keeping one-point, no energy is wasted.  So today we will focus on the one-point or hara as the source of power, rather than relying on ours arms and upper body."

At this point Torra stood straight and demonstrated an area just below where her navel would be.  "This is my One-point.  It is my center of mass and gravity.  It is from this point that I make my turns and do my movements.  If I do not have One-point my technique will be ineffective and I will be off-balance and easier to take down.  For example..."

Torra assumed a rather casual almost lopsided footing.

"Like this I don't have One-point.  Give me a gentle shove from behind." she instructed.

When Don did so, even though Torra was expecting it, she had no center of balance to keep her from being pushed further out of balance and she stumbled a step or two.

She smiled at Don and then moved back to where she had been in front of him, yet this time centered herself, both physically and mentally.  She maintained her One-point.

"Give another shove - same intensity."

This time when Don's shove came, Torra's mass and center of gravity was in balance. She was able to withstand the shove with barely any movement.  It would take Don two to three times the amount of force he had used before to effect her enough to get her off balance.  She smiled pleased with the demonstration.

"Good! Now I want you to find your One-point." Torra instructed, nodding to Don.

Pushing his wife and attempting push his wife was weird. However, he had to do what she had instructed him to do. It was weird of course. Deep down he was hearing his inner voice calling him wrong doing it. The other voice in his head was saying, it was part of the exercise.

Visualizing this weight sat in his hip area. Below the naval she had said. It felt weird just standing there cause his feet was not really in the proper position cause he was simply standing. With his wife moving around him. He had moved his feet apart to where he felt this gravitation pull. He turned his head to her. "I reckon a push show I stable, but a kick to my ankle I will crash," he joked. Sure. That was not part of the exercise. This was Don being silly.

Don's comment about a kicked ankle earned a chuckle.  "Well if you are applying the principal of Oneness then you would be in harmony with your opponent and be able to adjust your footing appropriately to avoid such an encounter before they had opportunity to strike.

One of the principles to keep in mind is: Get off the line of attack - Don't meet conflict head on, step aside and blend with the situation.  Remember to keep your One-point as you move out of it's path." she advised. She moved a forward and made an attempt to step on his foot.

Don was focus on hearing what she was teaching him. Then she got his foot. "Oh, you foot-ed me," he joked. He had to look down to see her foot on his. Then he lifted his head to look at her.

"I was distracted," he said with a good excuse. "Just the word harmony seems to making me think of something else," he shared. "Can't imagine saying that to a Klingon warrior. They might not take it lightly."

Torra was grateful she hadn't put any serious force behind her step because Don was self-admittedly too distracted to move his foot.  The Grazerite chuckled and stepped a step or two.

"Being aware of yourself and your environment - or as we call it having 'sustained mindfulness' - is yet another aspect of Aikido.  Let's try again, Don.  This time - focus- be aware of my movement and 'step off the line' of attack by merely stepping away at a 90 degree with the foot I am trying to step on."

"Ready?"

Torra waited for Don to be ready then attempted to step on his left foot.

[Holodeck NOT Martha]

Don step back off the line as he moved the foot back ninety degree. Doing a few steps back, he stopped. He had decided to advance Torra as counter her foot. Then he quickly stopped.
